    Parts falling off a Land Rover is a design feature. It is there so you can find your way back by following the trail from the middle of nowhere to civilisation.

      I sold my hooptie fleet and bought the cheapest cruise ship in the country, the SS United States. She's floating on the river in Philadelphia, so now I just have to figure out how to get her delivered here to Wichita and have the Wizard take a look.

    Land cruiser is the best combination of comfort and reliability. . . Better than land rover, jeep, or any other SUV anything more comfortable is wayyyy less reliable (land rover) and its pretty good looking, compared to some other SUVs. . .

    Also, airing your tires down really helps the truck climb up that loose gnar stuff. But i'm stoked to see you using your 100 as it was intended

    I was off-roading my 2005 Toyota Land Cruiser practically all day long a few days ago. It has 262,000 miles on it and it’s completely stock. It’s got the optional chrome rims, still has the running boards on it and it stills has amazing clearance. All day long, this thing gave me no problems. I was only in 2 wheel drive for most of the time, even I’m really steep trails. I only put it in low gear when I was going down those really steep trails.

  • @AK-Brian
    @AK-Brian 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    A few supertips: If you are at a stop, in neutral and your low range won't engage, let off the brake for a second and let the car move a few inches. It's usually because the points of the gear teeth are touching and it won't let them move into place with the lever.
    For water crossings of any depth, if you don't know what's under the water, slow down. It may only be a few inches deep, but there may be a log, rock or pothole which could catch you out and bump the steering wheel, damage a tire or wheel, or in the case of a log, get lodged in the drivetrain. I've seen people put holes in their floorboards because they took a crossing too fast and whipped a tree limb up into the cab. Don't be that guy!
    With the rooftop tent, rather than pushing it open as you did in the video, remove the cover, reach up to the base of the ladder, extend it out a foot or two. Holding the bottom rung, simply walk backwards and use the ladder as a lever until it folds open. This puts less stress on the hinges (the tent doesn't fall open), doesn't require shot-putting the whole tent from the bottom, and eliminates the possibility of the ladder swinging back into the vehicle. To fold it back in, just do the reverse. Retract the ladder up to mostly closed, lift up against the tent and let it fold up and forward as you walk towards the vehicle. Also, nearly all RTTs have enough space on the inside to pack some blankets/bedding on the inside. Bring a full size pillow or add a second layer of memory foam and I think you'll have a much better night. :)

    1- put The gear on the natural.

    *other ways you will break it !

      It was no tough track that’s for sure. I’ve got a friend who has one of these and shit always needs doing. Last was the abs module because it was leaking. It always stinks of gas fumes, air con is intermittent, AC compressor has been replaced twice, it has rod knock, goes through cv joints, has terrible range/economy among other things. It’s comfortable but could do with a locker in the rear, gets stuck often on the axle twisters. It sounds good and has decent power but they aren’t as good as what many make out. The older landcruiser and hilux were more reliable, mainly because they had no power to break shit and they had very few complexities.

      I endedup buying it, the guy bought from original owner and put 30k miles on it. Only thing is it came from PA area. Skid plates are missing prob from rust. I have over 8k in bills from fixing the air suspension including new lines and shocks, new brakes/rotors and brake lines. New fuel tank/pump. He wanted 6k I got it for 4k. Hoovie would you be proud?
      Also it has 220k on it. The manifold has a small oil leak, the namacuchi stereo cranks and the seat heaters and leather are heaven. Sell it or ride till the end?

    The low range gear stick do stick if you don't use them for a couple of years.
    It has a rubber boot under it, it that splits or gets damaged they can rust the mechanism.
    If you have a LandCruiiser, select low range every 3 or 4 months just to stop it sticking.

    @itsalgud1459 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Glad you made it up, and apparently, back. Your Land Cruiser is, indeed a great off-road vehicle. But you need to take it somewhere really challenging, meaning, off road. I live in Colorado, and have done some really rough off roading, a lot rougher than that. Get some experience, and you’ll be amazed where you can go!

  • @dobypilgrim6160
    @dobypilgrim6160 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Umm, the Land Cruiser is indeed a great SUV. However an old Ford truck probably made it up that trail to deliver the building supplies for the cabin. Not to mention the trucks used to build the weather station. And a garbage truck likely comes a couple of times a week to empty that dumpster. Not exactly adventure camping eh? If you're worried about bears don't camp next to a dumpster. If you want a nice camping experience, don't camp in a campground that even has one. No wonder you don't like camping.

    You have it so lucky out where you are in terms of finding relatively rust free cars. I have an '05 Land Cruiser with 265,000 miles on it (same color, actually), and while it has never had a serious problem or left me stranded, or had any kind of engine or transmission problems, the New England rust is beginning to take it's toll on the body and suspension components. It's going to be a very sad day when we sell this beast soon. :(

    • @dannykelly3617
      @dannykelly3617 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As long as the rust hasn’t taken over the underneath of the truck u should be fine. I bought a rusty 2000 Land Crusier that lived in New England its whole life and i was surprised to see that the underneath was not that bad. Just my fenders and rear lift gate. Check you’re brake lines tho! A tank like the land Crusier would sure be tough to stop with bad brake lines.

    • @kyleburns9439
      @kyleburns9439 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with you, and the truck is never going to stop running, but it's approaching a critical point where the rust is going to cause more damage than would be worth investing to fix, especially with the ride quality and fenders and tailgate as you said.

    • @FPVsean
      @FPVsean 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well when he bought it he had to replace the entire rear tailgate, which was difficult to come by and considerably expensive, there could be more rust on it than he knows!

    I drove a 1999 Toyota 4Runner Limited across 16 countries from Oregon to Argentina. It's crossed Peru's Cañón del Pato, Chile's Atacama desert, the Bolivian lagunas, and the Andes 6 times. The throttle control sensor died in New Mexico, I replaced brake pads 3 times, and I only lost one Wrangler A/T tire. That was it. Then I shipped it from Buenos Aires to Florida, drove it across the country, and it's still my daily driver today. If you manage to kill a 1FZ-FE in a Colorado ski resort you're just aiming for TH-cam drama.

    People who are not true off-roaders should not try to make off-roading videos. Had he installed the proper size gears after putting on larger tires, then low gear would not be necessary for a gravel road.

    When changing to low range one must be in neutral or Park (the Disco 2 I have must be in Neutral) or just roll back or forward a touch, this is how I get my Defender though the ratios to align the gear teeth (they are straight cut) and it helps massively.
