So this follows the basics of all painting: clean, dry well, protect what you don't want paint on and do multiple, light coats. That's not a bash though, thumbs up for a simple, straight forward vid.
Fonzie be like #TBT LOL!
"you dont want that" "it wont bond well" "itll start peeling" lol the common quotes :)
I'm guessing you've never washed a car before. C'mon man paper towels.
thanks man I been looking for this stuff like crazy
Thanks for the video! This is great! I'm going to follow your technique when I Plasti Dip my rims on my new Jeep Grand Cherokee. I thought I would have to remove the tires and rims completely, but this method is much faster
Thanks for the video. I plan on dipping the rims on my 87 camaro pretty soon!
If you're contemplating doing this, just do it. It turns out A LOT better than you'd expect. I did it last weekend on my car and it looks sick. Only did three coats too.
Very helpful video, thanks!
after i dipped my Denali it became a mercedes!! :P nice video man keep it up!!!
Just dipped my stock chrome 20" rims on my Silverado, that should make it look different :D. Did 5 layers on each wheel, bought 4 cans.. All of the cans have half left in them, I did generous portions on my wide surface area. This gives me excuse to move on to the grill and lower air valance!! Dippin, thanks for your video!! Thinking about shooting the rims on my dad's benz just to scare him!!
Awesome, thanks man. The C-Class front end is just too sexy to get any other car.
hey man have you ever seen the black plasti dip with the plasti glossifier on a black car? does the shine and color of the new rims match the cars color? Thanks man im thinking about doing my charger rims
Agreed, but then again it's all about the prep work
Do you have a corrosion problem on those yukon wheels? Because I have the 2007 Xl Denali with those wheels and they are corroding away making them leek air...
nice, we watched the video and now my son wants to do the same thing
Nice work
Did the grill and lower air Valence, this is on the NBS Silverado, and I must say it looks awesome! Also did a black bug/rock guard on the front portion of the hood very distinct look to the front of the truck!
Nice job
Great video. I'm planning on using red plasti dip on my rims so I can get a nice red tint. How would I protect my tires from the paint? Would I have to bag the entire thing? Or can I just spray the tires and clean it off with something else later?
can't believe you turned them nice wheels into 5 dollar plasti wheels!
haha "you dont want that", nice vid
If you were to go through a car wash with your dipped wheels will they peel when they scrub the rims with brushes? Given that it's had 4-5 days to settle? Do you take your car through car washes? Or do you wash it yourself? Thanks.
Good vid
How long have you had your rims plastidipped for and does it start peeling off after a while, also how'd you remove your front license plate bracket?
i'm planning on dipping my rims, the badges and some chrome parts on my bumpers. how many cans do you think i'm gonna need? thanks.
What springs do you have on your C300? H&R?
Hi, how do you clean the plastidip from the tire when you paint the rimms on the car? thk! great video
How do you recomend cleaning the rims after a long time after finished?
How do you like the c300 ? Im planning on buying one very soon. Daily driver, about 60 miles a day.
Ah ok,question will it peel off when I rotate my tires? would I have to just redip the rim or just the bolts.. Not sure if the peeling will occur when they take the bolts off.
What gives?? You started on one type of wheel but showed the finished product on a completely different wheel? Thumbs down dude! That's like bait and switch
I actually agree. I watched this shit because the one he started with actually resemble my stock wheels which I wanted to see what they would look like finished up. And switching off to a different wheel just wasted my time.
Thanks
good video
Really want to do this on my 2013 back avenger sxt
that's a statement, not a comment. (nobody cares)
Give it a good week or two before doing any rough cleaning (like scrubbing) the longer you wait the better the bond will be and the less of a chance there will be for them to peel off.
Where did you get that can?
Hey i have a 2001 eclipse and due to the year of the car and the area it has a little discolor from rust. Its only discolored but will it affect the finish of the rims?
Does it matter what temperature u do it in?
where do you get your plasti-dip?
Did you use the glossifier?
I'm thinking of doing this to my 12' chevy Cruze,, I'm most likey going to take the tires off to do it.. My question is how do you keep them clean? I'm figuring you can't bring it to a car wash once you do this correct? I'm also thinking of doing my grill any tips? :)
hey bro nice video, question tho. i want black rims but i dont want the matt finish. is there a type of clear coat i could use to make the rims look darker and alittle shinny.
thanks for vids. question though. I bought my car with rims already plastidipped, and I used aluminum rim cleaner by Mcguire and scrubbed too hard and peeled off chunks of my plastidip. so now how do you recommend I fix the parts I scrubbed off? thanks for any advice. from Hawaii
+Bernard Doria hey man, i suggest take off that plastidip u scrubbed off and re spray it the original color, if u re paint over it, u will still see the subbed marks through the paint. hope this helps out
TheImmortalMoonLion yes helps out a lot. Thanks man. Much appreciated!
no problem
What if you have scruffs and scratches? Will it effect the bonding?
i just plastidip my 22" chrome rims black and i went through 3 1/2 cans and about 3-4 hours...i also did 5 coats on each rim
How does the plastidip hold up over time? Just wondering since it peels off so easily...
for about 4 $ (us) you can buy a handle at advance autoparts to hold the spray paint can easier
What heppens if you get a flat and you need to take lugs off? Im assuming they will take some damage. How do you prperly put them on and repaint after?
How did you cover your emblem
you could see the blotches in the first coat of the first wheel. So im guessing it only got progressively worse which explains the changing of the wheel
Are chrome rims harder to dip
Alright thanks. Also I've never plasti dipped anything, do u think I culd plastidip my rims?
hi, how many cans do i need for my 16" stock rims? a set of stock rims. thanks
what if I have screws and bolts on the face of my rim would it be bad to plastidip that?
how many bottles will it take
It's a rubberized coating, so the discoloration under it shouldn't affect the outcome.
How many cans you use for one rim? I tried painting my rim but by my 3rd coat the plasti dip can started spraying very bad, in clunks or bubbles..
please answer
how many cans did u need to do this
Alright cool thanks
you can also use newspaper. I personally think its a waste to use a garbage bag just for that :P
Hey buddy can you plasti dip exhaust tips?
how many cans per rim?
SIMPLE TIP: USE A BLOWER (Like what u use to blow leaves) TO BLOW THE BULK OF THE WATER OFF, THEN DRY WITH MICROFIBER RAG.
I do appreciate the time and effort to make the video, but no one ever seems to care about the OVERSPRAY in the wheel barrels. Even the 'dipyourcar' guy does every thing on the car and states 'another happy customer'.
Who would be happy and content with over spray in the barrels? It'd look like permanant brake dust. It takes longer to pull the wheels off and do some taping, but the end result is perfect. I'd make a video but I've already got mine done
Wherr Can I Buy Plasti Dip ?
lowes is 6.58 a can, white and black
can you remove if one wants to?
yep, it peels right off, no residue or anything
Was it just me, you started on a GMC chrome wheel but showed a black Mercedes wheel, as the finished product. You not kidding 5 coats will make a big change :---)))) Just happened the MBZ was powder coated and baked on......You telling me that MBZ was a Plast Dip rim?
Looks like the Mercedes Benz has a nice size knot in that tire
i want this on my v-dub! i'm just scared i'm gonna fuck it up haha
THIS COATING IS ONLY THE OUTER COAT...WHAT ABOUT THE INNER SIDE OF THE RIM? SECONDLY DO I NEED TO WASH THE RIMS AFTER PLASTI DIPPING?
He explained that the first wheel for demonstrating only. If you actually listened to what he was saying smh.
Walmart now sells it!
You can get it from Walmart now. About $6.47 a can.
A man I just bought a car and I think the previous owner did this to the rims but the edges on the front set are peeling. I can shoot you over some pics and maybe you can tell me what to do to fix them.
As i understand, plasti can be peeled off. The proper way for your fix would be to strip all old plasti off and repaint new.
Yeah... 5 coats turned the GMC into a Mercedes... completely changed the vehicle, I need to plastidip my Gremlin to up the value like that.
Thanks for the video. Very informative. But for the love of god! Stop calling it plexi dip! LOL
This is why he used the garbage bag and stuffed it inside the wheel covering the brake pads etc.
Dude you're spraying way too close to the wheel, you really need to be further away and do consistent smooth sprays
You did it on a truck and completed the video with a mercedes?
its titled 'how to plastidip' but 70% of this video is how to wash something w soap n water.
You just don't want that
who puts wheel weights on the outside of non-steel rims? seriously
A static balance doesn't get the job done
you can do a dynamic balance, with hammer on weights on the inside lip plus stick on weights lining up across from the edge of the hub.
simply dnt wash it then spend the next days regretting the time you spent plastidipping the wheels :)
Dont be lazy and just take A extra 3 to 4 minutes to remove the tire first.
+manny6584 u don't need to take it out
+TheImmortalMoonLion I see that but the time it took you to cover up the calipers and breaks, you could have just removed the tire. If it works for you... that's all that matters I guess
+manny6584 how's it up there on your horse?
+Vincent Vinny it's actually pretty nice up on my horse, and when my "horse" gets thirsty, I'm going to ride him to the water and not get off and bring the water to him like I'm sure you would do...
Horse?
Finish the rest of that nasty chrome on your car
Actually you want a little bit of tire shine around the tire so the plasti dip is easy to remove, and paper towels... really? I love when people make vids on youtube and have no idea what there doing.....
Patrick Doran where's your video
Well if i made a video it would be better then this piece of shit vid.. And i did dip my rims and they turned great....
Yeah! A little annoying. What is that? Brain buffering?
This is not how you paint...
Good thing it's not paint
