    I appreciate that the actors only look at the deaf woman when talking to her, instead of either of the interpreters (even if it is only a TV show)

      It is still applicable to a deaf person. They communicate through sign language or by being able to read lips. Her not being able to hear physically won't change that.

    • @skrrskrr5386

      @@ladennayoung2939you shouldn't be allowed to tell a deaf person that unless there is an interpreter there. Makes no sense depending on if that deaf person can read lips or not

    After I graduate from Montclair State University, I will be advocating for deaf, hard of hearing people because that interpreter in that scene is the person that I want to become in local areas not just criminal justice such as police officers, everywhere for that matter, you know, courtroom, schools, and other facilities that comes to be a certified ASL Interpreter. That's my future.

    • @milly7843
      @milly7843 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      As an interpreter, myself, I would like to say good luck!
      There are few people who are interested in ASL and even fewer who truly respect the nuanced language that it is.
      I won't sugar-coat it. Learning to interpret is incredibly challenging. It is one thing to be able to hold casual conversations, but it's a whole other ballpark when it comes to interpreting.
      That being said, the gratification you feel once accomplishing such a feat is amazing! I wish you all the best, and who knows! Perhaps one day we could be colleagues, the Deaf Community is small and tight-knit, and that includes interpreters like us!

    Ahh! I absolutely love Marlee Matlin! I'm an ASL Interpreter (peep my pfp lol) and I always get excited when I see ASL in mainstream media, especially when the ASL is accurate. I also love how they always keep their hands in frame, making it easier for Deaf people to see.

      @joaopauloadlergomesdacosta282 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So how accurare was the ASL in this episode? I immagine Ms. Matlin will be using ASL correctly, as a point of pride, but what about the two interperters that appear in the episode?

    • @milly7843
      @milly7843 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @joaopauloadlergomesdacosta282 The interpreters feel genuine, like it is their actual occupation simply based on their presence and overall attire.
      They are 100% accurate with their interpretations, right down to using the first-person when verbally interpreting.
      Like, they aren't saying "she said", they say "I said" because an interpreter is supposed to be as invisible as possible. We are nothing more than a vessel for our Deaf client to communicate through.

    In England I am not sure that this would get to trial as for a prosecution on a charge of assissting a suicide you need the consent of the Attorney - General. It is rarely given in this case if it was done without the doctor being paid then the Attorney General is unlikely to give consent.

Can't you put it in the front and not the back? so it's fair for a deaf person to say something? I'm afraid that's not right for me.

    Im on the fence about assisted suicide but I'm glad its legal were i live now so people can go out in a peaceful way.
    I dont support it for people who are suffering from things like depression but if there in exterem physical pain that can not be helps then I think they should have the right to choose cuz if the are serious about ending there life they will do it no mater what.
    My great grandma is 103 and everyday she says she just wants to die and finally be at peace. Shes super religious so she won't go for assisted suicide but I wouldnt stop her if she did.

      After Christina Nerrit's first attempt failed due to two maids finding her, Solwey feared Nerrit would lose her nerve, and thus promised to bring two syringes of insulin to her hospital room so that they could die together. Nerrit used the syringe and died shortly after. Solwey, however, did not kill herself that day.
      Munch convinces Solwey to plead out so that she can live and get a kidney transplant that she initially refused. She was convicted but released 3 months later due to compassionate release from the state.
