My favorite part of that comic is how Wolverine explains it to Peter at the end. "Everyone else treats me like a monster, they would've let me kill that whole bar back there. But not you. That's why I wanted you to be here"
I never understood the idea of Logan being 5’3” where every time I see him in the comics he’s standing at least 5’9” which is similar to his ultimate counterpart.

Claremont wanted him to be his dad originally lol. Wich would have been more messed up, considering that is implied that Creed raped Silver Fox (Logan's wife back then) before killing her.
I love how despite the fact that they hate each other and that Sabertooth probably killed over 80% of Wolverine's girlfriends and loved ones, they still banter like buds sometimes before they beat the shit out of eachother. Like when sabertooth walked in the bar and they both just had a genuine conversation before Sabertooth went out of his way to trigger Logan, or when they were in the bathroom next to each other and wolverine was like "we should start a club" I don't know whether i should find that funny, messed up, or both. But its definitely entertaining and an interesting way to portray two enemies that have done unspeakable things to each other.
Yea I like it I just don’t like wolverine killing the kids and saber tooth planning to find him for each birthday. I don’t mind them crossing paths and him always torturing him then but imagining sabertooth planning and schedule for Logan’s birthday is weird.
It makes sense. If you kept having fights with the same dude for decades on some weird fucked up level you end having this twisted friendship. Logan and Sabertooth can sit down and have a beer and watch a movie before ending the night with a brutal fist fight.
Sabretooth is a very accurate depiction of a psychopath. He doesnt feel pity, remorse, hate, love, or comradere. He let his siblings live because they served his emotional desires. Saul in particular was left alive for Creed to torture every year on his birthday. When saul died, he just replaced him with wolverine. He doesnt really hate wolverine, there's nothing personal when victor carried out their sick tradition. He just enjoys seeing logan suffer.
So THAT'S how Logan had his birthday with Spider-Man! I was wondering why Sabretooth wasn't even mentioned in that issue until you said he was out of the picture. ...It's VERY sad that a birthday that wasn't at all happy was the best birthday Logan had in over a century.
honestly the Spider-man Logan bar comic is fucking great just for the last few pages with Spidey congratulating Logan on being the person Spidey knew he was and Logan responding your the only one who thinks that and thanking him for it
I like that Spider-Man is one of the few people in all of Marvel that Logan legitimately likes and considers a friend. When even Wolverine is friendly to you, you know you’re a good guy.
I came to a sudden realization a few years back that Sabretooth was quietly one of the most tragic characters in Marvel because in just about any instance where he was a bonafide good guy, he was caring, jovial, and often a parental figure for a younger teammate. Somewhere deeeep inside him is the capacity for being a good person, but it is so warped and twisted by his hideous psyche that it's only a cruel reminder of what could have been.
my brother in christ he does those things out of his own free will, he plans them in advance and looks forward to them, it's not a tragedy of what could have been type of character, he's a cunt from the bottom of his heart
I wouldnt call him tragic. Dude is a murderer and torturer. Even the most vile people have soft spots or their moments. Just because you visit and donate the local children's hospital or rescue puppies it doesnt make you any less than an evil murderer.
A lot of people say that Sabretooth is a one note character with not much to him. I do agree with this to an extent, but I think it also massively undercuts how effective he is as a villain. This guy actively goes out of his way to torture Wolverine for hundreds of years, with each time getting more and more twisted, just because it’s fun to him. Imo he’s a good example of a villain being evil for evil’s sake and how they can be done right.
0:13 lol that short pops in my head every time I hear the name reverse flash. "remember when you came when that women touched you Barry? THAT WAS ME BARRY!!"
The reason the rivalry works is because both have straight up feral and animalstic behavior the difference is that Sabretooth fully embraces while Logan tries to keep it in check but Sabretooth doesn't really like that. He wants him to cut loose and become a "beast" like him
That was the motivation I'd heard before, that Sabretooth thinks Wolverine should be like him. He knows Logan can be a brutal killer and feels that is their true nature, with all the civilized heroic "crap" being an act or self-deception.
Wolverine #10 is the first time this tradition is set up and explained… It counteracts the argument that uncanny X-men 213 is the first meeting between the two.. issue 10 shows that Sabretooth has been messing with Wolvie for a long time before that
Hmm, it's so weird, according to this story, Wolverine often loses a 1 vs 1 fight against Sabretooth, but aren't there also many situations where Wolverine clearly outmatches him? I'm a bit confused because most of the time Sabretooth serves either as a jobber or a danger to society. lol (Very good video btw!)
I got the impression that when it REALLY matters and lives are on the line, Wolverine can take Sabretooth. But during these moments Logan's too wrapped up in rage and guilt to fight intelligently. The people are already dead and the fight's lost before it began.
Wolverine can beat Sabertooth, but only when he's truly desperate and cut loose like an animal. I think Sabertooth enjoys every second of it. Seeing Wolverine fight like him.
I feel like he loses those fights cause people he loves are already killed, and the fight itself would not bring them back. He might even want to have his shit beaten out of him cause he feels guilt for their death, wants to forget and run away from it
He needs to just suck it up and hang out with someone like Doctor Strange on his birthday. That way if Sabertooth tries to start shit he's just gonna be sent to the Mansion of Endless Nightmares in the Fifteenth Layer of Actual Biblical Hell or whatever wacky bullshit Strange has access to.
It’s shame this rivalry isn’t done justice in the movies, I like that saber tooth doesn’t want revenge or is jealous he just likes hurting ppl and Logan is the perfect vessel since he can’t die
I’ve only ever heard that Wolverine is 5’ 3” and weighs in excess of 300 lbs because of his adamantium coating… Here’s this guy saying he weighs 2,400 lbs… Any motorcycle he’s ever been shown on would break, lol
12:27 I love it How can people fuck up height comparisons so often? The scale starts at 4'4 and the are not standing upright. It looks like sabertooth is DOUBLE the height of Logan (the video is still well done thats just something that flashbanged me)
It's probably because that background scale is designed to make average people look like manlets when compared to people 6'1" or above. It's meant to make the average person feel insecure about themself.
@@ForeverLaxx More like that background scale is supposed to start at someones upper body and not include the whole body, people only USE it to show the whole body as a joke to make short people look shorter.
@@Mulletman_ComicsListen I can understand well I don't like comics for personal reasons I never did like how the heroes and villains act except If this saber tooth kills cause of this mutant discrimination thing was their any real discrimination cause all I remember is mutants killing human humans killing mutants their was no end or lesson and if so that this sabertooth was doing all this just for that reason what's this 7:54 im pretty sure this silver fox was mutant and didn't side with humans so what was this about this is why I don't like comics it's not the reading it's the drama
The motorcycle thing is super funny cause Deadpool does the exact same thing to him after that. He ties a thin piano cord to 2 trees and sabertooths head almost flies off, he then straps him to a car and threatens to kill him with mist if he doesn’t comply
Now I get why Wolverine picked spiderman to hangout with on his birthday, spiderman and Wolverine have a similar Batman to Superman dynamic And if Logan were to attack he would’ve been the best back up to have
I would have to say Sabretooth is definitely jealous of Logan. He sees Logan's willingness to become a balanced normal individual as weak, he sees his happiness as an affront to his own existence. He is essentially meek in The Planet Hulk Series and Reverse Flash's love child. Logan is a RIVAL and seeing your rival become happy despite being just like you is a defeat, whether he likes it or not. He sees these weaknesses as a threat to his mental fortitude and he tries to prove it to Logan and himself by making him break from these traumas. I think the dynamic I would compare it to is a classic school bully, most bullies target people that are happy or content despite there situation, whether they are weaker or not does come into account but that's also part of the dynamic, having someone who is weaker than you who is happy and content despite their disadvantage is a loss for the bully because they are most likely in a similar disadvantage in terms of weakness, whether from parental abuse or another bully entirely, they will use this advantage against the bullied as a reclamation of their strength and proof of the validity of their mentality by belittling the other thus propping themselves up. I think the perfect example of this dynamic within Sabretooth and Logan's rivalry is definitely the memory wipes that Sabretooth uses on Wolverine, he knows Logan would adapt to this abuse, Sabretooth did, he knows trauma is a weapon and knows that Logan would adapt mentally. He doesn't want Logan to be like him he wants Logan to stay just the way he is. Not too hot not too cold, JUUUUUUUST RIGHT....
Great video and i truly loved it, but just a few things that might be wrong. You showed both Sabertooth Origins and Origins 2 where people debate which one is actually real because in 1, he killed Saul himself and in 2, Saul was still alive and i think the majority prefers to stick with Origins 1 version because in the other Comics, Sabertooth does show he has more depth to him than just being a sadist, which is he actually, truly loves his mother. Now admittedly, she’s scared to death from her own son, but he is (was rather) regularly visiting his mother when he’s not out being a monstrous murderer. And it’s a bit weird he would want to kill his own Brother and is rude to his sister, but loves his Mother so much when it was only his Dad who abused him. But on another note, in the story of Romulus (the „race“ Sabertooth and Wolverine belong to) Sabertooth shares that he actually cares a lot about Logan and the reason he torments him that much is because he wants him to become as feral like Victor himself. Victor *loves* pleasing his primal pleasure of killing and murder and when he sees Logan repress those feral instincts because of „loved ones“, then that actually pissed him off. So he tries to pull that monster out of Logan so that he would finally have an equal with which he can share all that bloodshed. So yes, you are right that Victor sees Logan as some replacement brother and that’s why he does whatever he can every year to try and pull that monster into the light. That’s why he and Logan were actually best friends during their Weapon X days, both Agents just going around killing things and he couldn’t be happier about it.
Creed is jealous of Logan. Because Logan isn't a wild animal that is incapable of love or being loved. Because people CHOOSE to be around him, even fight by his side or for him. Nobody chooses to be around Sabretooth because they like him. Creed has lived hundreds of years and every single one of them he was seen as a wild dangerous animal. Meanwhile, In spite of all of the violence Wolverine has been a part of in his life, in spite of all of the horrible things he's done, there are still so many people who trust, love, respect and admire him. That's why Creed likes to kill those people. No matter how much bigger, stronger or more dangerous he is than Logan, he will always be jealous of Logan's ability to be seen and treated like a human.
This makes me appreciate that they really made an attempt to go this direction in Wolverine Origins. It was maybe one of the few things that worked. Liev Schreiber had the character down and maybe Taylor Mane had the look. So I hope they find a good mix when we see him next. I hope they go hard if they use him again too. He honestly should’ve been the surprise villain in Logan instead of doing the clone thing.
Not having Sabretooth in Logan movie was such a wasted opportunity. Also, when I made a comment similar to yours, having Liev's character but Tyler's looks for the perfect Sabretooth, another commenter suggested Psycho Sid Vicious in his prime, so like 30 years ago.
Imagine being in love with someone so much you hunt them down on their birthday and make sure you're the only one they think about. He puts in a lot of effort instead of asking Logan to love him, it'd be much easier.
I love that the one person in the whole world he did spend his birthday with was spiderman. Not only was he a good friend but he knew spidy could hold back his drunken rage if need be.
Sabertooth if he was Reverse Flash levels of hate: “Remember when you lost all of your friends and I spelt Happy Birthday in their limbs?” “IT WAS ME LOGAN! I DID IT TO JUST SCREW WITH YOU!”
Probably the closest there is to a more lighthearted take on this sadistic practice was when Kitty, in her first year with X-Men, insisted on taking Logan (with Mariko) out for this birthday and they go to a ninja-themed restaurant where the staff all dress like ninja. Sabretooth shows up disguised as a gigantic ninja waiter and as usual, thrashes Logan. Kitty saves him by blowing up the kitchen they're in, Sabretooth thinking she's bluffing at first because he doesn't know about her phasing power.
So I just have to say this. Sabretooth isn't just a sadist and that isn't necessarily an accurate description of a what a sadist will do just something a sadist might do. Sabretooth is a sadist and some degree of a sociopath or psychopath. It's unclear whether he can actually form real bonds with other people but I would tend to believe he can't and that he likely sees people as objects that exist for his pleasure. It needs to be said that there are people who are sadists and people who are psychopaths/sociopaths who are fully functioning members of society that don't hurt people. There are quite a few sadists that recognize that they are a sadist and that indulging it in such a way that hurts others is both destructive and immoral. And they seek to exist lawfully without harming others and/or try to find healthy ways to manage their sadism . And both psychopaths and sociopaths are fully capable of being fully functioning members of society in fact they tend to be very driven and potentially very successful at their chosen occupations. It is the unique combination of psychopathy/sociopathy, sadism, his upbringing, him being given immense power, his indulgence of his desires over several centuries, and his ethics/morals or more accurately his lack of them/the active disdain he feels for the very concept of them that creates a Sabretooth. It's a very unique concoction of what creates what most of us would traditionally call an evil person combined with the unique factors of his X-Gene and his abilities as a result. He has many of the features of a classic psychopathic serial killer including the ability to be charming and even charismatic when he wants to be. Sabretooth is conceptually exactly what he is. What you would get if a psychopathic serial killer was potentially immortal and able to live for several centuries.
You have no clue how long ive been waiting for you to cover this, and I MISSED IT. This is probably one of the oldest bits of lore I knew about since i was a kid.
This video made me give Sabertooth his flowers in terms of strength cuz I always think of the Fox X Men films when I think of him but damn I never knew he was that sadistic
When I was very young, I've read through some random x-men comic that have Wolverine dueling with Sabertooth. When Sabertooth gloated they are evenly matched and he could regrow anything Wolverine's claws can cut off, Wolverine retort with try regrowing this as he just cut Sabertooth's head clean off. It was a very fast duel. Anyone know where was this from?
Even at the time when Wolverine managed to beat up Sabertooth by sticking his claws through his brain he didn't win because Sabertooth just pretended his brain had been damaged and the Xmen believed him so he had a free card to stay at the Xmen's headquarters and piss off Wolverine whenever he liked.
I think Sabretooth is just lonely in his own twisted way, he just bullies/fucks with Wolverine for his own entertainment. It's like taking a toy from your younger brother to piss him off.
I always thought that wolverine at least sometimes won. I'm experiencing major cognitive dissonance at the fact that wolverine never has beat sabertooth in a 1v1
A similar concept is thanos and that one guy he tormented on each of said guy's birthday, To sum it up, Thanos practically erased his future, Ruined his life forever
Nah, this is too direct. Reverse Flash isn't out to make one day in Barry's life a living hell. He wants to make every single day in Barry's life slightly worse than it already was.
Growing up and watching the 90s animated X-Men when Sabertooth showed up in front of Wolverine they didn't last much before clawing each other and Omega Red also was an awesome villain that Logan usually had to focus, that guy was a nightmare.

I love how despite the fact that they hate each other and that Sabertooth probably killed over 80% of Wolverine's girlfriends and loved ones, they still banter like buds sometimes before they beat the shit out of eachother. Like when sabertooth walked in the bar and they both just had a genuine conversation before Sabertooth went out of his way to trigger Logan, or when they were in the bathroom next to each other and wolverine was like "we should start a club"
I don't know whether i should find that funny, messed up, or both.
I dont sabertooth hates wolverine. I dont think hes even capable of truly loving or hating someone.
I thought it was Sabertooth that usually does the beating.
At the end of the day they both are all they have.
I read this comic and remember spending ten minutes just looking at the happy birthday sign trying to find out what were the arms legs and head

Early Generation X?
I wouldnt call him tragic. Dude is a murderer and torturer. Even the most vile people have soft spots or their moments. Just because you visit and donate the local children's hospital or rescue puppies it doesnt make you any less than an evil murderer.
I don't like when they try to make him good it doesn't fit him AT ALL

Thank you for exposing me to that abomination 30 seconds in, didn't need sleep anyway.
I guess if you find torture fun? But to me it's just kinda boring and childish

I'm a bit confused because most of the time Sabretooth serves either as a jobber or a danger to society. lol
(Very good video btw!)
I got the impression that when it REALLY matters and lives are on the line, Wolverine can take Sabretooth. But during these moments Logan's too wrapped up in rage and guilt to fight intelligently. The people are already dead and the fight's lost before it began.
@@Kagrynac Oh that's a very good point! If you have already lost the psychological war, you will also lose the physical one.

The motorcycle thing is super funny cause Deadpool does the exact same thing to him after that. He ties a thin piano cord to 2 trees and sabertooths head almost flies off, he then straps him to a car and threatens to kill him with mist if he doesn’t comply
Now I get why Wolverine picked spiderman to hangout with on his birthday, spiderman and Wolverine have a similar Batman to Superman dynamic
And if Logan were to attack he would’ve been the best back up to have
I hope that in the Marvel's Wolverine game, there's a "Happy Birthday" Level or Trophy
Oh no.
I hope we can absolutely tear sabretooth to shreds
Logan absolutely does not weight 2,400lbs 😂 his skeleton was said to add 100lbs of weight so he’s anywhere between 290-300lbs
I wonder if sabertooth inspired thanos to do the same thing to some random guy on his birthday.
When you’re in an Olympic-level hater competition and your opponent is Sabertooth

They did such a good job on making him seem like wolverine's older brother that before this video i though that they were for sure related
I could have sworn in the X-men animated series they were in fact brothers
x-men origins: wolverine
Exactly
Ah, now it makes sense. Now I see why the character is compelling
13:58 the funny thing is that the video I got recommended after the video ended was “spider-man kills everyone” 💀💀💀
Sabretooth and Bullseye are probably my two favorite underrated villains, both for pretty similar reasons

To get a sponsership by the one thing that powers your channel is when u hit peak
He should invite spider-man to more birthdays, Sabertooth wouldn’t be such a threat
What about thanos? He also has a b-day tradition where he tortures a random guy on his b-day in the most petty of ways.
