I’m 53 and weighed 185 lbs, all of it around my abdomen. I was having hot flashes, night sweats, dizziness, mood swings, sleep issues, irritability, and bouts with anxiety. Last May I was fed up with those symptoms and decided to try keto and intermittent fasting. It has certainly been a journey with a lot of course corrections, but I am now 150 lbs and feel so good! I have eliminated all the symptoms and am determined this is the lifestyle for me. I’m in maintenance for a bit right now, but am now starting to add exercise to get stronger. The main thing is not the weight loss for me … I never want to feel the way I did before.
I‘m turning 54 today. Happy birthday to me 🎉. I’m back on the wagon after I had the Norovirus for a week. Yup it straightened me out real quick. 0 carbs. Healthy eats. I hope I can hold on until Thanksgiving. I hope you can keep it up, too. 😊
I was very lucky, I am almost 70 I eat well, I am still waiting for my first menopause symptom! No sugar no carbs, full fat organic milk, no plastic jug!! Walnuts and avocados. I have never smoked, I have never drank beer or alcohol! I swim daily from 7:00 a.m. till 9:00 a.m. 100 laps minimum. I don't drive I walk everywhere! I volunteere a homeless shelter 60 hours a week! I don't have any belly fat! I left 20 years younger than my friends! Dr Berg is my hero!
I gained 25 lbs , my anxiety was out of control!! I stopped sugar and carbs., all junk food, increased my veggies, healthy fats and protein along with intermittent fasting. The results were miraculous. I have maintained this lifestyle for tens years now.
@@samsamthecat492 During the day, I like to eat the same thing every day, then eat a healthy low carb dinner. This allows me to have a general idea of my caloric intake every day. When I was loosing weight 5 years ago I didn’t know about Intermittent Fasting. Ate breakfast at 10:30, 2 eggs and half whole wheat English muffin with little butter; at around 3pm had a yogurt and green apple. For dinner have some sort of meat, 2 vegetables and a salad. My husband is Italian so we do have a whole wheat pasta dish about once a week. During Covid got a pasta maker, make my own pasta now. Now I do intermittent Fasting, varying the time from 16 to 22 hours. Since my first meal is now in the afternoon, I don’t feel like eating fried eggs, so I have a couple hard boiled instead, then some cottage cheese and indulge with a small measured amount of popcorn, then normal dinner. I also exercise every day, currently do an hour on an elliptical occasionally swapping with walking , also do weights 3 times a week for bone health.
My mother is 90 and looks 20 years younger. She lives alone and does everything by herself. She never did any formal exercise but walks everywhere and carries heavy groceries home. ( Doesn’t drive). She ate healthy and never any fast food or junk food. She’s about 4’10 and weighs about 100 lbs. She eats 3 healthy meals a day and no snacks.
That’s a blessing! May she live another 20 years ❤ My grandmother was lean her entire life, never drank alcohol, chocolate or processed foods, walked everywhere (never drove) and died of brain cancer at 70. Sadly, it sometimes is the cards you are dealt.
I lost 130 lbs from late 2020 to late 2022. Simply, Keto…Sometimes Carnivore…..light exercise. I take some supplements and have added calcium rich food, mostly dairy as I don’t digest leafy green vegetables. I have gone from a 54 inch waist to a 30ish inch waist. I have a lot of skin, but hopefully overtime, my intermittent fasting will deal with that. I’m 63.
OMG! I have been in perimenapause for 5 years and finally hit menapause last year. I gained a full size around my midsection. I have been working out like a crazy person! That always kept me slim. Not anymore. I've even gained more weight! This video makes sense and I dont understand why more doctors dont tell you the truth! They want to push HRT. I started estradiol 2 months ago and Im sleeping better but the weight is not coming off. I've wanted to pull my hair out and never felt so awful and less sexy in my life. Im going to put all of these steps into action and see if the inches fall off around my waist. I just want my body back! Aging for women is a cruel joke! I hope this video is life changing! 🙏
get real, you cannot get your old body back, its a pipe dream. accept menopause. HRT is a godsend, stay on it forever, I have been on it 14 years. really helps skin, hair, heart health, everything!
I feel you. My butt and waist and upper arms are so thick now I look awful in most clothes which I used to look nice in. Cry! Have you heard of bio-identical HRT? Watched some videos and it seems to be better...
This is amazing. So when I sprinted, then walked until I completely caught my breath and the sprinted again, I lost the most weight. I didn’t even understand what I was doing. But it worked.
I’ll be doing this for 2 miles. I just started running up to 5 miles and I did lose weight….but it stopped. My trainer told me to increase the intensity of running. So I decided to do sprint drills for 2 miles. Thanks for posting this comment!!
If you are past menopause… high intensity for short periods of time only! When you are older cortisol will Jack you up if you do cardio for more than 10 minutes. Cortisol (from stress) causes the insulin response and insulin stores fat. Most people don’t understand that fat loss happens with metabolic hormone control… not with long exercises.
@@FoodiesFoodLifeI do cardio for 15-30. I'm 54, had years of menopause hell, and despite working as an athletic trainer for 30 years I was a train wreck. Once I focused on water, fiber, getting all three macros in fresh, home cooked meals, ample sleep and rest, and took workouts down to 30 minutes or less, I lost the weight that ballooned up on me and reversed the problems. I'd been working out like an athlete since. High school, so 30 minutes is very short and easy to me.
I'm almost 67. In May of this year I weightv165. I'm 5ft 7 in. I hated it. Felt heavy, had to buy a larger size. Decided that's enough. I fasted,no breakfast,no sugar, bread. In a month ,no lie I lost 20 lbs. I'm now 143. That's as far as I go. I'm active with my house outside and inside but I really think it's the sugar and processed foods. Hope everyone just has the determination. It feels great!
Very inspiring. I will be 67 in 4 days. 5’4” and 173 and FED UP with myself! clothes, bras, nothing fits anymore! At 145 pounds. I have a very cute figure! I have done this kind of eating before, and felt great! That was and I didn’t think it would work again after menopause. But I haven’t exactly tried very hard either. Time to do it again, and make it work.
This is pure gold and it explains so much. I was running up to 5k 4-5 times a week this summer. I was so exhausted, my legs felt heavy and weak, my weight would come down slightly and then go up. I sprained my ankle and told myself there must be a good reason why, well here it is. Thanks so much Dr. Berg!
@@CarefulHowYouStep I did keto when I was younger and lost 30 pounds in a few months. Now I'm over 50 and I did keto for 4 years and only lost 10 pounds, that came back in a week after I stopped. Now I'm fasting, tomorrow is day 4 of a water fast.
nice job! im younger so im not certain if this will work as well, but ive been fasting while taking greens powders, so im in a fasted state but also getting nutrition. ive been shedding weight quickly. it all starts with basic nutrition and exercise and then when we find our sweet spot we can really hit our stride@@alanabowker1363
Wow those symptoms .. anxiety, nervousness, low tolerance to stress, hard to stay sleep ... all me right now!! Also explains why I don't lose weight despite working 12 hr nursing shifts where I get exhausted. Thank you!
Me too with those symptoms. I couldn’t understand why I don’t handle stress like I use to and have an anxiety response that is so much stronger. This then makes it harder to tolerate pain. I even believe that my autoimmune disorder started as a result of this happening.
I’m in menopause, 7years in, and on HRT. Evorel Conti 100mg. Started on 50mg, then 75mg, now 100mg. I find low carb eating and doing HIIT (high intensity interval training 1min on, 1min off, or 2min on, 2min off etc for a 20min workout ) and weight bearing exercise is beneficial more than cardio. You get a bit of cardio from weight training anyway. Also do stretching Yoga and Pilates moves too, and I dance to disco music on my rebounder! Eating protein and healthy fats and concentrating on toning muscle as muscle is metabolic, is beneficial as it burns calories. I was never overweight in my life until menopause.
My menopause started at 51.5 was completely done with symptoms in less than 6 months, why, Anna's wild yam cream...I used for 9 months...completely done with everything by 53.. buy online it will change your life
This is valuable particularly for women like me who have worked out for years. In the last 6 months I’ve gained 15 lbs all from stress. I worked out like a beast and for years my body looked great. Out of nowhere the weight gain started. Took a month off and weight kept coming…I decided to switch up my workouts. note: I am a powerlifter. I now go no higher than 20lbs on free weights and 45 lbs on the machine. I do 10 mins of brisk cardio per workout at 4 times a week. I always did intermittent fasting so that wasn’t a problem. I have lost 4 lbs in the last week. I shortened my workout to no more than 45 mins. I do some sort of ab exercise in my workout. My stomach and waist have come down. I am not heavy or fat, I’m very muscular but that 15lbs was a huge red flag. I also realize that it doesn’t take much to tone up. You don’t need heavy weights. Low weight high reps work perfectly. My one takeaway was to rest more between sets which I rarely do. We have been taught to keep that heart rate up which is still true but it’s the length of time that makes the difference. Thank you so much Dr. Berg!
Hi, I noticed recently that low weight, high reps for just 20 min 6 times a week plus sometimes with additional 20 min rebounding (not every day) really stresses me much less than 3 workouts with heavy weight, the result is that I am losing my belly, I use kettlebells at home, I have the 10kg, I wanted to buy the 16kg because I can but I decided I could still use the 10kg and do much more reps, I will keep using it for now. My point is less stress before exercising because I know I don't have to do heavy weights, less stress while I exercises because I know it's not going to be long workouts so maybe that is the way... I don't know but good luck to everyone here and thanks for sharing your experiences 😊🙏
I went through an early menopause (aged 44) that coincided with being treated with steroids for Crohns, and developing arthritis. We didnt have this type of quality of information available. Fast forward 25 years and Im so glad we have it now, and hope that many women are able to take charge of their lives.
I'm 55, weighed 98kilogramms , diabetic, menopause and struggling to loose weight. Went on keto diet and IF about a year ago and since then have lost about 20 kilos feel energetic and yes I reduced my diabetic treatment to more than half the dose I used to take initially. Thank you millions Dr Berg for your videos and advices because right now, I do have issues with sleep. Please keep up the great job you're doing.
What's 98 kilograms in pounds? And was the 20 kilos you lost 20 kilos off your weight? If so, what's 20 kilos in pounds? I'm used to going by pounds, not kilograms. Congrats on your weight loss success.🥰
A kilo is about 2.2 pounds. So 20 kilos is around 44 pounds. Thank you so much for your advices and responses. My glycemic level came down and I reduced my treatment upto half the dose. I feel great and l wear European size 44 while I used to wear 50! and that too....😮. Nobody gives me my age even. Million thanks Dr Berg.❤
This is the best advice ever. I know it being 55. Tried to go jogging for an hour 2 times a week. Only got bigger. Long walks instead every day. Got skinnier.
I am 63 and in 2020 I started changing what I ate. Started walking. I do intermittent fasting. Cut carbs/sugar. I lost 60 pounds and I have kept it off, eating clean, no junk food, use collagen daily in my coffee or smoothie. I went from a size 18 to a size 10.
I'm 56 and went through surgical menopause at 35. I went through menopause without hormones. I have Lupus and Antiphosphoid lipid syndrome ( blood disorder) I had blood clots. My obgyn and hemotologist both said no hormone therapy. Since March of 2023 I've gained a lot of weight and that was due to a fracture in my back, so I couldn't even get out of bed. And so I couldn't walk or do my Yoga the pain was excruciating!! It seems like I gained it all in my belly. I'm now healed up and can now start Yoga and I'm doing Semaglutide to loose at least the 40 lbs I put on from March 2023 to now. A note to all those women who read this, PLEASE take your Vit D and Calcium. My fracture was do to osteoporosis. Take care of yourself ladies❤❤❤❤
I'm sorry you did not get guided to Creighton Model ferilitycare system - you got standard mainstream crap :( I'm a nurse practitioner, as well as a patient who HAD (past tense) several autoimmune, including lupus but that was easier to get rid of thad the type I diabetes not "diet" related. I cam't feel my low sugar, which cause seizures, etc. BUT..got great help through the system I teach and it's been helpful. I am truly sorry you (and I through the decades, myself too) went through the hell of a horrible, neglectful healthcare system :(
K2 and blood thinners don't go together. I have the same DX: Systemic Lupus and Hughes Disease. I have been eating low carb, and no carbs plus fasting and I can't get rid of the last of my belly fat. After menopause it will go away with my eating plan, but until then 😅
Some good information. I wish I had known this when I started Menopause. I had Adrenal Exhaustion because life was full and busy. Had to learn to totally relax with meditation. I am past it now, but Menopause information is needed. Thank you Dr Berg👍🏽
I have sat through many long hours of videos from fitness experts and naturopaths talking about perimenopause. I have never understood it more clearly than in this 10mins video. Thx Dr Berg
I can by experience, tell you that this advice is so accurate. I was diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer and given 8 weeks to live, I actually beat it and I wont go into the details of that, but in the aftermath my body was just so broken. I was a runner and weightlifter prior to this so I knew it was all about the load that my central nervous system could handle each day. So I started with a 5 min walk and had 2 days recovery (thats how bad it was). Over 4 years I built up to being able to train in zone 2/3 for 2 hours (I love trail running) 3 days a week. I also, via some intermittent fasting and zone 2 training adapted my body to metabolise fat during these low heart rate zone workouts (very handy! lol) I can also weight train again, and I am building this up slowly, and once I hit the target for that specific workout, the workout is over. I figure, my CNS got the trigger for the adaption, so I go right into recovery mode. As part of the medical side of things I has a full hystorectomy and overnight the shock of having no ovaries (on top of everything else) really hit my system. However by doing little bits of training and then recovering properly made me feel so much better. I think that prioritising peace, good eating habits and prioritizing recovery in order for the adaptions to take place is a great investment in our health. It took 4 years to get to this point via consistent work and consistent rest, and I have learnt this: Slower is Faster. In terms of fat loss, this is a stress on the human body, so be gentle. Dont look at all the lies on social media of people saying "I lost 2 kg per week blah blah blah". Its not sustainable, messes with metabolism, increases cortisol etc. Walking and making a nutrition plan and throwing in some more challenging workouts here and there in a sustainable way is a much healthier long term strategy. If you have to start with a 5 min walk like i did, there is nothing wrong with that. It only gets better!
@@simonaca468 Hi! I am for around 70-100 grams of protein per day. The foods I eat are from the following: Nuts, beans, legumes, seeds, a lot of veggies - esp the green ones like spinach, broccoli, kale etc.I use potato and sweet potato lots. I really like fruit especially berries and watermelon. I use olive oil and coconut oil in cooking/baking. I dont have any processed foods. Im actually plant based so I supplement with Vit12, Calcium, Iron and Iodine. To meet the protein needs I have tofu/Tempeh and I have a protein powder in shakes with berries and banana. I really love kimchi! I think that prioritising protein and then having lots of vegetables etc is a great general direction to go in. I do have to plan ahead but I like cooking so its fun. For snacks I like oat bars- they r really simple to bake. I made a soup yesterday that has: sweet potato, brocolli, green peas, chic peas leek and garlic. So yum! For fat loss I eat the same things but make a calorie deficit. But not a large one. Just a gentle 300-400 one. I think if i do more than that I feel stressed. So, slower is faster. When its a weight lifting day or big running day I try to get the 100g protein and add in more fats like walnuts or peanut butter. But Thursday is Apple Pie day! The farm I get all the veggies from has a cafe and make this epic apple pie and a great latte. So I smash that happily! YumYum Yum!
I'm 62 now and im so blessed that i don't have menopause or weight problems. I eat clean, carbs maybe 2x a week. No alcohol, sweets, walk, lift small dumbbells for tone and strength my waist is 29-31, weight at 136. 5'8. In my late 20s- 30s i was at 216 pounds. Feel and look way better now.
@@polytheneprentiss1534 i also asked same question but not got the answer. I am 53+ still i didn't get menopause. I am bit scared. But my mother told she got her menopause at 55.
This channel has been so helpful for me after surgical menopause. It has been a rough couple of years physically and mentally with little support. I've gained 35kg just this year alone and have struggled with depression and anxiety intensly. It's been a huge learning curve and there is no where near enough help and support. So I thank you for your content, it's really helped me take charge of my health.
Same here ! I had a historectom years ago ., and within days felt I'd lost myself . Put on so much weight . In the past, losing weight had been easy for me but not any longer . There's a continual creep up the scales . Also, an immediate loss of strength and stamina. That was so horrible as I had a job and family , house and garden to manage . I'm going to look into adrenal support now . Hope you're feeling more in control after watching Dr. Berg ? I know I am
@JW-yt7lr Me too! It used to be so easy to lose weight, and now weight loss is non-existent. I just had a bout of gastro and not even that shifted the scales. There is nowhere near enough support post hysterectomy. I feel doctors put us all under one big menopause umbrella, and that's just not how it is in real life, especially those with endo and adhesion pain. We're all different. But anyway, I've watched so many Dr Berg videos, he explains everything so well.
My ENTIRE life my periods were SO PAINFUL. At 57 all of a sudden IT STOPPED. No hot flashes, no mood swings, NO NOTHING. FANTASTIC! I deserve it. I DO need these tips about the belly fat though 😊
My Grandmother did the same thing😠(happy anger😅) and didn't have any symptoms, still had a cute figure and she transitioned at 104.5 years. She had a great life and I'm hopi g the same for you. Thank you so much for sharing❤
I'm passed my 70s. I followed your instructions and my belly is almost flat. Without exercising. I was never aware of just how much sugar I was consuming till I started keto. I still cheat and have chocolate, don't touch my chocolate or I'll murderlize you. I get excited looking at my almost completely flat belly. Thank you Doc.❤
This is a woefully unaddressed health issue. it's hard to imagine this huge change having little effect.. Personslly I suffered a great deal throughout menopause with a myriad of life effecting symptoms . Thank you very much Dr. Berg for adressing this health issue and this important information. .
Me personally, I started losing the most weight after reading the book Woman’s weight loss secrets: the unspoken truth, a few things you are mentioning in this video are also in the book
I'm 60, have struggled with weight my whole life. Did have years here and there where I was thin and body building. Loved it. How is it that I've turned into this dumpy lump of a person just in a few short years?!?!?! I literally eat and eat and eat. So weird. I'm fat. Like not even ok. I'm tired. Have little desire to do ANYTHING. So annoying. I'm a wealthy professional and have a lot to live for. I used to eat sensibly, intermittent fast, no food from 4pm-10am. Now? I feel like I'm being controlled by food demons. I know we care very much about one another in these commentary sections bc we share the same plight. All of you good people out here send me prayers and powerful mind positivity to get me going. Thank you. Love to all ....
Im pre-menapasal. Not sure how to incorporate the vitamins, and herbs? I have most of all those symptoms already. I agree with intermittent, and low carb. It did work very well for me. Now this new thing as you stated above is happening. Smh.
Don't be too hard on yourself. Sometimes life gets in the way and stress/trauma can make us over eat and not want to work out. Start really small and build yourself back, it can even be.... try not to eat after 8pm or make sure you get your 7-8 hours sleep. In time when you have a little more energy perhaps it may get you to walk at least 10 minutes outside a day. Baby steps. I will pray for you. All the best :)
March 2020 it was discovered that I had a small tumor on my adrenal gland. Went to a specialist who said it was benign. Low fat, low carb diet...I'm 59 (f) had a partial hysterectomy at 49. For the past 3 years I've been in menopause. Work out 5 days a week. Never had belly until now. I look at food and it seems I'm bigger the next day. 🥺 Depressed, high adrenaline which makes me jump. Anxiety, which I have NEVER had before. I eat about 2 pm and then am full and have no appetite until the next day. My specialist tried me on metformin to lose the fat. Made me sick. I fired her and stopped the metformin. I don't know what led me to this video but am so grateful I found it. I'm ready to start fresh. Please help with any guidance.
Thank you! I was retrenched last September and my stress levels are stratospheric. I have not changed my low carbohydrate way of eating but everything else has changed! Thank you, this makes sense
FYI - I subscribed to you over a year ago but today I noticed I was no longer subscribed to you, so I’m glad to say I can see you again. I had all the menopause symptoms, and was also hypo-thyroid. I went on bio-identical HRT, started intermittent fasting, which came easy to me, and started paying better attention to what I’m eating. I lost 70lbs and have been able to maintain it with a lighter version of intermittent fasting than when I was losing weight. My thyroid now looks normal on the blood work.
Thank you Dr Berg . I think this is one of the most informative video for menopause that I have had the opportunity of learning. I have not found this information anywhere else.A massive thanks for this 🙏🏽
Very good and important video! I've gained weight just because of work stress. And I've also noticed that fat from the stomach comes off when I get enough sleep. This cleared things up for me and I now understand the importance of the parasympathetic nervous system in weight loss.
I'm 43, can feel changes happening, I'm always active and my work is house cleaning, and gardennig, and my body says 'rest', but my kid and 12 animals need me alot!! So I've learnt to tell them (you can wait)😂😂❤😊😅
I started doing intermittent fasting and I feel better! I started doing HIIT exercises three times a week for 30-45 minutes and I’m starting to see a difference. High protein, low carb with intermittent a window of 8 hours eating is what is working. I had to stay taking melatonin because I have poor sleep hygiene.
Dr Berg Thank you for this information much appreciated for us women going through menopause. Can you do more videos on menopause and weight loss please. Also would love to hear your thoughts on the brain fog topic in menopause. Donna from Australia
Ok so here goes....turning 60 in Dec, I am 5 feet 5 inches tall and petite, weighing 120 lbs my entire adult life besides having my 4 kids. Never overweight and hit hard with menopause. I watched your video and I tend to do it all naturally! I looked at the supplements... I do not run or jog. I ride an indoor bike and walk. I do stretching but no hard on your body exercising and I get proper rest and really do recover as you say. I have a flat stomach and I am said to be very healthy....however here is my problem ....its sleep~~~ Why can't my body sleep on its own? As in, I can watch the sun rise unless I take something....now I would love to know how to fix that! I don't have issues otherwise!!! My hot flashes come up sometimes but not a problem. I get all the nutrition you state and have been doing that for years! I mean what else can I do?
That is exactly me. The only real menopausal symptom I have had is insomnia. And that has caused weight gain. It took quite a while of no sleep before my body started putting on weight. I’m sick of it! I feel that if I could get regular 8 hour nights, I would drop weight quickly.
@@mommabear5059 You likely wonder what I take to sleep well? Its an edible I make at home mild strength and legal in WA with cannabis. I dont take meds at all...I had to be convinced to try this! Yes it works but I would like to know how to sleep without it!
1:14 I suffered from a host of menopausal symptoms, signifying drop in estrogen, and yet developed melasma at the same time, which is what some women get during pregnancy (but I never did) due to high estrogen level! Estrogen deficiency AND estrogen dominance, what a bummer!!! I can never hope to find even one doctor who acknowledges this, let alone understands it. Why can't there be more Dr. Bergs in the world?!
I have the belly of an 8 month pregnancy....couldnt get rid of it...walk every day, eat pretty healthy. My legs killed me the last few months, high blood pressure, sugar going up...so many physical issues all of a sudden(never mind the hot flashes etc). Transition year into Menopause was killing me at 56. Made some life changes and seeing results
Up until menopause low fat diet is what we have been told for decades, and it works for many people, younger people, and younger women, but for us menopausal women, it’s the opposite now - keto or the easier version - low carb - is what shifts the weight. We often become insulin resistant at menopause, and muscles deplete and waste away if we don’t do weight training to keep them. Muscle is metabolic, that means it burns calories. When you eat keto/low carb, your body shifts over to burn fat for energy, as there are less carbs for it to burn through. Once your body gets through the carb energy first, it goes to its second energy source, fat. Then you lose fat weight, hurrah, that’s what we want 🎉
@@ninawildr4207 as an edit an update: carnivore is only good short term. Most people who benefit from carnivore (getting rid of the aches and pains) are really just detoxing their systems from oxalate overload. Ive started my journey realizing oxalates were causing my pains and issues. Started detoxing with carnivore but realized that in menopause I needed more vitamin C and B and potassium...I've settled into a routine and even have begun to lose some of the menopause weight as well as clearing the pain and dizziness...which mimics MS. Menopause is a hard road. Estrogen affects the elasticity of your entire circulatory muscle and tendon systems...
Are you using supplements for the vitamin deficiency or eating certain foods? I went carnivore and it hasn’t really helped - 90 days in. I’m 52 not sure if I’m peri or post (I have gone to a hormone dr who had me on estrodial, progesterone, DHEA, testosterone…the estrodial was the worst experience ever.). I’m at the point of what the heck do I do? Can’t sleep, body aches, zero emotional ability to connect. I feel blah all the time. I really want carnivore to work….i has great success on a Whole Foods plant based way of eating. I miss fruits & veggies, and was never really a meat eater. Any thoughts/suggestions are greatly appreciated 😊
@@nickiemartin5614 Carnivore is very extreme and keto is still quite hard to sustain for a long time, especially if you want to eat out or on the go. They’re both ok for a jump start but I do low carb which is much more manageable and sustainable for long term, and I stick to 90-100g carb a day. I never go over 100g. I still have a bit of bread and eat daily veg and fruit, berries like raspberries and blueberries are lowest carb, potatoes are quite high carb but as long as you count carbs you could have a small scoop of buttery mash or half a baked potato with cheese and chilli etc. I eat more greens. Carrots are high carb, so just a small portion. I count the carbs! So just count the carbs, having some is fine. Low carb doesn’t mean no carb. Getting your macros inline is a good idea. Your macros are made up of three food things, protein, carbs and fat. We want to eat low carb, as low fat doesn’t work for us menopausal women. It did when we were younger, but now our hormones are the opposite, so our diet has to change too! Look up free macro calculator online, that will help get your percentage right. Go to docs and get your HbA1c blood test done, the all rounder blood test for many things. Ask to print it out. You could be prediabetic or type 2 diabetic which comes along with menopause (it did for me) you could also have under-active thyroid. I take a multi vitamin and multi mineral and a few other supplements for joints like glucosamine, cherry, rosehip, curcumin, and I notice if I don’t get enough water, my joints ache more, so I try to drink more, I like mint tea hot or cold, a bit better than plain water. I also use Apple cider vinegar, that has many benefits, look it up, see if you want to try it.
This makes so much sense. I've had a lot of smotache issue throughout my life. Finding out that my parasympathetic system was so off due to past traumas. Now going into menopause I've gained weight and started intermittent fasting and slower work outs. Meditation after workouts because it felt good. But long behold there is a reason why!!❤❤❤❤
This was a very good video for me as I've struggled with a lot of adrenal fatigue many times especially after starting an exercise routine and pushing myself. Never understood why my body was overwhelmed and fatigued and my belly fat was still there even after pushing myself. Thank you for posting this very informative video. I definitely took notes on this one.
Thank you for this information. I went into early menopause due to partial hysterectomy in my 30s and it’s been an incredibly difficult journey with nothing moving the weight. I’ll try this.
I went carnivore the year before I went through menopause and I have to say it was so easy. Also no abdominal fat. All the women in my family have struggled for years when they went through menopause.

I have virtually no body fat. My doctor while doing his yearly exam commented that I am underweight and have 0 body fat. I have been sick for the last two years. I am struggling with gaining weight. I am the complete opposite. I also weight lift 3 days on 1 day off, I cycle, roller skate and hike daily. My health is my #1 priority! Being active is the key to my sanity!
I'm currently going through my second round of chemical-induced menopause and learnt there's no such thing as post-menopause or after-menopause. I'm in this stage for the remainder of my life and it's what I do and don't do that determines my quality of life, with or without HRT. I manage myself and my symptoms and am fitter + healthier than most women my age thankfully and am losing body weight and fat weekly. I'm working towards my new post-cancer optimal health and am doing so with my own education, research and training after losing respect and trust in most medical professionals. Ladies, no one knows our bodies better than we do so don't ever give up trying, I didn't and it's paying off in spades. 🙌🏻
This video is supporting what I believe more and more to be my visceral fat issues. I have ALWAYS had a flat stomach up until 2 years ago when stress levels skyrocketed whilst going through perimenopause (4 years and still counting 😠). Every day I wake up bloated, sometimes painful. And when my stress levels increase, so does my stomach. I could fast for days and it wouldn’t flatten out! It’s creating a lot of self conscious anxiety too which only makes it worse! I’m convinced my nervous system is disregulated and I need to start looking into where to start to get it back to “rest and digest”. This video is right on time!
57 post menopause , had no problem, keeping my weight off and maintaining I eat clean and a lot of protein do yoga and weightlifting. dedicated and disciplined is key! i’m at 24% body fat 🙌
Thanks Doc! I’ve felt largely left out of your discussions as the info sounded dismal “if you go into meno less than great health it’s nearly impossible to catch up…” so this feels more solution based and like there’s hope. Please keep the info coming for us- doctors don’t give us much info at our check ups and honestly don’t seem to know much about the complexity of this delicate time in our lives 😕🙏
I didnt get fat around the middle until I lost the progesterone & the estrogen. The day the egg basket shuts off you lose 100% of your progesterone and 80% of your estrogen. If your adrenal glands are still working you still have testosterone, that's why you grow facial hair, hairy arms, shriveled stuff, dry stuff. The Progesterone comes from the release of the egg. No eggs, no release. It happened in One Day! I had no sleep. Night Lakes soaking 2 King Size Pillows. My body went into fast motion and started killing me! Truth! Good Lord. I weighed 112 when it happened one day. I had tons of testosterone. People go to work. People just try to live, get sleep go back to work. Sleep all day? Ha. I froze 5 One Gallon Freezer Bags with half water & half ice and packed myself in them in bed each night...after 5 years of this. HRT I got figured out. My Mom took Estradiol shots every month from age 38 to her late 60s and only switched to Premarin because the doctors said the other was dangerous which is what the pharmeceutical companies want. In her 80's her testosterone had dropped so they put her on Estrotest. She lived to 96 on HRT. 38-96 on HRT. I couldnt keep up with her. This is Awful.
@adalineproulx9773 My Mom took it from age 38 to age 95! She did Great!!!! Not so good off of it. They took her off of it and she died. I inherited her biology!
Dr Berg I have constant joint pain and was diagnosed with fibromyalgia about 20 years ago. I had very heavy cycle my whole life and was constantly told since I was regular that nothing was wrong! I ended up having a hysterectomy, one ovary was left.. so many issues I have including tremors a constant feeling of jitters in my body. All of my blood test come back normal. I am 60 years old and I truly believe my body needs something… minerals vitamins etc, I am always active working full time and farming.. I do low carb.. modern Drs are very vague..
I was just worrying about this today and thinking about what I can do to help with my belly fat and fatigue. I’d started drinking lemon balm tea and it seemed to help. Thank you, Dr Berg, for giving me such a clear answer!
I’ve been getting on the treadmill and walking on a 7 incline at 2.1 mph slow but steady for 5 minutes then rest 15 and repeat until I hit 30 minutes total walk time and it’s really helped my stomach fat and my sleep.

My belly fat crept on me after menopause! I did the regular exercises and healthy normal diet (Mediterranean) but didn’t pay attention till I couldn’t fit into my clothes after a year! Eventually I realized I (physically) do longer periods of exercise! Even when I reduced my calorie intake to 1300 a day! After watching your videos I realized I needed more protein and a better way of exercising! My doctor also confirmed this! This was also important because losing the belly fat without proper guidance can also decrease your muscle tissue and BONE DENSITY! Thanks doctor Berg! 😊😊❤❤❤❤
Omg! NO ONE EVER has said whatvI just heard you say. "ITS NOT NORMAL TO HAVE HOTFLASHES".Thank you! I am 62, a young 62, and had 1 hot flash when I was 57. 1!!! Thank you! I had ZERO symptoms! Even now Zero! Still need to lose 25, but other than that, very healthy.
I’m in a fitness group and this is a very common problem!! I’m 45 and not perimenopause yet, but I’m going into it fit and strong. I have flat abs already, so I won’t have to go into this with excess weight. I know it’s hard so my belief is prevention! I am not saying it’s easy, but I believe everyone should have flat abs.
Started HRT 2 weeks ago. Life changing!!! Immediately started sleeping better. Anxiety is lessening. Feel feminine again. I’m 2 years post menopausal. Whole Foods plant based high fiber diet and cut out most dairy. Life is looking up!! Zero side effects btw
Hey. Can you tell me what HRT consist of? I just had blood work done and found out I’ve went through full blown menopause at a very young age and I’m so discouraged. I don’t feel like myself. I’m nervous about taking anything that can cause clots and things like that. What should I say to my doctor? I just want to feel like myself again.

Thank you so much for this video. I’m very exercise intolerant right now. So I’m encouraged to start an exercise routine and focus on the rest phase. I’ve been under tremendous stress over the last 3 years so I think I’m stuck in the fight or flight mode
I always wondered why I had no symptoms of menopause while many of my female contemporaries were constantly talking of hot flashes etc. This explains it very well....I have always eaten a low carb, high fat diet.
I'm 57 and in better shape than ever. I carb cycle. It's very easy and I exercise about 3 days a week but it's enjoyable exercise. Eating good food matters.
I love, love, love that you do not emphasize synthetic pill options. You also explain and show beautiful visuals so that thus crucial information is easier to understand. I was fortunate not to have to go through extreme menopause symptoms like some of my friends did. I never had hot flashes or horrible belly weight gain or mood swings. Nor did I take any hormonal supplements. I feel great. My health is good. I do intermittent fasting and eat high protein meals for the most part.
At 72, and long past menopause I weigh 112lbs. at 5’2”. No health problems or prescription meds. Take vitamins and supplements . Once a year visit to doctor. Eat clean and two meals daily. No alcohol. Strength and cardio classes 6 days weekly. Very fit, very strong. All bodily systems work great, including sexual functioning. Heart age is 39 after cardiac scan to check for any arterial plaque buildup. Zero plaque. Want to live long? Takes discipline and daily attention. I have bragging rights because I am in a very small minority of women my age who are in the physical condition and health status that I enjoy.
A lot of people do this and it doesn’t work for everybody everyone’s health and DNA is different. I used to talk like that in my 50s until I hit 61 and got my first biopsy etc. that is just luck but I am fortunate to look like I’m in my 30s so go figure.
It takes a lifestyle change like this to work. Many don't want to do this and look for an easy fix like the new pharma drug which just makes them sick.
HIIT is really good, true. Just one thing concerning “jogging“ => most people exercise on a pulse that is too high because their oxygen-threshold is so low. My pulse threshold for 5 min sustained running is at 170-175. If I exercise at around 125-135 pulse that feels relaxing to me. If I go for a 10 km run and aim at 150-160 continuous pulse that wrecks my sleep because my heart feels jumpy. So, the distance to the sustained pulse rate is important in strengthening the parasympathetic nervous system. Feeling relaxed while exercising moderately over an hour or two can be beneficial, too!
This sounds similar to zone 2 workouts. I need to get a watch that measures my heart rate when I do this exercise. I really enjoy it but it’s hard to go so slow and it will be easier to stay in the right range if I’m actually measuring the heart rate! I strictly breath through my nose which helps to keep me slower!
Me too. No other symptoms aside from a little brain fog and occasional warm flushes (not hot). Periods just stopped 3 years ago (I'm 52). I am relieved!
I believe you I think they believe it because they're told to believe it and they've forgotten that they had all these issues before the menopause and it's a convenience excuse for not putting in work to lose weight. I know lots of actually old ladies that are slim as rakes, go hiking, walking their dog, to the shops etc.
I’ve just started strength training 3 times a week and one class of yoga, I’ve exercised for many years,I’m just starting to see results, I’m 65years old and went through my menopause over 10 years ago. I’m sleeping better, and feel the need to rest! Listen to your body. I’ll take all the things said on board but for the moment I’m enjoying getting fitter and stronger. 💪🏼❤( I’ll definitely rest in between sets and look to see how that works) Thanks 🙏🏼

Red clover has worked for me with menopausal symptoms . I take tincture. I didn’t want to take HRT. But so much is going around about menopause which I believe is to do with selling new HRT drugs. The medical industrial complex is treating a natural and normal female developmental process as if it is abnormal and something to resist, it is as normal as puberty, and a necessary part of life .
I never had one hot flash, or major menopause symptom, except not sleeping well, and I did gain weight. ( I was chubby, now I have to lose 50 pounds!) I am STILL having trouble losing! I eat very healthy, and am healthy otherwise. Thank you for this video!

I love dr. Berg’s approach to menopause❤. Instead of seeing it as a deficiency disease which must be cured with taking hormones, (which is what my doctors did), he explains the system of menopause very well and how to deal with it. I have been struggling with menopausal symptoms for the last five years and changing to Keto diet as well as working on relaxation has made a big difference. Thank you dr. Berg for your videos.
When I was 50 years old, I was diagnosed with breast cancer Lobular carcinoma stage 3. First chemotherapy treatment stopped my menses. This is the first time I've ever heard about the parasympathetic and allowing it to rest. Interesting as I seemed to go into menopause and progressive MS around the same year. I don't take any of the DMT's but saw an integrative MD/naturopath years ago instead. My menopause symptoms were very slight though. Intermittent fasting and eating fewer carbs serves me well.
I'm having the same symptoms! Multiple sclerosis like symptoms. Although I do not have multiple sclerosis. What I have found that really really helps me, I no longer drink just water. I put a pinch of sea salt every time! I make sure that I have enough salt during the day as well. I've upped my intake of natural vitamin C mostly through oranges and tangerines but also through acerola, cherry and rose hips. HIIT 🙂

My menopause started at 51.5 was completely done with symptoms in less than 6 months, why, Anna's wild yam cream...I used for 9 months...completely done with everything by 53.. buy online it will change your life
I am 57 and this year I decided to cut out most sugar and reduce carbs. I do exercise. My belly is slowly firming up. Hang in there!!!
Berg!
Try fasting
@@nataliaprieto6723 I’ve been doing it for the past 2 weeks and so far so good. Takes awhile to shock the body but it’s working.

Dr. Berg what really helps me is intermittent fasting. I’ve lost 40 lbs and I’m 62 years old.
I have Lupus and Antiphosphoid lipid syndrome ( blood disorder)
I had blood clots.
My fracture was do to
osteoporosis.
I am truly sorry you (and I through the decades, myself too) went through the hell of a horrible, neglectful healthcare system :(
Vit D without K2 is BAD. Must take K2, or you will end up with osteoporosis and atherosclerosis
lack of K2 is the issues, not low Calcium
K2 and blood thinners don't go together. I have the same DX: Systemic Lupus and Hughes Disease. I have been eating low carb, and no carbs plus fasting and I can't get rid of the last of my belly fat. After menopause it will go away with my eating plan, but until then 😅
Thanks for the wisdom🎉
Dr Berg, I'm 53 and have my 32 year old body back, thanks to you!
What did you do, please share.

Thx Dr Berg
Dr. Berg is the best!
Same! This video is short, simple and easy to digest.
You’ve just explained all my problems!!!!
Soooo many drs. MANY questions. NO answers!
I do understand, now!!
Thank you for posting your story, you are awesome and inspiring, and I'm so glad you are healed and healthy now! Hugs!
Thank you so much for sharing this here
Thank you so much!!! What’s your nutrition plan, pls??
YumYum Yum!

But anyway, I've watched so many Dr Berg videos, he explains everything so well.

I’ve been researching menopause for years now and this is by far one of the best menopause videos I’ve seen. Thank you VERY much
March 2020 it was discovered that I had a small tumor on my adrenal gland. 🥺
Depressed, high adrenaline which makes me jump.
Increase in belly size may indicate ovarian cancer and fluid retention in velly. Be sure this isnt the case.

Do carnivore and itll go away❤

Hrt is not meant to be taken long term only during the transition.
@adalineproulx9773
My Mom took it from age 38 to age 95! She did Great!!!! Not so good off of it. They took her off of it and she died. I inherited her biology!
I went into menopause at 59 yo and since then i wondered why i never had any of the menopause symptoms. Now, i know. Thank you.
You're welcome. Thanks for watching the video.
Glad to help!

I’ve been getting on the treadmill and walking on a 7 incline at 2.1 mph slow but steady for 5 minutes then rest 15 and repeat until I hit 30 minutes total walk time and it’s really helped my stomach fat and my sleep.
I am in perimenopause at 51 years old nearly 52 with regular monthly periods still. Valuable info for me for the next phase when it happens for me.
Watch Kari Anne...she talks about the symptoms and has a group support...
Lord, I pray I'm not cycling at 51............ 😮😮😮😮..
@@flamingpieherman9822 yes I love her videos and content too. Kari is funny and the humour she brings too. I am preparing myself but it's just not fair as my younger friends all have changes to their periods.
@@BouncySlim1 can you imagine how I am feeling like when does it happen for me. My younger friends in their late 30's and mid 40's are all tracking their periods. Just not fair.
@@Manisha-K-Patel. I feel your pain, Manisha. I'm mid 40s. My neighbor went into menopause 4 years ago and she's my age. Because I have issues with anemia, I'm hoping menopause would help level me out a bit. (Still regular also.....but I don't know if I wanna do this for 5+ more years!!!)
@@AlwayysBeKind well sad to say I’m off the hrt now. It was short lived. I ballooned about 30 days in. Gained 20 lbs. And started to feel really strange. I was taking oral progesterone and an estradiol patch.
I gave it 90 days. I wanted to jump out of my skin.
I’m back to walking 30 minutes a day and that seems to be helping me feel better now.
Hrt was a quite the rollercoaster.
@@cassandrapno Wow. Really? So it made you sleep better, and feel feminine again, and then it made you feel bad? I’ve never heard of that before.
@@AlwayysBeKind yup. I was still sleeping better and felt feminine. But i bloated so bad then had a rush of weight. That made it unbearable and i had to stop.
@@cassandrapno I’m sorry to hear that. Hopefully they can figure out something else for you. Maybe Bioidentical hormone options, or a low dose of birth control pills. Menopause is just horrible. We’ll get through this though.
Wow ❤ admire you 😊
A lot of people do this and it doesn’t work for everybody everyone’s health and DNA is different. I used to talk like that in my 50s until I hit 61 and got my first biopsy etc. that is just luck but I am fortunate to look like I’m in my 30s so go figure.
Quit bragging old lady!
A lot of that is from genetics and past life experiences…..some of us worked in hard labor situations and our bodies were hurt.
I had absolutely no symptoms at all. Just one day my periods stopped and it’s great ! Feel the same as I did before just no period.
Mine was very similar. No symptoms. Period stopped for 9 months, then started back. Been postmenopausal for years now. Just extra weight 😊
Me too. No other symptoms aside from a little brain fog and occasional warm flushes (not hot). Periods just stopped 3 years ago (I'm 52). I am relieved!
Well I have 25 symptoms and have suffered since 2020. So you’re very lucky.
I believe you I think they believe it because they're told to believe it and they've forgotten that they had all these issues before the menopause and it's a convenience excuse for not putting in work to lose weight. I know lots of actually old ladies that are slim as rakes, go hiking, walking their dog, to the shops etc.
@@evelyntaylor4470The weight is not related.
I’ve just started strength training 3 times a week and one class of yoga, I’ve exercised for many years,I’m just starting to see results, I’m 65years old and went through my menopause over 10 years ago.
But we are becoming menopausal much too early.
What brand. Of Red Clover do you take?
I never had one hot flash, or major menopause symptom, except not sleeping well, and I did gain weight. ( I was chubby, now I have to lose 50 pounds!) I am STILL having trouble losing! I eat very healthy, and am healthy otherwise. Thank you for this video!
I'm 54, been going through menopause for 10 years. My hot flashes are more intense. How do we get our adrenal glands? Sonogram? I exercise frequently, eat right. I do have the menopause belly. Thank you doc. Enjoy your day 🌻🌻🌻🌻

All the gifts we don’t want! 🌧️ I’m adding weird hair growth to that now, it’s been straight all my life, now it’s growing in like a badly kept afro, knots and clumps and matted bits. I’ve cut it all off to a pixie cut now.
I’ve been through the menopause and have lost my belly fat. I cut out all sugar including the ones going under different names hidden in processed foods. Which means cutting out processed foods entirely. I’m now slimmer than I was post menopause

I'm 56,i hit pre menopause, and rapid progressive multiple sclerosis at the same time. Can't believe even walking impossible and my belly just gets bigger😂 since June and now waiting treatment🤷♀️ thank you, interesting♥️
It has been a godsend to me....I also added bananas only in the morning (yes I know it's not keto friendly) You may want to try that. It calmed my symptoms alot...

Dr Berg, as always your health presentations are great! However need to ask the question, if the adrenals take over when women go into menopause then why do many suffer from menopause? I’ve made many attempts to get off hrt (on a low dosage) however my hormones did not regulate.
Thank you for the upload, I needed this info, I watch so many experts but you are the one that not only gives clear succinct info, but also good clear rationale that makes the advice actionable for me. And you're right your content no longer shows up as itt used to.
I don’t have belly fat I never did and I went through menopause when I was very young. Actually, I started in my middle 40s. But I have no belly fat no hot flashes no nothing I’m 73 years old never took birth control pills in my life, I do everything, natural and healthy, and I said no problem at all with weight. Through my whole life I’ve never been overweight basically been the same size since I’m 16 years old. I guess I’m just lucky but I do follow a healthy diet. I ferment probiotics set up with the bread and the list goes on. But I enjoy watching you. You’re very very intelligent and you do a lot of research and I appreciate you.
Moss important? Remove all stress.
During the first lockdown my husband who is a very difficult man, got stuck in South Africa while I was in the UK. Within a couple of days my stress was gone. I slept well, relaxed into my home space and without changing much else, the belly fat started to disappear.
On his return after three months, within two days, all my feelings of stress and anxiety along with other creeping symptoms returned along with the weight I had lost.😡
Stop that marriage. That is what I did. All me stress is gone. I lost 190 pounds 30 pounds in weight and 160 pounds of him.Thank you God
So interesting. For me, low carb high protein, lift heavy weights 3x a week 30 minutes) lots of walking, bioidentical HRT, no alcohol. I have no belly fat but it took me years to get all of this information and finding a good doctor is almost impossible.
All the women in my family had absolutely ZERO symptoms of menopause…their periods just stopped from one day to the next and that’s it ,no flashes, mood swings etc.etc.
Hope I too will go that route when it’s my turn…
That's great. Thanks for sharing here about your family. Take care.
Same thing with me absolutely no symptoms at all other than my period stopping. I feel the same as before menopause. It’s great !
were all the women in your family slightly or more over weight? Heavy women don't suffer as much...even 5-10 pounds makes a difference. I am very thin and even if my body is making hormones from other glands, I have no body fat to store it, so I get symptoms
This is some good information. I am now starting to understand why I am having a hard time losing weight.
This makes so much sense, Dr. Berg. Thank you!
