So with the knee problem, it's probably mold degradation. I never had the original kingdom mold but apparently that wasn't a problem. I got the gen selects and have the same problem, or we have similar qc
I agree on the gray, I wish they'd gone more toy accurate and used a darker gray, but if you look at scenes from Masterforce, he's got this light gray/"silver" color, so I get the concept of using it. But yeah, it always looks bad and kinda cheap.
I really don't mind the gray, and it doesn't actually look like Games Workshop gray (which is quite a bit darker). I really like this bot, and this together with Twincast have been two of the rare bright spots in a tsunami of meh when it comes to recent CHUG figures imo. A very good use of the Cyclonus mold, which in my opinion may very well have been the best voyager or the entire War for Cybertron line. He has the same very solid, quality plastic feel that Cyclonus had, and I honestly find both of their transformations extremely satisfying. I kept Kingdom Cyclonus on my desk as a fidget toy for the past two years, and Metalhawk has now replaced him. Even though I'm slowly backing out of the CHUG collecting scene because I feel like too many corners have been getting cut the past year or so, I'm glad we've been getting some of the more obscure characters lately, and quite a bit of JG1: Black Zarak, Galaxy Shuttle, Twincast, Minerva, and Metalhawk? Sign me up!
tbh this guy doesn’t quite work the magic like cyclonus did for me. he’s got a much more conventional g1 style than the very dery look of cyclonus, he loses a lot of the sleekness of the original. i think something like lego’s colour for silver plastic wouldve helped a lot, the grey is clearly meant to feel like silver but it’s not metallic enough. same for the yellow, i think he needed to be more golden. the lack of metallic plastic on a guy called metalhawk is a real tragedy.
People from Russia only had a few copies of LEGACY BULKHEAD (also there were few ss core class and lift ticket). So consider yourself lucky, if you got figure few days after it's announcement
Dude, you’re country literally invaded it’s next door neighbour around that time. I wonder if those are linked? Maybe get rid of Putin, and then we can get you your transformers eh?
Can anyone clarify what he means by games workshop grey? Grey as in the warhammer plastic or the citadel paints? Since I've never seen a games workshop mini comes in that colour.
Great review! Thank you! This is a great remould of Cyclonus, but yeah, I'm with you. Not just on Boring Grey, either. I wish they'd also stop using varying shades of Earwax when they're trying to represent gold. Doesn't need to be Vac-Metal Gold, or Nnostalgic Swirly GPS Glitter Gold, or anything like that, but just something more metallic than what we've been getting with Black Zarak and Metalhawk and so on. Hello, That Toy Guy's Grandparents!
I agree with every point you made about this figure. Great design and reuse of the tooling, but with some flaws. Here in the U.S. Metalhawk originally sold for $35.00. That was a BIG turn-off for me. But, I recently found it at a clearance store, Burlington Coat Factory, for $8.00 US. I COULDN'T PASS THAT UP. For $8.00, He is OK. If I had paid full price, I would have been let down. So, I am hoping Hasbro takes note and slowly lower the price of their toys.
How the hell does this thing show up in Canada but wave 2 of regular Legacy not show up at my local Walmart? It's still being clogged by Arcee and Kickback.
Honestly, id love this to be redone into a mainline star saber, bulk up the shoulders + add pylons, retool the cockpit (dare i say allow star sabres helmet to be removable and parts form into the cockpit).
I'm shocked as I got Tarn almost 2 months ago. Didn't even realize he was available as most places still show him as a pre-order. I pre-ordered Tarn from Hasbro Pulse so that might make a difference.
A year after this figure came out and I got him for $8 at a Burlington coat factory love having him while that it cost $35 when he first came out though
They should also stop using solid neon colors without any panel lining or wash. It's way too oversaturated and Bland looking like someone just spilled paint on it
@@qwertyzillaofficial2969 when translating a cartoon in the live-action or into a toy they should definitely still add some detail or at least some kind of panel lining or shading. Solid yellow in a cartoon looks great but solid yellow on a toy when there's clearly mechanical detail there just looks lazy
i gotta say i am not a fan of that color scheme. Im not against an eye-wateringly bad color scheme, i love jihaxus, but jihaxus owns his awful colors in a way that metalhawk just... doesn't. he looks kinda KO to my eyes
What stand do you use for holding up the figures? I do stop motion and my current one sucks because it doesn't hold the weight of most of my transformers
I was very eager to get this because of how nice the alt-mode looks but I have zero recognition for Metalhawk as a robot and I really don't like how the robot looks, so getting this for only the alt-mode feels...like something I should avoid. So I'll avoid it. But the alt-mode DOES look very good (yes, apart from that gray, I so agree with you there, Toy Guy). I feel Apeface should have used this alt-mode, it would have looked very good for him, instead of him being such a huge flying brick (which hurt me so much that I didn't get the robot at all, but I kinda regret it). I also liked Cyclonus a lot, and his transformation was and is awesome, at least to me.
I managed to order tarn at retail price from blue u toys, even got here a day early. No idea if they ship to canada tho, might be something to look into
Agreed Hasbro needs to lose the grey already. Looks like prototype plastic. My biggest complaint about Galvatron though it may have been a shade darker than here. Other that really good looking figure in both modes. Also waiting for Tarn from BBTS. Looks like an amazing figure, and not much really catches my eye these days.
ever since i saw the pics for this figure, the first thing that came to my mind was that legacy metalhawk looks like an outdated prime wars figure to me. which is ironic because there already is a prime wars figure that exists i believe. but yeah, something about the toy looks like one to me. maybe it the mustard yellow on the chest and head. and the busy look of the alt mode. i dunno, something about the alt just screams cheap in my eyes. and yeah, the games workshop grey looks just awful on him and shouldve been a silver. maybe its just me, idk.
I originally hated the jet mode but now I see that it's the colors that suck. I'm gonna get this guy & repaint the jet mode. It could actually look awesome if painted properly. That big gray chunk is just as bad looking as the Bumblebee movie Thundercracker.
ngl I don't mind the gray, but I hate this mold ngl, I am skipping this toy for the factor of thinking my issues with the mold would not be solved. Also I am generally dissappointed that they didn't take some of the armor aspects into the figure. ngl I think a new mold where this was a Deluxe at a Voyager price point could have been cool as likely you would have had more accessories with two specifically in mind for me: His Blue helmet and his chest plate, aspects that would be able to be taken off but transformed with them on or well maybe not the helmet. Also he would have had a paint budget. Ngl I can see it already, he turns into the sort of small seeker jet but transforms in a way to where realistically he could have been made into Leader 1 from Gobots. The transformation would likely have like the nose cone get folded into the backwith the sort of intakes being apart of the armor and the inner robot. The armor idea would have two configurations: Sheild and armor. In armor mode the armor sits atop the chest and is supposed to look like the robot shell of Metalhawk, while in Sheild mode it compresses downin the area that would be the chest region so the back being the panel for an arm connection, giving Metalhawk that even more gundamy feel. The Intake region on the chestplate would also have storage for the sword that would really only make sense in robot mode lol. Plus you would have the option of him having his pistols and his rifle too in this mold idea with the only thing being hard to engineer in my mind being the helmet: The helmet would slide on with the hooks of the sort of ear panels being used to keep the helmet on via friction, it has one transformation idea being the flip out of the horn and where it plugs in on the jet mode would likely be the leg region as it would be the safest spot to put it. lest you overcomplicate the toy, alternatively have it hand of to the side. With this idea, you can remold this to also become Leader One or maybe having it be remolded for the sort of off seeker mold that is Falcon of the Predators, alternatively do what Legacy does and give Overcast a G1 design through it as he is a Movie Comic character based on the Movie 1 toyline scientist. Also before someone asks: my issues are mainly in the transformation with how the chest and the legs work with the top turn around bit mixed with how the legs collapse, it just feels like there could have been a way they could have done it differently where it would have been better.
Ah thanks for the info I’ll keep this in mind so I just figured out that it is 7 HOURS away from my house so maybe if I ever go to there I’ll go the store but for now I guess I won’t be thanks for the info tho
Well for you it was roughly 50 dollars, but over here in America it’s around 34.99 USD (it’s kind of funny how every year the prices for Voyagers and Leaders from the start of Siege have just progressively gone up by 1 dollar every year) so I’d say it’s worth it for that price. I still won’t be picking it up, not because it’s not a good figure, but because I’m a decepticon and hate those filthy Autobots.
Yeah, this grey always looks cheap. It's why I never got Titans Return Megatron back in the day (dodged a bullet tbh). But every time I see them use this grey, I just say WHYYYYYYYYYYY??? What purpose does it serve? I guarantee they're at most, saving two cents. Which I guess is why they use it. But it's absolutely horrible. Better than the grey vinyl they used on Apeface, but it's BARELY a step up.
Besides that gray, Hasbro did an amazing job on this. It doesn't even look like cyclonus
Except for the arms
True…
I KNEW it had to be a re-tool/re-engineer of another jet bot... just wasn't sure who
And the legs
So with the knee problem, it's probably mold degradation. I never had the original kingdom mold but apparently that wasn't a problem. I got the gen selects and have the same problem, or we have similar qc
i definitely had the issue with my first-run cyclonus. you just gotta apply pressure weird to make it move the way it should.
Kingdom Cyclonus was the same.
pretty cool design overall but only thing he’s missing is a whole pint of paint😀
Honestly the best part about the way his wrists fold in is that you can sort of fake a sword wielding wrist like 86 grimlock. Not well, but it works
4:46 bet you if they made it longer it would have to be rubber like blitzwing
I agree on the gray, I wish they'd gone more toy accurate and used a darker gray, but if you look at scenes from Masterforce, he's got this light gray/"silver" color, so I get the concept of using it. But yeah, it always looks bad and kinda cheap.
Was pretty excited to get his guy so quick and I too haven't even gotten my Tarn yet! Nor scraphook....but metalhawk is a pretty nice figure.
Tarn is no where 😂
Practically doesn’t exist in my area
@@gargamelshart3765 I found one and snagged it, even after soundwave siege turned me off from chug years back
How the hell do people already have this but I haven't found shit past wave ONE of legacy anywhere in a 50 mile radius.
They're giving out Metalhawks like candy at this point
I don't have a HUGE issue with that gray but on an unpainted series of accessories it's not good. Those needed paint, badly.
Your Grandfather being quiet and just watching your grandmom eating snacks is strangely hilarious lol

The US (at least my area) NEVER got Cosmos💀
You know, even as a Masterforce fan, I don't hugely mind the gray on his body. The sword, though. The sword NEEDS to be silver.
Can anyone clarify what he means by games workshop grey? Grey as in the warhammer plastic or the citadel paints? Since I've never seen a games workshop mini comes in that colour.
I'm honestly surprised hasbro and takara did think to retool/remold cyclonus into Deapthcharge like that 3rd party company did
Everybody's gota be somwhere -Cyclonus

Ayy we finally get Metalhawk also yeah your right about that intro XD Well looking forward to getting this guy.
I’m guessing you can count this as it’s own mold, like Cranckcase.
I would never have expect seeing that konjac shuang on a transformers review video. One of the best snacks among me and my friends back in China.
METALHAWK: You're no cyclone
CYCLONUS: You're no metal or a hawk

I gotta wonder why they screwed up the fore arms if it wasn't to make the arm bend look better
Just found him this morning, if it weren’t for the transformation joints you would have an impossibly hard time convincing me this was a retool
How the hell does this thing show up in Canada but wave 2 of regular Legacy not show up at my local Walmart? It's still being clogged by Arcee and Kickback.
My Walmarts only have those Kingdom BW repaints and Core Ratchet

I had no clue this was cyclonus WOW they did a great job of changing the mold
Its nice. But I can't get past the grey and yellow.
Calling this grey "games workshop grey" is an insult to games workshop grey.
Did you get the new version? I just got mine and he looks so much better!

Hopefully toy hax makes a sticker set with alot of purple

They could easily turn this mold into a new seeker. But they would never do anything like that. That may almost be to easy
Honestly, it'd be easy to repaint those grey parts- grey is easy enough to see, so it'd be easy to not mess it up
Where the eff is Tarn?
Umm excuse me I’m a collector too but I’m a teenager so it’s not just adults it’s teenagers too

the gray makes everything look like an early prototype or something you made with a 3D printer

Man just got revealed like two weeks ago, and it’s out in Canada.
You should do a review on the transformers prime rumble figure
As a fellow Canadian where and how did you get this?
Stores called heretoserveyou from Windsor Ontario
Ah thanks for the info I’ll keep this in mind so I just figured out that it is 7 HOURS away from my house so maybe if I ever go to there I’ll go the store but for now I guess I won’t be thanks for the info tho
Totally irrelevant with the review, but your Grandpa looks awesome with that beard!
This is the new ' environment friendly'' series! Less plastic in packaging and less paint
Great review That Toy Guy!!!! Metalhawk looks like he might rival Tarn in being the best Evolution voyager class figure. :D Keep on being amazing.
gw gray is darker
This and Skyquake are the two most interesting figures shown off recently.
While I wish the grey was darker, I honestly don’t mind it that much.
The best part of this review was the grandparents cameo
Not going to get him seems bad I’ll keep my cyclones as my version of that mold and the trigger happy remold/color of him also

im defo picking him up
RAINBOW DASH COOKIES?!!?

I thought you were being silly about the grey, until you showed your friend's custom.... yeah i'm on your side now.

The gray on Metalhawk works tbh
