Rudy and Paul are the same men at different points on the growth chart. Rudy may have more years under his belt but his growth stopped when he shut himself away. He died as a man child with no real experience in life. He is now growing with the knowledge of his past mistakes which makes him seem like a genius and model Greyratt son. Paul is a man with plenty of real world experience and knows what the pain from the separation from your loved ones via death or other means. Paul is desperate to find his love ones to the point he is punishing himself for every failure he has ever done. Both are trying to live up to some idea of what they believe they are supposed to be but neither knows what that idea really is. Like in the real world the men and boys in this world are told to lock in every emotion and push forward even if you get hurt. This may be ideal for soldiers like myself in times of war, but in every day life this way doesn't work. Real men know that sometimes you need to listen to someone who needs to be heard. It doesn't matter if it is important or trivial. Share your troubles with those that are willing to help you with your struggles and vice versa. That is the most important thing we can do for our family, friends and our homes.
@Ray Martin Thank you for this comment. I really needed something to help me realize that holding back emotions, especially pain, is not healthy. I'll try to remember your "advice". :D
@@FenrirAlter Bro hes older than paul, and based on the disucssions they have. hes more of a father figure to paul then paul is to him. giving him hard truths and lessons to a petulante alcoholic man child. rudy comes off like the superior male figure.
Paul's attitude made no sense at the start, since Rudeus had no clue everyone in his family was teleported elsewhere. I'm under the assumption Rudeus thought it was only him, Eris, & Ghislaine teleported. He should've given Rudeus a chance to explain everything. 🤷🏿♂️
As the guy said Paul thinks Rudy is essentially a true genius and views him as an adult. Also, I don't think he was clearly in the right mental state. The guy was obviously drunk, depressed, very stressed, confused etc.
@@TheRandomMuffinMan Also this happens a lot with parents of "genius" childs, they stop seeing then as childs and get much more rigid, the pressure this gives is a reason why depression on such childrem happens on a highier rate, and as someone who experiencied that same situation it was a very dificult scene to me to watch
careful. making sesne on the internet is beyond taboo. Surely someone like paul, in his adventuring experience, had to have asked where the thing originated right? He had to have known it practically fell damn near on top of the city Rudeus was tutoring in. It's weird he's expecting more from his son, than he's put forth himself. Rudy should know EVERYTHING, but he probably doesn't know the basics of the event, like the starting location, even though he traveled home.
i was informed in discord that the bikini lady had a reallyyyy good explanation for her "armor" being that skimpy. as of ep17, it seems pretty much certain that the backstory of those 2 sisters will also be cut content now. you should've covered it!
I dont think it will be covered, rudy and the dead end stayed in the city for 1 week in the novel, and they even had a dinner with paul to further talk things through and thats the time paul revealed the reason for the bikini armor. but in the anime, they already left the day after rudeues made up with paul lol
I love your takes. Your voice is so calm it fall asleep to your videos. Its a weird take on my end by it dont want to lie. Your takes are balanced and it feels like im listening to an old friend discuss something he honestly loves.
Another thing. There is a reason that girl wears a Bikini Armor. Not sure if it's a spoiler anymore, I think it's past that point now so it's probably cut but read below if you want to know. Her sister (the mage) and her were both teleported and were sexually abused as a result. Her sister being timid was still afraid of men even after being saved so she decided to wear the armor so that people would look at her instead of her sister.
That's probably going to be in his next video about skipped content, it's all stuff that was skipped in episode 17 (The whole Fittoan search and rescue squad, more details about Geese's action, Zenith's family, Eris goblin hunting quest, Ruijerd introduction letter and Dead End's week in Millishion)
This conflict between rudeus and Paul reminded me of my struggles with ADHD and my parents. They weren't accepting of it and assumed because I was smart there was no way I could have it. Just how Paul thought because rudeus was talented with magic he should of surely thought of everything. It gives me a moment to reflect on the struggles I went through and my thoughts go out there to anyone else going through something similar.
you def have add because that is 100% an unrelated tangent unless you were also born into this world with you rpast memories and made a name foryourself by the time you were 8
Added my like, as a fellow ADHD-er. Late diagnoses, when i was already past mid 30's not knowing why i was such a failure. For me, it was difficult for people around me to understand how the very act of living is a struggle for me, when even simple everyday things like chewing your food or brushing your teeth or going to bed could be agonizing for me.
The part where Rudy tries to learn how to fly and badly injures himself, him freezing almost the entirety of the water below the village and killing an entire nest of C class lizards also showed how he was constantly training and trying to better himself. Overall the LN was so good to read giving much more content and explaining why everything happened. Many of the questions I myself didn't ask were answered and it was so satisfying ( for eg: The kidnappers had chosen this specific timing because it was about to be rainy season and the beast clan would be trapped within the forest) The world-building and reasoning are almost flawless. Anyone with time should definitely try reading the LN/WN !
I think it's worth Mentioning the LN and WN are two different versions of the story as the Scene you mention only happened in the Official Web Novels and not the Official Light Novels, I've read both versions at least up to the point in the video and dislike the Light Novels differences in the story because I feel the Web Novel didn't need any changes to it.
It occurred to me that Rudeus only saw Galain, Eris and himself teleported. There was no way he could have known the scale of it all and how many others got teleported too. As far as he knew, Galain was the only one unaccounted for and everyone else was safe at home.

@@alejandrosegato671 I'm gonna suggest you hold off judgement on Paul until the next episode for their 2nd meeting. I don't know if it will have it, but in the novels there's some things that help understand. Also he wasn't saving random people, this entire thing was started by him yo try and find his family. Ruddy is on the bottom of importance because Paul knows he is very capable in magic, so is the most likely to be able to manage on his own. Remember he has 2 wives and a daughter still missing as well. As for nearly dying all paul knows is what ruddy told him, which didn't really capture what he went through
Why wasn't it mentioned that it was heavily implied that the girl Geese taught how to cook was Rudeus's mother? Which explains how Geese knew Paul and likely why he was so secretive around Rudy.
I watched the sub version and had never read the source text so I assumed it was the man god. They both sound nearly the exact same to me and that's all I thought about the whole time and assumed that's why he was such a mysterious character, but I guess the non-explained version is better.
19:20 and onwards, what Paul did is even more impressive given that the Asuran nobility was doing zilch to help out its own people! A real world equivalent would be where the entire population of a rural state in USA gets displaced everywhere in the world and the government isn't stepping in to solve such a huge immigration crisis. In fact, it is escaping from responsibility and leaving it to a village sheriff and the personal assistant of the state governor who are trying to retrieve people from human trafficking underworld(considering USA as the example due to its equivalence to the Asura kingdom in military might and economy).
And then your 12 year old son shows up after two years having been teleported to the Solomon Islands and you immediately start punching him in the face for not saving every single person along the way back because your 12 year old is a genius and should be all-knowing, all-powerful, and should be doing the job of an entire government.. Paul is the dad at a little league baseball game who screams at his kid no matter how well they play.
In the anime, wasnt where the trio were basically ground zero of the mana ray? I think its reasonable for rudeus to have thought that only the three of them were teleported because the first person he saw being teleported was the cat lady while Paul watched it quickly expand to everywhere. Paul also got back to his home before going out to find people. Sure, rudues took his time to get back, but he did the best he could as they needed money and to survive. If he could have sent letters, he should have tho
Great video as always. I do believe you are incorrect on your last analysis though. Rudeus in his past life was a neet, and it was always hinted that he became a neet because he went through some type of traumatic experience in that past life. I havent read the LN just the manga though so I may be wrong, but it was hinted that it wasnt a new emotional trauma but rather his same fear for others not accepting him and rejecting him as part of society. That was my understanding from the manga at least.
Yeah Even in our modern and more peaceful world if an accident like that happened there would be a lot of death and misery You can be teleported in the sea and you will just drown You can be teleported at high altitude and just fall to death or choke You can be teleported to an active war zone Hell even if you get teleported to a sorta modern country, you may not speak the language, most likely Don't have any money, any relative there, and in those cases you better pray countries take measures Hell even if you are not teleported you can still be affected: what if some criminal from another country gets teleported into your house? What if a whole building gets teleported in your school? An accident like that happening in the modern world would be less deadly, maybe but it would still have the potential to be hell and tragedy for a lot of people
Ngl I prefer Eris's reaction in the manga better, it was so much more wholesome and a good development for her as a character. Also shows the vulnerability of Rudy who before then was always collected, he finally allowed himself to break down in front of a person he loves. He couldn't maintain his facade and was afraid that Eris would be worried, but in the end she still embraced him
Man every lights going green for me to pick up the Light Novel but my lazy ass won't start. loved this one a lot, especially the ending part brought me to tears.
No matter how old he is, Rudy was definitely looking forward to hearing his father say he was proud of him there. To hear that he was actually disappointed had to be absolutely fucking devastating.
I’d like to know how you always come in with the cut content, do you read all these manga/light novel or just a lot of research when you come across the topic you want tot all about. Love this channel
In this case it's a mix of light/web novel and manga, since some events are unique to one or the other, such as Dallis the smuggler (who only exists to facilitate the original smuggling in the novels and is never named). The manga is only roughly now 1 season anime season ahead, so there won't be much to pull from soon on that front.
@@Rakkakaze the Anime is actually adapting the Light Novels but the Original story is the Web Novels before Editors got ahold of it and most likely forced some changes tot he story. There were some amazing scenes cut from both the Anime and Light Novels, I also dislike how the Anime opening is a way for them to show stuff but it's mostly just still images with little animation covering what actually does require some detail and explanation, During his journey from Roxy's village to the next town where they meet the horse headed dude Rudeus actually displays how strong his magic is on monsters with his rock cannon which completely Obliterates a monster Eris was about to attack, this was cut from the anime and glossed over with the opening, yes it's a beautiful way to open an anime but I hate that it spits on the story like that. This is a series that excels at world building so skipping over and rushing things is actually hurting it more than helping it.
in case people didn't get it, the one Geese taught to cook was Zeinth, and she ended up winning Paul's heart and they got married, breaking up their S Rank Party (The black wolf's fangs)

So that's what made him vomit. Good to know. Now it doesn't feel like he's gone through worse. The way it was shown in the anime left me feeling like it was uncharacteristic of Rudi to be so shaken by what happened tbh.
I saw this video posted in the morning but had to wait until now to watch it, also de last episode of moshoku tensei was so good I devoured every last minute of it
The manga made this reunion feel alot more heavy hearted than the anime. Dont know which was better tbh. Day 14 of asking for a grand assassin hassan servant review
It's because the manga is based on web novel, while the light novel comes later. Manga : based on web novel Anime : based on light novel That's why there's some differences, especially on 1 arc in particular. Edit: it's basically like that Arifureta differences between anime and manga with that spoon or gun episode.
This reunion was so well done man. I understand both sides in the fight and the anime did a wonderful job with the resolution. I'm excited for Rudy to find the rest of his family.
It wouldn't make sense for him to be the legendary hero... Yet. Makes me wonder if he will be a gandalf-esque character in 100 years and be a part of the heros party. Who am I joking. This be isekai, he is probably a god in 100 years at this pace.
He had to go to that place. It's literally explained why. Roxy wanted him to go there when he got older. People tend to forget about that since it was so far back in the story. Not only that his time at this place is helping him learn new stuff from moves to skills that will help him later on in his life. That's why people need to have more patience. Because it will be explained at some point and time. Also rudy is the type to think and not rush things too much. Because it literally won't help his mother in him rushing things in general.
@@digivagrant the anime is adapting volume 5 right now but i recommend you to start from volume 1 because there are a lot of explanations and POVs/extra chapters that the anime skipped. You also need to read the extra chapter in volume 3 to understand the other extra chapters in volumes 4-7. Btw the manga skipped the whole volume 7
Rudy apologizing to his loser dad the next day turned me off of this pretty hard. He did absolutely NOTHING wrong. I eventually went back to it, but coupled with forgiving his grandmother later, peak bad writing.

For me, Episode 5 and 6 is... a bit of a disappointment. Sure, It's not bad... It just... It's could be better... way better... When I read the Novel, This was one of the most emotional scenes in the volume. My tears won't stop coming as I read from the point where Rudy looks at Paul's face and realize what's going on through to when Rudy steeled himself and make the move to mending their relationship before it fell apart and broken beyond repair. Later on when get my hand on the Manga and revisit this scene again, Even though some of the details were cut off the drawing was good and the entire sequence was done so well I flip it back and re-read it again and again. Because of that... And from the way the anime was doing a somewhat pretty good adapting the series so far, I'm been looking forward to seeing this scene animated with voice acting and music in its full glory... But It seems my expectation was too high... They're rushing it too much... At first, I thought that with lots of details with Eris Ruijerd and Geese already cut out they're going to dedicate the whole episode to the "Gut-wrenching to Heart-warming Father and Son's Conflict and Reconciliation". But, No... They just speed through it! And they didn't stop there, They even pull out yet another skip! They jump over many details that at the very least could be shown as a quick slide of events and went straight to the Rudy and Paul's going separate ways. No other characters' side stories, No next step planning, No father and son brief happy moment, No Rudy try befriending Norn... Look... I understand that this is an anime, They have a budget to work with so they can't very well put every bit of details in. But with a ton of stuff and details already got cut out, They could have given us a good episode that hit us right in the feel. But no... Instead of that, They're cramming "The reunion, The fight, The making up, The afterward, and The parting" ...All the supposed emotional stuff into just an episode and a half... In my opinion, They just ruined the episode that has the potential of being one of the most memorable moments of the series! Sigh... To see a good streak of a job well done come to an end at the very moment we get to the good part... It's kinda sad...
While it might look like they're rushing it to you, I've read comments from a LOT of people saying that the pacing is very slow and complaining so I guess they are trying to be in the middle to try to please everyone
@@AbhijeetSingh-xr2ex Sorry, I don't want to sound rude but... I doubt that those who complain that the pacing is very slow are "genuinely" watching the series for what it's worth. This is not some mindless action flick with monsters and magic. It's the story about a boy who starts off as a (somewhat) nobody and went on to be one of the people who will have their hands in shaping the fate of this Fantasy World... You need to be invested in as many details of each character, the world, and its lore in order to truly appreciate and enjoy this kind of story. As you can see from many videos explaining the cut content in this channel, They already cut out so many details from the original source included many stuff that has a significant story in them and even some that have hints and important references for future episodes. So anyone who complains that the "pacing is very slow" even with all these many contents cut off is either (as I said) not "genuinely" watching the series... or they just haven't realized that this is not the kind of show that made for them. And to the your last point (whether that's the case or not)... I think that approach is such a wrong way for any kind of content makers in making a show. It will not take long before those who don't like the show or those who didn't care that much about the show and just watch it without much thought (or even glance through it) to forget about it while those who truly enjoy the series (both newcomers and long time fans of the original source) will have the show stuck with them and then they'll start recommending and try getting other people to see. That is why I strongly believe that The showmakers should do as much as they can to please the fans who will be the ones that spread the good words about the show and attract more people to the series instead of trying to gain some attention of those who don't care much about it and won't be sticking around at the cost of disappointing (which could end up losing) the fans.
Paul was an absolute ass in the Anime. I remember vividly wishing for Rudeus to beat his ass so bad. The way Paul acts towards his own son and accuse him of slacking. What? Your own 11 yr old son, surviving a trip from the demon continent isn't enough? It toke him 2 years to come back, what a shit father and shit welcome. But then again, Paul have shown his unwillingness to listen to reason before getting angry multiple times in the series. They might have made up, but honestly I don't think that Rudeus will ever truly forget or forgive Paul for the way he tried to beat his own son after surviving a cataclysmic event and 2 years of struggle.
at that time for rudeus paul is a friend or he considered him as best friend not a father so everything is fine even if he punch him and for paul rudeus is already a man he expects too much from his son and u can't blame paul for that cuz if hitogami didn't interfere the fiest thing rudy would do is to send eris to fittoa region and gather information on what happened in the accident
Tbh I almost dropped the show because of the stupid panty gag at the start, I wasn’t expecting to be blindsided by such a bittersweet ending of last weeks episode
If it makes you feel better, the WN doesn't have that in it. I mean he does put on the panty mask, but he didn't realize they were panties at first, nor did he do the creepy tongue lick/sniff in the WN. animators decided to put that in for some reason.
I hear that genshin impact music also congratulations on being sponsored by genshin impact it’s one of my most favourite games from music to the story then graphics looks great.

When talking about the woman Gese taught to cook and how she got the man she wanted, the voiceover kept it spoiler free but the animation was straight from the manga and anime with the lucky couple

Bro they are nothing alike lol. And paul isnt really even rudy dads

Thank you for this comment. I really needed something to help me realize that holding back emotions, especially pain, is not healthy.
I'll try to remember your "advice". :D

Gotta admit thanks to these videos of yours, you got me into this series and I am quite enjoying the series. So thank you AniNews.
Paul's attitude made no sense at the start, since Rudeus had no clue everyone in his family was teleported elsewhere. I'm under the assumption Rudeus thought it was only him, Eris, & Ghislaine teleported. He should've given Rudeus a chance to explain everything. 🤷🏿♂️
true. but paul thinks rudeus is a genius and perfect
As the guy said Paul thinks Rudy is essentially a true genius and views him as an adult. Also, I don't think he was clearly in the right mental state. The guy was obviously drunk, depressed, very stressed, confused etc.
I think paul is probably drunk
Ill cover it next episode. I didnt want to spoil it if it actually was in episode 17
@@AniNews Thanks for looking out for us.
@@AniNews looking forward to it!
Like Quiet had a "good" reason.
Thanks for clearing that up because I was wondering why she was dressed like that but it all make sense now.💪🏽

It gives me a moment to reflect on the struggles I went through and my thoughts go out there to anyone else going through something similar.
you def have add because that is 100% an unrelated tangent unless you were also born into this world with you rpast memories and made a name foryourself by the time you were 8
That sucks to hear. I hope things are getting better for you!
And if not, things will get better! :D
not relevant, Paul thinks Rudeus is a perfect genius because he became a water saint at age 8, a feat that normally takes mages decades of hard work
@@therodyman700 and? The premise is still similar is it not?
Where can i read the LN?
AniNews putting out this video with the swiftness.
It occurred to me that Rudeus only saw Galain, Eris and himself teleported. There was no way he could have known the scale of it all and how many others got teleported too. As far as he knew, Galain was the only one unaccounted for and everyone else was safe at home.
You're fantastic with your coverage of these series I hold so dearly to my heart.
Today's episode made me cry, especially.

My novel reading friend tells me we have missed quite a lot of important things from the novel like Eris and Goblin Hunting or Eris getting a black dress and going to dinner with Rudy and Norn
Also, my friend told me a bit about those two girls with Paul... man... that poor mage :( also explains why the bikini warrior wears what she does

Eris goblin hunting might be a ova.

Because some things are left to the watcher to figure out.

The asuran kingdom even put all the blame on a victim, not giving a iota of fuck about their citizens

@@Meta-Drew yeah, can't disagree with the fact that he fucked that up.
I love this channel, it feels like an extra episode of the anime to watch
In the anime, wasnt where the trio were basically ground zero of the mana ray? I think its reasonable for rudeus to have thought that only the three of them were teleported because the first person he saw being teleported was the cat lady while Paul watched it quickly expand to everywhere. Paul also got back to his home before going out to find people. Sure, rudues took his time to get back, but he did the best he could as they needed money and to survive. If he could have sent letters, he should have tho
Dude thank you so much it really helps to understand some missing things in anime even though anime was pretty good at showing most of story moments
That was my understanding from the manga at least.
you make the best cut content omg
*the realization of the video the end had shook me that : "yes the people teleported are really fucked and a lot could be dead as that girl grandpa"*
Yeah
Even in our modern and more peaceful world if an accident like that happened there would be a lot of death and misery
You can be teleported in the sea and you will just drown
You can be teleported at high altitude and just fall to death or choke
You can be teleported to an active war zone
Hell even if you get teleported to a sorta modern country, you may not speak the language, most likely Don't have any money, any relative there, and in those cases you better pray countries take measures
Hell even if you are not teleported you can still be affected: what if some criminal from another country gets teleported into your house? What if a whole building gets teleported in your school?
An accident like that happening in the modern world would be less deadly, maybe but it would still have the potential to be hell and tragedy for a lot of people
The way you talk about the content is always refreshing and spot on 👌
Ngl I prefer Eris's reaction in the manga better, it was so much more wholesome and a good development for her as a character. Also shows the vulnerability of Rudy who before then was always collected, he finally allowed himself to break down in front of a person he loves. He couldn't maintain his facade and was afraid that Eris would be worried, but in the end she still embraced him

The part about monument didn't seem right to me. Are you sure you sure about Dragon God? I think he only appeared 100 years ago

A good advise in general is to not compare MT with those generic power fantasy isekais.
I love how you use Genshin Impact soundtrack and how well it fits
Funny how I liked this arc then immediately dropped the manga after he went off to do something that isn't FINDING HIS MOTHER.
Almost like the manga routinely messes up essential characterization
He had to go to that place. It's literally explained why. Roxy wanted him to go there when he got older. People tend to forget about that since it was so far back in the story. Not only that his time at this place is helping him learn new stuff from moves to skills that will help him later on in his life. That's why people need to have more patience. Because it will be explained at some point and time. Also rudy is the type to think and not rush things too much. Because it literally won't help his mother in him rushing things in general.
The manga skipped the whole volume where he was becoming famous to find his mother
@@fluffles1782 You know what... I'll just skim the LN in Book Walker. Which Volume do I go to where Rudeus met up with Paul?

Rudy apologizing to his loser dad the next day turned me off of this pretty hard. He did absolutely NOTHING wrong. I eventually went back to it, but coupled with forgiving his grandmother later, peak bad writing.
they're both wrong paul is expecting too much to his son well we can't blame him cuz rudy is a capabale and genius man if hitogami didn't interfere the first thing rudy will do is to send eris to fittoa region while gathering information about mana disaster while in da demon continent
another amazing video!!!
Maybe it's just because I read the manga a long time ago, but I prefer the anime's version of this encounter
19:18 you can see syphie standing wearing glasses
I am so blind when i saw the episode did not realize we can see Sylphy in the balcony with the nobles as a guard (19:18 of this video)
Ah, Genshin I see. My response?
Tower of Fantasy.
