Mysterio's the ultimate villain in my eyes - intelligent to the point of genre-savvy control, capable of great works and minor pettiness, rightly proud of his achievements yet too ambitious for his own good. He stands above obvious (in form and function) villains like Joker, Loki, Ras, Magneto, Ozymandias, and Kingpin. "People sometimes let the stories they tell themselves get in the way of the stories they could live" is the difference between him and them: a lot of the time, big-time villains can't breathe outside their narratives, Mysterio explicitly weaves in and out of his own tropes.
Well said. A lot of what makes Mysterio so good is how underplayed he is. He also has a campy sort of realism to him. He's just a very smart guy with Wizard of Oz antics tricky enough to bamboozle even the sharpest minds. No powers, yet the power of an omega level mutant.
Mysterio is one of my favorite Spidey villains ever. When I was interested in becoming a filmmaker in high school, Beck's gimmick of illusions captivated me. Sadly, in the comics, Mysterio is a villain that doesn't have a lot of prominent stories, outside Guardian Devil, Spider-Men, and parts of Nick Spencer's run. One of the reasons I love Far From Home so much is because of how much justice they did Mysterio in the MCU. I know there are people who don't like that he was a Stark Industries employee, but the dude developed BARF, holograms, which still fits in line with Mysterio's gimmick of illusions. That movie took various Mysterio stories, whether it'd be visually or scheme-wise (for example, the Molten Man fight has the circus from ASM 66-67, while Beck's scheme of manipulating Peter into feeling less assured of himself was partially inspired by ASM 311), and morphed into a microchasm of what Mysterio generally is, and they succeeded in that regard. They even nailed the costume, with the only difference is that he has a gold armor plate. Mysterio's theme in FFH is also one of my favorite songs in a comic book movie ever; it just perfectly fits the character and is one of my favorite songs that Giacchino composed for the Home trilogy. Praise thy fishbowl, I say!
I think that those sorta villains that can play with your mind are the scariest ones for sure. Mysterio reminds me of this one villain in Transformers with the ability to manipulate memories, which he uses to torture other Transformers before making them forget how to transform, leading to them trying to transform, only to turn themselves inside out. Spoopy
But Mysterio's headpiece isn't a fishbowl! It's a spherical one way mirror meant to mimic the likeness of a...fun house... fuggit... Praise thy fishbowl...
I think the reason people hate Mysterio being a stark employee is that it makes him less personal to Peter Tom Holland’s Spiderman villains are not his own, as in, he didn’t do anything to these villains but someone else did and Peter just got in the way Vulture and Mysterio exist because of Tony and NWH is just villains who belong to other characters (except Green Goblin cus hes the goat) Im just hoping that in the next Spiderman movies, these villains are his own and not because of the actions of another
Mysterio has to be one of the examples of how modern day comics tend to make silly, goofy looking villains into more dark and terrifying villains. I gave my respect to the Fish Bowl Man in Old Man Logan and Far From Home. Jake Gyllenhaal nailed his role.
More like a classic villain’s horror being realised like what Shin Godzilla is to Godzilla 1954/First Generation. Someone savvy what could be done with his skills and make use of them.
Mysterio can do SO MUCH with his illusions. His fights with Peter in Far from Home are a perfect example of this. Dude pulls the wool over Peter’s eyes so hard and gets the last laugh in the end. And his boss fight in Spiderman 2 is so beautifully trippy
I was thrilled when he got his MCU appearance. I really felt like they did him justice with his illusions and mind games. It was a clever portrayal of the character even if the origin was significantly changed. And I LOVED that they didnt get rid of the fishbowl helmet.
While a cool feat for him, in-universe it was one of the dumbest plot points. There is no way Logan could kill all the X-men on his own. Period. Mysterio making illusions so convincing that Logan would both lose his mercy and not be able to see through it was cool, but the result was just stupid.
I was one second away to say "If people think Mysterio is not lethal, watch the Old Man Logan comics. Just understand what he did and how it all went to major ish because of him". I loved Jake Gyllenhaal as Mysterio and the character in the Spider-Man movie was really, really cool. There comes this guy who can make illusions and heroes are kinda confused because they are used to fight beings who are enhanced, mutated or even have a supernatural origin and there comes this guy who effs with ur mind through illusions. I believe they were/are so used to fighting all these beings that a dude with illusions just surprises them with "simplicity" and not with powers like having an infinity stone, super fast healing, unlimited strength etc. He's cool in my books and I wish for Jake to return to that role in some shape or form. It was great honestly.
He will return. Mysterio has been confirmed to be alive after NWH. After the second spell, Spider-Man, not Peter Parker is an accomplice to the murder of Mysterio. Remember he said, they'll see what I want them to see. They think he's dead, but he's out there hiding.
Mysterio and Scarecrow are pretty similar when it comes to when they’re written well, they can be severe mental obstacle for any hero, and even if they don’t win they still leave lasting effects on their victims, which is why they are good characters.
I have always thought the same thing after Old Man Logan! Why isn't Mysterio a more heavily utilized villain? 'The master of illusions' is such a cool concept.
We never realize just how dangerous Mysterious actually is because he’s constantly bested by Spider-Man, one of the only people who can actually see through his tricks
Daredevil has a good rogues gallery but then again he shares half of it with 4 other heroes. Marvel rogues are weird because they are mostly in one location which means they can fight 1 of 300 heroes
Superman has an amazing rogues gallery as well, i mean, Metallo, Brainiac, Parasite, Darkseid, lex luthor, toyman and much more that i cant remember right now, honestly all the popular dc comic heroes have great rogues galleries, same thing with marvel for the most part atleast except a select few who have relatively weak rogues gallery considering how popular the hero is (like captain america honestly, not a very strong rogues gallery imo that is particularly memorable)
Mysterio is an extremely well written villain. Keeping the theme of his ego being both the reason of becoming a villain and also losing is great. I think his changing things up because he feels like he's in a rut is a great nod towards his theatrical background. He's an on theme character. He reminds me of Batman minus the plot armor. He doesn't have any superpowers, he just relies on his cunning and wit to defeat these people who are leagues more powerful than him, and manages to win.
This man really went from "I just thought I could kill them on" to "you really thought you could kill them all?" Really fucking fast. Webspinners tales of Spider-Man 1-3 really cemented mysterio as one of my favourite villains and I wish he got more love. I’m glad he was able to be the villain of a major movie even if he was a bit disappointing at times. But that scene where he’s just really hitting Spider-Man with all his illusions until he gets hit by the train, gorgeous, everything I wanted
Imo i still think Guardian Devil is Mysterio's best comic. He shows how evil, psychopathic and dangerous he really is. The fact Daredevil had to get dr strange to confirm it wasnt real demonic presences is terrifying. And Mysterio using a baby as the victim is just bottom of the barrel evil. And its all cause Mysterio got bored of fighting Ben Reilly. I henu genuinely think Mysterio is up there with Joker, Green Goblin and Carnage as the most insane villains in comics. The guy is an irredeemable monster
Mysterio was always one of my favorite Spiderman villains growing up. Even in just the cartoons, he always had something cool going for him. In Spiderman TAS they gave him an actually impactful character death and it was the same episode where Spiderman gave us that blood-curdling, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" that's been memed to death (justifiably so)
But even in the MCU. Even though the spell occurred with strange. He left a huge impact on Spider-Man‘s life. He’s the reason why everything occurred. And he was no joke to begin with before his death.
Pretty sure after something like Old Man Logan, they realized that now Mysterio is kind of OP. like, they need to NOT use him or people will expect something of the same calibur, which they can't do in the day to day of marvel comics.
So mysterio has the ability to make such a life like alien invasion and almost kills almost every hero, and then next day just goes “imma rob a convenience store…”
I can’t read any mysterio dialogues without hearing the jj solid voice for him. Especially in his reintroduction after secret wars, “IT IS I, MYSTERIO”
Bruh I really thought Mysterio's assault on Daredevil would fail. Like Kingpin forgot to mention he's blind or something and after he overly prepared Daredevil would beat him instantly and be like: Mysterio: How? How did you see through my illusions? Daredevil: see through? Buddy I'm blind Mysterio: ... ... ...
One of your favorite Spidey villains is... The Chamelleon... Really... That's like looking over all the ice cream flavors out there and picking scooped up fridge frost.
I love Mysterio so much as a kid when I had the DVD copy of Spider-Man, and went to the special features. I saw 3-D models of Spider-Man’s foes from the past, and one of them stuck with me for the longest time just because of how unique and interesting and that was mysterio
I know Mysterio's shenanigans in OML is widely accepted as just fucking stupid and absolutely contrived to the point of it just being an outright impossibility down to the conceptual level, and I agree 100%, but I can't say it didn't feel good to see my man get a massive W. Still stupid though, don't get me wrong.
Thank you for saying villain. Nowadays people tend to use "rouges" and that just sounds so basic. Villains is more vintage and makes them sound more threatening.

mysterio just took never let them know your next move to another level, glad they didnt add any of that stuff from those comics you mentioned into far from home otherwise there would be a lot of petrified kids in the cinema
I love how JJ hates spidey so damn much that he didn't even suspect some corny funny looking man appearing outta nowhere when spidey started doing crimes saying "bro, Imma sack this spider dude and I can literally transform into him lmao" first thing first
Mysterio’ one of my favorites in Spider-Man’s rouge’s gallery, he has such a cool design I and love how he can be over-the-top extravagant and genuinely menacing with his mind games
In my opinion Mysterio is probably the most iconic spiderman villain. Heck i knew he was a marvel villain long before a spiderman one. Which is ironic because i have never read or seen anything involving him as growing up. His design is so cool and i always wondered just what kind of cool powers he had. Now i know and im not disappointed c: Mysterio is easily still my favorite marvel villain.
I don't get why anyone would underestimate this guy. Lying and deceiving effectively is one of the strongest powers anyone can have. With how powerful his illusions are, he's basically a shapeshifter, with the ability to shapeshift others too. You'll never feel safe talking or interacting with any person or object. You don't know who or what it is. Trust is shattered with everyone as soon as he enters the area.
I’d noticed how many of these stories feature Mysterio getting bored. Among other reasons, of course, I wonder if there’s a story with Mysterio being an anti-hero
I mean the fact that in a world where magic and superpowers are normal and he still remains relevant using smoke and mirrors really speaks to his ability as a villain
It really shows his real power, aside from manipulation and tricks, is his mind.

But the psychics would read his mind and see that they were just illusions
@@DrFuntimes well based on how it works most of the time in cinema I'd imagine theyd have to actuslly see him first to be able to read his mind or atleast know the target of whos mind they are reading. He could do the illusion he did on wolverine and theyd have no idea its actually mysterio.
@@mainaccount0007 or just have a custom made helmet that blocks mind reading and the like
@@frog1405 oh lol is that what his space bubble does
@@mainaccount0007 idk but thats what the Juggernaut's helmet does. I'm sure he could make one if he wanted to
I kind of forgot Spider-Man far from home does the evil all along trope
Mysterio killed almost all X-men and he didn't even walk into the building
I henu
genuinely think Mysterio is up there with Joker, Green Goblin and Carnage as the most insane villains in comics. The guy is an irredeemable monster
Mysterio in movie: 😡🤬😡😤😡😠🤬😵😵
Mysterio in comics: 🍷🗿
Mysterio was always one of my favorite Spiderman villains growing up. Even in just the cartoons, he always had something cool going for him. In Spiderman TAS they gave him an actually impactful character death and it was the same episode where Spiderman gave us that blood-curdling, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" that's been memed to death (justifiably so)
But even in the MCU. Even though the spell occurred with strange. He left a huge impact on Spider-Man‘s life. He’s the reason why everything occurred. And he was no joke to begin with before his death.
Mysterio is PEAK spider-man villain! PEAK!
We need more stories and development of Mysterio
I’ve always thought that Mysterio was a really underrated villain, and I loved him in Spider-Man Far From Home
I was aware of all these stories and even i was like- huh? Mysterio?
I have not read the Ditko run in forever
“You sly dog! You got me monologuing!”
0:06 you had to choose that image of Otto
Pretty sure after something like Old Man Logan, they realized that now Mysterio is kind of OP. like, they need to NOT use him or people will expect something of the same calibur, which they can't do in the day to day of marvel comics.
Mysterio is a badass! Keep it up! New subscriber here! ❤
So mysterio has the ability to make such a life like alien invasion and almost kills almost every hero, and then next day just goes “imma rob a convenience store…”
Okay, Mysterio Is Super Dangerous. Because of Him, Wolverine Killed All The X-Men!
Illusions are an underrated powerset. If you are good enough at them, as far as the target is concerned, you might as well be a reality warper.
The sunglasses give you kind of a Matt Murdock vibe. It's a good look, man!🕶️
I can’t read any mysterio dialogues without hearing the jj solid voice for him. Especially in his reintroduction after secret wars, “IT IS I, MYSTERIO”
I always hear him with the voice from the ps1 game
Ultimate gaslighter
Literally my favourite marvel character
Mysterio had always been one of my favorite villains ever since I saw him in that episode of Spider-Man and his amazing friends with the hulk
imagine youre entire life was a illusion and mysterio just pops up
I remeber he had Comic Cosmic powers.
You know. I think even batman would struggle against Mysterio
He's pretty much a magic upgraded version of scarecrow. Definitely a harder time
@@mvshenhon8966 basically yeah
I love my boy Mysterio.
He should get a solo film tbh.
Sony will probably doing it
Bruh I really thought Mysterio's assault on Daredevil would fail. Like Kingpin forgot to mention he's blind or something and after he overly prepared Daredevil would beat him instantly and be like:
Mysterio: How? How did you see through my illusions?
Daredevil: see through? Buddy I'm blind
Mysterio: ... ... ...
I love spider man's villains but mysterio is one of best
One of your favorite Spidey villains is... The Chamelleon... Really... That's like looking over all the ice cream flavors out there and picking scooped up fridge frost.
I love Mysterio so much as a kid when I had the DVD copy of Spider-Man, and went to the special features. I saw 3-D models of Spider-Man’s foes from the past, and one of them stuck with me for the longest time just because of how unique and interesting and that was mysterio
What makes mysterio so amazing is how in the comics they manage to mix him being hysterical and also insanely tragic
love the longer videos, a banger as always 💯
I know Mysterio's shenanigans in OML is widely accepted as just fucking stupid and absolutely contrived to the point of it just being an outright impossibility down to the conceptual level, and I agree 100%, but I can't say it didn't feel good to see my man get a massive W. Still stupid though, don't get me wrong.
Thank you for saying villain. Nowadays people tend to use "rouges" and that just sounds so basic. Villains is more vintage and makes them sound more threatening.
I'd love to see Mysterio is the animated Spider-Man movies
I loved him in Spider-Man: FFH
Some underrated Marvel villains I believe deserve videos like this:
Dormmamu
Taskmaster
Bullseye
Spot
Chameleon
Scorpion
Kraven The Hunter
Carnage
Mr. Sinister
Mephisto
The Hood
Super Skull
Mojo
Purple Man
High Evolutionary
Plethora of Spidey Villains also
Don't forget hydro man.
Mysterio is if Doctor Strange's magic worked on the most vulnerable. Mind fuckery and dangerous.
mysterio in the old man logan universe was a monster.
"Now, Mysterio is on the spectrum"
Shoulda just ended the video there.
_Old Man Logan_ is when Mysterio truly earned my respect.
You’re telling me Mysterio was the one willing to pay Kingpin a million dollars? Not the other way around.
I really don't like when Mysterio can make anyone hallucinate anything. I prefer the more simple smoke and mirrors approach.
“Coming Beck”…I see what you did there, and I hate it.
Fuuuuck now i can spew this to everyone as evidence for why Mysterio is so fucking cool.
Heya, MM. This was as entertaining and interesting as always. But at 9:21 I laughed my ass off!! Well done. Did not see that coming.
👑 🏆 🏅🙏
WOO HOO MULLET MAN UPLOADED, ITS ALWAYS A GOOD DAY WHEN THE MAN UPLOADS
Mysterio is my favourite marvel villain ever he’s so good the first comic I ever got had mysterio in it the first spider man movie I saw in theatres was far from home and he’s just overall a really cool villain like have you seen the side quest in spider man 2 and the scenes in far from home so good
I 100% disbelieve that Mysterio could have affected the way people smelled when Wolverine killed them. No way. No fucking way.
The moment I saw the title of the video I knew you'd mention Old Man Logan. That's one of the stories that really show how terrifying Mysterio can be.
Mysterio always been my favorite vilain and I agree with you that his pure evil genius is under appreciated
A Mysterio and Scarecrow team up would be cool. Really enjoyed your video. ✌
mysterio just took never let them know your next move to another level,
glad they didnt add any of that stuff from those comics you mentioned into far from home otherwise there would be a lot of petrified kids in the cinema
I love how JJ hates spidey so damn much that he didn't even suspect some corny funny looking man appearing outta nowhere when spidey started doing crimes saying "bro, Imma sack this spider dude and I can literally transform into him lmao" first thing first
Can do a video on the most version of wonder woman in comic history
Mysterio’ one of my favorites in Spider-Man’s rouge’s gallery, he has such a cool design I and love how he can be over-the-top extravagant and genuinely menacing with his mind games
Honey, wake up, Mullet uploaded today!
Mysterio pulled up and was like it's a prank Logan, the camera is over there, only to then noticed the camera wasn't recording.
He’s my favorite villain
Webspinners 1-3, best Mysterio comic of all time
I’d noticed how many of these stories feature Mysterio getting bored. Among other reasons, of course, I wonder if there’s a story with Mysterio being an anti-hero
I was not expecting Mysterios origin to involve him giving Spidey THOSE HANDS, goddamn
Mind boggling AND mind rattling
