  • Jeep Wrangler 4xe Technical Presentation by Integration Manager, Dan Fry
The Jeep® brand has introduced its new Wrangler 4xe, marking the arrival of the most capable, technically advanced and eco-friendly Wrangler ever. Jeep Wrangler 4xe models will be available in Europe, China and the United States by early 2021. The Jeep Renegade 4xe and Compass 4xe models - introduced last year in Geneva - began arriving in Europe this summer. The new Jeep 4xe models follow the introduction of the Jeep Grand Commander PHEV in China last year.
The Wrangler 4xe’s plug-in hybrid powertrain is capable of up to 25 miles of nearly silent, zero-emission, electric-only propulsion, making it commuter friendly as an all-electric daily driver without range anxiety and the most capable and eco-friendly Jeep vehicle off-road - combined with the open-air freedom that only Jeep Wrangler offers.
Jeep will offer electrification options on each nameplate in the next few years as it strives to become the leader in eco-friendly premium technology. Electrified Jeep vehicles will carry the 4xe badge. Jeep electric vehicles will be the most efficient and responsible Jeep vehicles ever, taking performance, 4x4 capability and driver confidence to the next level.

The tech is here but not the batteries yet, & off road weight is critical. If it had a 48 volt alternator, to help recharge more & when overlanding not offroading more power is a great thing plug in covered if u hve alternator too. But best feature of allis hving heat & AC even when engine is off< game changer > overlanding & esp in swamp southern states.

Nice! I'm interested to see this 4xe powertrain in the Grand Cherokee, and interested to see if the battery capacity is increased in the Grand Cherokee and over time as batteries improve.
Also interested in use of the energy in the big battery and HVAC for camping.

In hybrid mode, is each engine start basically a cold start under load without oil pressure up?
Or does the forward generator/motor keep turning the oil pump at least ? Concerned about engine life & reliability... I keep a car 10 years / 200k miles at least.... Are oil changes by mileage ... Or maybe hours of engine operation ?
    Is it maintenance intensive?

This is like any other hybrid - each start is not a cold start. There's still the oil film. It's the film that protects, not pressure. That part of this is not different from what Toyota or Honda or others have done for years - without shortening engine life. the only true cold start is the first start of the day. Otherwise, once it's been running, there's oil film over the parts that need oil, and the modern bearings also add safety - these are not your grandfathers babbit bearings. Companies have been stopping and staring engines for years. A pure gas modern vehicle may have auto stop/start which kills the engine at stop lights and starts again when you let off the brake. Old, mature technology. No abnormal engine wear.

Is there a work around for the Max Regen button to stay on after a restart? The manual shows this is how it was designed but it does not work.

If battery or every added battery is topped off then u can let 48 volt alternator not spin, but every time else it can b spinning & charging while gas engine turning.

Hving 2 outlets in bed of truck is again a game changer for full size ford or jeep truck, but needs the 48 volt alternator. Plus God, I want to hve ppl jeep/truck be able to charge from right & left side 110 min at the same time, ie 6hrs not 12 yrs to completely recharge.

I would like to see ppl's car/jeep&truck use geared belts like on a super charger for more torque & sure grip & toughness.

seems some1 needs to get the 48 volt alternator from Ford or RV corp & add it under the hood of the jeep. Last tech guy admitted it doesn't actually save gas. Bc it weighs 1000 extra lbs, he said u won't save gas vs all gas 2.0 turbo unless at elevation. Hving more digital power that won't drop off higher up say 1 mile is big diff. The engines will last longer, & it will b greener, but for most ppl not driving miss daisey it is a wash, but this has smaller gas tank then all gas version not ideal.

God, I Am going to make a independent rear end system for ppl's car by hving 2 hog heads & 2 drive shafts. Mostly independent is better, except heavy loading wt wise or towing. When u rock crawl the widthof the track is key. My idea, bc separate dual rear ends u can expand or contract a center shaft that pushes tires apart 10" or so more or sucks tires in tight when needed or tight trail but mostly normal driving. U can drive hog & left tire or hog & right tire or both at same time. If worst happens & u break1 side u just drive the other side. The center "axle that expands or contracts can poss even "1/2 ass lock" together giving u a jack leg rock locked rear. Most of time independent & exactly the width that is cleanest, but Hving 1ft wider track is diff between crossing obstacle or not lots of times. A ton less wear only hving 1/2 the load going into rear is ideal as well.

There should b a way 2 hve 2 diff rear gear ratios option if only turning 1 tire but that is another work out problem. Most of the time 3.73 is plenty daily driver, or 4.1 like jeep but not 37", or 38" for sure or hell no 40-42" tires. So if u can only hve 1 gear 4.88 God assured is best all around 37" tires or less but right NOW only 4.01 too small gear is offered. If u could hve dual gear 1 for towing & rock & 1 for daily even better, or default hve tall gear in right hog & 4.01 on left. U will only hve poss 3 wheel drive not 4 but to hve good gas & tow/rock crawl option best of both might b worth hving only 3 wheel drive. Other option is 3 normal drive & 1 left axle electric motor drive, that way u hve small gear & tall gear best of both.

Si el motor 2.0 se usa menos, obvio que sí. Las baterías vienen con 10 años/100k millas de garantía.

coasting is a way to easy to a slower speed or stop to save gas but in your system the drag regen braking hammers this. U can shut it off & above 40 mph per hr not heavy traffic u want to turn regen braking dragging off bc pads r dirt cheap DIY lots of ppl but coasting will beat regen braking every time so false choice. Above 29mph not launching up to speed to pass or get on interstate u should b using gas by 30 mph or faster for best results.
