- Is this Weapon GOOD or BAD in Splatoon 3? The newly released Custom Jet Squelcher that arrived in Splatoon 3 Fresh Season has had mixed opinions compared to its older cousins from previous Splatoon games.
In Splatoon 3 it has Toxic Mist and Ink storm which is some what reminiscent to Splatoon 2 but not all the way.
In this video i use the Custom Jet Squelcher in to Top 500 X Battles to see how well i can climb the Splatoon 3 ranks in Season 3.

This jet squelcher is the healthiest for the game IMO. It can't spam special with the storm while it's still a backline fit, and mist is a decent fit on it too. As long as a third kit is not burst + missiles jet's in a healthy spot
I was thinking the exact same thing. If Toxic Mist was actually good this would a textbook example of a well-designed weapon
@@xraenon1664 Toxic mist definitely has potential to be buffed somewhat, idk how long it will take but it feels inevitable.
I feel like burst would be okay with kraken for a third kit but it'd have to be 200p, but yeah no missiles or killer wail 5.1 plz
Burst Bombs were fine on it in Splat 1 at least, the only issue with the weapon in Splat 2 wasn't the weapon itself but the specials being broken and not fun to play against.
That said, I'm happy one of my favorite weapons in the series actually has a usable kit in Splat 3. I do wish Toxic Mist got buffed a bit in later patches.
See, i sorta agree with this but with this being added in the same update as kraken, a special that is literally the most toxic thing ever in 2/4 ranked modes.... yea, i want my stingray back.

Honestly it’s pretty great for Tower Control and Zones and I just love Ink Storm
Yeah ink storm is so versatile and just works so well with the main weapon
Ultimately, what makes a weapon mediocre in this game is whether or not it can consistently solo carry. With solo-queue being a thing, either YOU win the game, or your whole team loses. A good solo-queue weapon is one that enables both you and your team without relying on the rest of your comp.
That’s why, even as an extremely cracked eliter player, season reset is pain. Once into upper levels of X rank again people regain understanding of the game and enable anchors to play anchor.
I'm glad you brought up eliter, because I don't think there's a single person that would disagree that it's one of the best weapons in the game. But it definitely needs coordination to shine, and silent coordination can be very hard to come by at times. While being an amazing weapon, it's a real struggle to solo carry with.
i gotta say this is a problem with alot of team comps. like they leave the objective to backliners or midliners and focus solely on kills and dont try to aid us at all 😭
Too many people who play Splatoon think it is just about getting kills and don't even bother with the objective. It makes the game un-fun.
I really like the CJS personally. The Ink Storm softening up targets for a 2 or 3 shot with the weapon makes a huge difference.
I've been a Jet Squelcher main since Splatoon 2 and I love this new kit, solely for the play style. I think most people don't like it because it's not great at up close combat as opposed to a splash-o-matic or something. Its long range coupled with the mist that keeps people back and the chip-damage ink storm makes an amazing defense weapon. That's exactly how I play, I prefer to be backup and keep the area clear for the offense. You say it's only good at helping other people and you're absolutely right, you can keep inking from far away so no one can reach you, and you can also serve as a limitless beakon for your teammates to get right back into battle.
having fallen in love with vjet in s2 before missiles got buffed to the spamming mess it became, I love how supportive you can be for your team with every part of the kit; plus 10 frames of storm is enough to combo into a 3hko jet, so its pretty fun with a team you can rely on
That’s the part I like about it. Jet Squelcher with ink storm is a perfect match for damage and synergy, and mist while slightly weak is at least a good fit
Twinkle snow act theme? Pog dude!! I just recently finished getting the badge for the standard Jet squelcher, love using the weapon, I think if they was to increase the bullet velocity or even to the T of it’s range, just a wee bit, that’ll help!
Dam I feel like the jet squelcher took a massive hit in this game. Back in splatoon 2 they were one of the better shooters and also my personal favourite shooter. It sad to see them get mediocre kits.
It’s more like a necessary downside because of Splatoon 2 AWFUL meta.

@@infinityheart_tm9270 I would actually say it’s more to do with the kit. Because I forgot about jet squelchers in splatoon one and they had pretty good sets too especially the custom variant.
Splatoon 3 just haven’t given jet squelcher much to work with, the first kit got angle shooter which at the moment is just a mark of wasted potential, and this custom kit is more supportive but I always imagined the jet squelcher to be more a suppressor type weapon so toxic mist does make since but I feel like something like wave maker or trizooka would fit better than ink storm.
This bad boy feels a lot better then the Vanilla Jet kit, I feel like I Can do something with the mist and rain
I think that the weapon by itself is medicore and can't do a lot on it's own, but using it purely as support for whatever your comp is makes this weapon what it is for both this kit and regular Jet Squelcher with Ink Vac. In the long run, it's not the greatest, but can definitely help the players around it
Edit: The one thing that I do dislike about Jet is that velocity of the bullets is so bad. If they up the speed just a tiny bit, the weapon would benefit from it greatly imo
Was my fav in S2 and still one of my favs. The kit in S3 suits it very well IMO.
I adore this weapon. The kit makes so much sense to me and it works with my play style. Toxic mist has great synergy. Rain to me fits backlines like Jet really well to control where you want to push opponents away from. This is a good denial/slow down and support weapon imo!
Could not agree more jet in S3 is so heavily reliant on the function of the team. Both kits force you to play so passively and defensively, with limited options to holding any objective as an anchor. I hate to say it but these kits just don’t do anything beside existing on the field. Jet as a weapon is fun but the kit bogs it down a lot. I do not lie when I say I’ve lost many matches to last minute pushes I simply could not hold as a jet.
I really hopped for burst bomb jet squelcher with kraken, but this kit is not bad at all, just as the normal squelcher, fills more of a support role to give that extra damage and painting teamates need (with so many krakens around maybe ink vac jet squelcher is more viable now)
As a Stringer main who loves Jet Squelcher (And mained it back in S1), the Custom Jet kit feels exceedingly natural to me- it's basically the shooter version of Tri-Stringer in my brain. Personally, I quite like the supportive kit- although I do hope its eventual third kit gets Burst Bombs, maybe even Burst/Kraken.
It was fun to be there to watch, and I think you did the best you could to make it work, which was entertaining!
Jet could do with a couple small buffs, it suffers without mpu

Not gonna lie, I've never used this weapon before, but I've been going hard with this weapon seeing kraken getting so much use. Like you mentioned the disrupt is great for it with to stall. Ink storm is decent. Kraken would def be better. Overall I got a new weapon to play.
I think they should make the mist do chip damage, so the sub is more reliable when fighting.
honestly, just finding its one of those weapons where you have to be super patient and positioned well, it has the range to be played so oppressively and the toxic mist can manipulate enemy movement so you can get those cheeky positions

Honestly, it’s ok. The kit itself I think would make another better, but in terms of shooters, I don’t think Jet was the best choice for it. But considering that how powerful the custom variant in past games have been, it’s really looking like Jet mains are getting the short end of the stick. But I’ll still play the jets and continue to have fun. Great vid dude

Haven't watched the video yet, but I mained the vanilla jet squelcher in Splatoon 2, so i am so very happy to have it back here. I think Rain is much healthier on it than Missiles were, although I wouldn't have minded getting Super Chump on it
The kit of the vanilla in 3 was absolutely garbage, imo. And was just...not very fun to play with.
Is this custom kit the best we could have gotten? definitely not. But it's decent, and I definitely like it than I lot of people probably do, if I had to guess.
what gear would you recommend for this weapon? (again, haven't watched the video yet, so if you went over it in there, apologies lol)
There are classes of weapons, I feel, where the kits work better in a competitive environment like tournaments when you can talk with your teammates, but in solo queue do not work well. Especially in cases like X Rank where your team changes whether you win or lose. This weapon feels like one of them.

its like playing support in solo in splat 3 in general. you just can't get shit done if your teammates are always dead
I loved Jet back in 2, both kits. I didn’t lean into the special spammy play style because I find it boring, I just liked the range. Seeing if get mid kits in 3 is annoying, but I’m used to it as an Undercover main.

I feel like if they buffed angle shooter to have a larger hitbox we could see more Vjet as it would gain a combo similar to what it had in the past with burst bomb
I've had the same thoughts about needing a litle bit more range when trying Splatoon 3 Squiffer for the first time. I think tht's because we're spoiled by the effect of MPU in Splatoon 2.
Personally, I like both kits so far. Am I a masochist for liking angle shit? Maybe?? But I personally like the skill ceiling using it. Mist has a lot of applications for me. storm is just for resetting ink tank. I only don't like vacuum and I want them to buff it.
5:56 7:43 Theres a lot of videos talking about stage design and weapon balance in Splatoon 3... but I think we need to talk more about matchmaking. It's a real problem and I think we need to be more vocal about it, if we are specting to see it improve some day.

I want to try and design a long range gear kit with respawn punisher to run splatchargers, some splatlings, and custom jet, so I'm excited to get some use out of this weapon.
i think when third kits start coming out we'll get one with burst and kraken as this game seems to love bringing back splat1 stuff

I love Ink Storm, but I think Reef Slider would have synergized SOOO well with both the Main and Sub: Reef Slider can help chase down weakened opponents (Jet is notorious for that lol), or counter opponents who are closing the distance. Also, we have yet to see a Kit with Toxic Mist + Reef, but man wouldn't that be a great combo?

I personally wanted both kraken and burst bomb however missiles and disrupter was good in two and I like that kit. I believe it is acceptable in this entry.
I just like the idea of a power washer flooding areas in poison. May pick it up solely because of that (and because I am garbage at Sploosh NEO how do you use Killer Wail 5.1)
Your experience with this weapon has been my life on tri stringer. Its phenomenal support, but on its own it struggles. Ive had so many games with those gotta go deep and ignore the zone peeps and just get bodied by the other teams flankers. When I got the folks that do the objective, the lockdown gets real. Had a game in rainmaker where we got the lead, but they rain maker dced right before they dunked it (hell it only counted a progress of 25), and with the help of a nzap89 and splatana we just simply denied the opposing team an inch.
Both these weapons are very team dependent. I don't mind this, I'm used to it, but i can see why it's not gonna sit well with others.
Also, mist, rain and mist again, let the area of rain suffer :P

I've been using the Jet Squelcher for a day now and with some tight ink management, I can get out 4 toxic mist during ink storm with 3 of them overlapping- I wouldn't want to face me online honestly 😭
i rly love this thing but i think it should’ve either had super chump or kept it’s burst bomb. mist rly drags it down. i do like rain on it tho!!
cjet in this game made me pick up jet again, a weapon i havent played since like early splatoon 2

I love mist on Jet. Cloud is a bit hard to farm with the inefficiencies of the weapon, but I find tenacity helps a lot as I don't die often.
6:04 yep. i feel this so much. like i will go ranked and go hard myself.. but because the enemy team is overall more competent than my team it just feels like even tho i know more of what i'm doing and get those kills it's really just not enough no matter what i do or what weapon i pick because my own team just is completely out of their league compared to what we're up against. it's extremely frustrating and just really takes away the joy from ranked.. (i used to play it quite a bit in splatoon 2 and enjoyed it greatly. but because i now only end up with monkeys on my team and competent players against me i just cannot progress for the life of me. cuz no matter what i do no matter how hard i go. it's not possible to carry an entire team that either doesn't go for objective or just dies because they like eating bombs)
I'd like Toxic Mist to be a tad stronger of an option but I think Jet is comfortable in this game compared to the carry it was in S2.
On some maps i can get a decent level of map control with CJS, it does tend to struggle when more than one person rushes you

I once went against a double Cjet comp on Mincemeat Zones. They were just spraying the zone the entire game, farming Storm, and there was little we could do about it. 😭
the previous jet squelcher in splatoon 2 had like a splatbomb and another special, and the 1st one in this game (splatoon 3) could barely make me move anywhere, but with the new version, i can move freely. but the thing is, it runs out of ink extremely quickly and it has toxic mist which makes it worse. it’s not a bad weapon in my opinion, it’s really decent but if nintendo brought back the old one with the splat bomb, fixed the ink running out fastly, and its toxic mist then I’d feel really great. but besides that. it’s really an amazing one.

@@lokiisles Its kits Splatoon 2 were Toxic Mist/Tenta Missiles and Burst Bomb/Stingray. Jet never had a Splat Bomb as a sub.
@Ace I could’ve sworn it had splat bomb. I think its cause how im addicted to playing splatoon 3 why I might not have remembered it well like back in the days (i still do remember it but i forgot only the sub).

which is exactly what it got in S2 with MPU. Maybe they'll give it that MPU effect by default like they did with other MPU weapons in this game. One can hope.

It just feels like the definition of middle of the road. It's better than the vanilla kit and can be an ok anchor, but on the other hand there's other weapons that can do its job but better rn. A smidge of a damage buff to the bullets could be beneficial ig

I used to play Jet squelcher back in 1 (Burst bonb/kraken combo) but dropped it in 2.
I feel like custom as of now is Mixed, I can agree with that feeling. But considering the other weapons got kraken and super chump, it feels like it got a pretty okay kit this time.
In S2 rainmaker, Squelcher was my favorite since the toxic mist and good range allowed me to completely deny the enemy the ability to move the rainmaker forward through choke points.
Still miss the Dual Squelcher though

This video is a good example of how it feels to be a support/skirmisher in solo queue.
Lots of weapons are map dependant like short range is good on narrow maps while long range does good on wider maps with less cover. Im not really good tho but this works for me kinda.
I like the kit, but the main weapon was always a miss for me. I prefer the "one and done" of a charger or "hold up a minute" splatling. 😁

Never forget the one true custom kit
Besides snipers and splatlings, I know I can outrange most weapons, I like to run respawn punisher with it and act play like an anchor, staying back and keeping people away so my team can work their way in, I also got quick super jump subs incase things get hairy so I can nope outta there, keeps your special going and doesn’t respawn punish you.

Bringing the Kraken back at the same time you bring back the Custom but giving it this kit is insulting.
I actually like the custom's kit. I think the main weapon could use some buffs. higher accuracy and slightly more range. (maybe slightly better painting too)

Instead of toxic mist only taking effect when you’re in it, it needs to have a linger effect

It’s not good or bad, just annoying as hell. Even still, I think it’s just right on the balance scale, even if I get pissed off when I get toxic mist thrown at me while retreating and get gunned down from mid by this thing.
If is crazy how this guy can just shoot his OPPO out of the air. His aim is insane.
God the day Tri-Stringer gets rain it’s gonna be heaven, tho I wish that kit would get toxic mist just to add more salt to the wound but alas tis not to be

The problem with both kits is it doesn't have options. It can only do one thing: hold area. Both the specials and toxic mist just hold area, they don't push forward. Line marker is too hard to use to be useful (and the weapon already has long range, so you can just shoot your target).
Splash has good short range, mid range, and long range with its weapon, sub, and special respectively. Stamper can push a backline with its special + instakill melee. Splattershot's bomb can lock down areas and force opponents into its quick kill time weapon range or its powerful special. Jet Squelcher's kit just doesn't give it any more options than its lukewarm weapon already has.
I use the special to help with a team push and to invade their turf all the time. It can absolutely be used offensively.
This jet is an enabler, not a hard carry. Without a competent push, it can’t do much
