      @@glenhardy4770 Uh, you do realize that if a parent violates their privacy, then the child may end up distrusting them and getting more sneaky to protect themselves, right?
      Going through a child’s stuff behind their back isn’t the only option to protect them online.
      Another and better option is to have a long discussion with them about the dangers and earning their trust to make them talk about something they might encounter on the internet.
      A parent won’t be able to create a “safe space” between them and their child if they choose to violate their privacy.

    The way his face looked when he said the bad guys aren't just coming thru the doors and windows anymore was sad. He knows he's too old to understand how the internet works and that he's defenseless against cyber attacks. It really was about fear. Elliot will always be the most interesting character to me when it comes to his family. When they show Olivia or Rollins' family life it doesn't feel real or authentic. Just feels like they forced it.

    • @aceclover758
      @aceclover758 3 ปีที่แล้ว +84

      The reason for that is unlike Olivia or Rollins, Stabler’s family dynamic is based off a typical, Catholic/Irish family with many children and a more conservative nature.
      By Authetic, you mean Olivia and Rollins do not have a family unit.
      How are they any less authentic? They show different forms of a family:
      Noah is adopted and Olivia’s challenges as a single mother.
      Rollins comes from a broken household and has to move on from that. Her family affected her well into adulthood.

      @@aceclover758 I guess I mean whenever they show episodes with stabler's family, it just seems and feels so real. Like the episode with his mom having bipolar disorder and switching personalities was such a deep episode. And how he has to constantly look after his daughter as well. It just seems more genuine. Nowadays IDK why but it feels like just try to add drama and tension to the current characters but it doesn't feel real or needed. Like rollins' sister is just an annoying character. Olivia with Noah is okay but something about those old episodes with stablers family just seem more raw and real to me.

    • @Andy-nv6ys
      @Andy-nv6ys 3 ปีที่แล้ว +60

      The problem with the stories of Olivia and Rollins as single mothers is that they want to make them look like perfect mothers, that they are always right, etc. On the other hand, with Elliot we saw a father who made many mistakes, had certain prejudices, etc., but the family dynamics were realistic, you could identify with Elliot or with his children.
      It also doesn't help that Oliva and Rollins' childrens don't have much depth of character.

    • @aceclover758
      @aceclover758 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@Andy-nv6ys We see their mistakes and by no reason, are they perfect.
      But scrutinize Rollins more. Olivia is a single mom via adoption, not letting a man pump and dump her.
      She let her son take dancing when he said he disliked baseball.
      Rollins was even called out previous season via by herself in being a bad woman who has an influence of being with men who dont care of her while ignoring decent one.
      I’m glad they called that out because too many times women like Rollins sleeps around and then wonder, how they got pregnant or why no one stays with them.

      I hate this double standard. When I was a kid, my mother told me that as long as I wrote something down on paper she had every right to look at it. When I wrote online journals, my aunt barged into my room and demanded to see it after she snooped and saw that I wrote something about her. My mom took her side and I had to delete everything and then show them my laptop.
      I hate the age old excuse that parents use to justify invading their child's privacy- "it's not you I don't trust, it's the world".
      I hated it then and I hate it now.
      Don't get me wrong, I have the utmost respect for parents. Anyone who can stand being worried 24/7 and to be responsible for another, most of the time uncooperative, human being, hats of to you. Your a rockstar.
      But from a child's perspective. Parents, find new excuses and find a way to protect your children without smothering them.
      You are not doing them any favors by forcing them to live in a protective bubble and then, when their adults, blaming them for being naive and not knowing how to do anything.
      Find a balance.

      @@fg09403 Children need to learn they are not in control of the situation/home. The freedoms and privacy that are given are given
      with the caveat that they can be revoked at any time. The problem over the last few decades, starting around the early 70's,
      parents stopped being parents and became their children's best friends. The hierarchy of authority was lost and so went
      discipline, when parents were more concerned with being their child's equal. So now when a parent has to revoke certain
      privileges or has to encroach on their privacy as in this case, out of fear of influences on the internet, the child or teenager
      all of a sudden thinks they are being treated unfairly and think they can disrespect the parent, revolt etc. The trust you speak
      about comes when the child realizes the parent is doing it for their own safety. If the child DOESN'T realize this, they are being
      selfish and short sighted. Children that were raised knowing the parent has all the authority and that there IS a hierarchy of authority,
      are less likely to respond in the way you mentioned. My children were raised knowing they were subordinate to the parents,
      and any privileges given were just that, a privilege, NOT a right. They also knew that these privileges, which included privacy, could be taken away for
      a variety of reasons: for their safety, because of discipline etc. Right from the beginning I told them, concerning the internet, I reserve the
      right to check on ANYTHING THEY WERE DOING, including emails, seeing what sites they visited etc. I told them if they didn't like it,
      then no internet. They didn't like it, but they were raised to respect the parents and their decisions. Now that they are in their late teens, almost 20,
      they trust me implicitly, as they know now whatever I did, like it or not, was for their safety or benefit.

    I can understand a parent worrying about who their children talk to and associate with, for functioning parents do not want a deviant peer network around their child. However, parents and their children should be open to discuss internet usage and placing parameters on the computer. In addition, there is a difference between worrying and stalking your own child ! That is insane !

    He knows he can’t protect her from everything especially on the internet but he tries what she doesn’t get or appreciate is that throughout his year’s service as a cop he’s seen and done way more than what she’s barely ready to understand!!
    The world is not just in black and white or something you see through rose colored glasses 👓 nor is it a cartoon like MLP bad things happen to people of all ethnicities all over the world all the time!! So much so authorities can barely keep up but they try that’s all they can do!
    None of this was about “trust” it’s about “fear” as a parent, and the internet has over trillions of freaks surfing the web for kids like her or younger everyday per year as they do on the streets!! I’d do the exact same thing if I was her mother and on the force.
