That match makes me appreciate how balanced Splatoon 3's meta is in comparison. Yes, it's not perfect, but at least there's variety in the weapons, and people aren't running quad shooters like they were in 2.
@@SALTYTOAD00I think what's more important as a lesson for this is that in S2 overall specials that required getting close or being aggressive were extremely weak or required heavy support to work (such as S2's inkjet using armour to not just die in the air + have more chances to deal with 1 sub bomb defence players), and specials that allowed spamming from a distance were strong. Meanwhile in S3, wail and missiles aren’t that strong and even though crab technically fits the mold, it leaves a lot of skill expression for aggro plays. And while there is room for improvement still on some aggressive specials (reefslider and stamp), we have TSD, zipcaster and more strong aggro specials.
Tbf Jet is one of the few backlines without any charging mechanic as it's just a shooter, while Liter wouldn't work because of the midair charge speed nerf, plus Jet doesn't have that much jump rng to begin with so intensify action would mitigate said rng with just 1 or 2 subs
@@aronspiker72 you only get jump RNG if you actually jump. Things like dropping off ledges or, indeed, zipcasting don't actually change your accuracy. You don't really see it because in their infinite wisdom the only shooter-like with Zips are Tetras and their accuracy without rolling is Aerospray-tier regardless. But on the other hand, Zipcaster Jet would lowkey just be easymode Zipcaster Stamper.
Another fake backline is the vWellstring, I find that as well as it can be used as a backline its also possible to use it aggro with its kit and the surprising ease with oneshotting.

Custom douser dualies are my dream weapon. Being able to play passive and helpful while also being aggressive if needed. Having a long range special and everything, I played hero dualies in S2 and it’s similar, probably not in actual play style, but still.

Tent is arguably top tier, and consistently so ever since its shield was buffed to launch quicker way back in 2. Even when it doesn't have kits, it just does what nothing else does.

And I hope we get a Jet with Bubble or Inkjet, that sounds so fun to me!
While it would be nice to have a splat 1 jet squelcher kit, I’m personally a big fan of cjet. People hate on mist bc it’s not that good, but the thing is that it’s actually very good on the right weapons. Cjet is just straight up area denial, and mist helps you take fights that you might not be sure that you’d win. Storm also pairs well with it, as jet is ink hungry and storm not only provides a free tank refill but also allows jet to combo with it and control space even better. The weapon may not be considered very good, but as a splat 2 vjet player, damn is the kit fun. Would def recommend giving cjet a shot 👍 Nah but screw splat 3 vjet I hate angle shooter and vac forces you into bad situations boo I don’t like that weapon (I 4 star-ed it) 😡
Its hilarious you just posted this because I was squelch dualie main and just unlocked dousers and actually tested them and was then so fucking confused why squelchers even exist (though the jumping and moving after shooting is very cool)
i never really realised how fun dousers were to play until it got its 2nd kit, i zoned-out and 3-stared it on day 1 in one sitting just learning how to use it with its new kit and it felt so fun to use, being able to mix poking at a distance and getting quick close-up kills
CDousers should've had Inkjet. Tri-Strike might be good for comp in it's own way, but I feel like Inkjet would've enabled this weapon to play way more aggressively.
I absolutely agree with the paint issue for Douser Dualies. Most Douser builds have Special Charge Up just because the paint on the weapon is pretty bad, and it has a 200p Special for both kits.
Although I love the idea of zipcaster in place of kraken I would just want burst kraken back because I just have a bit of a bias for kraken but if we got zipcaster I would not complain 😂
This beginning about roles is something I always talk about We have 4 Roles and not 5, we have Anchors, Supports, Slayers and Skirmishers and EVERYONE NEEDS TO PLAY FLEX
For those that like tri strike as a special, you can delete anything in a line ahead of you if you do this: first beacon goes in a high arc, next is a few degrees lower, and the last one even lower. This in theory will have all 3 land at the same time which will force anything there to move or die.
I'm not a comp player by any means but i have come to love jet squelcher and even marker somewhat. Base jet squelcher is my main in 3 and i love it so much.
I don't know what they can do with dart. If you reduce the ink, then it becomes spam at charger range, if you increase the damage, then it's a frame 1 bomb. It needs to be more impactful outside of a direct hit.
I think the best designed jet squelcher kits would be the kits it already has. Dart has combos and gives away enemy locations for your team, vac is an aggressive support special with playmaking potential, mist doesn't paint for special and requires a follow-up to get value and Rain has a cooldown and lets you push in with your team. This weapon has 2 perfectly designed kits and everyone hates them
I wouldn't say that Marker is just a weaker Burst. I mean, in most cases it is (compensated by the fact that all but one Marker weapons love any chip damage), but for Jet in particular (and also RBPD) it's arguably better than Burst, because it can hit at long range uninvested. Burst Bomb Jet could fight up close on par with small guns and could fight at backline range, but not both at once, while Marker Jet brings immediate frontline firepower to backline range. You used to have to stick pures of Special Power Up to do that, and you didn't even get the immediacy of Marker because Burst is a rather slow projectile. Marker Jet is not just "fake backline", it's outright the best anti-backline in the game- at least as far as main and sub combo goes, because Vac goes completely contary to everything the main stands for. Zipcaster Jet is just... Vanilla Stamper. But even stronger. Funny how that happens.
I actually like Angle Shooter on Jet. Also this video actually made me realize why I like this weapons class, it's not because it's a backline, but because can be an Hybrid, like Heavy Edit and i feel like 96 Gal too
What sucks is that the vjet kit of angle shooter ink vac works great for it conceptually, but the individual parts are so weak that it just feels kinda useless
If we could have custom specials and subs in the game…. I’d still go with Bubbler and whatever other sub for a passive ability, for those who want that. Weapon kits for the game should based on how the weapon itself plays, with the extra kits for theme being balanced, aggressive, or passive depending on if the vanilla kit is balanced, aggressive, or passive. Like the V-shot being aggressive, but the Tenta-shot being more balanced. Maybe having a more aggressive kit on a jet would be good, but considering the weapon plays more passive, a balanced kit would be suited better due to how the main weapon works, and the Douser dualies having a more aggressive kit works better due to how the weapon is made. Custom jet in splatoon 1 was aggressive simply because the sub and special made it that way. The base weapon was still a more passive or balanced play style due to the range, mobility, ink and damage output.
I think if they were to buff dousers standard fire paint by something like 5-8% it would be perfect. As it is now with the slow fire rate it can be a little annoying trying to paint over a specific spot
Jet with zip would oddly be a drem of mine. Then again i have all the zipcaster weapons 4 starred (trying to 5 star them) but jet would be extremely fun to use.
Random splatoon hot take: point sensor is actually useful with specific weapons. Location is really important on modes like tower and rainmaker in lower ranks, especially with sharking and stealth weapons, and Haunt/Thermal ink are not useful. Wave breaker is our only reliable location option besides missiles and maybe something im forgetting, and missiles are non spammable and pretty rare. I see the problems with this, but on weapons that dont need a lethal bomb that can do good damage i can see point sensor actually being viable. (Im no pro i just stay up too late at night)
I still wish they gave it a more interesting special. Tristrike does a similar thing to wail. Something like Kraken or even Screen would have complemented the weapon much better.
I like the new Dousers. I miss the accuracy/consistency and range of my beloved Jet, but Dousers help soften the blow of the current kits. I was always the guy who ran 2 mains of Bomb Range on Cjet to plunk people halfway across the map, so it’s nice to have another weapon of this archetype to scratch that itch for me. As for a 3rd Jet kit, I’ve been wanting to see Burst Bomb and Wave Breaker since this game launched. As new seasons have released, however, I have found a new favorite special that I’d like to see on Jet: Super Chumps. I think Burst Bomb Super Chump Jet Squelcher is a match made in Heaven. The current Jet kits are unfortunate because they actually fit really well with the main weapon. The problem is that, no matter how well they work together, they are weak kits with weak subs and middling specials. If a 3rd Jet kit gets Zipcaster I will literally kms.
Zipcaster would make jet FUN!! I would love to play with that thing, i use E-liter and I dont use jet all that much so zip would make the weapon a lot more fun!!
I do agree with the Dousers being versatile. However, I don't agree with the conclusion that they aren't a backline. I think there's a difference between versatile backlines and false backlines. False backlines are weapons with backline range, but they have a particular set of strengths and weaknesses that make them adapt the playstyle of a mid-line. Several false backlines can even be inefficient when fighting at long range. Some false backlines are Bamboozler, Squeezer, and Splatana Stamper. Versatile backlines are similar, but they have something that tethers them to the role of a backline. I think the singular, unruly dodge-roll tethers the Douser Dualies to the roll of the backline. Now, versatile backlines don't always stick to the role of a backline throughout a match, just like a false backline doesn't always have to play the mid or frontline role throughout a match. They can both adjust for certain scenarios, just kinda in reverse of each other. PS: I think not all anchor weapons are backlines, but all backlines are anchor weapons.
Long been a fan of toxic mist on the jet, but it takes FOREVER to splat with jet in this game. You need to shadow your slayers and offer support to get anything done. If you're playing solo and your slayer is trash, you better put on your big boy pants and get slaying yourself.
I have made a huge Rework of the Splatter Color Screen, and if Chara reads this, please let me know of changes for my idea. Please excuse typing mistakes, i am not english. At first, it won't have the "Gray Effect" anymore. The first change will be that everything that is fired or thrown through it will deal 35% less damage (own and enemy shots or bombs). Screen can no longer be parried, but it also doesn't deal damage. Everyone (except Teammates) who gets hit by it will get one of the following effects, wich all have the same chance. And to not make it too chaotic, the victim gains immunity against Screen for the same duration as the blindness it has now, so it won't be stackable. (I think it's 6 seconds or something) 1. Nothing (immunity against Screen for a short time) 2. It seems like effect 1, but the next 150 points of damage wich aren't dealt to objects can damage Teammates 3. Reduced Swimspeed by 33% 4. Reduced Ink Recovery by 50% 5. The same damage nerf like shooting through it 6. This Effect depends on the weapon type you're using: SHOOTERS get Sploosh accuracy, but higher fire rate (except Aerospray, wich will get lower fire rate). ROLLERS get slower at everything, except Dynamo. CHARGERS charge 30% slower and the maximum damage is 100. (Not Bamboo) SLOSHERS get shorter range, but Bloblobber has only 3 projectiles. SPLATLINGS get a smaller amount of shots for a full charge. DUALIES get a longer end lag after rolls. BRELLAS get less shield HP (except Recycle). BLASTERS get S-Blast long-range explosion Radius. BRUSHES get slower movement speed. STRINGERS get their middle arrow removed. (Except Wellstring, wich gets the outer 2 arrows removed) SPLATANAS get a shorter "slide" (sorry, i don't know how it's called)
Too many words. If your description of how something works for Splatoon resembles the ability description of a cover legendary of a recent Pokemon generation, you're doing it wrong. Splat is a game of simple ideas, everything can be summarized in a couple words, complexity comes from how versatile the few mechanics you are describing can be. This is a shooter, it shoots. This is Splat Bomb, it rolls and has a 1 second fuse. This is Undercover, it has a shotgun and a shield that's held while you are shooting. This is Kraken, it swims freely and is unpleasant to be around. This is Screen, it is opaque, does damage and used to burn your retinas (now it just goes monochrome).

Honestly Jet Squelcher is good. Douser dualies definitely does feel like a better version of Jet, but that’s only because dualies overall are better shooters due to their output and also mobility. As someone who mains Jet and has SLAYED 💅💅💅 in ranked and turf, the thing does need some buff. I don’t want a damage buff, because 32 damage per shot makes my Computer nerd brain activate, but there are still aspects that could be increased. For me it’s range and possibly mobility. Back in splatoon 2, you’d definitely see me run MPU to give the thing more range, and that really helped the weapon tons, like other weapons that had range up for MPU. And I dunno maybe the weapon wouldn’t be too buffed up if they increased the mobility, but considering how damn mobile the Dualie squelchers are… they might need that buff
Ok, hear me out, instead of Zipcaster we can give it Cooler instead? As someone whos been a diehard fan of Cjet in S1 and mained it in S2 solely because if burst bomb, i feel like Cooler would honestly be a healthier pick. Especially with how the meta is right now, it COULD create diversity over Pencil and theoretically can still have that same idea/theory you had in the video. I could be wrong, but i feel like as someone whos been copinv a little too hard for Jetsquelcher for a 3rd kit and if it werent to be burst/kraken, i feel like Cooler would be the 2nd best special for it outside of Zipcaster. I see the vision tho, for sure.

Although I love the idea of zipcaster in place of kraken I would just want burst kraken back because I just have a bit of a bias for kraken but if we got zipcaster I would not complain 😂

We have 4 Roles and not 5, we have Anchors, Supports, Slayers and Skirmishers and EVERYONE NEEDS TO PLAY FLEX
For those that like tri strike as a special, you can delete anything in a line ahead of you if you do this: first beacon goes in a high arc, next is a few degrees lower, and the last one even lower. This in theory will have all 3 land at the same time which will force anything there to move or die.
There is no way jet squelcher will get a third kit.

I'm not a comp player by any means but i have come to love jet squelcher and even marker somewhat. Base jet squelcher is my main in 3 and i love it so much.
Zipcaster on Jet Squelcher would be insane.
I don't know what they can do with dart. If you reduce the ink, then it becomes spam at charger range, if you increase the damage, then it's a frame 1 bomb. It needs to be more impactful outside of a direct hit.
They're probably still gonna do the reference kit, they get off way too much to that for them to do something unique
I think the best designed jet squelcher kits would be the kits it already has. Dart has combos and gives away enemy locations for your team, vac is an aggressive support special with playmaking potential, mist doesn't paint for special and requires a follow-up to get value and Rain has a cooldown and lets you push in with your team. This weapon has 2 perfectly designed kits and everyone hates them
I wouldn't say that Marker is just a weaker Burst. I mean, in most cases it is (compensated by the fact that all but one Marker weapons love any chip damage), but for Jet in particular (and also RBPD) it's arguably better than Burst, because it can hit at long range uninvested. Burst Bomb Jet could fight up close on par with small guns and could fight at backline range, but not both at once, while Marker Jet brings immediate frontline firepower to backline range. You used to have to stick pures of Special Power Up to do that, and you didn't even get the immediacy of Marker because Burst is a rather slow projectile. Marker Jet is not just "fake backline", it's outright the best anti-backline in the game- at least as far as main and sub combo goes, because Vac goes completely contary to everything the main stands for.
Zipcaster Jet is just... Vanilla Stamper. But even stronger. Funny how that happens.
I actually like Angle Shooter on Jet. Also this video actually made me realize why I like this weapons class, it's not because it's a backline, but because can be an Hybrid, like Heavy Edit and i feel like 96 Gal too

What sucks is that the vjet kit of angle shooter ink vac works great for it conceptually, but the individual parts are so weak that it just feels kinda useless
If we could have custom specials and subs in the game…. I’d still go with Bubbler and whatever other sub for a passive ability, for those who want that.
Weapon kits for the game should based on how the weapon itself plays, with the extra kits for theme being balanced, aggressive, or passive depending on if the vanilla kit is balanced, aggressive, or passive.
Like the V-shot being aggressive, but the Tenta-shot being more balanced. Maybe having a more aggressive kit on a jet would be good, but considering the weapon plays more passive, a balanced kit would be suited better due to how the main weapon works, and the Douser dualies having a more aggressive kit works better due to how the weapon is made.
Custom jet in splatoon 1 was aggressive simply because the sub and special made it that way. The base weapon was still a more passive or balanced play style due to the range, mobility, ink and damage output.

I think if they were to buff dousers standard fire paint by something like 5-8% it would be perfect. As it is now with the slow fire rate it can be a little annoying trying to paint over a specific spot
Jet with zip would oddly be a drem of mine. Then again i have all the zipcaster weapons 4 starred (trying to 5 star them) but jet would be extremely fun to use.

Random splatoon hot take: point sensor is actually useful with specific weapons. Location is really important on modes like tower and rainmaker in lower ranks, especially with sharking and stealth weapons, and Haunt/Thermal ink are not useful. Wave breaker is our only reliable location option besides missiles and maybe something im forgetting, and missiles are non spammable and pretty rare. I see the problems with this, but on weapons that dont need a lethal bomb that can do good damage i can see point sensor actually being viable.

Wellstring is midline, you cant change my mind. I only fully charge it when I'm on high ground.
I still wish they gave it a more interesting special. Tristrike does a similar thing to wail. Something like Kraken or even Screen would have complemented the weapon much better.

I like the new Dousers. I miss the accuracy/consistency and range of my beloved Jet, but Dousers help soften the blow of the current kits. I was always the guy who ran 2 mains of Bomb Range on Cjet to plunk people halfway across the map, so it’s nice to have another weapon of this archetype to scratch that itch for me.
As for a 3rd Jet kit, I’ve been wanting to see Burst Bomb and Wave Breaker since this game launched. As new seasons have released, however, I have found a new favorite special that I’d like to see on Jet: Super Chumps. I think Burst Bomb Super Chump Jet Squelcher is a match made in Heaven.
The current Jet kits are unfortunate because they actually fit really well with the main weapon. The problem is that, no matter how well they work together, they are weak kits with weak subs and middling specials.
If a 3rd Jet kit gets Zipcaster I will literally kms.
Zipcaster would make jet FUN!! I would love to play with that thing, i use E-liter and I dont use jet all that much so zip would make the weapon a lot more fun!!
I do agree with the Dousers being versatile. However, I don't agree with the conclusion that they aren't a backline. I think there's a difference between versatile backlines and false backlines. False backlines are weapons with backline range, but they have a particular set of strengths and weaknesses that make them adapt the playstyle of a mid-line. Several false backlines can even be inefficient when fighting at long range. Some false backlines are Bamboozler, Squeezer, and Splatana Stamper. Versatile backlines are similar, but they have something that tethers them to the role of a backline. I think the singular, unruly dodge-roll tethers the Douser Dualies to the roll of the backline. Now, versatile backlines don't always stick to the role of a backline throughout a match, just like a false backline doesn't always have to play the mid or frontline role throughout a match. They can both adjust for certain scenarios, just kinda in reverse of each other.
PS: I think not all anchor weapons are backlines, but all backlines are anchor weapons.

Long been a fan of toxic mist on the jet, but it takes FOREVER to splat with jet in this game. You need to shadow your slayers and offer support to get anything done. If you're playing solo and your slayer is trash, you better put on your big boy pants and get slaying yourself.
I have made a huge Rework of the Splatter Color Screen, and if Chara reads this, please let me know of changes for my idea.

At first, it won't have the "Gray Effect" anymore. The first change will be that everything that is fired or thrown through it will deal 35% less damage (own and enemy shots or bombs). Screen can no longer be parried, but it also doesn't deal damage.
Everyone (except Teammates) who gets hit by it will get one of the following effects, wich all have the same chance. And to not make it too chaotic, the victim gains immunity against Screen for the same duration as the blindness it has now, so it won't be stackable. (I think it's 6 seconds or something)
1. Nothing (immunity against Screen for a short time)
2. It seems like effect 1, but the next 150 points of damage wich aren't dealt to objects can damage Teammates
3. Reduced Swimspeed by 33%
4. Reduced Ink Recovery by 50%
5. The same damage nerf like shooting through it
6. This Effect depends on the weapon type you're using:
SHOOTERS get Sploosh accuracy, but higher fire rate (except Aerospray, wich will get lower fire rate).
ROLLERS get slower at everything, except Dynamo.
CHARGERS charge 30% slower and the maximum damage is 100. (Not Bamboo)
SLOSHERS get shorter range, but Bloblobber has only 3 projectiles.
SPLATLINGS get a smaller amount of shots for a full charge.
DUALIES get a longer end lag after rolls.
BRELLAS get less shield HP (except Recycle).
BLASTERS get S-Blast long-range explosion Radius.
BRUSHES get slower movement speed.
STRINGERS get their middle arrow removed. (Except Wellstring, wich gets the outer 2 arrows removed)
SPLATANAS get a shorter "slide" (sorry, i don't know how it's called)
Too many words. If your description of how something works for Splatoon resembles the ability description of a cover legendary of a recent Pokemon generation, you're doing it wrong. Splat is a game of simple ideas, everything can be summarized in a couple words, complexity comes from how versatile the few mechanics you are describing can be.
This is a shooter, it shoots. This is Splat Bomb, it rolls and has a 1 second fuse. This is Undercover, it has a shotgun and a shield that's held while you are shooting. This is Kraken, it swims freely and is unpleasant to be around. This is Screen, it is opaque, does damage and used to burn your retinas (now it just goes monochrome).

Honestly Jet Squelcher is good. Douser dualies definitely does feel like a better version of Jet, but that’s only because dualies overall are better shooters due to their output and also mobility.
As someone who mains Jet and has SLAYED 💅💅💅 in ranked and turf, the thing does need some buff. I don’t want a damage buff, because 32 damage per shot makes my Computer nerd brain activate, but there are still aspects that could be increased.
For me it’s range and possibly mobility. Back in splatoon 2, you’d definitely see me run MPU to give the thing more range, and that really helped the weapon tons, like other weapons that had range up for MPU. And I dunno maybe the weapon wouldn’t be too buffed up if they increased the mobility, but considering how damn mobile the Dualie squelchers are… they might need that buff
Ok, hear me out, instead of Zipcaster we can give it Cooler instead? As someone whos been a diehard fan of Cjet in S1 and mained it in S2 solely because if burst bomb, i feel like Cooler would honestly be a healthier pick. Especially with how the meta is right now, it COULD create diversity over Pencil and theoretically can still have that same idea/theory you had in the video. I could be wrong, but i feel like as someone whos been copinv a little too hard for Jetsquelcher for a 3rd kit and if it werent to be burst/kraken, i feel like Cooler would be the 2nd best special for it outside of Zipcaster. I see the vision tho, for sure.
