I met him in 2003 without having a clue who he was. He was charming, self-deprecating, brutally candid about his career and true to his word when I eventually asked him for a small favor. @@AmberWoodMusicx Hugh Grant hasn't played the same roles for a couple years now. Brilliant in The Gentlemen, Paddington 2, The Undoing and A Very English Scandal. He's grown into a very good actor. Although he already had that ever since. he was great in Maurice and just absolutely beautiful in that movie. He just worked a lot with Richard Curtis who essentially wrote the same character based on himself.
He once said that people also just bothered to watch the heart-throb movies mentioned here and not the other stuff he did before (Maurice) or during. But I really like his "experimental" phase (Paddington, Wonka) and the weirdness/occasional darkness of the last few years. I love when actors are comfortable enough (professionally and financially) to just start acting in smaller/indie/weird projects (Elijah Wood and Daniel Radcliffe also come to mind)
I love how this interview feels like he is just over at my place for some tea and talking about and reflecting back on his career. He seems much more relaxed and himself than he does during talk shows and you can see his wit and self deprecatory humour peeking through almost all his words. I could listen to him talk all day. Love his voice, accent, humour, sincerity. Love him in every movie I've seen him in.
He's absolutely gorgeous, charming and natural-looking, as well as having a lovely accent.
It's a testament to his charisma that I have watched this three times.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen Notting Hill!
"I became quite fond of the stick in the end. We used to have lunch together."... Hugh Grant, 2018. 😅😂🤣😭
LOVED your dancing in "Love Actually" Just. The. Best. And so are you, Hugh Grant.
Kathleen5429 it’s so bad it’s utterly good! Love him there
"And then I did exactly the same character" 😂😂
I can say with absolute confidence, there is no one i would rather listen to talk about anything. He could talk about tax law and I'd find it entertaining and insightful! He's witty, self-deprecating, charming, has a truly impressive intellect... The older he gets (and more comfortable with himself he becomes) the more I like him.
Ah... Listening him reflect on his roles revealed how down to earth he seems to be... I was surprised by him in cloud atlas. I'll have to watch some of his other films now that he's given a bit of origin story to them being made. Great video!
beck Indico
Can't agree more.
Haven't seen him in that, but will check it out 👍
He is not down to earth. I've been told by several people who've met him, he is an absolute primadonna, and giving everyone around him a hard time. On screen he acts different, but then get fooled by this. It's fully understandable if fans or paparazzi are bugging him, but that is not the case here. Jon Stewart even said it was his worst guest ever.
Thanks for sharing the details of Hugh's film career. He is the RomCom king! I loved him in so many movies, like Love Actually, Bridget Jones, and About a Boy.
No Two Weeks Notice? I loved that movie with him and Sandra Bullock!
Lauren M and 9 months with Julianne Moore was good too.
I will say I always Will Be In Hugh Grants Colored Audiences !!!! To Feel his Great British Accent & Love it All in The End .
Its not one of his best
boring movie!!
Yeah that’s my fav movie with him. I guess it wasn’t as popular as the others otherwise he might’ve mentioned it?
This is the probably best thing I've ever seen on youtube. I've only seen two of his films, but somehow I couldn't stop watching this video until the end. He's amazingly witty and sharp and funny.
If you can find Hugh's Inside The Actor's Studio interview with James Lipton, watch it. He's hilarious and to think all that was off the cuff and spontaneous.
"They were kind enough..to like me"
Oh man I love Hugh Grant. It kinda sucks that he only does romcoms with similar characters given that he's actually a good actor but it's always lovely to see him x
gabrielle.s I love that you have Timothy as your profile picture!
Kyler Polson thank you! his face is just too aesthetically pleasing to not have him as my icon
gabrielle.s true lol. But everything about him is equally as amazing.
Kyler Polson oh absolutely. his acting game is on a whole other level
Maggie Smith has been playing the same fussy British lady for decades and no one critiques her for it.
Fun fact: Thomas Brodie Sangster and Hugh Grant are second cousins once removed. They found out during the filming of love Actually in 2002.
really??
I love how honest he is and he was absolutely fantastic on A Very British Scandal. Really shined everyone should watch it.
He is devastatingly transparent, I love how earnest he is
I NEVER knew he was this charming!
Also, dryly melancholy, and astute.
Plus, very very self-aware and honest.
What a cool chap!!! 😁🍸
If you can find his Inside The Actor's Studio interview, watch it. He's an absolute riot.
„I ended up with the stick. I grew very fond of the stick. We still have lunch together.“ 😂
M.A. I know ...lol ..it was his "Wilson"
The heck is that upside down quote nonsense at the beginning of this comment
Hugh Grant tucking you in at night:
"So, um, sorry to disturb you, it's just, it’s rather late and, obviously, aaah, time for a bed time book, that is, story. Right, okay, fantastic! Now I think . . . you’re really going to enjoy this book, uh, story rather. I’ve, I’ve thought it over a lot, you know, maybe too much (considering). Well, there seems to be, uh, yeah, anyway. Are you sure - and this is a stupid question - I just wondered, if by any chance you wouldn’t like, um, obviously not, but I don't suppose, um, you'd like . . . some . . . water first?"
you're welcome : )
This is bloody spot on
do one more!!
Richard Curtis, is that you?
I can actually hear him say this. Hilarious 😂
Omg I was reading this in his voice without even trying loool
this is just hugh grant simultaneously humblebragging and putting himself down all at once and i am loving it. bring on the ego hugh BRING IT ON
His dry wit is brilliant. Love Hugh.
Like a good aged white wine...dry
“And then I just did exactly the same character.” Lmao. At least he’s a bit self aware.
"They were kind enough to like me."
Only a Brit would be that self-depricating. An American would faint at the mere thought of not being *special*
lol ok
Yes, brits have a way to talk so well that you'll fall in love with them ❤️
Y’all act like americans aren’t self-deprecating lmaoooo
@@maddygallagher3783 they are not
@@bronzeblues7795 hunny I was born in england and I’ve been living in the us for the past 12 years. trust me americans can be self deprecating.
“We are all gonna have to live in Peru” lol yes, please come here
What did he mean
@@lorenap3963 He thought the film would flop and they'd have to escape hate/shame by leaving the country
yes as a fellow Peruvian, that's exactly what I was thinking!
hahaha no you come here
This man's resume is legendary
naw , he is the cameron Dias of the british cinema
Lechiffresix six
That's actually a compliment.
Is it really tho? He just plays the same role over and over
Chuu Choco So does Bruce Willis, Jack Nicholson, Robert De Nero, Kevin Hart, Samuel L Jackson being typecast is not indicative of poor acting abilities but rather poor business choices.
That dance scene in Love Actually is still my favourite scene 🤣🤭
Thank you for sharing so openly and honestly. This felt like a conversation, whenever I had a thought or a question pop up in my mind, he answered it.
I could sit here and listen to him talk all day. Did anyone spot funeral was spelt with two L's?
I did too
Yes I spotted it
Yes, and I can't spel.
I did. I'm so lonely
😁🤣
Me
Loved Hugh on Bridget Jones, Notting Hill and Love Actually. He is funny, charming and quite talented💙
"About a Boy" and "Love Actually" are two of my favourite films of all time. His dry humour is spot on! Love me some Hugh Grant! Brilliant!
I cannot BELIEVE they did not include his most iconic movie aka Music and Lyrics (2007). That hip thrust in Pop Goes My Heart! is a masterpiece for heaven's sake
oasissoldier People can’t get used to the fact that professional editing is not available at TH-cam. There’s nobody there! The stuff just goes out without editing.
Music and Lyrics is a great movie but it is not his most iconic one....come on... 🤔
Hugh Grant is so great. So many wonderful movies through the years. ♥️
Well that has to be one of the best pieces of content I’ve seen with Hugh Grant, genuinely fascinating to hear him reflect.
The way he said 'reptilian' was so wonderfully perfect
Hugh Grant breaks down why he acts the same way in every movie he's in.
Pretty accurate, I feel he’s a perfect mould for particular roles (though Paddington is a bit different)
Hello The Gentlemen…?
He once said that people also just bothered to watch the heart-throb movies mentioned here and not the other stuff he did before (Maurice) or during. But I really like his "experimental" phase (Paddington, Wonka) and the weirdness/occasional darkness of the last few years. I love when actors are comfortable enough (professionally and financially) to just start acting in smaller/indie/weird projects (Elijah Wood and Daniel Radcliffe also come to mind)
This man was my actor crush since I was like 10
Same here 😄😄
I love how this interview feels like he is just over at my place for some tea and talking about and reflecting back on his career. He seems much more relaxed and himself than he does during talk shows and you can see his wit and self deprecatory humour peeking through almost all his words. It's also endearing to see that he is self aware to the extent where he is blatantly admitting to typecasting himself hehe. I'll never get tired of listening to him talk and make fun of himself like it's nothing hehe.
Man he's charming
Is anyone else disappointed about the lack of Music and Lyrics? I found that one iconic.
Ooo...I love that one!
Music and lyrics is an amazing film
Pop! Goes my heart!
Loooove it
and Two Weeks Notice ...
Never mentioned in interviews is what in my opinion is his best role The Englishman who went up a Hill but came down a Mountain. What an underrated film!
ABSOLUTELY! Such a great movie!
00:20 Maurice
01:54 Four Weddings and a Funerall
04:08 Sense and Sensibility
05:07 Notting Hill
06:16 Bridget Jones's diary
06:53 About a Boy
08:28 Love Actually
09:33 Cloud Atlas
10:49 Florence Foster Jenkins
12:53 Paddington 2
14:00 A Very English Scandal
No 9 months? That movie is amazing and hilarious
He is the quintessential British actor - great sense of humor and self deprecating.
did anyone notice the typo in "Funerall" at 1:55 xD
"I don't have that face. Give me a funny line." PRICELESS! This is why we love Hugh Grant.
