    You can use a implement that is significantly heavier (between 0.5 and 2 times the weight of the competition implement) to do heavy stand throws. That really helped me.

    • @ThrowsUniversity
      @ThrowsUniversity  4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Absolutely. We wont do full turns for anything above 50% over comp weight, but stands and half turns are great!

    Could you just train with a 9kg shot? I used to train with a 5.5kg shot when I was only throwing a 4kg in competition. Granted I was only 15 and didn't go to the gym to lift at all.

    Why not use an overweight shot put, like a 9kg or 10kg one, or heavier.. now that would simulate perfectly the actual throw... same in discus, javelin, hammer... use a heavier implement... with a heavy ass weighted vest on....

    • @ThrowsUniversity
      @ThrowsUniversity  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We do use heavier implements in our training. This is to emphasize weights closer to 12kg + for males and 9 kg + for females

    I throw the Highland Games. We do a few upwards throws (weight over bar and caber). I do hang cleans/snatches, but do you know any faster gym movements?

    • @ThrowsUniversity
      @ThrowsUniversity  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Those are good exercises. Banded discus stands would be good. Standing bench press is really good with a split stance like the jerk position. You can also do seated barbell throws as featured in the video.
