Nurse here. There's another I've encountered recently. One that talks over you and doesnt even listen to or care about your report. They come in, ignore you, and just start doing their own thing

Then when you come back later for your shift, they are complaining about missing or being blindsided by something you were attempting to tell them to follow up on in your report.

@@saraheyler6047 this drives me nuts, just because someone is a CNA it doesn't mean what they are saying is unimportant, I have worked with a nurse like that. Unfortunately their behavior cost them their job, they didn't follow up on something since they were not listening and someone missed a dose of medication & a check. It should not matter what someone's title is, you are all working as a team to provide excellent patient care. Anyone not dedicated to that should focus on learning how to say "would you like fries with that?" in multiple languages & get out of health care.

The passive aggressive ones irritate the living hell out of me, especially when they question why you were busy. Like, I’m sorry, do you want a complete inventory of my night right down to the 30 seconds I was on the toilet at 0045? I’m so sorry that my sundowning patient trying to crawl out of bed every 5 seconds whom I couldn’t get a posey order for in addition to spending 30 minutes calming down an irate family member, chasing critical labs and helping a new nurse about to have a mental breakdown because her patient threw themselves in the floor because she didn’t give them their pain medicine quick enough interfered with me getting a second IV on someone who’s not even going for a procedure today or I didn’t call for a lab value that resulted at 0655, even though we start report at 0630. Oh, ok, make a comment about the chest tube “not looking right” in front of the patient in a way that gives them an anxiety attack when they haven’t slept all night. Thanks, Becky. You happy now? Sorry, Blake. Got off on a tangent 😂😂😂😂

@@wardjami876 How crazy! I recently was getting report from a newer nurse who worked nightshift giving myself report on a patient who was going for a colonoscopy later that day. I always come in early before my shift so I could look up all the orders on my patients BEFORE getting report and saw patient was supposed to get a tap water enema until clear before the end of nightshift. I asked the nurse if the patient was clear after the enema and she had no idea the patient was supposed to have one because the previous nurse didn't tell her! I politely told her she needs to always check the orders herself and usually the gi doctors at my hospital tend to order enemas in the early am for colonoscopies. When I came in early to look up my patients I saw this same nurse playing on her phone so I know she had time to check the orders. If I see the previous nurse running around busy towards the end of their shift, I'm a lot more easygoing and help them. But I understand she's new but she needs to learn. Not all nurses are as understanding as I am. ; )

I actually like dealing with passive aggressive people. I have nerve damage in my face so i rarely emote at all and when people get all passive aggressive and you just act like nothing is out of the ordinary they either get increasingly pissy until they're overreacting (in which case you look cool and they look unstable) or they settle down and start acting normal.

Do you have one for nurses who find a way to be "busy" all shift but never actually work, then give reports like they are super involved? Years ago I worked as a Psych Tech on an adult patient ward that was unexpectedly opened out of necessity. We were all thrown in together and did our best but I was new and when I would chart I was very detailed. I took my responsibility seriously and genuinely wanted to help the patients get better. I found out later that the Charge Nurse was one foot out the door to retirement and resented the move so she refused to come out of the station and talk to the patients or gauge the atmosphere on the Unit. Instead, she was passing my notes off as hers to the Psychiatrist and other shifts! She even had the nerve once to compliment me on my note taking during an evaluation. She eventually left when she allowed a patient to escape because she wasn't paying attention and they left through an unlocked door. (We got them back a couple hours later.)
