This version of Dollmaker is an amalgamation of two versions of Dollmaker in the comics those being Barton Mathis and Anton Schott. Barton Mathis is a twisted serial-killer who operates out of Gotham City with his "family". He is the third incarnation of the "Dollmaker". Anton Schott as the Dollmaker II. son of Winslow Percival Schott, a.k.a. the Toyman, and was born on Christmas Day. His father saw little interest in his son, whom he considered uninteresting, despite Anton showing great promises as a skilled toymaker. He created Robotic Dolls. He also has a bit of Professor Pyg energy. With Turing people into Doll based soldiers. Dollmaker also appears in Gotham as Francis Dulmacher, a.k.a. The Dollmaker, is a major antagonist in Season 1 of Gotham. He is a wealthy, respected doctor who runs a private hospital on his island and engages in mass abduction, organ harvesting, and human experimentation.
I love Damien in these movies! I remember not liking him as much in Injustice 2, but then I saw these movies. Excited for you guys to get to the Teen Titans one!!
It makes me so happy that you loved this as much you did! I REALLY wanna see you guys react to the other DC animated movies! So many of them surpass live action superhero content by a mile!
This whole movie was essentially about parental relationships. Even from the beginning the Dollmaker is the way he is because of the abuse he endured from his father, and his actions are heroic in his mind because he wants to prevent other kids from going through what he did so he turns them into weapons so they can protect themselves. We see Bruce’s relationship with his parents and his relationship with their death. Bruce talks about the difference between Dick and Damien because Dick grew up with loving parents who allowed him to be a kid and Damien was trained as a weapon from birth, and was not able to be a kid. We got Talon and his relationship with his sudo partner. The head of the court of owls continued her parents dream. And at the center of it all we have Damien and his parental relationships with Bruce and Talon
Bruce had an insane older brother; Thomas Wayne Jr. He’s been written in and out of continuity a few times. More recently, he’s potentially brought back as one of the Talons. In an alternate timeline, Bruce died with his parents while Thomas survived and became a villain called Owlman.
I heard that Dick Grayson was supposed to become a Talon after his parents died, but it ruined their plans for that when Batman adopted him and made him Robin.
While I understand that due to this being new 52 they had to give more screentime to Damian, Dick always had a greater underlying role in the Court of Owls storyline
19:42 there is one theory, that the Waynes were actually a part of the court of owls, but they decided to leave for whatever reason and that’s why they were killed.
What Alfred did also helped build sum trust between them two. Like Robin now knows he’s got his back n only wants wats best for him even if they doesn’t always agree
I love Batman's character arc in this movie. He learns to not just be a "father" but to be a "dad." He learns "ok, I am allowed to in fact be protective of me kid, and kick someone's ass over it."
12:55 Well the series Gotham features young Bruce pretty heavily, there are still 10 years he spends travelling the world and training, but we do see the first steps of his journey.
You guys would probably like the tv series Gotham, it’s 5 seasons and starts with the night Bruce’s parents died. It’s basically an origin story for Bruce’s rise to Batman and also focuses a lot on Commissioner Jim Gordon and a lot of the Batman villains.
12:45. That's the show Gotham for you. It deals with a young bruce trying to process his parent's murder and laying the foundations for him becoming batman. I think it's got batman's full rogues gallery, his allies etc. I liked that show. And the potrayals. You guys should give it a try.
I forgot this movie had the Court of Owls in it. What a welcome surprise, though, since they are some of my favorite villains. I love how Talon and Batman have kind of the opposite worldview, and how this reflects Damian's struggle between what the League of Assassins told him and what Batman is trying to teach him. Batman is Justice, not Vengeance, while Talon is Vengeance, not Justice.
If you really want early Gotham stories. You should check the tv show “Gotham” or “Batman the animated series” they are both great. A bit slow, but show cases the awesome characters you might not have heard of. Also awesome voices of Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill. 😊
Batman " hold up, are you telling me you can't die?" Zombie Owl " Yes, you fool, no matter what you do to us-" Batman " just shut up, are you telling me, the man who knows every way to unalive a person and has had to repress that instinct for decades can now go all out?" Zombie Owl " I immediately Regret what I said!" Batman " ALFRED, PLAY MY JAM!" ( * Screams if agony ensue while a remix of spooky skeletons plays*)
They really disrespect Dick when it comes to Damian, especially outside the comics. Dick is the closest Robin to Batman and the only one who has the potential to be as good of a fighter, in fact Dick recently got the better of Bruce in a bout. But here he is getting beat because he's "the blood son," when the whole point is that hard work is what pays off. Also, legendary Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy cameos as Thomas Wayne in this movie.
The one thing I'll say, and I will say it's limited due to not having seen every single DCAMU film, is that it feels more like Dick always stuck in Spider-Man "holding back" mode especially for spars vs a kid like Damien. He's still incredibly gifted as a fighter but does not have that killer in him (like Damien) or pure martial mastery (like Bruce) to really ride that line of violence of going near 100 without lethal force. I mean, even Damien, in this same movie, got the better of Bruce 1 on 1. I wish Dick got the flowers he deserves as Bruce's first son, but it feels, at least in this movie, more like just a continuation of the filmmakers wanking Damien in general to get him over. Even if, all out, Bruce and Dick wash him imo. Edit: Hell, to add to the "gotta make Damien look strong" agenda, not only does he "beat" Dick and Bruce, but he beats the "final boss" in both this movie and Son of Batman, Talon and Slade, even when Bruce lost to Talon (Dick too, but dude was already impaled across every limb so not a fair fight).
this storyline is so perfect to incorporate into The Batman 2 . the first one was already like The Long Halloween and Hush but Batman v Robin with the Doll Maker and the Court of Owls would be so perfect since the first movie already set up the Waynes as being corrupt and Batman is out of his Vengeance era.
I would've preferred if they included a bit of the storyline where the Talons were all Graysons. Dick's grandfather was the last Grayson Talon and his patents wanted out, facilitating their murder in that telling. Dick was later approached to be Talon, and the best of them all
If you want more of young Bruce after his parents death and slowly becoming Batman, definitely watch Gotham, the Fox show. One of things I love about it so much is just seeing Bruce as he evolves in the immediate aftermath of becoming an orphan.
Unpopular opinion: I feel like this is common for most Court of Owls adaptations, even some stories from the comics, but I feel like they were utilized poorly in this movie. The original is a far more personal story for Bruce and much more of a detective story. The idea of turning fear around on the Batman and the symbolism of owls being the natural predators of bats aren't really explored here. (Spoilers for the comic) They didn't use some of the best scenes from the og story like Bruce's first Talon encounter ending in falling from Wayne Tower, the mystery of Bruce's great grandfather, child Bruce almost dying in search of owls, the delirium in the maze, Bruce beating a superhuman healing Talon so badly the Owls just dispose of him, Bruce discovering the Talon hideouts and hitting a tripwire, etc. I guess they chose Damian as the universe's protagonist so wanted to make the stories more relevant to him, as Damian was only in like a single panel in the original story. But the DCAMU was meant to be a New 52 adaptation, not a Damian Wayne story. Dick plays a bigger role in Scott Snyder's original comic, from Batman alienating all of his allies to defeat the Court, and from the fact Dick was going to be a Talon if Bruce hadn't gotten to him first. Dick was sidelined needlessly, but they made sure to do him dirty again just to make Damian look better. They turned the Court story into a father/son allegory that it was never meant to be, turned the Talon into just a Slade-lite grooming figure to Robin, and because of those changes it just felt like the Court were throwaway antagonists, only there as excuses to have fight scenes but inconsequential to the characters.

Thank you all for a fun watch! This series of DC films is fun with some good action, though I found the first story arc (Flashpoint to Apokolips War) very uneven in quality. The characters often felt simplified in order to further the goals the film makers had for a particular scene, and under characterized if the viewer hadn’t read comics or seen them in other films. Scenes often felt flat because they were only serving one function in the story, and the stories could feel rushed due to a lot being introduced and the stakes getting very high in one film, but then things mostly resolving in that same film without a lot carrying over to the following films. This film is easily my favorite out of the Batman/Robin trilogy. I liked Damian much more after it, the Court of Owls provided great challenges for him and Bruce, though it does feel a bit rushed that the organization is introduced and ended in this film. I’m interested to see the reaction to Batman: Bad Blood after this.
Even rewatching and liking Damian as a charcter, I can't get over him being this OP. DCAMU made Dick so Dirty, always Hurting him bad to take him out or made Damian look good, indirectly Insulting his character through other characters more than once. And Also taking his connection to the court of owls away, just doing a basic aah reference. And glossing over the fact Dick and Damian relationship is actually so cute and Dick is the brother Damian likes the most 😭 In the Court of Owls comics, Bruce discovers The Talon was actually Dick's great-great-gradfather and that, without the manager knowing, the Circus he grew up in, was meant to work as a training field for future Talons or something like that, finding out that if Bruce hadn't taken Dick under his wing the court would have come for him and made him one of them. PLUS the fact the writters confirmed the Talon and Court of Owls plotline was originally meant for Dick Grayson's Batman, not Bruce, but had to readapted it when New-52 happened. Making me doubled annoyed with this movie, daring to have Nightwing in it but not showing his connection to the court at all beside Talon saying "You've made a Great Talon" 🤓
I like how biased Bats was against Damian that he immediately accused him of murder without checking . Just one glance later told him it wasn't true. We know the boy's nature and past but he's clearly trying and it's your son bruce.

For me, this movie was the first misstep of the movie series. Court of Owls is so good, and Greg Cappullo's art would lend itself to animation so well. And then they Frankensteined the story with other Batman stories that were happening around the start of the New 52. ANd they stuck with their new in-house style.

If you guys want an Owlman, I suggest watching Crisis on Two Earths :)
It's not a part of the DCAMU but it's such a great movie.
Fun Fact it has been now 21 Years since Teen Titans came out in 2003!
Every time I watch the scene with Nightwing and Robin sparring, I flash back to INJUSTICE when Damien kills Dick...
9:54 fun fact: the voice of Thomas Wayne is Kevin Conroy. OG Best Animated Batman voice. RIP.
Oh man these guys didn't know Alfred is the most deadly member of the family. He's always ready to come out blasting.
The Dollmaker is voiced by
Weird Al if you can believe it
Seriously? man that man has range like a Baseball Pitcher.
7:03 Dirty Mind Boom!

28:17 Goodbye Samantha!

31:45 Get him Bruce!
32:57 OMG! 😲
33:17 aw!
Batfamily at 99% of their power: Alfred with a shotgun
17:35 Dick gave Damian a look that I can imagine him saying, “You little sh*t.”
If you want Early Batman I recommend you watch: Batman Year One (Bruce's first year in Gotham), The Batman 2022, and Gotham (A show that features Bruce as a child.
I can't find it, but there is supposedly a short film where Damien and Dick Grayson take down Scarecrow together (Batman had to abandon Scarecrow to deal with the Atlantis issue)
There is actually this show called Gotham where you get to see a young Bruce slowly become Batman over the seasons
"I was the first I have seen everything"-Witherd Chica
I sometimes forget Alfred is a former MI6
In reality, at that point in the story, Damian was not older than 11 years old.
"Do you think he wears the mask while doing it?" Check New 52, it was either Batman or Catwoman...it'll answer that question
To be honest, these movies did a way better work with Damian than the comics at that same time.
15:38 I think maybe it says something uncomplimentary about me when my first reaction was: "What? Applesauce is *good*"
I really enjoy watching you watch these movies. Ive watched these movies and have no one else to talk to about it. Its really cool.
I love Batman's character arc in this movie. He learns to not just be a "father" but to be a "dad." He learns "ok, I am allowed to in fact be protective of me kid, and kick someone's ass over it."
If you guys want early bruce Wayne stories then the "Gotham" series would be perfect.
12:55 Well the series Gotham features young Bruce pretty heavily, there are still 10 years he spends travelling the world and training, but we do see the first steps of his journey.
This movie borrows from 3 different story arcs. This era of animated universe was very good at creating original stories based on lore.
i'm living for all of these DC uploads!!!
You guys would probably like the tv series Gotham, it’s 5 seasons and starts with the night Bruce’s parents died. It’s basically an origin story for Bruce’s rise to Batman and also focuses a lot on Commissioner Jim Gordon and a lot of the Batman villains.
Instead of Batman creating his villains, it’s the villains that create Batman.
Batman " hold up, are you telling me you can't die?"
Zombie Owl " Yes, you fool, no matter what you do to us-"
Batman " just shut up, are you telling me, the man who knows every way to unalive a person and has had to repress that instinct for decades can now go all out?"
Zombie Owl " I immediately Regret what I said!"
Batman " ALFRED, PLAY MY JAM!"
( * Screams if agony ensue while a remix of spooky skeletons plays*)
this universe is so fucking good, it's insane
Yup, the Batman movies are insane!
Alfred with the Shotgun is so iconic :)
I wonder how the Ninja Turtles would fare against The Court of Owls.
I’m pretty sure they lose depending on the version
@@Kingcrimson_1456 The original comic versions would be interesting they had no issue killing
It was always weird to Me that they put Dick Grayson in a Movie about the Court of Owls, but don't even mention His Relationship to them.
If you want to see some more early batman content, you should check out the Gotham tv show, it has its goofy moments, but its pretty good overall
When they said "eat the rich", look to what Talon is doing to the members of the Court.
There is a video I would like you guys to watch about Batman. It's called Batman's extended origin by the imaginary Axis. He goes into deep on how Batman was trained, It is really interesting
I'd absolutely love seeing a Young Justice reaction now that you're doing DC! Probably the best DC animated show aside from Teen Titans.
They're already reacting to it on Patreon.
@@katchkartoons Oh shit really? That's hyyype

"Calm down, Drake." Completely caught me off guard, lol
There is a comic run where Damian is in the Teen Titans. It's definetly interesting XD
Tony Stark: "I'm proud of you, Bruce."
TTG vs TT, Teen Titans: The Judas Contract, Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay , Batman: Hush, Batman: The Long Halloween 1 & 2, Justice League: Warworld , Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths 1, 2, 3
7:07 Lol, nice
Even rewatching and liking Damian as a charcter, I can't get over him being this OP.
DCAMU made Dick so Dirty, always Hurting him bad to take him out or made Damian look good, indirectly Insulting his character through other characters more than once. And Also taking his connection to the court of owls away, just doing a basic aah reference. And glossing over the fact Dick and Damian relationship is actually so cute and Dick is the brother Damian likes the most 😭
In the Court of Owls comics, Bruce discovers The Talon was actually Dick's great-great-gradfather and that, without the manager knowing, the Circus he grew up in, was meant to work as a training field for future Talons or something like that, finding out that if Bruce hadn't taken Dick under his wing the court would have come for him and made him one of them.
Hey guys you said about owlman.
There is an actual DC animation filim with owlman , its called Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths. Check out that filim its very good. And also it is a kind of sequel to justice league doom.
For me, this movie was the first misstep of the movie series. Court of Owls is so good, and Greg Cappullo's art would lend itself to animation so well. And then they Frankensteined the story with other Batman stories that were happening around the start of the New 52. ANd they stuck with their new in-house style.
12:12 owls are the natural predator of the Bat
always love seeing your guys love some more DC stuff :)
