How Tim Pool Keeps His Audience Ignorant

  • Here we are, back with Tim Pool once again. He's one of those black holes of misinformation that I couldn't help but get pulled back. This was supposed to be a much smaller video, but clearly I had a lot to say. And quite a bit had to be cut. I would have more time to really dig into Tim content in a kinder (crueler?) world, but this is the only world we've got.
The original version of this video started off with a fun joke about someone asking me if I was going to spend another week watching Tim Pool videos, and I asked if they were making some kind of threat. It was good. But reality means we don't get to be funny, so now there's a disclaimer about the Capitol attack on January 6th.
Due to a lot of quick updates, and the timeliness of this video, the overall product is a little rough around the edges compared to some of my other videos. But if no one notices that, let's just say my videos were never very slick to begin with.

Every time I see this dude debate anyone, he'll bring up a point, argue for a moment like it's the most important point in his toolbelt, get proven wrong instantly, and drop it like he just found out it had cooties. "Ultimately I think it's irrelevant." Then why'd you fuckin bring it up, Tim?

Because his fans will think it is important. He only talks about things he knows his audience will like. He bought a huge house in Texas by doing so and will continue to do so.
When someone confronts him for it, he instantly pulls out the "I don't really believe it, I just play both sides. I am not republican" bullshit. The dude literally cheered when he got news that trump could possibly be reinstated.

There are religious leaders who claim that the world is ending every single year. They rarely lose followers. It's never their fault that they got it wrong. They were deceived by someone, or you didn't understand their prediction, or the prediction was actually right but their god decided to do something different at the last minute. Once people are taken in by a group, they resist criticism of the group, since admitting the leader was wrong requires that adherents admit they were wrong for supporting or believing the leader.
It's just a form of confirmation bias. We're all susceptible to this kind of bias - it's human nature. Some people are just more willing to confront that bias and accept reality.

You’re absolutely correct about him speaking about things he knows very little about - it’s evident that he doesn’t even do a minimal amount of research. For example, he spent weeks telling his audience that Chauvin couldn’t be convinced of second-degree murder because he didn’t have the intent to kill. It would have taken him less than a minute to discover that Minnesota has a second-degree unintentional murder statue. He said it over and over and over again (as well as a myriad of other outrageously incorrect ‘legal’ takes) and he even had a long discussion with Brandon Tatum about it, presenting Tatum as an expert on the topic.
In fact, his videos on the Chauvin trial were so disastrously wrong I could write a dissertation on the subject.

It SEEMS to make sense... Until you look further. But that's what these guys RELY on to convince their audience. They know their audience most likely won't do any further research, they know how to present the numbers, statistics or facts in a way that favors their ideology - even if it's not the truth and they KNOW IT! As long as they present themselves as "credible" and give their audience information that feeds into the severe cognitive dissonance one would need to believe all this shit, because no one wants to confront the fact they've been lied to or they've been suckered... He has access to a computer, and he has buddies there who will also fact-check, but if you're the guest it's extremely difficult to do any fact-checking of your own. You can pull out your smartphone and do that, but that's A) not very efficient for research and B) makes you look weak optically.
I think it's pretty clear that the only reason he refuses to have conversations in any format other than in-person and in his studio is so that he can throw out as many obscure anecdotes as he wants, and the other person is unlikely to be able to refute more than a couple, if that. Plus, it gives an easy excuse to dismiss the guest as uninformed, given they have to keep admitting that they don't know about each anecdote Tim injects.

Ben is very nasally and smug so I have a hard time listening to him for an extended period of time. Tim Pool interests me because he branded himself as a disaffected liberal. He appears at first to be in the middle, but then iirc he argues there's no place for moderates in the Democratic party. They have been pushed to the Republican party because of the far left.
He does occasionally have good points, but I feel like those good points are often wrapped up with bad points. For example, he criticized Bernie Sanders for having no spine and for allowing the Democrats to walk all over him. He asked how are we to believe that Bernie would fight for us if he can't stand up for himself. This is a fine question. He also criticized Democrats for not taking Tara Reade's allegations towards Joe Biden seriously when they had a different reaction with Kavanaugh. I've made the same criticism myself. But then (I think it was in his Rose McGowen credibly accuses Bill Maher video) he takes a turn and says that the far left were the first to publicize the story, and the Democratic Party needs to cast out the far left because they're crazy and eat their own.

Preach it. Not proud of it, but right there with you. I had just been through a break up, and lost someone else important to me right around the time that the plague was descending, and so I was definitely a bit lost, and a bit vulnerable, But over the course of only a few months I was able to Wise up and see that he is seriously a bad actor. The titles of the videos on his channel read exactly the same today as they did two years ago. Constantly warning people about coming conflict and unceasingly harping on the potential of civil unrest. He knows exactly what he’s doing, he knows exactly who his audience is, he knows how to keep them engaged. I have been progressing left for years, and aside from this bit of a regression in early 2020, I’m more left than I’ve ever been. I’m still up for any civilized nuanced discussion, but honestly if you had talk to me 10 years ago I never would have believed that I could have gotten this far left. especially in terms of economics. I’ve always been fairly liberal on social issues, and for a short period of time even consider myself a libertarian/anarcho capitalist, (I know, cringe,) but if your serious about having nuanced discussions, exploring perspectives that differ from your own, (like I mentioned earlier,) you will undoubtedly, or at least should, experience some kind of change within yourself. It’s a tactic that a lot of conservatives like to use. Liberals claim they’re so open minded except for when it comes to my point of you. Well guess what, your side is just as guilty of that as anyone else, and as soon as I recognize that in myself, I resolved to walk that walk instead of just talking the talk and what do you know. Here I am supporting things like cancellation of student loan debt, universal basic income, socialized healthcare, etc. etc. And they say you’re supposed to get moreconservative the older you get.

That ~1 in a 1,000,000 chance of anaphylaxis is real. Which is why you have to wait around for 15 minutes after getting the vaccine... If someone does have that reaction, there are medical folks right there with the skills and tools (epi-pens) to treat it.

@Jean Sanchez Please feel free to point out any errors I have made. I welcome any suggestions on how to improve.
Just so you know, my focus is covering media bias across the spectrum from MSM to independents, left leaning and right.
Last summer I was covering how much liberal media was ignoring the violence and domestic terror events from their side, now I'm covering the right doing the same thing. They are all basically not covering the capitol breach. They covered it initially as a single story mostly. Then moved on to focusing on how the left is covering it or censorship.
Take a look for yourself and you will not see much if any continuing coverage, so nothing about:
      All the anti-semitism symbols seen
Interviews with cops who were attacked
Details about all the people who died and how they died and who they were
All the cops and military who were there
Details about potential insider job like people with maps
How Parler was used to plan it
      That there are STILL threats
Any discussion at all about racism (unless they are pointing out the left race baiting)
So in short, if you only watch right wing media, you won't know much details about the attack beyond what was knows in the first 2 days. This is JUST like how if you only watch left leaning media, you will not know much about all the domestic terror that happened last year. In fact ANTIFA is right now talking publicly about some very terroristic stuff even NOW but liberal media suppresses that.
