ABOUT VANITY FAIR
Arts and entertainment, business and media, politics, and world affairs-Vanity Fair’s features and exclusive videos capture the people, places, and ideas that define modern culture.
Hugh Grant usually seems like he doesn't like a lot of people. But he's definitely fond of Nicholas Hoult. Love their camaraderie.
He’s posh and British, they’re usually rather cynical
No, hes' just british and over 50, and surrounded by film industry sycophants, thats normal for us Brits.
I think he just doesn’t suffer fools kindly
Yes. I noticed that! Sometimes Hugh birders on rude when he’s interviewed but he truly t seems to care about and love Nicholas.❤❤
I have a friend like him. If he had to appear on tv and do interviews and stuff he would come across as the fed up person. But he is actually very kind.
About a Boy is a miracle, a friendship between an adult and a kid, and it's never creepy.
It’s kinda like the better, British version of Big Daddy
@@ningenJMKPerfect comparison! I agree.
Yeah but the mum was mad creepy. 😂
@@ericmills9839 how was she creepy? she was just awkward, hippyish and fluttery
Just like a father figure
this is the happiest i’ve seen hugh in his interviews for heretic promo haha its clear that he really likes nicholas and its so nice to see their reunion on screen
I think he's been visiting divine brown again. Gobble gobble.
I think -as a father- he's secretly proud.
Nice to hear him actually talk about his past, too often he asks interviewers, show hosts or other guests questions to avoid taking about himself.
This time last year I considered crypto without much knowledge and decided to have a consultation with a fiduciary, and it was incredibly insightful. I got into the market with 15k, One year and a couple of months in, and I'm up with 550k. I truly cannot stress enough how helpful experts in this field are!
Market behavior can be complex and unpredictable. Mind if I ask you to recommend this particular advisor to whom you have used their services?
Nicholas is so gracious and humble, and very complimentary, he’s a great actor
Whoever came up with the idea of this conversation is a blessing to human civilization
I have been wanting this for a very long time!
Yes. About a Boy is one of my favorite movies!!
The sweetest reunion ever. We need Tony Colette here too.
already had a Hoult/Colette reunion in Juror #2 at least
🤣🤣🤣🤣Malaydesh🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Exactly
And Rachel Weisz.
Yes
"I think I'm nice - it's just ten seconds of my day and it'll make their day better"
I met Nicholas in Venice this year and I can confirm that, he's just the sweetest, such a gentleman! ❤
Nicholas’ eyes are amazing!
He is so dreamy
Both guys have blue eyes, but Nicholas' eyes by comparison almost shine.
@@hd-xc2lzeyes are shinier when youngerı
That daybright lighting is perfect for the crystal blues
He's very fresh looking.
About a Boy is a film I keep returning to over the years, one of my all-time favorites, and seeing this reunion 22 years later is quite special... Huge fan of both!
Desperately need a Hugh and Colin Firth reunion video for Bridget Jones. DESPERATELY.
There's a new Bridget Jones film coming out next year but (spoiler)....
Bridget is now a widow with 2 small kids. Colin's character died but he appears in flashbacks. Hugh is in the film as an honorary uncle. The book (and film) was inspired by the author's experiences of being a widow. There are trailers for the new film here on TH-cam. Title is Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy.
PLEASE
I’m desperate about paying my rent, 🤷🏻♂️
We saw the new film being filmed all around d London and Brighton. Looks like a great film
YES PLEASE
Met Nick a few times, he has always been lovely and engaging and in fact remembered me the last time and there were several years between. Lovely guy.
venkman!
Sweet experience !
The music for About a Boy was next level. The soundtrack by Badly Drawn Boy is a true movie music masterpiece!
And jadakiss! 😂
I agree and the sound track of the series Six Feet Under. Are 2 of my favorites.
Totally Agree
Totally agree
Silent sigh is genius.
About a Boy is one of my favourite all-time films and Hugh Grant films. The chemistry all around was marvellous. Such a heartwarming story.
The more I see of Hugh grant the more I realise he was chronically underrated over the romcom years. His charm seriously makes you forget the skill and dedication he must’ve put into his many characters, it all seems so effortless and yet clearly not.
He’s not underaged, he’s a legend
Maurice. Maurice (1987) was the movie that really made me see Hugh Grant in a different light. The character in the book that he plays is unlikeable but he adds that vulnerability and nuance that gives so much depth. He's brilliant in the movie and utterly beautiful.

Well said.
About a boy is a fantastic movie. The subject matter is so rare. I love it.
So great to see both of them together again.
It's ok. Fantastic is Citizen Kane
@@adrianl7147nope, this is better
@@adrianl7147it's sad how hard you're trying to fit in
@adrianl7147 it's fantastic . Citizen k is blah
@RockDove5212 it's a predictable, bubble-gum time filler. Nothing wrong with that, but it isn't remarkable in any way.
I need a movie where these two play a father-son duo stat… I never realized just how much Nicholas had been influenced by Hugh until I saw them back together. You can tell Hugh appreciates the career Nicholas has made for himself and who he has become ❤ This is the happiest I’ve seen Hugh Grant in an interview in 30 years.
Edit: What we all need is a proper About A Boy reunion with these two, Toni Colette, Rachel Weisz, Natalia Tena and Augustus Prew… It’s such an amazing underrated movie and I am so sad I can’t find it streaming in the states but I will be buying it for $3.99 because I want to watch it so bad!
maybe a sequel movie?
I loved this reunion. Never seen Hugh so happy. They are both so relaxed together. I loved the movie. It was excellent.
Always loved that movie
I made a comment on a Nicholas Hoult video and now I keep getting recommended stuff with him in it, which is delightful. So is Hugh Grant, as always.
He’s really the kind of guy that doesn’t make you regret being a fan- so aware and humble
They are both so LIKEABLE! It's just so pleasant to watch them.
Thank you Vanity Fair for this lovely reunion! Love them both, and would love to see them together in another film together.
If you guys haven't seen Hugh Grant on Inside the Actor's Studio, hunt it down and watch it. His charm and wit during that interview is second to none.
'About a boy' was a masterpiece, that's down to these pair
Gah, I just adore Hugh's dry humor. And Nicholas seems just so sweetly genuine of a person.
All the way through The Great, I just thought that he was channelling real-life Hugh Grant. It was wonderful.
It never occurred to me thar it was specifically HG, but it's so obvious now looking back!
AAB is my most favorite movie of HG. A romcom that's not the usual love story but tackles a rare & real friendship between an adult & a child. The end result is just precious.
Lovely chat between humble and smart actors. Nicholas is such a gem to listen and to watch on a screen!
Nicholas Hoult is so dreamy.
You just know that this is probably the one thing that Hugh was dreading all day. But he’s still amazing at it. Great chat.
He’s totally the one trying to get some banter going and pushing the conversation too. Absolute legend.
Hugh: I was doing an accent
Nicholas: What accent?
That's what I thought, too.
Ever, ever, ever, ever so slightly less posh. This was Hugh really reaching out.
@@psychoangushis accent in the Gentlemen was fun
Not sloany so not himself. Bit blokey rather than smooth.
But the response…”I wasn’t playing Little Lord Poshington” lol
About a Boy is a fascinating time capsule of the style, fashion, technology, and feel of the early 2000s. It's definitely worth a rewatch. This is a beautiful and warm conversation between these two.
As a sad, lonely only child raised by a troubled single mother, About a Boy was, and is, so, so special to me. It made me weep and it made me glad and hopeful in a way that few films have since. ❤
X100❤
Nicholas is literally gorgeous omg. And Hugh a national treasure of course
This is my favorite film and I feel like it’s rarely mentioned - especially in interviews with Hugh Grant. This is amazing. Thank you for making my day 🥲💗
Love this! Have waited such a long time for them to meet again. You can see how much Nick respects Hugh and Hugh loves it as a proud (step) father.
About a Boy is one of my favorite movies and favorite books of all time. Such a beautiful movie about depression and loss and friendship and just relationships in general. It hit me at a poignant time in my life. I’m thankful for this, to see Nicholas so grown and well off in his career. He was brilliant in that movie. And Hugh grant has always been one of my favorite actors. Brings the circle around. Thank you!
They're both a little reserved but there is a genuine affection there.
Welcome to Britain
This is a very warm conversation in Britain hahaha
What an absolutely endearing conversation!
I love Hugh Grant. He seems like a real chap. Nicholas has so much confidence!
hugh calling his floppy hair ghastly is a crime
His hair is and has always been beautiful.
His floppy hair is such opposite of ghastly. It’s gorgeous.
He's always gorgeous
Laughed out loud when he said it, but yeah, Hugh's hair was somewhat his best feature.
It was ghastly
It's interesting to ponder why Nicholas Hoult didn't suffer the fate of so many other child actors as they became adults of losing popularity. I think Hoult as a child actor and as an adult has brought a sense of charm and playfulness, along with vulnerability, to so many of his roles that you always looked forward to seeing what he'll do, whether child or young adult. He also didn't seem to have the awkward teenage stage on screen that some others like Haley Joel Osment when you realized he was growing up in films like Secondhand Lions. Maybe it was partially because Grant treats his character in About A Boy more like a friend worth respecting than a child that the transition seemed more natural. Either way, he's made an excellent career for himself.
I think he also grew very tall and was able to seem like a different person than he was as a child.
I feel it's different for child actors in Britain compared to the US. It seems that young British musicians seem to have similar fates to US ones.
Portraying an excessively adult minded teen in Skins could also have helped with the transition?
He wasn't really a 'cute' child actor, so when he got older that didn't trap him (like a McCauley Caulkin).
It's a shame they didn't mention Skins. That's the first time I saw him post-about a boy and he gave a mesmerising performance. In my mind, that cemented his transition to adult acting.
Oh this is brilliant Vanity Fair. Please do more of these reunion type videos
I do hope these two do another project soon whether it’s a film or play, their chemistry is really outstanding and makes it compelling to watch as an audience.
Nicholas Holt is seriously gorgeous!
He's pretty talented too
And that's all that matters.
@@LeviBoldock and his gorgeousness
My daughter and I loved that movie, and have rewatched it many times. Hugh Grant is one of those actors that we all adore, and he never fails to make me laugh with his very quick wit.
I just keeping on liking Hugh Grant more and more as he (and I) get older. And Nicholas Hoult is pretty cool too. Both are exceptional actors. Hugh Grant was fantastic in A Very English Scandal.
Strumming my pain with his fingers
Singing my life with his words 🥺🥺❤
Well this is so lovely and charming and sweet. Was not expecting this reunion but it was just as charming as you could hope ☺️
This was lovely! Can't believe that film was 21 years ago gosh!
They do look like father and son
They actually do, I never noticed that before
they both have thoes dreamy blue eyes😭💙
They weren’t father and son in the movie though. It’s about their friendship or being an adoptive / surrogate family to each other
Which is why it’s so strange, the fact that Nicholas Hoult grew up to look so similar to him and they weren’t even meant to be related.
Face shapes are nothing alike, they just both have blue eyes
Nicholas Hoult is my new found favorite actor, and Hugh Grant has been consistent throughout hos career - love them both! Love that he gave Nicholas golf clubs as a wrap gift for About the Boy
I honestly wish this would have been longer, it was wonderful seeing their natural chemistry.
How odd! I was slightly uncomfortable throughout because I felt like they were on completely different wavelengths - to the extent that it became awkward. I almost literally squirmed and even considered stopping watching the video (yes, I am ridiculously sensitive).
@malovela Hmm interesting. They both seem a little awkward so maybe that's why you felt that. There is also that age difference, but idk I found that this was quite nice. Nicholas is now the age Hugh grant was back then.
Two actors that are always extremely watchable.
"You look like Hugh Grant" is a huge compliment! 💫
Recently saw Badly Drawn Boy in concert. Had to watch About a Boy the next day. Lovely film.
About a Boy is, by far, my favorite movie! It’s so genuine, dramatic and funny… just a wonderful story with perfect cast! 👍
About a Boy is one of my all-time favorite movies -- what a treat to see the kid all grown up and successful!!
Dude has acted in a lot of movies
@@vdoggydogg3922 Heh..... I know that now but never-ever put the two together before. I had no idea that this guy was The Boy. :)
Literally just finished watched the movie, then searched the boy in the movie and lead me to this interview, and saw that posted it less than an hour ago. Crazy.
same here woaa
I thought it was fortuitous to see this pop up because the night before last, I told my mom the entire plot and gushed about how much I loved it. I think I need another rewatch.
That’s….actually kinda cool 😄
Just watched it first time 2 days ago
Yeah so wild that of the 350,000 viewers on this video, one of them may have just watched the movie 🙄 it's not like it features Christmas themes or anything either that would lead anybody to be watching it in December 😬
Love their dynamic. Hugh is so funny.
This was such a lovely movie. Acting was iconic, and the kid was phenomenal in that role.
Im now the same age (42) as Hugh was when he made this movie and i'm in exactly the same position in life. I watched the film when it released and can't believe how quickly time has passed. Now scrambling for a wife and family. 😩
I love them sm, as actors and as people, they are amazing and so versatile in their craft. Am glad they got to hangout and chat, connect and share anecdotes about their passion and takes on acting, specially with such successful and different careers.
I need the 1hr version of this video.
This movie was soooo popular when it came out. Everyone saw it and loved it. I'm so Happy for Nicholas Hoult! He's a great actor
What a great reunion! Amazing to think where each of their careers have gone since!
This is such a great chat between two people who ckearly have a great fondness for one another. Brilliant
Nicholas Hoult should do more Hugh Grant-esque rom-coms. And another movie with Hugh Grant. Just cast them both in everything!
Clint Eastwood is also known for not messing with the script, that's why screenwriters love him. Sometimes great screenplays can get ruined with new edits and completely changed, but if he likes the screenplay, then that's the movie he wants to direct.
I loved the movie About A Boy. This conversation was so enjoyable to view. Hugh Grant isn't everyones cup of tea but I really appreciate his dry humour, honesty and and sharp wit. He's still very handsome. Nicholas has grown up to be very lovely as well. My best wishes for both of them.
I love that Nicholas mentions "Micky Blue Eyes"... I LOVE that film, it's so hilarious. "About A Boy" is one of my favorite movies of all time... it's one of those films I never get tired of watching. Absolutely love this interview so much... thank you, Hugh, Nicholas and Vanity Fair!! I would absolutely love to see these two in a film together again. ❤
Same! Both movies were on repeat in my house and quoted constantly over 20 years
Rah!!!!!!😂
I saw it being made, met the directors and walked past Hugh and Rachael Weisz every day. Hugh would make members of the set laugh, the directors really liked him and said he was hilarious. My boss got someone to ask him for an autograph and he was very kind and humble. Hugh would often chat to people passing by on set and looked very happy on that film.
Rachael Weisz is even more stunning in real life than on film.
Normally when an actor has 5 movies coming out within the span of a year something has gone horribly wrong and yet Hoult's recent output is better than ever.
About A Boy is a movie I watch yearly as I absolutely love it. Hugh Grant is amazing, Nicholas Hoult is outstanding and Toni Colette is excellent!
Me too every year around Christmas 😊
Its a joy to see Nicholas and hugh grant reunited reminiscing the movie About a boy. It would be nice to toni Colette and Rachel weisz included. Nicolas holt is such nice and humble guy.
Love this! Love them. So glad Nicholas is doing so well
Didnt know how much i needed to see this 😍😍😍😍
I love Hugh. Period.
This!!! Oh how perfect! Thank you for making this happen
nicholas is just the down to earth and sweetest, he is nice to fans, very nice to me at a con!
Both having great year in movies
I remember seeing this movie and thinking "that kid is brilliant" and how in 2024 did I not realize that child was Nicholas Hoult?! He's such a great actor and we still talk about his performance in "The Menu".
I have so much hope for Nicholas Hoult to continue to have the most incredible career of amazing characters.. He seems so incredible humble and genuine and truly generous
They’ll all be replaced by AI
4:00 That's so funny, the image of Nicholas Holt challenging his tiny kids to try and harm him, them stomping on his back like a trampoline, while he's face down victoriously yelling, "YOU CAN'T HURT ME! MUHAHAHA!"
And then he wakes up the next day shattered 😅
Nick is one of those people that you can't help but love, hope his career continues to flourish ❤
about a boy is the first dramatic film i ever watched as a kid and coincidentally enough, I've followed nicholas hoult's career ever since, we're even the same age, so i am genuinely happy that he's gone this far as a successful actor, hugh grant too. I am glad he's being offered more diverse roles.
I would 100% watch a sequel with these 2 as adults
"Maybe baby, that's just the sort of thing i say."
About A Boy is an exceptional film with a perfect soundtrack! What a wonderful reunion!
Nicholas grew into a very talented and smart guy! It’s lovely to see him bond with Hugh 🥰
Something I never really put together about about a boy until I got older and rewatch. It is the subtle storytelling that goes untold about Will and his ability to play guitar. When Marcus first asked him why he has a guitar, Will brushes it off and says it’s just to look cool once again feeding into his lifestyle that’s all about ego and appearance and nothing of really substance. But then in the end, he surprises us all by showing up for Marcus and being able to play quite nicely, which also may allude to the fact that at some point, he did want to amount to more than just existing selfishly and possibly follow in his own father‘s footsteps. Kind of cool :-)
Very true. It gives you a really humanising insight into his character, and leads you to wonder how he became so cynical.
Nicholas Hoult is so talented, attractive & well spoken. I have NO idea how he’s not a top Hollywood lead featured in absolutely everything… He’s been great for decades!
Summary: you are brilliant, you are brilliant, we are both brilliant.
How charming! I could watch them for another 20 minutes.
I can’t believe how much I enjoyed this. Such a natural banter between the two. The mob story and the nails was brilliant. Thank you and yes loved the movie.
THEY ARE SO ADORABLE ❤
Lovely to see them together again. 🤩
I’m not usually that interested in watching interviews, but I loved About a Boy so decided to watch this when it came up in my TH-cam feed. Fantastic! Relaxed and interesting conversation and mutual rapport! Lovely! Very authentic!
Loved seeing them catch up. Can’t tell you how much I loved and still love About a Boy. Was also great to see Nicolas and Toni Colette reunite for Juror no2!
This movie will always have a special place in my heart. I was about the same age as Marcus when it came out. It just spoke to me. I could relate to Marcus so much. It’s a beautiful film.
These 2 should make another movie together. Love them both.
Loved About a Boy and these two just chit chatting is absolutely lovely.
I do think it’s hilarious that Hugh Grant thinks he’s doing an accent in that film.. he’s just marginally less posh than usual
It's different enough to have a little fun as an actor lol
Its definitely more of a normal London accent.
It was a different accent
If anything, subtle accents are probably harder to do than big obvious ones
@@debruceyand only true Londoners pick it up.
Loved that movie, About A Boy. Hugh Grant is getting better with years. He's so funny. Nice reunion!
