    Thanks very much for this video and the reassembly one too! I'd never opened up a transmission before and this video gave me the confidence to do it. It stressed me out a bit, but the bearing has been replaced and the loud growling noise is gone.

    I just replaced the input shaft bearing on a Honda Jazz (Honda Fit) 2005 gearbox using these instructions. Thanks to the video I was guided all the way.

    These instructions were fantastic and gave me the stones to attempt transmission work which always scared me. I actually did this job a while ago and my transmission is still perfect. No more of that nasty grinding sound. Thanks very much for this.

    I figured out what I was doing wrong. I was tightening the 12 mm case bolts too tight. I took it apart and redid it with my torque wrench to 20lbs. works like a charm now. I would have been lost without your video though. thank you so much. :)

    I have a badd input shaft bearing do you have to take the complete transmission out to repair it plus the bell housing or can you detach it from the bell housing and not have to take the whole transmission out to get to the Bearing this is on a 2004 Nissan frontier 5 speed manual

  • @crownedroyal2003

    I only replaced the one bearing. The second shaft clutch case bearing is still in while I cleaned the case. You can replace all the bearings as good measure, but I find only the one commonly fails.

    Use a small pry bar or screw driver to pull the shaft (try and grab the counter shaft nut) up into place. Another method is to bolt the cases together and then flip the transmission so the counter shaft falls into the snap ring groove.

I tried looking for videos on TH-cam but all are very amateur, bad quality and not explaining a lot. Also most of them are about CVT gearbox which I believe is quite different then mine

    Question, I have a 04 civic lx coupe, and have the noisy bearing issue, is it best to replace back to oem or use something more durable? And how will this bearing effect the transmission other than making raspy sounds in 1,2,and 3?

    • @crownedroyal2003
      @crownedroyal2003  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Other than noise it doesn't effect the operation transmission at all. I have only seen one that the bearing came apart and damaged the main shaft itself. I have yet to find second line bearing that fits this transmission.

    7:05 If you wanted to reinstall that bearing just to replace the seal in front of it, how would you go about removing the bearing so as to not damage it?

    • @OrionDakota
      @OrionDakota 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same procedure. Brass is a softer metal than the hardened steel and shouldnt damage the bearing unless you get real stupid with it. Sounds like its a common bearing to fail and is relatively cheap so perhaps you should change it anyway.
      If you want to be very paranoid about damaging it you can cut and use a piece of wood to hammer on. I use a block of wood for hammering on stuff alot because you can hit as hard as you want with the hammer and wont damage the metal. Good luck!

Going to take my time to reassemble it properly. Video has been helpful. Your video has helped me greatly in getting to the input shaft bearing once I figured out that was the problem. The bigger problem is that after removing the gear assembly the inner bearing ring came out with the assembly and the balls went everywhere leaving the outer bearing ring in the case. Any wisdom on removing the outer part of a pressed bearing? Thanks.

    • @crownedroyal2003
      @crownedroyal2003  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      It sucks when the other bearing sticks in the case! I have no true and test method to remove these stubborn bearings. I usually use two 90deg picks and try to pull it out. Sometimes tapping on the case will aid with removal. Good luck.

    • @Frankintegra
      @Frankintegra 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      The way to get that bearing out is to fill in as much as you can in the middle with thick grease, and get a punch/drift that's almost the same size as the hole in the inner race and drive it down into it. The grease will act like a hydraulic fluid and push the bearing up an out back toward you.

    Hey I just bought a 2004 Honda Civic. It was making a loud noise kind of like grinding or whirring. We knew the throw out bearing needed to be changed so we just had the whole clutch replaced. We got the car back and we still hear the noise. If we press the clutch in the noise goes away. I’m thinking it’s the main shaft bearing because of previous comments. We only hear it in 1st or 2nd while driving and while driving at a higher speed. I could send you a video of the noise if you could help me out. If you’re looking at the engine, the noise is coming from the left side in the middle. Thank you

    I pulled the trans, put it in neutral as you did, and when I popped the case the thing is stuck to the something inside. In your video the case just popped off. I even had the snap ring pliers on the ring to pop the case. I have the cases separated by a half inch and I could lift the case top (half with the shift mechanism) and it will pull the whole transmission up. Any thoughts on what the hell is sticking?

    So I'm guessing this is the problem I'm having on my 03 Civic. It makes that annoying sound when I'm off the clutch when I push the clutch pedal in the sound goes away. I was told it was the throw out bearing but what learned in school is a bad throw out bearing will make noise when the clutch pedal is pushed in and go away when pedal is out. Basically when you push the pedal in the shaft stops spinning so the input shaft bearing stops too correct ?

      mxrider1111111 Its a hard noise to describe. I would call it a rotational grinding noise when driving the vehicle. Its most noticeable in first gear and the noise will go sway the when shifting up the gears as it takes load off the failed bearing. You usually can hear the bearing in neutral with the clutch pedal released. When you put your foot on the clutch the noise should go away. I should not that the bearing noise will differ in sound from neutral and when driving because of load on the bearing. I hope this is clear, I'm not the best at describing things!

      cool, so this sounds like the noise I am experiencing. Loudest in first gear on light acceleration and also on decal in first, like going down a hill. If you very lightly apply the gas on decal it will pretty much go away.

The same problem occurs when changing gears, including reverse gear. All engine mounts, wheel bearings, clutch kit, flywheel, and both main shaft bearings have been replaced, but the problem persists. Please help me with this issue.
