Omg!!! I remember this episode as a kid (particularly the scene when the hippie kids stopped the dope addicts and then had a fight). These episodes showed a realism and a film lighting that was never really seen in other tv police shows. Thanks for putting this up man!!!!

Good day…..Belated reply: Those kids/teenagers were not hippies. Hippies advocated nonviolence and love.

Wow this is good! And what a soundtrack! It's non-stop, it increases the tempo and creates so much drama/tension that wouldn't exist otherwise.

Thanks for sharing this bodacious "blast from the past" with us ! I figured James Earl Jones had his head shaved for his Broadway role in "The Great White Hope" & the credits proved me right ! He repeated the role in the 1970 film version, which netted him a nomination for a Best Actor Oscar.

The reason this was good was it was done in Manhattan. I think it was on ABC for 3 years 1967-1969. Jack Warden was a good actor. He did a lot of good stuff back in the 60s and 70s. He was funny in Shampoo.

While this may not be the first TV Police show based in New York, I think it's the first to push the edge of the envelope in the way they covered topics like homosexuality and heroin addiction. I was never allowed watch this show when it was on. First season I was in a Catholic Boarding School and The Nuns controlled the TV. Second season and thereafter my parents were on an anti TV violence trip. Today I am a successful and diabolical Professional Villain. Oh, and I like the commercials too.

And by a strange coincidence, Frank Converse's other 1967 TV series "CORONET BLUE" is also scheduled to be released on DVD soon. CBS produced and aired the 13 episode series, so i wouldn't be too surprised if CBS Paramount releases both this and "NYPD". David Susskind had formed Talent Associates, which has a fair library of TV shows like "GET SMART!",(1965-70) "RUN BUDDY RUN" (1966), and "EAST SIDE, WEST SIDE" (1963), which they co-produced with CBS and United Artists Television.

When? do you know who owns the rights? because i own the Worldvision Enterprises TV presskit to the show, along with an 8x10 ABC color photograph. because this TV series was produced by Talent Associates, i'm assuming that the rights are either HBO or CBS TV Distribution. Worldvision Enterprises was once the subsidiary of Taft Broadcasting, but was sold to Aaron Spelling's company, Spelling Entertainment, which was sold to CBS in 2000. the rerun rights used to be ABC Films, circa 1970, but they became Worldvision Enterprises by around 1973, which syndicated "NYPD" and its 49 episode run, so i'd sure like to know who'll be releasing this old ABC series on DVD.
