Junkerbunker it was a used LS2 engine, a bearing can spin at anytime, its even possible it was worn slightly from lack there of previous maintenance. Im sure the wet sump didnt help the engine spin a rod bearing

As a fire investigator, I would say your assessment of the origin area of the fire is pretty good. Kinda surprised your insurance company didn't send out a fire investigator to look at it. I've looked at much cheaper cars with much greater damage. That would have been a fun investigation to do.

When a vehicle catches fire, the Fire Department opens every compartment in the vehicle to investigate for possible fire extension. Firefighters are rarely concerned about causing further damage to a vehicle, as the majority of the time vehicles they are called to are severely damaged anyway. An axe, usually coupled with a tool called a Halligan (which is essentially a large modified crowbar), are the "bread and butter" tools of the fire service when it comes to forcing entry. In this case, the Fire Department, in order to check for fire extension, saw it fit to try and open the hood of your car by first trying to determine where the latch was. (Often times, the hood release cable is accessible are in grille areas they tried to get to) The fire department certainly will never whack cars to deploy airbags, or degas the A/C system. They were simply trying to open your hood in the standard practice of the fire department.

One of the other interesting things about the dashboard is the controls for the climate control. I say "controls", but Ferrari decided not to have multiple controls. Instead, they used just ONE control where every knob and switch is just melted together. Nobody ever expected to see melted controls in a Ferrari, and yet here it is.

If it was leaking PS fluid its not an unreasonable theory. He's not an insurance investigator. Power steering fluid absolutely can and has started many vehicle fires.

Hoovie, if you end up keeping Apollo, consider switching over to a Trailblazer SS oil pan. They are front sump which is awful for RWD applications which is why the Trailblazer SS is notorious for blowing up LS2s at hard launch. However, in your application this might just be perfect.
GTO pan is also front sump.
My buddy's wife blew his SS up because of that oil pan and the oil loss rings GM uses. It's built much better now and is way faster...

That Hmmm is one of the most common and dumbarse comments on the internet. It means you don't know shite and you are casting aspersions on somebody without backing it up. In the real world It's a lot easier to figure out what went wrong than what is going to go wrong. What chaps my butt is how these car manufacturers can build these cars for megabucks and screw up what should be routine engineering. I've seen hundred year old aviation engines with better engineering than these modern supercars.

The hole in the grill is explainable. As a firefighter.... You are trained that you can pop the hood on a normal car by going through the grill and pulling on the hood latch cable. Unfortunately, the fireman didn’t realize the Ferrari pops from the cowl.

Wasn't that a stock ls? Could've been an easy fix since the swap is already done. Just use a different oil pan or a dry sump system. Fixing it would have made more sense even if you're over it and would have sold it. Whoever bought it got a spanking great deal if he can work on his own cars, even if not, still an amazing deal. I guess after only buying "the cheapest" everything, you provide some to others as well.

The Dark Phantom The Ferrari wasn't his fault because old Ferrari's can be very suicidal and the 911 was completely Hoovie's fault. He noticed he lost oil pressure and instead of shutting it down immediately and getting towed off the track, he drove off the track, parked it and left it idling, and was constantly revving it to show people the sound it was making, just like the original 911 engine. Hoovie killed both of those engines himself by handling a loss of oil pressure very poorly. He failed before he even touched the track by knowing what happened to the original engine and not putting in a dry sump..........Not trying to bash on Hoovie. I love this channel. We all make mistakes, Hoovie's just happen to be broadcast for everyone to see.
Regardless a mechanic should be advising his client as well as fixing.

Newton??? My father is from Newton. He grew up there and worked at the Dillon's near downtown Newton while in high school as a stocker/bagger. I have fond memories of spending many holidays in Newton visiting my grandparents. The city pool in the summer, and the downtown area with brick streets, and shops, so many memories of life in a better time. Nearly every Christmas growing up we'd have snow, and even some during Thanksgiving. We'd stuff our faces and watch football til we fell victim to the ol' mighty Tryptophan.
My grandparents lived off Alice Avenue in a late 60's built Split Level home, near the old K-Mart in town. We'd go to Hutchinson, KS to the Pizza Hut for family pizza night's when we'd visit. The drive from our home in the DFW area of Texas was about 7 hours.
My grandma worked for Beechcraft in Wichita, KS; making parts for the planes, my grandpa was in WW 2, and then a fire fighter after returning home from the war. My father was born in Newton KS, 1946. His brother 1952. They're all passed on now, but man Newton will always hold a dear place in my heart. I hate the water in Newton; has a funny chemical taste that you'd never forget if you tried it or drank it ever.
My mother was from Goodland KS, I recall some fond memories up there as well, but we visited my father's parents far more than my mom's. Newton is a great little sleepy town, and eventhough it's been since 2013 since I visited (grandma's funeral); I miss it from time to time.

I've been building LS motors since they became public and I've only seen them spin a bearing after long periods of oil starvation... Sorry to say but the "wizard" had the wrong pan and pick up tube in it for a transverse mount... Also, relief holes that are in the oil galley are designed to drain at the rear of the block so if flipped around... No drain... No oil...

apparently everyone forgets or doesn't know about it these days and just has the money to throw at builds just like this. tons of people do this with v8's at the track that aren't dry sump. Oh well, not my money haha

Dont hold your breath. The lambo project was basically 80 episodes of some dude welding a turbo manifold. He did very little actual work to it. This rarri going to take alot of fab work and expertise. His supra build will be a good yard stick. He's already taking forever on it and it's a very easy platform with tons and tons of history and guides for it.
I mean tavarish did alot of good work on that lambo and he putted that tape there just to be sure his precious car wouldnt burn down to the ground like this one
Yep, definitely the cause was the poor design of the fuel lines, as the hose clamps too next to these rub and eat all the rubber causing small leaks, but being these right on top of the exhaust manifolds with extreme heat we all know what could happen. Many Ferrari forums speak about this issue, and most F355 fires are due to this.
Yep problem with those remotely placed Ferrari owners - even when Ferrari was picking up all the tab.
One would think that Ferrari had fuel and heat figured out.
I have a 2004 GTO, GM had a recall on the flex line to the fuel rail. It rubbed on the cosmetic plastic motor cover = FIRE. Recall replaced it with a braided line. Stupid....
+tron121 As far as I have read, the recall for these F355s meant installing a redesigned fuel block to move away the fuel lines from nearby hose clamps that imposed a risk when installed at a certain position and can rub the whole line and cause a fire. This issue can also be addressed by placing some kind of "dividing" heat shield between the fuel lines and the exhaust manifold to reduce potential risks, and protect the former from being cut by other elements from the engine because of constant contact and vibrations. Braided lines are a much safer option, but this needs to be done to have "peace of mind". Sure old rubber and plastic components can get brittled and begin to crack as they lose flexibility, but the fire issue was known way back when the model was just some years old.

If the 911 can be sold for much more after the repair, you should repair it first, I think. Maybe you can get a great deal on a different engine and save some money there, too. Seems like selling it, as is, is the worst financial decision you can make.
