    Got my 2021 F-150 Whippled, no problems 🤞. Whipple customer service actually sucks. I think they only took care of you guys cause you guys have a good following on TH-cam but to the average Joe like myself. I had a hard time just getting someone to talk or return my phone calls. You are right on everything else like mileage. You can't stay off that pedal, it's my Kryptonite.

      I haven't had any problems with mine but even for them to check you data logs everything is done by email and every email takes any where from 1-3 days. For a response I guess the days of talking to people on the phone are long gone. What time are you running in your truck?

    This video reminded me of all the problems I had with my Shelby Truck (replacing both engine and transmission). I certainly agree with your assessment that if you aren't pushing your supercharged truck to its limits it can actually be reliable. After I put my new engine in and had Palm Beach Dyno do a conservative tune I got 30k trouble free miles out of the truck before selling it. Yeah, I'm gunna blame that conservative tune for why The Wolf kicked my truck's butt in our race a couple years back. lol Love the content, brothers! Keep it up! TGBTG!

    I highly recommend supercharging your 5.0 just don't go to far with it if you want it to last 150k or more. I have about 70000 miles on my f150 with not a single problem except the intercooler pump started making some noise. So I just ordered a brushless pump. Pretty easy install. Fuel mileage actually went up in town but dropped on the highway.

      When you say “don’t go too far with it” do you mean literally don’t take long trips or don’t push it too hard and stretch every bit of power you can out of it? 😂

    • @BackroadDriver
      @BackroadDriver  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @sebastiandelmaro Don't keep adding parts until it's so complicated and makes so much power it's not fun to daily drive anymore. It kind of goes hand in hand. Make it fast but don't go overboard if that makes any sense. Trying to get that last 100 horsepower out of a vehicle costs the most amount of money and causes the most heartache as well.

    • @sebastiandelmaro
      @sebastiandelmaro 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@BackroadDriver I would agree to that on just about any car though, at that point you’re better off buying something that already has that much power or something made specifically for the track. I’m just looking to have some good power to have fun on the way home from work at night but not sure if it’s worth supercharging if I don’t have 4x4

    • @clintharrison3568

      @@sebastiandelmaro just don't boost it to much if you want it to last a long time. I have the roush on mine and have pulled a 6x10 inclosed with 3 dirtbikes all over new mexico, colorado and Utah several times without a problem. The roush and whipple are good kits. You can drive across the country and not worry about anything.

    It will become a neverending project and money pit. It will become your hobby and bring more joy to your life. And yes, everyone (99% will be other guys) who knows of your modified supercharged truck will admire you and your truck.

    I contacted a dealer in Nashville this past Jan and got in queue for ‘21 Shelby SS Sport F150. As with everything the 21’s were delayed, and ended up getting my truck in early June. It’s a std cab 4WD Whipple charged 5.0. 1500 mile break in, where by I changed the oil, and again at 3k. I tow my 6k lb car hauler, and it sees routine daily service. I drive it conservatively as I fill my right foot needs with “sporty” cars. At 70 mph unloaded it will return 21 MPG, and 18.5 at 75 MPH. Daily I am at 15.6 mixed. I had an ‘04 Lightning with cams, ported Eaton, Pullied and full Bassini exhaust that was 10 MPG mixed which is less than when I tow with my ‘21! The 10 speed, and 5.0 top end charge is impressive if you have enough road. Most of the time, like I said it serves as a bad-ass utility vehicle. I intend to keep it a long time. Cheers guys on keeping the faith!

    My "22 is going to the dyne Friday and to say I'm exited for Monday delivery is an understatement. It had 941 miles on it and got the 3.0 Stage 2, Stainless Works Long Tubes, Stainless Works mufflers, Cats and a custom lightning style exit since when I ordered my truck there was no pictures and I started seeing the black appearance package came with the cut rear bumper so we didn't order the lightning style exhaust. Well the truck shows up and with max tow you don't get the cut bumper… The builder took it to a show here last weekend without the headers and exhaust and he said the 40 roll even at 3/4 throttle was insane. This from a guy that drives a highly modified Procharged Silverado 6.2. I'm slowly turning our county into Ford guys 🤣 Having that Whipple warranty is honestly what sealed the deal for me after coming out of lifted deleted diesels. Everyone knows what a nightmare that is now...

    Would it be worth it to supercharge a 4x2 f150? I’m not looking to drag race all day it’s my daily work truck but just like to have the power. Instead of spending thousands to go FBO and there isn’t even a tune for the 2024 yet, I think it would be best to just spend a couple thousand more for the whipple and some better flowing exhaust and a good tire

    • @BackroadDriver
      @BackroadDriver  13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You'll have fun with a 4x2 truck and a supercharger. It will never be as fast or as safe in bad weather though. With a 305/55/20 Recon grappler I can blow the tires off at 90 mph on the interstate if I stay in 4x2. That's with an 85 tune and fuel system etc but you'll still have the potential for those issues at lower speeds with the Whipple tune. I've also ran a set of 305/50/20 Toyo proxes and nitto nv420's. There's almost no difference between the larger all-terrain tires. You'd need a drag pack which isn't practical for a daily driver if you're wanting to actually have decent traction and a drag pack sucks in the rain.
      I often switch into 4A when it rains since I have a Lariat. In 2wd you'll need to be extra careful on slick roads and that sort of thing. As I've said you can have fun with the 2wd whippled trucks but there are lots of limitations. I would recommend joining some of the Facebook groups and that sort of thing so you get a better idea of what you're getting yourself into.

    My whipple is almost here for my 2017 f150, I did stage 2. I live in an area with with small towns I can only get 92 octane. How do you guys think that'll fair? P.s. I have been a subscriber since I found your channel, you guys are awsome

    • @BackroadDriver
      @BackroadDriver  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You'll be fine with 92. Just remember that you need to be a little more careful if you start tinkering. Whipple designs their kits to run on 91 if need be. If you ever go with an aftermarket tuner they will tune to the fuel that you have in your area.

    Hey Sam. You mentioned not pulling a camper with a smaller pulley. What's the reason ? Also I have a 2020 F150 with the Roush Supercharger and was considering doing the upgrade to get the extra 100hp, but if it will mess with my cats. I guess for now that's off the table, because it involves a pulley change and bigger throttle body.

    • @thesamizer
      @thesamizer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm being careful because I don't have an aftermarket tune with the smaller pulley. At some point even with an aftermarket tune that is geared towards performance you probably don't want to tow. You can go ahead and do your mods but work with your tuner to get a proper tune that is safe for towing. The engine works harder when towing and you need to take that into consideration.

    • @toddstrickland2885
      @toddstrickland2885 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Appreciate your reply Sam. Mine didn't come with a tuner for the Roush Supercharger. It's my understanding that Roush doesn't have tuners for the owners. You have to take it back to the dealer. Do you recommend a good tuner for it? Mitchell's crew down at Town and Country did my build also. Also thanks for all of yalls time making these great and honest videos. We need more from you and Brad... Keep up the good work and honesty guys...... We need more guys like yall being honest making these videos.

    • @BackroadDriver
      @BackroadDriver  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're running the Roush tune that came with the truck you should be just fine to tow or anything else. It is made to be safe and good for all around truck use. If you're looking for a good company to tune your truck I would look at Oz tuning. Remember only trucks through 2020 can be tuned. If you've got a 21+ there's nothing you can do for a while.

  • @TimfromAlabama
    @TimfromAlabama 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    So, you say you have to use 93 octane. Would 100% non-ethanol, pure gas be better? Not sure if you have it up there, but here in central Alabama we have it. More hp and better mileage over 87, 89, even 93 octane on a OEM engine with 100% over any ethanol. Just wonder if you guys have tried, or can get and see if that does better over the 93. Here 93 and 87/100% is the same price, but the 100% on my 5.3 uses about 15% less gas and around 4 to 6mpg better on a daily driver. Just a question I wondered. Anyway, sharing your site with all the folks on my social media accounts. Need to get you guys to 100k subs at the very least. Never too late. I've already got 25k on my 21 F-150. We are supercharging a GT350 with a lot of miles on it as we speak. Most vehicles that get performance upgrades end up being higher mileage vehicles anyway. If you plan on having fun with it and not abusing it all the time you should be good to go. At your mileage if you were going to track it hard and go as hard as you can I would say no... Unless you put some money back to work on it in the future. You were going to have to do that anyway. Most of these trucks are good close to 200k now
