  • So I knew I should have quit sooner! 🤦🏻‍♂️ I guess this is the first time we plugged the "feed accelerater" and yes it was in high speed which means it can go longer without plugging and takes more to plug it, but when it does plug tho, it's really plugged! 😆
    Turns out it wasn't that bad, but it did trigger my PTSD from last year 😳😆

    Ha feed accelorator fun. The best feed acxelorator plug we had this year was a turtle about the size of a dinner plate. Dont know why hhe crawled into the feeder house over night for a nap but he plugged that accelarator. Plus he survived and is still alive today with a cracked shell!

    On the S series and prior you normally can switch the feed accelerator belt to low speed, leave the tensioner loose, then with the separator running at idle put tension on the belt and be able to work it through. Or if that doesn’t work have a big enough socket or wrench to turn the beater backwards.

    I spent 10 of the worst hours of my life one time unplugging the back of my 9770 in soybeans. It was the worst day ever. Piece by piece in a back of a tiny space and the medical and government workers make bank doing nothing... Just is not right and farm prices should be 2 -4 times higher and we can not do anything about it... We take what they pay us... beyond crazy

  • @jasonhessels
    @jasonhessels ปีที่แล้ว

    Boy considering it was a known problem on the s series one would think they woulda designed a beefer belt for feed acceleration.
    Unless that’s meant to be a fail safe from forcing the slug in the rotors 🤔 can we give Deere that benefit of the doubt?

  • @Phil-pd4te
    @Phil-pd4te ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Mike, you talk about safety first but there are 3 folks under the header and feeder house with no cylinder lock in place. And the combine is running. I never trusted anything mechanical or electrical systems to act the way they should when I was on the farm. I learned with PTO shafts to just shut the tractor off and I never had to worry about getting pants or anything else caught and becoming one legged or worse. Starters are cheap in my estimation.

    • @kevinmeyer3884
      @kevinmeyer3884 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I do believe on that new JD there is not a cylinder lock but a switch that you activate on the side of the feederhouse that locks out the cylinders.

    Hey mike sorry if it's a dumb question but whats the difference between normal harvesting and swathing then picking

    • @ke6gwf
      @ke6gwf ปีที่แล้ว

      Normal harvest means putting the combine through standing crop, whereas here he cut the crop with a swather, and now is combining the swaths after they have dried down.

      @blurd3xgaming-932 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @ke6gwf
      @ke6gwf ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@blurd3xgaming-932 I guess you didn't watch any of his swathing videos where he explains it in detail lol
      Basically a crop has to be dead and dry before you can combine it, but an entire field doesn't dry out at the same time, or it may be taking too long in a wetter field.
      If you wait until the entire field is dry, the parts that dried first will have gotten too dry and the seeds will have already fallen out of the pods onto the ground, plus, it might snow before it's all dry.
      So they either have to spray the field to force everything to die and dry quickly, or you swath it and let it dry that way.
      Swathing works faster in cold weather than the chemical sprays, and it doesn't require driving through the crop with a sprayer, or hiring a plane to spray, and it works faster when it's getting cold, so it's the best option for situations like this.
      He didn't swath everything, the idea was to swath enough to keep him combining until the unswathed fields are dry enough to combine directly.
