My mom thinks I'm crazy when I say these are my favorite games after the way she's heard me curse at them over the years. But that fact is the exact reason I love them. They're challenging and fun and a great source to get rid of any pent up anger or feelings. The way I look at it is I'd rather yell at orphan of kos or fire giant a couple times than fight with someone I care about or don't know at all That can never be undone. Souls games got me through the hardest time of my life after I was in 2 car accidents and couldnt work for almost 6 years. Was at my lowest when my friend brought over ds3 and changed how I look at and approach everything in life. Miyazaki's quote about how death isn't bad but its a chance to learn from your mistakes, and overcome the challenge. That's something that'll always be with me, just like my deep love of bloodborne and the 600+ hours I've spent of my life playing it

If you started with Bloodborne, Dark Souls would be borderline unplayable. Bloodborne is really that good, I'm not even sure if watching videos of it does it justice. I hate even trying to compare it with Dark Souls because they're so different.

This game has the best sound design out of any of them. All of the bosses, even the human ones, sound like they’re out for blood and nothing else. The Cleric Beast, who is likely the first boss you fight, has an ear-piercing screech you won’t ever forget. It’s fantastic.

I've always found it to be really awkward personally. I like that with the Cleaver you can get right up to an enemy and gut them. Super simple. The Pimp Cane looks cool and the whip transformation is sick, but the way it moves is very unnatural imo.

I know this is older but wow… I don’t get why some soulsborne players think that everyone is playing easy mode unless they have every boss fight take an hour long. I mean think about it, the only real difference between using Ludwig’s Blade and bare hands(pros apparently) is that the person using the sword doesn’t feel like fighting the boss for an hour and wants to move on. So what if there is a strategy to a boss, Demon’s Souls bosses all seemed to have a weakness or gimmick to beating them and I thought that was pretty awesome. I don’t think anyone should ever dictate or judge how another person plays these games.
Ludwig's holy blade really is just that op I'm not even joking fast high damage huge ass stagger great range like it's to good I only used it for grinding the chalices for runes

Finally played this game for the first time at the beginning of this year, being a total Souls novice. This game broke me, but it ended up becoming one of my new favorite games of all time. I loved it so much, I bought it physically so it can be on my shelf. So. Fucking. Incredible. The world is disgustingly gorgeous, the combat has that perfect amount of depth and the soundtrack, ooooooo the soundtrack is sex, pure orchestral brilliance. One sequel and PS5 enhanced port, along with a Steam version for PC players to go, please!
Same situation here. Fucking love this game. On my first playthrough passed it without playing DLC and currently I'm stuck on Ludwig (NG+, 97 lv., Pizza Cutter +6). This game is amazing and became one of the best games I've ever played

In all honesty I think the only reason people fear her is because that charge attack that causes them to panic dash which causes them to get hit in the counter frames which either one shots or deals insane damage.
Still on my first playthrough of the game, I haven’t started until my friends pressured me into it and so far it’s one of the best gaming experiences I’ve had in a long time
I realized why Bloodbourne is the best of the souls’ games, because you’re not the underdog fighting off impossible enemies and succeeding, you’re the hunter doing the job which is why it says prey slaughtered, I slowly began to realize that I shouldn’t fear the monsters, the monsters should fear you.

I'm pretty specific with how I play each game as well Dark souls 1: i prefer the dark knight Halbert but if I can't get it dragon great sword Ds2: I don't Ds3: I'll use whatever starter weapon for a majority of the game but switch to smoughs hammer Bloodborne: saw cleaver but switch to chikage, did enjoy the rakuyo tho Sekiro: parry city, I don't use the prosthetics Demons souls remastered: I used the great axe and magic aura most of the game
Mad respect for the 28 attempts on the boss towards the end. I've never played any of the souls games myself, but I'm impressed with how calm you managed to stay during that. It seemed like you had done it on your second or third attempt with EASE from your tone; you are 100% certifiably built different

I absolutely love BB but if I could change anything it would be Gem drop rates and enemies that drop them, and the Chalice Dungeons. I hate the Challice dungeons. I know some people like them but I do not. Not at all. They just get so boring after doing like 2 layers.

Imagine suggesting the rakuyo to someone in the very beginning of the game. That's probably the single hardest weapon in the entire game to get, even harder the earlier you try to do it.

I agree. I have played other Souls games but this was a huge feature of 2015. I still remember it as background to friends and women, I don't recall any time in recent history where a game captivated me so much. The lore is amazing, the gameplay and hitbox was the best for the time... just memory dodging enemies and bosses...
Orphan of Kos is genuinely one of the most well designed bosses in gaming difficulty-wise. Sure, he's tanky and hits like a truck, but I like that most of his difficulty comes from punishing you for panic dodging and greed. It's like Fromsoft knew exactly how players would react to his attacks and designed his followups to punish that. It's great that he forces you to be smart about how you dodge him and choose attack windows. He is balls-crushingly hard but never feels bullshit, a balance few developers can achieve. Probably a top five Souls boss imo.
well idk about well designed as there was numerous times where he glitched in my playthrough especially when he swung his placenta around in the first phase. or whatever he uses as a weapon oh not to mention his second phase being literally hell as he just flies from left to right instantly killing me but I guess that's my fault for making twink builds by myself

Orphan of Kos and Ludwig are 2 of my favorite bosses in all of the Soulsborne games. I honestly wish they were apart of the main game and not just DLC. And actually, I don’t understand why they weren’t in the main game. When you beat them, they kinda feel essential to Bloodborne. Like you really shouldn’t beat the main game if you haven’t beaten them yet. I’m probably in the minority but when I beat Mergo’s Wet Nurse and the doll said Gehrman was waiting for me I was like wait..really?
100% he was playing bloodborne like dark souls and it was so painful to watch. The whole point of the game is that step dodge, the speed it creates, the momentum gained in the fights all become like a dance. And he kept being annoyed at not being able to roll out of a sprint? Like dude the game is telling you to lock on and step dodge and youre still trying to play it like dark souls
tbh he is right. That's one minor issue that grows into bigger one the more you play the game. I don't know what compelled them to bind jump button to the same button you roll.
@@461Dragonman I think it comes from a fact that Bloodborne was developed right after DS1 and it took some of the clunky aspects with it. Don't know why they didn't patch in some of these fixes though.

The beast cutter absolutely shits on him with no diff, 24/7 pancakes and the only thing you have to worry about is his gun, but if you do get hit you're so far away you can heal easily.

The nastiest thing about the Dark Souls combat mechanics is the punishment system. If you're hit in the middle of a dodge, you take double damage, which is why it sometimes seems like even a weak attack suddenly might become a one-shot.
@@marleymol3610 added little stuff, from what I remember these "vulnerability frames" also occur when in the middle of an attack animation, so getting hit while attacking does more damage. On the other end of the spectrum, in the souls games, there are "partial parries" where if you don't get the timing quite right, you won't parry the attack but will manage to reduce the damage. I could be wrong about those, but pretty sure it's correct

@@justinmeredith4513 Old comment, but can confirm. This is a mechanic in all of them I think, but feels very prevalent in BB since you are dodging and attacking a lot. A singular mistimed quickstep can destroy you. It also feels like mistiming your dodge can amplify the hitstun you're in after taking the hit, but I cannot confirm if that's just a hunch or real.
i always really liked str and arc build. buffed tonitrus with augr of ebrietas spell good dmg and knockback. tiny tonitrus for range. execuitoners glove was pretty good too
My favorite thing about Bloodborne is how its difficult for people in different ways. I’ve never once died to those spiders that get him multiple times, but Charlie destroys bosses i had to play like 30 times or couldnt do without a helper.
Is that how dodging in this game works? That doesn't really make since dodging into an attack. Well maybe I'll try the game again. The way they changed dodging in this game is why I never finished my playthrough. I just tried to parry everything.

When I first played bloodborne I didn't realize I hadn't equipped my weapon so, this being my first souls experience, I just figured this was what souls games were like. I have beat Malenia with ease, but I still struggled on Father Gascoigne. I have not gotten any better lol
You know, the way some of us struggle with different bosses say a lot to how we approach them, I remember that Ludwig took a shit ton of my braincells before I beat him while others had a walk in the park with him. Or Lady Maria who I beat first try but others had a tougher time with her. Orphan is no different really but he kicked my ass constantly until the next day where I beat him first try, out of blood vials and bullets and only healed through rally, it made love this fight a whole lot because we butt heads with both of us at the end of their life, it felt so fucking satisfying beating him. Didn't feel the same about Laurence though, he can go eat shit and with the Beast's Embrace in my possession, I don't have to fight him for as long as my save stands.
You can get a tonsil stone from Gilbert at the central Yharnham lamp. Talk to him once, and then again after you beat Vicar Amelia. He’ll give you the stone, and tells you to go to the right of the grand cathedral. Once you reach the dead end, the Amygdala will pick you up and take the to the lecture hall sooner than you would’ve normally gone. He’ll give you the stone instead of the flamethrower. Had no idea that was possible.
The Crow from Eileen's questline is so bullshit. He has: - x50 your health; - Can two-shot you with his sword; - Can one shot you with his gun; - Has infinite ammo; - Can restore half of his health with one blood vial; - Can stagger you through a hit.

@@wasteman9548 That ladder is literally how you access the boss. You can't get to him without first revealing the ladder. The run past all the ghosts and a minute of roof parkour is what makes the run back so annoying.
You don't have to be good at a game to love it. You also don't have to play it on any difficulty you don't want to, or impose challenges on yourself due to peer pressure. Enjoy the game how you want. Don't let others ruin it for you.
With elden ring coming out in a week I thought I'd catch up again by watching some soulsborne content. I gotta say, orphan was not that tough a boss for me. He was hard and very mechanically taxing but he just clicked with me for some reason. I got him down in only about 5 or 6 tries which was much less than even logarius. Its always interesting to see which bosses people have trouble with and it's almost never quite the same for anyone. Very well done fight and I commend anyone who has the preserverance to take him down.
I've seen a lot of people say Logarius gave them trouble but I think it took me 3 tries. FromSoftware does an amazing job with boss variety because there are very few bosses that everyone finds easy or super hard. It really just depends on how you play and where you find your strengths in each of their games. Ludwig by far killed me more than any other boss it felt like 50 tries while Orphan was maybe 25
@@dathunderman4 some people say that sure but im slightly peeved that he just outright asks the chat what to do without trying to figure it out on his own. Imo makes the 10x more enjoyable when you discover secrets and beat bosses without assistance. I feel like thats a fair judgement.

Which is the same problem ds2 had to me and why i find ds3 to be the best one because the bosses have always been the focal point of these games and ds3 had the best and most challenging bosses. I've always found it to be really awkward personally. I like that with the Cleaver you can get right up to an enemy and gut them. Super simple. The Pimp Cane looks cool and the whip transformation is sick, but the way it moves is very unnatural imo.

I know this is older but wow… I don’t get why some soulsborne players think that everyone is playing easy mode unless they have every boss fight take an hour long. I mean think about it, the only real difference between using Ludwig’s Blade and bare hands(pros apparently) is that the person using the sword doesn’t feel like fighting the boss for an hour and wants to move on. So what if there is a strategy to a boss, Demon’s Souls bosses all seemed to have a weakness or gimmick to beating them and I thought that was pretty awesome. I don’t think anyone should ever dictate or judge how another person plays these games.
Ludwig's holy blade really is just that op I'm not even joking fast high damage huge ass stagger great range like it's to good I only used it for grinding the chalices for runes

Finally played this game for the first time at the beginning of this year, being a total Souls novice. This game broke me, but it ended up becoming one of my new favorite games of all time. I loved it so much, I bought it physically so it can be on my shelf. So. Fucking. Incredible. The world is disgustingly gorgeous, the combat has that perfect amount of depth and the soundtrack, ooooooo the soundtrack is sex, pure orchestral brilliance. One sequel and PS5 enhanced port, along with a Steam version for PC players to go, please!
Same situation here. Fucking love this game. On my first playthrough passed it without playing DLC and currently I'm stuck on Ludwig (NG+, 97 lv., Pizza Cutter +6). This game is amazing and became one of the best games I've ever played

In all honesty I think the only reason people fear her is because that charge attack that causes them to panic dash which causes them to get hit in the counter frames which either one shots or deals insane damage.

I absolutely love BB but if I could change anything it would be Gem drop rates and enemies that drop them, and the Chalice Dungeons. I hate the Challice dungeons. I know some people like them but I do not. Not at all. They just get so boring after doing like 2 layers.

Imagine suggesting the rakuyo to someone in the very beginning of the game. That's probably the single hardest weapon in the entire game to get, even harder the earlier you try to do it.

I still remember it as background to friends and women, I don't recall any time in recent history where a game captivated me so much. The lore is amazing, the gameplay and hitbox was the best for the time... just memory dodging enemies and bosses...

Orphan of Kos is genuinely one of the most well designed bosses in gaming difficulty-wise. Sure, he's tanky and hits like a truck, but I like that most of his difficulty comes from punishing you for panic dodging and greed. It's like Fromsoft knew exactly how players would react to his attacks and designed his followups to punish that. It's great that he forces you to be smart about how you dodge him and choose attack windows. He is balls-crushingly hard but never feels bullshit, a balance few developers can achieve. Probably a top five Souls boss imo.

Orphan of Kos and Ludwig are 2 of my favorite bosses in all of the Soulsborne games. I honestly wish they were apart of the main game and not just DLC. And actually, I don’t understand why they weren’t in the main game. When you beat them, they kinda feel essential to Bloodborne. Like you really shouldn’t beat the main game if you haven’t beaten them yet. I’m probably in the minority but when I beat Mergo’s Wet Nurse and the doll said Gehrman was waiting for me I was like wait..really?

You didn't even mention that the Bloody Crow also has infinite shooting spam and that his gun is also the most damaging in the game, the repeating pistol.
The beast cutter absolutely shits on him with no diff, 24/7 pancakes and the only thing you have to worry about is his gun, but if you do get hit you're so far away you can heal easily.

The nastiest thing about the Dark Souls combat mechanics is the punishment system. If you're hit in the middle of a dodge, you take double damage, which is why it sometimes seems like even a weak attack suddenly might become a one-shot.
That's why you always roll into attacks. That bonus damage doesn't apply when you get hit in the front

@@marleymol3610 added little stuff, from what I remember these "vulnerability frames" also occur when in the middle of an attack animation, so getting hit while attacking does more damage. On the other end of the spectrum, in the souls games, there are "partial parries" where if you don't get the timing quite right, you won't parry the attack but will manage to reduce the damage. I could be wrong about those, but pretty sure it's correct

@@justinmeredith4513 Old comment, but can confirm. This is a mechanic in all of them I think, but feels very prevalent in BB since you are dodging and attacking a lot. A singular mistimed quickstep can destroy you. It also feels like mistiming your dodge can amplify the hitstun you're in after taking the hit, but I cannot confirm if that's just a hunch or real.

They normally take 2 I believe. If you spam the r1/r2/l1/l2 buttons when grabbed you take less damage and only lose 1 insight.

When I first played bloodborne I didn't realize I hadn't equipped my weapon so, this being my first souls experience, I just figured this was what souls games were like. I have beat Malenia with ease, but I still struggled on Father Gascoigne. I have not gotten any better lol

You know, the way some of us struggle with different bosses say a lot to how we approach them, I remember that Ludwig took a shit ton of my braincells before I beat him while others had a walk in the park with him. Or Lady Maria who I beat first try but others had a tougher time with her. Orphan is no different really but he kicked my ass constantly until the next day where I beat him first try, out of blood vials and bullets and only healed through rally, it made love this fight a whole lot because we butt heads with both of us at the end of their life, it felt so fucking satisfying beating him. Didn't feel the same about Laurence though, he can go eat shit and with the Beast's Embrace in my possession, I don't have to fight him for as long as my save stands.
You can get a tonsil stone from Gilbert at the central Yharnham lamp. Talk to him once, and then again after you beat Vicar Amelia. He’ll give you the stone, and tells you to go to the right of the grand cathedral. Once you reach the dead end, the Amygdala will pick you up and take the to the lecture hall sooner than you would’ve normally gone. He’ll give you the stone instead of the flamethrower. Had no idea that was possible.
Bloodborne and Sekiro have to be my favorite games in this genre. The movement is great and gun/sword play is so clean. Still rage inducing tho

- x50 your health;
- Can two-shot you with his sword;
- Can one shot you with his gun;
- Has infinite ammo;
- Can restore half of his health with one blood vial;
- Can stagger you through a hit.

@@scottbecker4367 theres a lever that opens a bookshelf that has a ladder you climb up so instead of going through the whole buiding again its just elevator, ladder, rooftops.

@@wasteman9548 That ladder is literally how you access the boss. You can't get to him without first revealing the ladder. The run past all the ghosts and a minute of roof parkour is what makes the run back so annoying.

This game is just such a masterpiece. I absolutely love it to bits. I may be really bad at it, but I still love it all the same.
You don't have to be good at a game to love it. You also don't have to play it on any difficulty you don't want to, or impose challenges on yourself due to peer pressure.
Enjoy the game how you want. Don't let others ruin it for you.

Charlie really gotta say, I thought I wasn't gonna vibe with a 2 hour video but I must confess I am moist.
Just the first level with Gascoigne and the beast that hops over the cathedral building... goddamn. what an experience.
With elden ring coming out in a week I thought I'd catch up again by watching some soulsborne content. I gotta say, orphan was not that tough a boss for me. He was hard and very mechanically taxing but he just clicked with me for some reason. I got him down in only about 5 or 6 tries which was much less than even logarius. Its always interesting to see which bosses people have trouble with and it's almost never quite the same for anyone. Very well done fight and I commend anyone who has the preserverance to take him down.
I've seen a lot of people say Logarius gave them trouble but I think it took me 3 tries. FromSoftware does an amazing job with boss variety because there are very few bosses that everyone finds easy or super hard. It really just depends on how you play and where you find your strengths in each of their games. Ludwig by far killed me more than any other boss it felt like 50 tries while Orphan was maybe 25
i like how hes surprised he is destroying some bosses without realizing that the wherligig saw has some of the best dps in the game

Which is the same problem ds2 had to me and why i find ds3 to be the best one because the bosses have always been the focal point of these games and ds3 had the best and most challenging bosses.
