    We overland in our Tundra on the opposite side of the country - the Appalachian Mountains. Very different. No desert or desert-like terrain. The mountains are dominated by thick-leaf forests (oak, spruce, birch, maple, etc), rivers, waterfalls, and more. Winter offers skiing & snow adventure. Wildlife (deer, elk, moose, bears, bobcats, wolves, etc) is abundant. Boating & fishing (trout, bass, catfish, etc) is great.

      Sounds very different and interesting. Probably a whole different set of skills and gear to accomplish a successful trip then what I’m use to. Even this Colorado mountain was very different for me coming from growing up in a desert region.

      @@prospectoverland .. Different, but similar. My Tundra is similarly equipped (lights, winch, traction devices, etc). Trails similar, but less dusty. Stops to enjoy the scenery, wildlife, or explore (large caves, etc) more frequent. Overnight stops often result in an extra day for fishing. Our early August trip is nearly always accompanied by a ride down the multi-state "World's Longest Yard Sale" on the return leg.

    Seriously considering the GFC shell for 2022 Tundra. How labor intensive is it to remove from the truck if I want to take it off, can it be done with a couple guys? Or is it a permanent fixture? I like the idea of my gear being locked up, but still not sure about having a shell full time.

    • @prospectoverland
      @prospectoverland  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I cant speak on personal experience, I leave mine on full time...But.... I know guys out there do it. The best way I have seen is some sort of winch or pully system in the roof of a garage and just lift it up a couple inches and pull the truck out from under it. The actual camper is only held on in four locations with a simple bolt/clamp system. The only thing is the rubber seal between the bed rail and the camper, not sure how reusable that is. Or if it would need a fresh seal for each re install.

    What dates was this driven? That always seems to get left out of driving videos. Good info to see snow cover. I'll be there in a few weeks and am wondering if I will be able to run it all the way.

      No problem at all. Easy! I’ve heard Black Bear Pass is the one to look out for in full size rigs.

      In this video I am running 18" method NV's with a +25 offset. The tires are 35" BFG KM3.
      Since this video, I have kept the same rim and went up to 37" tires but stuck with the same KM3's. I have a video posted about suspension and tire upgrade.

      At the time of this trip it was just 35’s and a leveling kit. I have since changed the whole suspension, gearing, and 37’s. I have a video on this suspension change if you care to check it out.

      Thank you appreciate it. Hmmm, I don’t have an exact hour time frame. It’s took us probably 3/4 of the day with the hood up and videoing. You could probably zip over it in as short as a couple hours if you didn’t do much sight seeing or stopping at the top. However long or short you plan, it’s totally worth doing.

      I had more footage and could have done a whole separate video just about the ranch and all the cool things on the property but it’s privately owned and not available to rent so had to keep that part to a bare minimum. But thanks for checking out the video.

      Just a 2.5" spacer for the front end and helper air bags on the back so it doesn't sag.....should be picking up my ICON set up any day now, cant wait.

    How do you run the wiring for the rear lights on the camper? I’m experimenting on mine by running them through the back door. Not enough room there and frayed a wire 😒
