Great Hank Hill impression! 🤣 The thing about all that gear is, once you buy it, it's yours, you can keep using it again and again, I've been using my tent and sleeping bag for literally a decade. And mine's the cheap Wal-Mart brand.

I rarely find camping gear at my local thrift stores, but it's always worth looking, but Walmart is my main camping supply store along with Target, Biglots, Ollie's, and the rare occasion Tractor Supply has a sale on something I need.

Yep, Walmart is my main camping supply place, but Target, Big Lots, and Ollie's are also good places to get cheaper camping gear as well if you watch for sales.

The only thing really worthwhile to buy at full outdoors store price is a tent. Mine is a Eureka dome tent that my dad bought 30 years ago. Keeps us dry when it rains. Cheap tents fail. I suppose he did that part right with the crazy roof thing. A basic dome tent and a dining fly would take up less room in the vehicle and do the same thing for him, but he thinks being up a bit will keep him from bears and insects. Hoovie, bears can climb a ladder or just walk up your vehicle.
Aside from a tent, unless you're looking to do some extreme weather type stuff, you're more than fine shopping Walmart or (better) Craigslist and thrift stores.

That was sweet having your daughter on your video. I love going camping and I wish I could afford that roof top tent. I currently have a 21 foot bumper pull camper with AC and a shower and toilet. It's wonderful but I do love that roof tent for when I go deep off road. I enjoyed your video thank you for showing off your toys.

If he put the advertising at the end of the video people just wouldn't watch it at all. Putting it first guarantees that at least someone will watch it, and those who don't will go to the comment section looking for that brave advertising watcher who posted the precise moment where the actual video begins. Which gives that person the chance to be a hero for one day. :D

i was replying to marlan da silva, if you're in mud andyou get a flat tyre theres not much you can do really. If you jack it the jack will simply sink. I understand your idea as the underside of the car would be very dirty.

@Game Bred Duramax the average income is about $2 per thousand views so this video made roughly $500. Not even enough to cover the tent let alone all the supplies to go with it.

No REI is Gucci for camping gear. Bought a $250 pair of boots there, but that's about the ONLY THING that is worth paying a premium for at that store IMO, and only if you are going to hike A LOT.
Aaron Bays there are very few boots at any outdoor store that are worth more than $50. If you can't replace the sole when it separates or rebuild the boot, it's not worth buying. In the past 10 years, I've spent $400 on boots and have had the same pair. $200 new, $100 in replacement soles (3-5 years between) and recently rebuilt them for $100. Most people will spend at least $750 in that time on several pairs of disposable boots.
Yeah I shop at Wal-Mart big lots and Academy sports. They all are dirt cheap. I especially like Academy sports and outdoors. They are like the Wal-Mart of camping gear.
REI and Massey's are the Gucci of camping gear. Massey's has $800 hiking boots. And $200 12x12 tarps

When I go camping I rent a beautiful, usually luxury, SUV or even a Honda Odyssey Touring and I sleep in that. I'll hook up my iPad in the back and watch netflix and fall asleep like I do at home but with cooled seats/ warmed seats, ac/heating and it only costs me about $100 a day, with my only other option being a tent I'm happy to spend the money.
By far, one of your best pieces! Absolute classic, honest comment at the end!

Camping is so much fun. We used to go every spring . And,( Ellie) is so sweet and cute, put her in more videos. Get her some sunglasses and take her on a roadtrip...Disney! But I dont think the Mrs. Hoovie will like it. So try Glamping: pack her some caviar, a couple of bottles of wine, Vietnamese pepper whole fish, spiced tofu, shrimp and whole veggie skewers.

not saying high quality. good enough to go camping every once in a while. dont need to spend 200 on a sleeping bag when a $50-70 one works fine.

If he was, he'd have ONE basic car that's good enough to drive🤣😂 Cheap sleeping bags work but they aren't nearly as comfortable, they don't breath, they don't pack well etc. I have a $150 sleeping bag. That's actually pretty cheap in the world of good, sleeping bags.
he only get 3 items and complained about the price and nothing extra. he seems to invest more in cars than camping gear. I'm living solely off my KLR, driving cross country. i know camping isn't expensive when you are smart about it.

I personally would not want a Roof top tent, and if I did not already have my RV, i'd seriously get a pull behind motorized tent/camper with a hard top that has a small AC for going places where you have power.

Your naturally funny and honest. Your daughter stole the show. You shopped at one of the more expensive sporting goods stores in the US. Yes, camping is expensive. Campsites are not cheap. I don't see the appeal either. I grew up in the woods, loved it. But also had a house with water and electricity. And camping is alot of work. I can't wait for your trip to Colorado.
