Just remember that it’s in intervals of 15s. It’s gauranteed til 4:30, then for each splat or assist it moves to the next. 4:15, 4:00, 3:45, 3:30, 3:15, 3:00, 2:45, 2:30, 2:15, 2:00, 1:45, 1:30, 1:15, 1:00, 0.75, 0:50, 0:25, 0:00. If you get 18 splats without letting these intervals pass, you will have it all game long.
It would be nice if we could reactivate OG if you make the kills/assists needed for that time in the game, example, if you don’t make any kills/assist the first 30 seconds of the game the ability turns off but at the minute 4:00 you make a quad, it would add all the seconds of the kills (15x4=60 seconds) and then OG would reactivate until minute 3:30 (and you can still add more time doing kills/assists), that would make the ability less frustrating to use and more fair without making it too strong or unfair, you can reactivate OG at anytime only if your kills/assists adds the necessary seconds to match the time of the game you’re at, but I doubt the developers will ever touch OG again so we can only dream
1 simple patch took Opening Gambit from my least favorite ability to my most favorite ability. I cannot believe the world we’re living in but it’s so much fun.
10:52 it does go very well with wiper, with rainmaker being the best example of it. I've been using opening gambit wiper since day 1 of the buff, and it's so much fun. Qr pairs really well with OG, making it so you spend less of your precious OG time respawning and more time fighting. It doesn't work all the time, but it's always fun
It is so satisfying to just turn into a mass shooter when you have opening gambit. Once you’re going you can’t be stopped. Like a monster that gets stronger with the death of its prey
This weapon does not get actual splats itself, but it makes up for it with map/enemy awareness and assists in spades. A main or 2 subs of sub weapon up, mix of swim speed and run speed so you always have a little at least and you will be taking names in no time. It honestly is a pretty fun weapon to play, just a bit gear dependent is all.
@@abra_escaped I only need gambit to get me where I’m going. I usually get first splat anyway so that extends it. I’m not a pro or expert by any means so meta doesn’t matter to me. I use what suits my playstyle. And since I’m hiding a lot, movement abilities only matter when there’s nothing hindering me from moving i.e. the start of the battle.
I gotta try that sometime! I used to main Hydra in Splat2n, but dropped it in 3 'cause I felt that I could use a change of pace in all the other Weapons.
I’ve used it with ninja swim on slayers. You move so fast that you are really a Ninja. The only problem is if people camp heavily in the beginning. It is very hard to get it started. It makes me wish the initial timer was 45 seconds or a min. So many times I would barely miss the kill needed to keep it.
@@purpledefaultpfp6233 not really. In higher level play people play a lot safer and don't risk fights they can't win. Especially in the opening of a match. Opening gambit can be really hard to get started when that happens because I've seen it take longer than 30 seconds for the 1st person to go down in a match plenty of times.
Highly recommend Nautilus with OG if you haven't tried it yet! I've been running it as a Naut main and it's super fun! My first game with OG I went 35/7, with 7 of those 35 being point sensor assists (thanks, tiny map that is Mahi RM).
The opening gambit buff is nice, but it's still a race against time when it comes to extending the timer by getting kills. I think that they should replace it with an ability that gives you the same perks for 5-15 seconds after every kill, even if the previous timer had already run out. It would essentially be like the Spy's Big Earner knife from Team Fortress 2, which gives players a three-second speed boost on kill.
I think honestly that's an awesome idea. I don’t think they'd do it, at least not for 3, but it would be a great extra layer to possibilities for QR builds. Run full QR/QR SJ if you wanna cause chaos and get back in, run QR comeback if you wanna give yourself an advantage post respawn, or run QR…splat booster (awful with names sorry, calling it that as a placeholder) if you want to go for the risk reward. THAT BEING SAID, if it was for every kill it would definitely need to be toned down slightly (maybe to 2 mains of everything and not 3 mains), with 10 seconds max that refreshes for every kill.
I know it’s probably a bad idea but I’m gonna run this on my hydra build. I usually get 15 to 20 splats a match and getting in position ,or moving out of danger, much faster would be a plus without having to choose between swim or run speed
I'd love for OPG to be overhauled or something where if you get a kill or assist (in any combination) twice without dying, it activates for 30 seconds and any kill or assist after that it increases by 15 seconds. Completely different ability concept but it's more reliable and potentially way too op probably, especially paired with QR
Splattershot Nova isn't really a slayer tho. In my experience, the real perk to playing Nova is "Oh, hey! It's that new trash can of a Weapon!...Wait, why is my free kill running around the battlefield at 3 Swim Speed Mains an hour?!" I found the Nova-ing Gambit combo entirely on my own, all I remembered was Splat2n letting you get a few more seconds off of an assist. In my first match with this combo, I was running out of Ink because there wasn't enough time to reload between two destinations! I'm kinda sad that everybody's preaching about it now, since it could get nerfed into the floor next update. If _any_ Weapon abuses it, we could see a nerf to OG, and subsequently hurt Nova...
OPG could potentially do REALLY well with Naut due to its Vanilla kit AND the fact that it's a real weapon and not a cheap squirt gun Sheldon stole the rights to
One minor thing.. if the effect ends at all it cannot be reset, so keep getting assists and kills before it runs out. Also, it’s a meme ability even after the buff, it’s 100% not good
2 Quick questions DUDE, when you say you get an extended 15 seconds for each kill or assigned kill A) Does that stack? B) Does it keep extending until the end of the round potentially?
The problem is that with nova it's really easy to get an assist at least in the first 30 seconds, but with a slayer if you die first life without getting a kill that's basically the 30 seconds up by itself.
Yes and no. If you get the kills you become broken. Major issue is that in higher level lobbies the other players camp hard in the begining of the match. Effectively making you have to over extend hard to get kills, which leads to you more than likely getting jumped and dying. Wasting the ability. At most unless the other team is not paying attention, you are just going to get a trade and leave your team at a disadvantage. Only for you to have to repeat the cycle of trying to rush in for another kill after spawn. LDE is way easier and more consistent to use.
It depends. From what I have been told, mobility perks aren't super necessary on Tetras because of the way you move with the weapon, and you should stick with either Comeback or Last Ditch. But if you want to try and feed very early and running lots of QR, any one kill can get you going. It depends if you feel like the mobility perks are better than the efficiency perks.
As a fellow user of Opening Gambit I can confirm that its very useful But it will be only useful if the user can Murder an innocent player within 30 seconds, if not Your better with last ditch effort
Oh that’s too broken. Everyone will be going super fast, this has to be nerfed or adjusted, I’m sorry Dude but this is going to be a while before this becomes a issue to be addressed.
IF YOU LIKE OPENING GAMBIT THEN YOU WILL ALSO LIKE OPERA GX: mtchm.de/b4zkc
Thats the thing. Ive never used and never will

You got boost power!
i think the only thing opening gambit needs now is a timer somewhere that tells you how much opening gambit time you have left
All it really needs is for the timer font at the top of the screen to be green while active, if you lose it it goes back to white

If the developers boost run speed of Nova again it would honestly be a fun weapon to play
It isn't practical but try 3 pures of run speed. You run as fast shooting as not shooting and it's quite fun.

I’ve been running it on NZap, Nova, and contrary to meta I actually like it on Hydra. It helps me get to my spots quicker on certain maps.
Gambit splatling sounds so cursed but they do love to have runspeed and that leaves more room for other stuff

Litterally went 18-3 last night using this ability for the first time (in splat3 atleast) it’s insanely good on close ranged and short maps
It is OP as hell during Tri Color battle as an attacker

That's true but if it the opening was 1 minute that'd be just plain op PLUS the extension of 15 seconds per assist or kill that's just overkill
