product does not work as advertised.. did some strategic striping on my car ( 89 honda civic ) plus improved spoiler in the back but it still does 0 to 60 in 20 minutes.
I've tried this trick, and a little tip for anyone is once you've done the first spray move the rubber mat slightly left or right and up or down slightly and it makes the carbon directional and looks way more realistic. Plus if you as coats of gloss it blends in much better 👍
+tuckersaspy good job on the painting technique..it's one of those use what you have to make something looking interesting and cool but that comment about running faster was pretty funny 😁
Of course Fonzie has a great mind obviously lol, but pretty sure I got him on the shelf liner, replay 6:05 - 6:20. (Im Josh). Ive been doing this CF design for a few yrs now, and decided to do it with dip. Fonzie and his crew were trying to get the CF look and then I posted on the forum about it, pointing them in the right direction. No doubt they would have figured it though if i hadn't posted, they are a very bright group of people.
I did this same thing when I was like 15 and painting my nitro rc car bodies that was 10 years ago. Glad to see someones still using this technique. Brings back memories
For plastic and metals, this is a good method. For leather, i'd go for something more durable. They make spray on leather dyr for people looking to refinish/recolor leather and faux leather seats. Can easily be sprayed through a small paint gun or airbrush.
hit it lightly from a slight angle with a dark grey or black, then from the opposite angle with a spritz of white or light grey. this will add shading to the squares, giving them a better appearance of depth. as this project was sprayed, I would spray a light coating of dark grey downward to add shading to the bottom of the squares, and upwards with white or light grey to add highlight to the top of the squares. (the matt has some thickness to it, which blocks/masks those areas a little) (before you do the metalizer layer)
Once spray paint is fully dry, it won't have an odor to it. It is usually the solvents that you are smelling. Once those have fully evaporated, leaving just the 100% dry paint, there shouldn't be an issue.
Big difference between the two. Clear is just plasti dip with no tint in it and leaves a kinda matte effect. Gloss does the opposite as it, well leaves a gloss finish.
slidog24 ya, but I think he was comparing it to regular automotive painting where "clearcoat" is the transparent glossy coating over the colored car paint. So glossifier is sort of the plasti dip version of clearcoat.
For anyone who doesn't believe this looks like carbon fiber, I have been doing this design for a few years now, and from 6ft and farther away, it looks just like it. there are also ways to make it look more realistic with another step. But this is obviously intended for looks, not as a replacement.
@@KHeidendal carbon fiber comes in many orientations. It has something called a "warp direction" which is the direction the carbon fiber lays. So carbon fiber going up and down can either have a 0° or 90° warp direction. And carbon fiber that is diagonal can have a +45° or -45° warp direction.
Yes. I plast dipped my old wheels black and drove on them for almost 2 years. They are in storage now as my second set and still black. I used to wash my car once a week at the carwash
You actually prep the leather with sandpaper and such to clean, as well as make an abrasive adhesion for the dye. Follow the directions that comes with your kit to get best results. It isn't like painting where a few more layers helps, too thick and it feels like plastic.
+master power You are right, carbon fiber is for saving weight, but carbon fiber parts are expensive, and because of the price people go for the paint or foil :)
If you do a few clear coats over the vinyl it lasts forever. I've had the same sun glasses for over a year that withstand abuse, sitting up on the dash in the sun and freezing cold winters all because of a clear coat over the vinyl.
NIce job, dude. As you stated, it is "Carbon Fiber Look". As you also stated, "This may not be for everyone...", it is obvious that haters gotta hate and I'd venture a guess that none of these haters have EVER lifted a finger to try to help others. You have 3.3 million views. Nice job, dude!
I've been doing this for a minute now. If you integrated some of the SMOKE into the pattern, it looks so much better. Also if you do it the opposite way, by laying the gunmetal first, it fresh! Doing the white with smoke and gunmetal is my favorite CF look.
Lmfao. By my personal experience, ricers are the ones that dont have money for aftermarket parts. Everyone loves to make their car look pretty an everyones definition of pretty is diff. Just cause someone wanted their car to look the way they want an sound the way they want an are out of funds for the proper upgrades, they're a ricer? tf? Pretty ignorant to me. Im about the performance not looks BUT i think the word ricer is kinda stupid. all men love cars. respect one another
Shift the mat down and to the right just slightly before the dusting of silver and it will give you that 3d look of weave. A light coat of black candy or over reduced black basecoat before clear and it will rock!
this is a great Idea for something i've got planned, I've got this body kit, Ive spent about 1200 dollars getting it pained but i wanted to add a second tone but i wanted it to be a carbon fiber look, and this idea is simply perfect, Now ive got actual carbon fiber parts on my car including splitters, however there's no way im gonna cut my body kit apart and try to attach carbon fiber to it cause that is ridiculous however this really is a great idea, thanks!!!
DipYourCar Suggestion, temporary spray tac for fabric on the rubber shelving mat to make a light-tac attachment to the black layer to allow for tight lines even on concave applications.
Hi .Im from Spain and I want to tell you ,if you could to subtitle the vídeos. Because I don't understand much of them and Im suscrite for a long time ago and I need the translate. Thanks!
yeah you can plasti dip almost everything... I did mine and it's really easy to aply and the look is verry nice ... just make sure that you do all the rims using the same way becose if for exemple you do it with one of your friend, he can shoot the paint in a different way and it will be visible on the final produc
Back in the 1950's, they would use the same technique on motorcycle gas tanks. They would create a lace pattern by using a head scarf of lace. Like the ones's ladies would wear on their heads in church.Or a fishnet fabric to give a snakeskin look. Would like to see you make a video using this.
For very complicated shapes, like interior trim and instrument panels, it should be possible to carefully coat the back-side of the shelf matting, with a gentle, removable adhesive, (available in spray cans from art supply stores,) and apply it like a sticky tape.
To Bernsen92a : for that more realistic look, after spraying through the mat once, let it dry, then move it down and to the left very slightly so that you only see the lower corners of the squares you just sprayed, then spray through the mat again and you got a more realistic look.
Never really understood the whole reason behind plasti dip, but the more I look into it I can see where it would be fun just to change stuff up. How would plasti Dip work on glass??
Lay it down exactly like he just did in the video, and make sure you don't have a lot of wind, and the whole spoiler should be wet when your done with a coat, if not, all the dry spots will catch that overspray, causing texture.
If you want your hood to look like a carbon fiber knock-off, do it. If you like the pattern, then go ahead, but just realize that it really doesn't look like carbon fiber. It is more of a novelty.
I love ideas like this. I would however suggest the rubber mat be folded taunt around the back of the iPad (or whatever you are coating), and then TAPE IT DOWN on the other side to insure the mat WILL NOT MOVE AT ALL in between coats to keep the pattern sharp and crisp looking. Good job Fonzi! Groove responsibly.
It's unfortunate you have to elaborate that it's only a visual representation for people looking for that carbon fiber look. Otherwise people would be saying "WTF lulz u runed da ipad UGLY". I'm tired of that shit. But great video, Fonzie! Joined the forums a while ago, hopefully dipping my car early Spring this year! Keep the videos coming, bro.
+Starcaller JìveTurkey Yes you can you can color match it too your car color to make it look stock set up. Real carbon fiber is has smooth finish. Those that say no don't wouldn't try it are the same dumb bone head to rice out a honda
home depot... its a flooring matt for hard wood floor. anti skid matt for hardwood floors.. look in rug and carpet department. its designed to go under rugs on hardwood
it would look very similar, but just a bit lighter. the gray is just for a good base design for the metalizer. you would need a lot of layers of metalizer to get a efficient design.
Glossifier is like clear plastidip, it will adhere and come off with the other colors. If you spray normal clearcoat on it, you won't be able to peel it off as one piece.
if you had known anything about this product, im pretty sure you would know that plasti dip will peel straight off of your cameras lens without any issues whatsoever.
I would remove the hood that would make the process easier. If you need that cloth thing just ask a shop/store that sells that kind of stuff. If they dont have it they could most likley make one for you.
nicely done. I'm doing a 2005 zx3 part vinyl part Plasti Dip. Using your Camo today I won't need to order yet a other expensive roll of military green vinyl. Also lower quarter of the zx3 is carbon fiber sim so your technique in this video is right on. Thanks for a great product and fine graphic medium for us serious and talented mod jockeys.
Ignor the pricks with negative comments, I really like the idea, it's a budget solution, ima give it a go, always wanted my old clonker of a car to be carbon fibre,, I just would prefer mat finish, is that possible?
technically anything carbon fiber doesn't increase HP but rather, decrease weight, thus increasing the power : weight ratio. even then it doesn't effect it that much so its much cheaper just to got for the look that carbon fiber brings than to dish out (x) amount of dollars just to get that look legitamently.
At first I was like that don't look like no carbon fiber it look like a checkerboard board but then he put the gloss on and BOOM! Carbon Fiber like magic, I've seen a lot of people change their chrome kidney grills to black but mines bout to carbon fiber
The mat material can be found at just about any 99 cent store here in the states, name brand store, or mom & pop store... I will buy the plasti dip and mat and will try my hood on my 99 civic, and will repost with link to see what ya think
Pro tip, I recommend covering the antenna (That black bar at the top of the ipad) with blue painters tape before plasti-dipping. The plasti-dip *may* have some signal degredation affects on the iPad, but it's probably not to significant.
Hey, i have a part of my car plasti dip with red color. What process would i need to go about to get it to be gloss black? Or would painting it just flat black be easier? Please help. Thanks.
MrSkypony i heard that it works well for guns, but it eventually starts to peel. So maybe if you just want something temporary then it's fine. If you want something permanent go with Duracoat.
I've actually been LOOKING for this damn mat just for this effect on props. nerdy as it is, I have a suit of foam armor I want to give a white carbon fiber look on, with a purple iridescence... And seeing how good that came out, I'm all for trying it even more now!
I would like to paint some metal shelves using this technique. is there any prep I need to do to the shelves or can I apply right over top of existing finish?
Pretty cool, though won't be an option over vinyl for a motorcycle tank... Correct me if I am wrong, but have been told that plastidip as far as I know won't withstand too well heat and repeated rubbing (knees over side of tank).
I did this to the spoiler of my car and it looks really good. I have a 2003 Gran Prix and it was pretty difficult but it was totally worth it. I could have gone heavier on the glossifier though.
i live in kuwait and its really hot, so basically its normal to see 50 degrees celcius an a daily basis just a simple question. will the matt black plastic dip stick to the paint of the car due to the extreme heat or not? I've plasti died my rims, spoiler and many of my cars badges!
product does not work as advertised.. did some strategic striping on my car ( 89 honda civic ) plus improved spoiler in the back but it still does 0 to 60 in 20 minutes.
hahahahahahahahahaha
You failed to read more into the product. It clearly states "horsepower will only increase if 'Plasti-Dip' sticker is applied"
Enrico Trombini use some sparkplug powder. It really helps.
For best results push it down a hill
may I recommend daily, intense bicep/tricep work until it burns real nice
I've tried this trick, and a little tip for anyone is once you've done the first spray move the rubber mat slightly left or right and up or down slightly and it makes the carbon directional and looks way more realistic. Plus if you as coats of gloss it blends in much better 👍
After i dip my car I'm dipping my ps4, Galaxy, the dog..... DIP IT ALL
the house, you gotta dip that too
albboy96 LOL, good idea and if it was fire retardant too it would make it more of a good reason to do it
Yeah dip it in dip it out---ALL!!!
Lol @my dog
Great idea ( dipping my chiwawa as we speak)
"Looks nothing like carbon fiber"
*adds gloss*
"OMG IM DOING THIS TO EVERYTHING I OWN"
Joe Tenney ur a ricer
Still doesn’t look like carbon fibre
Jason Romo I like dip when restoring $500 that I run into the ground anyone who insults the quality has never used it
That iPad must run much faster now!
JAJAJAJAJAJAAJ
Why? because dipshit trolling?
#dead
theres a difference between trolling and being sarcastic
+tuckersaspy good job on the painting technique..it's one of those use what you have to make something looking interesting and cool but that comment about running faster was pretty funny 😁
Damn it!! I thought that if I sprayed my steel hood with this it would totally turn it into Carbon Fiber.... well shit.
guess you missed the "look" in the title
*cough* sarcasm *cough* because of what he said *cough* obviously it wont *cough*
kiraanimerawr1 Explain this "sarcasm" thing you speak of. We no understand. :D
Just like painting PVC piping black, would make it just as strong as a steel roll cage.
kiraanimerawr1 you gotta check that cough out.... could be a bad cold or even worse an infection ;)
My whole house now looks like carbon fibre, in hindsight should've left 1 or 2 of the windows as they were
You just made my day 😊
Of course Fonzie has a great mind obviously lol, but pretty sure I got him on the shelf liner, replay 6:05 - 6:20. (Im Josh). Every ricer has got a great idea all of the sudden that this tutorial will make their car at least 75 pounds lighter!
75? Dude, you forgot the roof, and the stupid wing. that'll be good for another 50.
redrock861 Good point. Also if they put negative camber, wire wheels, and a fart can, how much would it give them?
+Nick Armock hahaha weight reduction add plastic lol
oh man, tell me about it! I bought new windshield wiper for my Denali guaranteed extra 8bhp!! LOL
All good man, buy a new set of shade, you'll walk faster! :P
I did this same thing when I was like 15 and painting my nitro rc car bodies that was 10 years ago. Glad to see someones still using this technique. Brings back memories

Im seein alot of honda haters here lol. Hondas are by far, the kings of aftermarket. I dont drive mine daily but, i would if i could. I love it

will this fit on my honda?
what kind of drugs you do son?

yeah pretty much

doesnt look like carbon fiber.. looks like a checkerboard
It would look a bit better if the silver was a bit darker. I agree, looks like a checkerboard
travis110109 and turn it 45 degrees. Carbon fiber is never straight up or flat.

Can I plasti dip my neighbors cat?
rod ney glad to know im not the only one....lol
I ran out of dip half way through
nitroAhmed good one lol
rod ney lightweight all the way
ya sure just make sure its done in a well ventilated area then you should be good

but, wait!!!! now it weighs more. isn't carbon fiber whole purpose was to save weight?

It for the look lol

im new to plasti dip but im starting to find it amazing
For Americans-If you have a 99 cent store near you? You can by that rubber matting for 99 cents for a huge piece of it. It comes in a small roll.
when he first whipped out the cupboard foam I was getting ready to laugh but it actually looked good in the end.
I've been doing this for a minute now. If you integrated some of the SMOKE into the pattern, it looks so much better. Also if you do it the opposite way, by laying the gunmetal first, it fresh! Doing the white with smoke and gunmetal is my favorite CF look.
there are now 2millions ricers with "carbon fiber" on their hondas
a ricer can be any car bro
90% of them are hondas
+Bashful Bones I drive a Honda but unlike ricers, I actually tune my car
Bashful Bones it's more like 60%

Looks good but seems like a lot of time and money for something that could look great in 10 minutes with $10 piece of vinyl.
Alot of people cant do Wrap. Plus paint can go into and around places better and easier than wrap.
When all you have is a hammer, everything starts to look like a nail. :D

lol
Its actually a plasti dip shirt.
Jaime F Plasti dip XtraMedium from the little boys section at The GAP.
DipYourCar Suggestion, temporary spray tac for fabric on the rubber shelving mat to make a light-tac attachment to the black layer to allow for tight lines even on concave applications.

How would you do this to a car hood with shelving mats?
I did it to my 2015 camaro hood. You just have to line it back up perfectly not as hard as it may seem
+Jordan Woods did it turn out nice?
Back in the 1950's, they would use the same technique on motorcycle gas tanks.
They would create a lace pattern by using a head scarf of lace. Like the ones's ladies would wear on their heads in church.Or a fishnet fabric to give a snakeskin look.
Would like to see you make a video using this.
isnt the carbon fiber pattern braids?
+Ahmed Yusuf Yea, but the raised parts of the weave reflect different than the lower parts so it ends up looking like a checker board.
yup
For very complicated shapes, like interior trim and instrument panels, it should be possible to carefully coat the back-side of the shelf matting, with a gentle, removable adhesive, (available in spray cans from art supply stores,) and apply it like a sticky tape.
I'm planning on doing this to my red hover board 💯💯
It's a Segway without handle bars not a hover board.
kylik lynch it's called a swegway lol
To Bernsen92a : for that more realistic look, after spraying through the mat once, let it dry, then move it down and to the left very slightly so that you only see the lower corners of the squares you just sprayed, then spray through the mat again and you got a more realistic look.
I don't have something to dip but if you dip your Ipad how do you do this with the camera on the back? It won't work with the carbon fiber look on it
You can always peel it off the lens:) hope that helped.
Tape over the lens or try to peel it off after you’re done!
Never really understood the whole reason behind plasti dip, but the more I look into it I can see where it would be fun just to change stuff up. How would plasti Dip work on glass??
I prefer the matte look before you sprayed the glossifier. Kinda made it look, y'know, fake.
Go to their website, buy the DipWasher. Use the dipwasher as a shammy, dry with air from a blower.
Absolutely nothing like carbon fiber...hahaha :'D
Btw...does anybody else remember how Moog tried to do this same technique on the TRD LZR??
He used normal paint not plasti
re-read my comment with some glasses and a dictionary....
#pleaseandthankyou
Yes, with enough force you could of course scratch through it, but it does have a thickness to it.
GENIUS!!!!!! That is awesome.
Lay it down exactly like he just did in the video, and make sure you don't have a lot of wind, and the whole spoiler should be wet when your done with a coat, if not, all the dry spots will catch that overspray, causing texture.

Better to leave it, or paint it a different color.
biglounumber12 cant buy a carbon fiber wrap at autozone.

I bet this ruined the speaker of the ipad!!!
I mean if the speakers are on the back then yeah 😂😂😂 but there but the charging port area out of the way
anas khan WHAT ABOUT THE CAMERA
mario jacobo YOU CAN PEEL THE DIP OF THE CAMERA
beckertastic next is what piercing through 600 speaker holes with needle :D
anas khan Its an first gen ipad. The speaker lives on the bottom of the device and there's no camera on the device.
It's lighter now...how much to carbon c fiber dip your car
You can plastic dip carbon fiber looks, but can you plastic dip over carbon fiber hoods, trunks, wings etc??
+Starcaller JìveTurkey I would not recommend trying.
+Birkes unless he's a Honda boy
+Starcaller JìveTurkey Yes you can you can color match it too your car color to make it look stock set up. Real carbon fiber is has smooth finish. Those that say no don't wouldn't try it are the same dumb bone head to rice out a honda
If he had a little more hair he would look like fabregas
To help stop peeling use wet grey scotch, you should do this with any paint spraying it's basic preperation
Removes that nasty apple mark :D
can add an exact apple logo stick to remove after the coats are complete
home depot... its a flooring matt for hard wood floor. anti skid matt for hardwood floors.. look in rug and carpet department. its designed to go under rugs on hardwood
So this guy is selling a diy ricer set
it would look very similar, but just a bit lighter. the gray is just for a good base design for the metalizer. you would need a lot of layers of metalizer to get a efficient design.
A little kiss of "Pure Gold" or "Olive Honey" before the clear would have given it some sparkle. Outstanding job!

if you had known anything about this product, im pretty sure you would know that plasti dip will peel straight off of your cameras lens without any issues whatsoever.
It's in any Hardware or Home Depot type store.
It's called Shelf Liner or Drawer Liner.
if you spray the foam mat with a temporary artist's spray adhesive you can use it on more oddly shaped pieces.
I would remove the hood that would make the process easier. If you need that cloth thing just ask a shop/store that sells that kind of stuff. If they dont have it they could most likley make one for you.
nicely done. I'm doing a 2005 zx3 part vinyl part Plasti Dip. Using your Camo today I won't need to order yet a other expensive roll of military green vinyl. is it true that plastidip is damaged by car wax? is it true that plastidip must be renewed after one year because after that it wont peel off easily?
Not sure about damaging by wax. But if you apply plasti dip correctly it will last years
Does anyone know what psi he uses to fill his biceps? Any info will help
It will also work and i think better with carpet tape the squares are smaller and more crisp.

u are such a pro bro. This is look very sick. almost better than carbon fiber.wow
Hey, i have a part of my car plasti dip with red color. What process would i need to go about to get it to be gloss black? Or would painting it just flat black be easier? Please help. Thanks.
Remove red plasti dip. Buy black plasti dip& glossifier, follow instructions and have gloss black
i did the inside of my doors on my s14, looks amazing tbh
How does it seem to be holding up to wear? Im thinking of doing a pistol but worried about holster wearing it off
seems to be holding very well actually, easy to clean too :P
how often do u use it? my s14 is daily driven so i guess it will last a while
MrSkypony i heard that it works well for guns, but it eventually starts to peel. So maybe if you just want something temporary then it's fine. If you want something permanent go with Duracoat.
dtester you gotta use high temperature paint if you want to use for guns i believe.

its shelving mat you can get it at walmart, home depot, lowes, target, super cheap
I'd love to plasti dip my car in that carbon fiber look. It looks awesome.
Can i use a clear coat spray instead of a glossifier
Sanad Moqbel Yes. But it will be very hard to peel off if/when you want to.
enlighten me on this, why is that so? Like is the glossifier lighter or something?
Are there any coating that doesn't make it shiny/glossy? Kinda like fog or matte
+Wisteria Berlitz they have a matte clear
You can use the mesh tape you use to repair dry wall or fiberglass. Just use thin coats so it dries fast and peel it off.
Can you do this with regular spray paint as well?
I don't see why you couldn't but you won't be able to peel it off when you screw up.
yes
Fonzi your the man!!!! In Fonzi we trust all hail fonzi
i hope you can answer me that question: how does plastidip feels like? soft? like normal paint? like the surface you spray it on?
I would like to paint some metal shelves using this technique. is there any prep I need to do to the shelves or can I apply right over top of existing finish?
prep /cover any surrounding material
+Rudy Villa Thank you - do I need to scuff/sand the shelves or can I apply the plasti-dip right over top?
dnyhof make sure you clean the surface area good and yes you do need stuffing when it comes to cars and wood,
Pretty cool, though won't be an option over vinyl for a motorcycle tank...
I could have gone heavier on the glossifier though.
i have a friend picking up the Blaze yellow kit later today in Coral Springs! this carbon fiber look is deff something i'd like to do. good job guys!
Fonzie for President!
i live in kuwait and its really hot, so basically its normal to see 50 degrees celcius an a daily basis
just a simple question.
will the matt black plastic dip stick to the paint of the car due to the extreme heat or not?
I've plasti died my rims, spoiler and many of my cars badges!
I feel like its a great replica. perhaps another coat with a finer mesh and a silver after? cool job. it looks great.
