PragerU Is Conservative Junk Food

  • Another quick video, this time looking at PragerU, a channel I had always told myself I would never bother with. Well, here we are, trapped in a pandemic and me unable to get my exciting big videos out any quicker. So I guess it's PragerU time.
Here's a fun fact: The working title for this video was "PragerU vid I guess".
This video's structure is a bit weird, and I think my overall message is muddled. That said, it's a fun ride, and maybe some people will enjoy it. There is a dad joke in the cold open though, so fair warning if you're someone who reads the description before watching the video.
Thanks to Pop Arena for providing some voice work for this video! You can see his channel here: / poparena

      @noahsylvester1754 4 ปีที่แล้ว +29

"the left" is not a hivemind and neither is the right, whether you see it as the loud minority or not, the leftists that right-leaning people know are those that just oppose everything the right says/wants, for example the louder portion of leftists (whether that's the minority or not) is strongly accepting and generally all for white guilt/demonizing white cisgendered people as it's a common thought for you (leftists) that the majority can't be oppressed because there's either too many of them or that none of them get killed for their sexuality/skin color, which is wrong. (Also has minor genocidal undertones when the "too many of them" thing is said)
Another thing is the strong presence of pretentious atheists in the left, attacking people for their beliefs whether through social media or in public as a show of superiority over christians by making fun of them and explaining why what them and possibly several past generations in their family are objectively wrong and therefore stupid for believing in a higher power.
If you think bullying or other actions done online have no severe repercussions and essentially has no effect on the victim's thoughts then you would be wrong, a majority of what used to be public attacks on gays are now online and an equal if not greater amount of hate is pushed towards straights and whites and the perpetrators (generally left-leaning gays/transgenders/colored folks/self-hating white guilt people) through the mainstream media, tumblr, lefty twitter(aka most of twitter) and the less rational transgender side of youtube, all actively bashing what are now considered by a lot to be right-wing values(pride or atleast not being ashamed of being a white person, being straight and being a man)
my point being that denying online bullying for straight whites also negates most of the modern(atleast past 2 decades) "oppression" towards minorities unless you're a firm believer that "there's too many straight white men" essentially cementing yourself as someone who would possibly think "there could afford to be less of those" too.
But the vocal part of the left wouldn't see that as racism or genocide, because it's getting rid of the majority.
Note that everything I said "the left" does is also something that "the right" does too, only for the opposite things, other examples of similar or opposite behavior in both camps is treating the political opponent as if they were an NPC(mostly coined by the more narcissistic right wingers) or a russian AI(coined by the more narcissistic left), follow strong capitalist values, earning your money even if little of it by working for corporations that, need you be reminded, are what makes things like the internet work(for right wingers and most moderates left-leaning or otherwise) or follow strong socialist, communist or anarchist values because sometimes laws are too hard to follow or you just want to receive a thousand dollars deposit in your account every month regardless of whether you have legal status or not(for the vocal and far left)
I'm sure you'll find it obvious what my views are and think I'm disgustingly biased but I only mentioned most problems(not often believed to be problems by those who are causing them) caused by the vocal left because things like homophobia and racism against ethnic groups(non whites) are already discussed and acknowledged and even sometimes exaggerated severely whereas people deny heterophobia as even a word and coined the term "reverse racism" for hate attacks against whites when all it is is just plain racism, but the truth is while I don't believe socialism and admitting entrance to ILLEGAL immigrants(those who enter the country without the proper paperwork) is the right way to go and I do feel offended when I see people (notably LGBTQ members or people that have white guilt) encouraging the idea that straight whites are eligible for bullying due to there being so many or even sometimes worded as too many of us, regardless of those beliefs, I see that right wingers and left wingers are more often than not acting just the same, blaming eachother for stupid shit that some people in that specific camp do and treating it as though it was a completely left-leaning or right-leaning thing to believe. (examples such as liberals and progressives all believing that orcs and goblins are racist caricatures of black people and jews respectively or the belief that all right wingers are nazis and worship god)
Thank you for reading my essay, I hope it opened your mind on the unpopular idea that believing the other side of the political compass is a hivemind is objectively moronic and thought limited, I understand if not, it's hard for some right wingers to believe left wingers aren't all closeted racists and lazy communists just like it's hard for some left wingers to believe right wingers aren't all sexually attracted to guns and that they don't all secretly worship toothbrush moustache man as a god while wearing white hoods.

    • @noahsylvester1754

@@dean_l33 Obviously most of the negative online activism comes from the vocal left, ADL's attack on Steam defaming it as enabling white supremacy and transphobia is a recent example, another one would be the No Pixels for Fascists movement, the issue being that "fascist" in that specific case refers to all people who play videogames, be it a normal person that enjoys gaming or a youtuber that makes money off of it, however I think more specifically they refer to "straight white men who enjoy gaming", I don't believe it's too far fetched to see their message that way considering the "diversity" activists' core values have been to bash all semblance of straightness and male "toxicity" in entertainment, videogames or movies.
Funnily enough while it is still obviously left-leaning activism, cries for diversity are almost always done by white guilt allies of the LGBTQ+ who are often straight.

When I was little, a girl in my family’s circle used to always tickle me. I hate being tickled so I didn’t like it. I finally got fed up and decked her in the face when she kept doing it. She cried about it; I got spanked for punching her. Then, when I saw her again a couple weeks later, she was upset because I refused to acknowledge her.
Today’s right-wingers remind me of her. They antagonize, cry about it when people fight back, and then wonder why nobody likes them.

Look, you're entitled to say your ideas, but we're allowed to dislike them, and we are most certainly allowed to be "uncivil" about it. If someone proposes an outrageously racist/transphobic notion, we are allowed to respond with outrage. Of course, we can't respond with violence or threats of violence, but we are allowed to get angry. Politics is not an emotionless subject, and we are allowed to express emotion.
And no, nobody's party believes that all ideas are equal. No one believes that. That would be stupid. That would be like saying 2 + 2 = 5 is just as reasonable as saying 2 + 2 = 4. Some ideas are just wrong. Even though its legal and no one can force you to not say "2 + 2 = 5", that doesn't mean everyone else should accept your statement.
No one should tolerate all ideas. But EVERYONE should not only tolerate, but respect all people. When you say something transphobic, you are not treating other peoples problems as real. You are attacking their identity, not their ideas. When you bring up some bullshit statistic on how black people commit more crimes to justify racism, you are attacking people, not their ideas. And while it is not illegal to say these, and free speech permits you to say these atrocious ideas, no one is required to believe these ideas or respect them.

@Kathy Kat the free speech hypocrisy that really surprised me was the reaction to Colin Kapernick. What happened to supporting free speech there? Or engaging in debate even if you thought his method of protesting was offensive or wrong? So much for simply wanting ideas to be heard.
Also the St Louis Police Union wanted punishment when Rams nfl players took the field with hands up dont shoot pose. Why was there no outrage from the right over a government union (that forced all police to pay dues whether they wanted or not) trying to silence people for simply "speaking their mind." This is one of the police departments that used the Punisher on their cars according to another Jose video.

Before I was even a leftist, it was always people on the right that would be dishing out the names. "Delusional", "sheeple", some form of a slur depending on the conversation, whatever floats their boat.
It's all projection with them. Honestly, while not every leftist treated me well on my path to leftism (in retrospect, I can forgive many of these, with myself unintentionally repeating talking points they probably heard a million times and rebutted with no avail, why put effort into responding to another rando), it's not difficult to pause, try to understand why what your saying comes off as bigoted or whatever, and reevaluate.
But self-reflection isn't really a thing on the right, not when it comes to ideology, and definitely not with their thought leaders.

I do not think it is in anyones interest to be *unduly* disrespectful, nor do I think you can change anyone's mind via any form of (aggressive, for lack of a better word) rethoric. Here is something which often works to combat hatred or fear of others: Get the person who experiences hatred to get to know a good person which otherwise would be arbitrarily hated. In argumentation, patience, careful attention and a willingness to concede to parts of a argument you may find you actually agree with yourself, is the most important thing to consider when trying to change minds. When you write on the internet, try to only engage seriously with those who themselves argue from a serious position. That being said, I doubt I always follow these rules (or maybe more correctly, I do not always apply them when I should, in the sense that I do not always engage with those who might need to be engaged) yet I believe it is the best option. but you get that "lower taxes", "small government" etc. in a rw/conservative context don't actually mean those things materially, right? (e.g. "small government" means less government involvement in white guys buying guns, but _more_ government involvement in people being allowed to have abortions; "lower taxes" doesn't just mean "poor people pay lower taxes", it also means "rich people pay _much lower_ taxes, and also spending has been cut for public services that poorer people are reliant on"). these things aren't "intolerant" based on a superficial reading of the language that right-wing political orgs have specifically chosen to refer to them, but they sure as shit are intolerant (of poor people, of black and minority ethnicity people, of women, of queer people, etc.) when you scrape the paint off and actually look at the effects such policies have in the real world.
just look at "war on drugs" (read: disproportionately targeting black people for weed possession while secretly funnelling crack into the ghetto) or "tough on crime" (read: ignoring scientific analyses of prisons and recidivism; giving cops free reign to harass or murder black people)

But then you realise it’s 40 min long, and you can’t devote that time in that moment to fully commit your focus for 40 minutes and you end up forgetting to watch it. So short vids are cool. That being said, I can’t wait for your next long deep dive, it sounds awesome. Can’t wait for that book review either.

The other response conservatives can have to their views being labelled as transphobic, racist, etc. is simply accept that they are and say they are okay with it. However, they can never do that because they don't want these labels. Instead they make videos claiming, their ideas being called transphobic, racist, etc, does not actually mean anything and actually proves others are intolerant of them.
The only other response is for them to learn why what they believed or said is transphobic, racist, etc. and change point of view or understanding. (This change can happen slowly sometimes but even giving up a little ground immediately is a good sign the person is only not full educated on the topic)
I think the left has trouble talking with people less educated on topics of 'wokeness' because we, as the left, are so defensive and cautious of those with intolerant view points. We know how dangerous these ideas are and that those who hold them truly are okay with consequences spreading that view point can cause.
However, many people simply don't have the same education on leftist ideas and philosophies. This is why it is better to label a person's idea as intolerant not the person themselves. Calling people intolerant can turn away those who just do not know why what they said is harmful. But if we say that view is transphobic because x,y,z, it keeps communication more open.
Obviously, once you learn someone is educated on the facts and simply does not care it is fine calling them transphobic, racist, etc. because there is no way to change their mind.

Old video, but I just wanted to comment about one thing stated here. Self Plagiarism is actually a thing in academia and it is just as serious as general plagiarism. The issue with plagiarism is not just in stealing other people's work, but in not creating something new/novel to be critiqued. My brother recently wanted to copy a forward that he himself wrote in a dissertation and discovered that he would be in deep trouble for doing so.
All this to say that, PragerU isn't just being lazy by copying their own work, they are doing something that academia would throw them out for. Not really surprising considering the logic they attempt to use to prove their points.
