Working on all that underdash stuff can be confusing and tedious. But when your done you know what you have. Following your project helps to keep me going on mine.
Thanks for disassembling the AC box, I am going to restore my 1986 Elcamino and will be doing the same thing. Keep the videos coming. Maybe I should show some while I work on mine.
@@hutchhiperf im doing my ac box as we speak.. Not a full break down like you...but new blower, resistors, evap, heater core..i cleaned the box out and all trash out and little flap...got the butal tape from napa today (smaller size). Foam came on sides of the new heater core (aluminum) ...im going to use some vacume cleaner foam filter for the evap.?#1..WHERE DID YOU GET THE FOAM TO GO AROUND THE EVAPORATOR LINES AND THAT CURVE RIGHT BELOW THE EVAPORATOR LINES..
@@hutchhiperf hey there i finally got done with everything just got to put the Allen grove ac bracket on to mount the sanden compressor ... I ran the purple/ pink vacuum line carb and the gray/white vac line the the heater control valve....( they both were cut) so now i have vacuum ...MY ? TO YOU IS.....IS THE FLAP/DOOR UNDER THE GLOVE BOX SUPPOSE TO CLOSE ON NORMAL & BI LEVEL.....WHEN I TURN IT ON MAX THE DOOR FLIPS UP BUT WHEN I TURN IT ON NORMAL & BI LEVEL IT COMES BACK DOWN......IS IT SUPPOSE TO DO THAT.??? ?.....BLEND DOOR WORKS FINE AND I CAN HEAR THE DOOR OPEN & CLOSE BEHIND THE VENTS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DASH
@@boss94ways51 That's exactly how it's supposed to work. On MAX A/C the heater valve outside cuts circulation of hot coolant to the heater core and that door opens to recirculate cool air from inside the car. This gives the A/C the best chance at making the air at the vents as cold as possible. Anything other than MAX and it closes and draws outside air.
Where can i find that mesh that goes ok the back of the evaporator core ? Mine is all deteriorated. Also where did you get your evaporator core and heater ?
You can use AC "prefilter" foam. You can find it in the hardware store with the other AC window unit stuff. It's an open cell kind of foam. I believe I got most of the parts from Rockauto.
My hvac box cracked at the bottom is there a way it can be fiberglassed or is another unit needed since these are hard to find?... I dont like the under dash units...
It's plastic. You should be able to use a cyanoacrylate adhesive (super glue) to fix the crack. If clearance permits, you could glue a thin strip of plastic on the crack seam to bolster the repair.
That's a loaded question. Probably about 5 hours worth of work start to finish (as in the box assembled with new hardware). In terms if filming, that stretched it out quite a bit. Film - mess up speaking - back up - film again...it takes a while.
Years. And still not done. That's based on the limited time I have to work on it and limited funds. It could be done in months or a year or so if all the money were available and there were no other time factors keeping you from it.

So good to hear that! This is what keeps me making these, the little bit of help it offers others. Thank you

Yah ......Now you got the idea, make what you can't find 😁.
Great job 👍 great quality my friend.
Thanks. Got a little "Joe" gumption in there. :-)

I should of watched this before I tackled my box. Got everything in now to find the vac leak since vents won't switch modes
Oh no! I hope you can trace the leak, and it's not too hard to fix.
What product or products did you use to clean the box up? Looks good.
Only the ones used in the videos.

Curious of how long this project has take. It's awsome

Thank you again wish I could post pictures
Thanks!! Go make an account on gbodyforum.com and post there. Everyone would love to see.
What size window seal did you use?
I did a pictorial of the parts used here gbodyforum.com/threads/1987-olds-442-project-build.55577/page-32

Where can I get that seal for that part?
There were a bunch of seals. Do you mean the entire kit?
Yes the whole kit
