0:00 Introduction: Understanding the root cause of flabby arm fat
0:31 Sarcopenia and age-related muscle loss
1:02 The role of fascia in maintaining arm shape and function
2:57 The importance of functional exercises
3:13 Recommended arm workout videos to enhance fascial health and muscle strength
Flabby arms can be a frustrating problem for many individuals, especially as they age. The loss of muscle mass and strength in this area can not only affect physical appearance but also limit daily activities and overall quality of life. In addition to sarcopenia, the process of age-related muscle loss, flabby arms can also be caused by weakened fascia.
Fascia is a connective tissue that surrounds and supports muscles and other structures in the body. Without proper maintenance and movement, it can become tight or restricted, leading to a decreased range of motion and weakness in the associated muscles. This is why targeting both the muscles and fascia is crucial for effectively improving flabby arms.
Functional exercises, which involve multi-joint movements that mimic everyday tasks, are key to targeting muscle and fascial health. Working multiple muscles and joints at once helps strengthen and activate the surrounding fascia, which can lead to tighter, more toned arms with improved strength and function.
To incorporate exercises into your routine to help improve the fascia, I recommend trying out the three workout videos linked above. These videos focus on a variety of movements that target the arms, shoulders, and fascia for a well-rounded approach to flabby arm reduction.

I do radio frequency on my arms and microneedling too. I also smear my arms with glycolic acid, vitamin C and retinol creams. Nothing has helped with my saggy, crepey skin. I’m going to start using your strategy today. I’m skeptical but I’m willing to try everything that seems like it might help. I’ll report back if I get improvement. Thank you for sharing this. Hi Dr.Berg, I’ve been an RMT for over 22 years and one big comment about fascia is that it requires hydration to function effectively. This was highlighted in Jean-Claude Guimberteau’s research at many of the world fascial research congresses time and time again. Fascia requires multi directional movement in general because it is a web of structured hydrophilic tissue. In the first video you highlighted movement saying no weight but what makes the movement successful is the tone of the muscle intertwined with the fascial structure in a beautiful interplay. We can’t separate the two. Anytime we move our limbs extended it is using weight unless we move the arms bent and close by the body. In this way long lever movements include weight of the limb. I like that you presented this because fascia is important and many of us end up with adhesions because of lack of hydration or lack of movement twisting the bodysuit of tissue that exerts 2,000 lbs per square inch. In this way we have more success moving it with functional movements. Hydration , muscle movement and functionally of multiple muscle groups lending to tone leads to better fascial health. I enjoy your work. Thank you.

❤ Excellent! Thanks for showing us a new way to work on these areas!
I am a Myofascial Release Therapist, trained with John F. Barnes, PT Method. We are always releasing the tense/restricted fascia but not talking about the other side of the coin. Which, in my opinion, is how we train the body in a new holding pattern that is more flexible and resilient than before! I have followed your videos for years now and I have received so much wonderful information. I hope to hear more from on the subject of resilient flexible fascia! 😊

    Dr Berg notes:
    Thank you Dr Berg!

I now call these people Askholes. They ask, you tell, they do nothing but waste your time and energy. Now if they ask I just say I don’t know.

I wasn't exactly what you called overweight... but I knew that I could lose some weight and see my abs. So I cut out cereals , pies, cakes, cookies, ice-cream, brownies bread and processed foods and went downto around 173 and staying in that range. I'm not 100 percent canivore but I'm as close to it as I will be. It's so easy to lose weight but people think that they need to spend big money having someone tell them how to do it or buy food from some overpriced diet company.

Wow I did not know this! I am 62 and have had the 'bat wings" for several years and have blamed aging . I just joined a gym about 3 weeks ago, so good to know that just an arm workout will not help this problem! Definitely going to check out the videos - thank you!

My older brother send me this link after I told him about how, even though I lost a lot of weight, I still have those kinda arms and they give me the feeling as if I didn't lose any weight at all.
Bought a dumbell recently, thinking this would do it. Will continue using it (especially with the movement above the head now), but try the other things as well.
Will come back when I was successful. 💪🏻

Great timing. I have this issue after every child. It takes so much work to tone my arms again. It really sucks, but Im constantly working out my arms for months. I actually follow blogilates the woman in the video to tone my arms along with weight training. I'm glad to know Im on the right track. Thank you Dr. Berg!

Fascia! Thanks dr Berg, finally know now. So I have been doing that arms exercises since the end 2020, its been included in my work out regime (plus plank, mountain climb etc etc). Total duration 10-30min depending on my HIIT menu. I do these 2-3 a week, but being real there were times when life got so busy I only did that for 1x a week. But still the result is great, my arms get tighthen over the time, I started to see the result after 3-4months. Since last year, I added dumbell into my work out routine, feeling even greater :)

This brings to mind aerobics in the 80s and 90s. I was an instructor for many years and these are the movements we did. We hardly ever used weights but worked the entire body still.

All the women in my family have always had these arms. I currently have a BMI of 20 and have always had these big floppy arms. When I’m driving a car and holding the steering wheel out of the corner of my eye, I can see the movement of my arms. From a young age, I’ve always had dimpled thighs too. No matter how much I exercise.

Look up Lipedema (US) or lipoedema (UK) can't believe I spent years, since 16 with signs of cellulite despite my small frame, especially waste and chest. Not knowing about this condition. It's abornm fat, probably linked to an autoimmune response.
