changed mines at 125k for first time in my 2013 5.0. Fluid was dirty but not black. Gears looked good. No scarring or marring of gears and teeth on gears were perfect. Gale Banks will inform you as to why the factory diff cover is the best. He wanted to sell his own so he tested them. It has to do with the fluid getting slung correctly.
Banks main point was the flat back covers caused fluid flow issues. The cover he used in this video had a similar round back to direct fluid flow where it's needed.
My 21 came with the sealant on the diffs. Will eventually get a banks cover with an actual gasket seeing as how ford has fixed my rear diff twice already and it's leaking a third time.
I replaced my super 8.8 with B&M differential cover. Same awesome features your replacement has. I also used the lube locker gasket. However, I use nothing but Amsoil products, so I went with the severe gear lube.

Fluid is cheap but you could open the fill plug and check the color. Also good to put in 4WD every now and then to lube it up also put in Low a few times a year for same reason
You can change the fluid at any mileage you choose. The point is to get it done early. I will have changed mine at least 3 times by the time 150K rolls around. Your truck could have a 9.75 or an 8.8 diff. I have a link to both types in the description. You'll need to figure out which one you have.

At $370.00 + TAX & whatever else, I like it, However I am an OEM Kinda GUY and at this price point I would "THINK" That this Company could at the very LEAST Include the "3" Stand Off Bolts that fit for the Brake Line Routing. If you read their Disclosure, It "WILL VOID" your Factory Warranty??? STUPID. Nice Piece, But a No Go for me. Sorry.
I tow quite a bit and the truck is supercharged so I figured that warranted a very early fluid change. I agree you could go a little longer. Every 50 to 60k sounds like a nice sweet spot.

@@BackroadDriverthanks love your channel guys
Do not use aftermarket covers if you are under warranty!!! They void your warranty. Extended warranties included.
I do all rear diff and transfer case at 40k EXCEPT not the front diff. Would it be an issue to take it to 60k or 75k if you rarely if ever use the 4WD ?? Literally my 4WD has maybe 10 miles on it maximum ! My F150 is not an AWD.
Fluid is cheap but you could open the fill plug and check the color. Also good to put in 4WD every now and then to lube it up also put in Low a few times a year for same reason
So whenever hit 40k can change it? Also that diff cover fit the f150 22 XLT ?
You can change the fluid at any mileage you choose. The point is to get it done early.
I will have changed mine at least 3 times by the time 150K rolls around. Your truck could have a 9.75 or an 8.8 diff. I have a link to both types in the description. You'll need to figure out which one you have.
@@BackroadDriver now mine mileage is 21k so don't need to change that diff cover right or waiting until 40k then change it ?
I would wait till 40 to 50k.
@@BackroadDriver also 1 more question so can i using the W75-90 on that brand for mine 22XLT 3.5Eco too ?
$380.00 for a Diff cover is excessive priced ?
Great video thank you
2018 2.7L how do i know if i have limited slip or not
Ford only sells an open diff or an electronic locking diff from the factory. Limited slip on the trucks are aftermarket only.
@BackroadDriver thank you so much !
Why not banks?
What about your transfer case?
I did that service in a future video. Here is the link. th-cam.com/video/C5CQERLNlts/w-d-xo.htmlsi=pHQUCL7XmXQWvhC_
The Sterling 9.75 rear axle the very bottom bolt is a drain plug on the pan unfortunately the 8.8 super don't have that
Where’s the Reaper Hawk?
Parked in the garage. We may do a full update soon
Where’s the link?
Check it now. I was slacking.
Swag Performance has the same one!
Hopefully they're in stock. Spelab is working on getting more in inventory.
10 minutes after servicing both diffs suffered catastrophic failure 😂
Manufacturers should discontinue the hex Allen, and use only torx.
NO APPLICATION FOR 8.8 SUPER DIFF. COVER. 12 BOLT
I purchased a Differential cover from SPELAB and I need to get ahold of them by phone because they do not respond to email, Do you have a contact Phone #?
I like Toyota design just a drain and fill bolt
Love my 2019 F150 5.0 but I must say Ford did two really stupid things on this model, 1 use a plastic oil and transmission pan, WTF! 2 would it have been too difficult to add a drian bolt on the front diff cover? Comon Ford get real here.
At $370.00 + TAX & whatever else, I like it, However I am an OEM Kinda GUY and at this price point I would "THINK" That this Company could at the very LEAST Include the "3" Stand Off Bolts that fit for the Brake Line Routing. (This is just me Guy's), But I just can't and won't Buy this for that Very Reason, And Just in case you have a TRUCK that is "Still The Under Factory"???? If you read their Disclosure, It "WILL VOID" your Factory Warranty??? (Hence, the Stand Off Bolts for the Brake Line Routing), Seem's rather Stupid to me that you can buy something to "Improve" upon the Look's AND The Function (Like Gayle Bank's) Unit, and it VOIDS your Warranty???? STUPID. Nice Piece, But a No Go for me. Sorry.
big mistake. aluminum takes about 31 foot pound , not 35 for steel covers
40k is very early unless you tow a lot but no way should anyone go over 100k no matter how easy they drive.
I tow quite a bit and the truck is supercharged so I figured that warranted a very early fluid change. I agree you could go a little longer. Every 50 to 60k sounds like a nice sweet spot.
All the maintenance that we do nowadays is BS back in the day my dad‘s there they do nothing on a rear end the coolant transmission fluid brake fluid all that bullshit. All they did is change your oil and the car ran forever now all of a sudden every mile hour this mile this mile you gotta change this this this bullshit, it falls to the ground and buy new one
Well everything’s made in China and the replacement parts are junk, plus the manufacturer wants to sell trucks. I hate problems and I’m happy to over maintain all my toys.
Are you changing to look cool ?
Cause I don’t see the benefit unless you own a F250 and tow heavy weight all the time..
