I love the atmosphere of DS1. The lack of music, the echoing, cryptic dialogue. There's just something so lonely and sad about it which fits the theme perfectly. A world that should have ended, limping along in a daze.
that’s my favorite thing about it. it’s the one thing that always draws me back in everytime i play it. ds3, bloodborne, ds2 are cool but nothing will ever beat ds1 for me
Souls games helped me through clinical depression. I'm not joking. When Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3 came out I was going through such a rough time and the enjoyment and ability to overcome and beat those games truly helped me. Favorite franchise by far
When I played thru dark souls 1 I was also going thru a pretty rough time and strangely Solaire and Laurentius kinda cheered me up they were my bros and I saved both (well didn’t let larentius go to blightown)
Funny you say that. My gym closed during Covid and bodybuilding is what kept me happy. Souls games were so fun to me that I became addicted and ultimately I spiraled into a depression.
Did a few playthroughs at the start of the year and oolacile fight club still seems somewhat active (bonfire right after artorias). But i do miss the frequent invasions everywhere back from the 360 days
You can still play it man i just beat it again the other day. Mulitplayer too both Co op and pvp tho it'll be slow unless you use the discord sever to connect with people. The server always has players in it looking to play. You got no excuse not to play it.
thief with black fire bombs is what I always use. Thief for the dex to wield most weapons and master key, with the firebombs for asylum demon and butterfly. The ones I have left over are for things like the parasite guarding Power Within, finishing boss fights at range to be safe, and nuking enemy hordes from a distance. Everything else, like pulling enemy agro is for things like throwing knives, and normal fire bombs for undead burg and depths.
The lingering fire of Black Fire Bombs is real good at clearing the Hollows partnering with the Undead Parish Channeler and are usually what I end up using them for.
I got really into the souls games earlier this year and they kind of saved my life. I was going through a really rough time. My grandpa was a few weeks away from dying of dementia, I liked someone that didn’t like me back, etc. These games distracted me from everything bad going on in my life.

I kind of hated New Londo the first time because it was a difficult and frankly intimidating area. Revisited it years later and changed my mind. The oppressive atmosphere, ghosts (yes, even their invulnerability), darkwraith knights, four kings - amazingly well done.
I remembered a comment that said: "Dark Souls doesn't have difficulty settings. It's perpetually stuck on Fuck You." I've never heard a better sentence to describe dark souls in its entirety.
That is because the developers don't know how to balance enemies and weapons, everything is all over the place. A skinny crystal hollow does more DAMAGE than the bull demon boss you fight after undead burg.

ds1 is was my second fromsoft game. I was a late finder and started with elden ring. I have played the entire catalogue and ds1 is still an all time favorite. something special about it.
I am going to be honest with you, In my own humble opinion without being sentimental of course, Without offending anyone but also by looking into this matter from a distinctive perspective; I would like to say I have nothing to say.
Dark souls 2 is still my favorite. That’s a shit take to like every other souls player out there, but it’s got a special place in my heart for a number of reasons.
@@kevinberg4623 Nah I just like the boss designs, level designs, and the nostalgia of being the first souls game I ever played XD Also I find the lore really fun. Like, what do you mean Vendric discovered a cure for the undead curse? That’s humanity’s natural state, you can’t just DO that? And it requires the use of four crowns from basically Demigod kings that you never even met from several civilizations, which are now all in ruin? Why those particular crowns? What is going on!?! XD
2nd souls playthrough I've seen charlie do lately including the Elden Ring DLC and both times he just got random drops that are incredible. Like black knight sword here on the first one he killed is crazy. Also love seeing him just be a good gamer like he mentioned at the beginning
"I turned 30 and become the best gamer ever" *Misses 2 fire bomb throws and almost gets killed by a single hollow in the undead asylum just seconds before*
absolutely an A+ tier game, but in the line of Souls games from From Soft, its honesly on the lower end for me. I still think that due to its age and how stiff everything is it isnt as great as when it first released.
It's very rough, but it's revolutionary and did the narrative stuff exceptionally well. It was also fresh, so different bosses really gave you new realizations, spacing vs. Manus, managing multi-bosses, wrapping your head around a giant boss like Gaping, reconsidering your approach when Capra ganks you, bosses you wanna stand behind or under, then after a while a lot of it becomes more of a case of going through the motions and just timing against increasingly more complex combos. Dark Souls 1 is more approach > reflexes etc., but the difference is alleviated when any of these games is your personal 1st, cause you'll have most the realizations in that one.
@@Yive. Nah, I feel like if it got remade it’d play like newer FS games, which while fine, takes away from part of the approach of the first one’s design
i labeled it as a japan jank a typified (not inflamatory) at the time, a masocore metroidvania yet streamlined to be less punishing strikes me w/ what makes it the soulslike genre
I think the souls games are highly overrated, aesthetically games like Demon's Souls and Bloodbourne are cool but elden ring is probably the most overrated game of all time and the dark souls games in general are just meh, simple hit, dodge roll, repeat fighting mechanics, fight against a bunch of mutilated monsters, everything is out to get you, no cool side things to do, just the mid af combat and that's it, lackluster story, just overall bleh af..
Umm have you even played the games I usually don’t like games like this but fromsoft knows how to make it a blast Elden ring is the opposite of just doge and stab

ds1 is was my second fromsoft game. I was a late finder and started with elden ring.
I have played the entire catalogue and ds1 is still an all time favorite. something special about it.
I agree it just hits so different I love the sound effects and how there's basically no music besides bosses it's just a cozy ass game
i got dark souls 1 on ps3 and started it for the first time this week
I am going to be honest with you, In my own humble opinion without being sentimental of course, Without offending anyone but also by looking into this matter from a distinctive perspective; I would like to say I have nothing to say.
@luvwhenneedtomakename-z9h wtf
@@HonestTom1892 Edgy lil kids with mental health issues like making these bots, just ignore them
i love that charlie is playing this as im starting the series
You better dont skip Dark Souls 2 and this time 100% all the bosses since you are such a gamer. Im i right fellas or am i right?
Dark souls 2 is still my favorite. That’s a shit take to like every other souls player out there, but it’s got a special place in my heart for a number of reasons.
@@Mad_Hereteku like adp,
@@Mad_Heretekds2 is the most replayable in all of souls imo, there's just so much content and build variety
@@kevinberg4623 Nah I just like the boss designs, level designs, and the nostalgia of being the first souls game I ever played XD
Also I find the lore really fun.
Rykard was a good gimmick fight, just a better Yhorm
It floats down
What if instead of dark souls it was called bright souls and all the bosses just become your friends
So Undertale?
Get this man on FromSoft

The Great Scythe, a quick catacombs run, dex and clean up.
absolutely an A+ tier game, but in the line of Souls games from From Soft, its honesly on the lower end for me. I still think that due to its age and how stiff everything is it isnt as great as when it first released.
It’s great but it’s dated and unfinished. It needs a remake
@Gnurklesquimp2 so glad DS1 was my first. Ds3 was out already boogie figured it would be best to start from the beginning
@@Yive. Nah, I feel like if it got remade it’d play like newer FS games, which while fine, takes away from part of the approach of the first one’s design
@@TigoODonnell demon souls remake played pretty much the same
1:48:09 holy shit man you nearly killed me. I was just chilling, drinking tea and THAT came out. Almost ruined my laptop by spilling my tea over it.
'Bloodborne is still a masterpiece '
Charlie playing Dark Souls is making me do the DS Male Hurt SFX.
Has he ever pronounced a name in a souls game correctly?
i labeled it as a japan jank a typified (not inflamatory) at the time, a masocore metroidvania yet streamlined to be less punishing strikes me w/ what makes it the soulslike genre
This is your fault Moist, expect constant comments asking for DS2&3, your actions have consequences
1.20.55 "he here ill power up as well" was funny ngl
I think the souls games are highly overrated, aesthetically games like Demon's Souls and Bloodbourne are cool but elden ring is probably the most overrated game of all time and the dark souls games in general are just meh, simple hit, dodge roll, repeat fighting mechanics, fight against a bunch of mutilated monsters, everything is out to get you, no cool side things to do, just the mid af combat and that's it, lackluster story, just overall bleh af..
Thank you, been saying this for years
Ngl Some of the worst take out there but explained by valid arguments
Do you play shooters? Where you ADS and Fire? Or racing games? Driving?
Or is it just DS that's gameplay loop is meh to you?
Umm have you even played the games I usually don’t like games like this but fromsoft knows how to make it a blast Elden ring is the opposite of just doge and stab
@@striker2999he never played them before I’m telling you
