@@qtarocujoh Nickel might be good as Flame 1245 points out. And some tweaks could make the others passable. Like change the barrel of Vos' sniper rifle mode be a rail gun. And make Kaon into a taser styled tank or truck.
Tarn being “skinny” kinda works imo. After all… He’s the Decepticons own personal Boogeyman, specifically the one that terrifies them. 😈 Plus… Bludgeon retool/remold?
You're not alone - Tarn's alt mode has always struck me as "robot mode was designed first", even in the comics. I've never particularly liked it, since it's more or less a brick with treads and guns randomly slapped on it in a way that doesn't look like it's actually functional. Then again, it is a faithful adaptation of the comics design to plastic, so if you like the character it'll be all good.
They were likely never designed to be sensible alt-modes for action figures. So while awkward that it pulled it off with Tarn and still made the robot mode look that damn good, I'll accept it.
@@jgvillan01 even as someone who didn't grow up with g1, soundwave has always been *the* poster boy of the decepticons to me. He is mr. Decepticon. Tarn does admittedly look awesome and did gruesome things but cassette boy all the way.

Even when his former hero is telling him to let go and move on, he can't, because being a Decepticon is his entire identity. Without the Decepticons, there is no Tarn. And well, that kind of identity crisis mixed with a sociopathic murderer usually doesn't end well.
Eh kids have seen Tarn has "the perfect decepticon" in the Bumblebee show and if memory serves he never got a toy so this might fill the hole in those kids collections's
I haven't read IDW outside of Last Stand of the Wreckers and a few random issues. This figure looks really cool especially with the purple/black/grey/gold color scheme and the Decepticon insignia mask. It has minimal hollowness, opening hands, multiple weapon configurations, and light piping. My only gripes are the visible hands plainly jutting out the back of the tank and no real rolling wheels in the tread sections. I like that the tank is not an "H" tank like so many "cybertronian" alt modes. I can't wait to get him.
IDK I think Tarn is an evil looking enough figure on his own that people who aren't familiar w him still might pick him up, at least until Bludgeon hits the shelves.
Just found this guy today (And Minerva in the wild, gasp). Robot mode is by far the best part of the figure, and it's stellar. Vehicle mode is a thing. But considering the weird nature of the DJD it works fairly well. I prefer doing his cannons individually on each arm, or over his shoulders, to avoid the weigh-down issues.
He looks cool but definitely could use a little more mass, just for intimidation factor. In this case, while many of us want a clean looking minimal backpack, when we finally get one here, now we're asking for a little more lol. i dont recall how tall he was in the comics but maybe making him a leader class wouldve been better? Or what we call a leader class now, which is voyager +.
I think you had it bad with the QC issues, since my copy didn't have those issues, aside from the slightly loose hip joints. The back guns never popped off on mine and the cannons on tank mode attach nicely.
I'm finding it's getting harder to find figures in stores. It seems like online retailers like bigbadtoystore is the best place to get figures these days, the only downside is having to wait for them to arrive. My newest purchase from Walmart was studio series bumblebee movie Ironhide, speaking of transformers, it seems like Hasbro is abandoning the no plastic in their packaging, because I saw in some of the new legacy packaging there is a plastic window, maybe Hasbro realized figures were either being damaged in transit, or reports of damage in stores.
I got this yesterday for my birthday. Thoroughly enjoy it with my only issue just being his arms falling inward while having his canons on. It’s annoying but I do find ways to balance it. I had chose Tarn over Lio Convoy but do plan to get him later thankfully found both at my Target seeing as they’d be the only ones I’d get out of their wave.
Normally I would only get one of the bigger figures at a time, but with how dry it's been here for -anything- new and I've always wanted a Lio Convoy who wasn't super huge compared to everyone else I had to grab both. Who knows when I'll get back into the bigger city this time of year.
With a name like Tarn I expecting a guy wielding a massive great axe and speaking like Arnold from the 1st Conan movie. LOL With all kidding aside the only complaint I would have is the QC issues too. Nothing should be that loose or pop off like that

The vehicle mode should always be the base for making a Transformer. It in the name. Thats my problem with most of the future vehicles that arent based on real vehicles.
This is pretty much my only 100% gotta-get figure currently. I don't care much for beast wars stuff, but IDW? OOooh, boy that's my jam. I've been eyeing the third party DJD stuff on eBay forever, but they've been hard to find and too expensive… I just hope this figure makes it to my country, so I don't have to pay scalper prices on eBay. Not aying I won't if I that's the only option, I just… hope I won't have to.
To me, given how thin and compact he is. I think the design would better suit a Megatron-based, army builder drone. Beast Machines style. Aside from that, I can't look at that altmode and not see the retool potential for G2 Omega Spreem.
Bad QC rears its ugly head again. The "flatness", design shortcuts in vehicle mode, and low overall mass are troubling, but I think this is the new normal. Hasbro took a sizeable staff and budget cut in 2022 in their efforts to restructure. It is what it is, and people will have to weigh the inconsistent quality of mainstream toys vs high cost and unreliable release schedule of 3rd party (with the political unrest occurring overseas).
I wish this guy was a shelf warmer, this vid came out 4 months ago and I haven’t seen this figure in stores at all, but I can find the wave 2 voyagers and leo prime just fine
I love the look of this figure. He looks so badass in both Robot 🤖 and tank modes. Hopefully he gets to come to my country New Zealand toy stores, so I can grab him
In my experience, the inward elbow joints are loose on mine. This gets really irritating when Im trying to put him into aiming poses. Still a bangin figure
Don't worry, I feel much the same about this figure. The robot mode does look a bit skinnier than most modern voyagers, and while it's very accurate, I'm not a huge fan of the tank mode either. It just looks like a bunch of kibble with guns strapped on top. Otherwise, robot mode at least turned out great!
A fix ive figured out if the backwards and forwards motion on the legs is loose and only if the waist has a screw that you can open up is to go in and paint the friction parts and let it dry or cover them in a light layer of superglue and left them dry but also the inside of where they fit. It helps with solidity in the long run same with the arms if they're on mushroom pegs.
the main reason I bought this was to get him super thick with every weaponizer I have. when u said there QC issue and its really loose I got scared of what mine will be when it arrives
It's because with tankformers It's hard to have the actual treads work (depending on the transformation), so they use fake wheels so you can still roll it
@@Ryozenflame I assume those are just meant to keep the paint on his chest from scraping by elevating the toy enough above a surface where those fake wheels are the only parts that make contact.
Went all the way to my nearest Smyths the other day to get this guy. Annoyingly they had ALL of wave 4 EXCEPT Tarn. There wasn't even a price marker for him unlike the others. Needless to say i was frustrated but at least i'd found Galaxy Shuttle in GAME a hour beforehand for £25.
Where can you get the MMC Kultur, or this? I would like to have that figure and the Walmart multi pack figure as coleaders of perfect Decepticons, which will be represented by this figure.
I wonder if this is because of his popularity he's got from the comics. The DJD were EVIL, even by Decepticon standards, in non-kid friendly way and I'd be surprised if H do any other figures from that group.
this Tarn was obviously reverse engineered from the MMC R-19 Kultur piece back in the 2017. same build, same "slim"-ness.. heck, when the video started i thought "Kultur made by Hasbro"

If I remember correctly, he was just a head shorter than Megatron.

I know what you mean with the feel of the figure. He feels more like a normal action figure than a transformer, do to his proportions.

I think more praise should be put on the fact that Tarn has close to no gaps in the limbs and whatnot, and even those are minimal.
They did say the DJD members will be added, but probably very soon.

Nah. They are saving money and since you can't see the figure there been cases of bad quality control on the toys.

The only figures that have clear plastic in their packages were the Walmart exclusive beasties (Night Prowler, Sky wasp and so on)

Tarn, Shockwave, and Soundwave are by far my favorite transformers.
I expect the upcoming Bludgeon will be remolded from Tarn.

I feel they should’ve remolded the blitzwing mode. Take out the triple changer gimmick and remold the tank mode. The thickness would’ve worked.

Ahh Tarn, started off as a badass, ended up jobbing to megatron just to prop up his face turn, what an absolute waste of a character....standard IDW.

I agree on the alt-mode. It has a real Multimac vibe, which feels jarring and out of place somehow. Not knocking Multimac, though - never.
