I got this guy on pay day at my job. Went to target and looked around for him specifically. Just when I was about to give up I found 2 tarns stuffed under the shelves.
I’ll admit, once I found a rare Transformer in a shop, I was just browsing, I wouldn’t get paid until the next day. There was only one of them, and I hid him on the shelf below behind another product so he’d still be there the next day when I came back to get him. I know, it isn’t a great practice, but it was literally the only one I had ever seen, and actually, it’s still the only one I’ve ever seen, so I’m glad I “put him on hold” for myself.
@@SamanthaS92 I've had to do this, before, so I don't blame you. Hasbro has gotten so bad with their distribution that there are some figures I've never seen in a store that I seriously want. My Target still to this day hasn't gotten a SINGLE Beast Wars Inferno, and it's infuriating me so much. I held off on pre-ording him because I wanted to see the figure in person to pick the one with the best face paint job given that's his best feature, and I've only lost out on the because Hasbro can't distribute for shit. I also hid a Tarn at my Target recently, as well, the only one there, just because I found out I quite literally left my wallet in another pair of pants, and had to go get it. I didn't want to risk losing out on the figure, so I made sure I wouldn't. This wouldn't even be a problem if Hasbro actually offered a reasonable stock of figures, and if they, I don't know, LIMIT THE FIGURES YOU CAN BUY ON THEIR WEBSITE WHILE NEVER RESTOCKING THEM FREAKING EVER! Hiding figures isn't a good practice, I won't deny that, but it's become a necessary one all because of Hasbro, so I can't feel shame for it when it's the only available option to get some figures, anymore since you can never be sure you'll ever see one, again considering I saw one Armada Starscream in the entirety of the time the wave has been in production thus far.
That "Evo-Fusion" of combining his 2 guns together may be the closest thing we get to Vos, who is another member of the DJD (Decepticon Justice Division) with an alt mode of a sniper rifle. So... there that. I have mine displayed that way.
I'm surprised that you didn't mention the fact that his torso is like, 60% clear plastic. But yeah. He's an awesome figure. He works well with most of the Weaponizers, with his abundance of peg holes.
I think Impactor was technically the last Comic Book original character to get a toy... and multiple versions of that mold only on of which is actually accurate to how he looked in IDW but I really don't care cause I never had an attachment to the character in the comics. Anyway I do love Tarns design and he is one of the few toys I'm going to pick up despite the Hasbro price hikes... if I can ever find one in my area. My local Wart Mart SUCKS at restocking their toy shelves because they're literally the only toy store without having to dive to a store in a completely different county, which I'm doing anyway to see my brother next month so hopefully I can pick one up while I'm out of town if they don't pop up in my local store.
Doubtful. They haven’t done a non-MP gun Megatron or Shockwave in years, and if those couldn’t happen, Vos is entirely off the table. Believe me, I’d love for the rest of the DJD to get official toys as accurate as Tarn is, but T they either have aggressively kid-unfriendly alternate modes (Kaon and Vos) or such ill-defined alt-modes that accuracy would hurt the end result (Helex and Tesarus). The team needs an overhaul to make them more toy-friendly. Here’s my suggestions: Kaon (Cybertronian biplane; could be retooled into Anode or G2 Ransack) Vos (Cybertronian attack drone a la Siege Refraktor; includes a rifle shaped like his original gun mode; could be retooled into a Vehicon) Helex (Cybertronian mobile anti-aircraft emplacement; could be retooled into Grandus) Tesarus (Cybertronian bulldozer/excavator hybrid; could be retooled into Armada Scavenger)
We already have a figure that transforms into a gun, in the form of ROTB Freezer. As long as Vos transforms into an unrealistic gun, he can be released onto the mainline.
@@slugmaligma9248 If he's made lore accurate to be scaled for other figures to hold him, I don't see the problem. Megatron and Shockwave not being guns anymore is probably more to do with their size making them potentially mistaken for a real weapon. If their allowed to do target masters I don't see why we can't get a comics accurate Vos.
So so happy about Tarn, an understatement to say the least. Only complaint on my copy his tread that hinge hip likes to shoulder falls off pretty easily. On one arm I believe.
I've had this on pre-order through Amazon since the day they first made it available...March 3rd seems to be the magic date for him and Scraphook, and I can't wait. Tarn is the one figure from this wave I was looking forward to most...Like a lot people, I'm sure. Great video.
Awesome job with your reviews, TJ. Your style continues to be top tier. MTME never grabbed me so this character feels like “somebody else’s Transformers” and because of this, it doesn’t seem to fit in my collection…but I’ll admit that it looks like a very nice toy.
I just got mine at a local Target a few days ago; very lucky to get the last one there under $30. Highly posable and a really badass-looking Deception.
I think he's a great rendition of Tarn and worth picking up, even if you're not a fan of the character. Btw, the knees are supposed to tab into the back of the shins for robot mode, but untabbed does give you the double joint (even though it's part of the transformation and not a dedicated joint).
I feel like the bad part about the missing wheels underneath is that, well.. It's still a toy! There's plenty of kids that mainly get generations toys, so for it to be missing the ability to roll is a big bummer for a kid that gets Tarn. I've seen it with my nephews and SS86 Blurr- he's a vehicle who can't roll, so he's a little disappointing to them.
Not sure why you say not a lot of his detailing is done with paint, since he’s absolutely covered in paint. More so than most voyagers. His entire chest and back panels, almost the entirety of his shins, the cannons, there’s a ton.
Hey TJ OMEGA amazing review on legacy tarn I ordered mine and I'm expecting it next Tuesday I'm so happy that ordered him as always keep up with the good work ok
I think maybe the hands on the back of the vehicle are meant to look like plows? They had the hands with the palms pointing down in the pulsecon livestream. Kinda like Energon Landmine
The lack of screws is a dealbreaker for me. I know it’s common for the hips to have pins anyway, but the front is covered up! I don’t want to use a SOLDERING IRON just to tighten joints!
I wish the left arm also had two ports, or at least had it in the back. The front is to much ahead to make decent "cannon on each arm" kind of look IMO.
Oh how I would like special Legacy 2-pack that has Jhiaxus and Tarn as both are comic only featured characters. I would legit pay for such set and way to have the two.
Went all the way to my nearest Smyths to get this guy but they didn't have him. They had everyone else from Wave 4 but no frikkin Tarn. At least i found a Galaxy Shuttle for £25 and my brother was nice enough to buy him for me. Would be nice if the chestplate would not pop off when i'm transforming the chest.
If I can offer any help when transforming Tarn only move the treads halfway and don't move the chest piece all the way up when you untab it till you do the treads patriot prime does it in his review if you need visual help
To be fair, I think Beast Machines was mostly hurt by two things. The art design and the changes to characters. Any new TF series is going to change the designs to sell new toys, but they strayed too far from the look of Beast Wars. And while characters have to develop and grow, the writers went way out into left field here. The stories were actually pretty strong, but those two mis-steps really hurt the series.
I wonder if you'll be pleasantly surprised when the time comes for Beast Machines episode reviews. I think I might prefer it to Beast Wars, anymore, but that's probably more a "me" thing than a general one. Still, a lot of what made me kinda hate Beast Machines back in the day doesn't really apply anymore. Stuff like no longer being annoyed at how different the toys were from the show models. Or disliking the new animation aesthetic versus the Beast Wars one. Of fearing a bunch of stuff from the last two seasons of Beast Wars was being ignored. So, yeah: I am genuinely curious about how the series may hit you now. No spare income for your Patreon, sadly. =/ Still, I'm glad you have people who can pay you, and that you've been regularly producing daily content for over year, now! :)
Okay, fine, I’ll call him Damus. In all seriousness, this figure almost feels like a thank you to IDW after seventeen years of revolutionizing how Transformers stories are told. What better way to celebrate the end of Hasbro and IDW’s partnership than to take one of the most iconic IDW originals and give him a toy so good it could easily be the best of the decade? Hopefully this isn’t the end of IDW designs getting some Generations love- they helped kickstart Generations back in 2010, and it’d only be right to use those designs to keep things chugging along. Bob the Insecticon (maybe as a Core Class with a Hasbro-designed robot mode?) Cosmos (specifically a chunky Voyager version based on his MTMTE body)
I’m personally not looking forward to your Beast Machines retrospective, because I greatly enjoyed Beast Machines, and you repeatedly said that you didn’t so I already know that while you will try to be as unbiased as possible, your negative thoughts will inevitably come through.
Personally I never care for this Decepticon, he's only good for being a pre-mould for The Fallen in my eyes. He's the type of one note villain that's super bland. He doesn't have Megatron's charisma to make him remembered outside of his design.
I feel like they meant to make this guy fun to flick back and forth between modes. Perfectly fitting for the character
Because he regularly burns out his t-cog
