Monuments ORIGIN OF ESCAPE The Decomposer Lounge Reaction and Dissection
Just for some extra info Monuments, Tesseract and Periphery are all pretty close.
Monuments guitarist(John Browne) and Tesseract guitarist(Acle Kahney) used to be in a band called Fellsilent.
Also Monuments ex vocalist(Chris Baretto) used to be in Periphery.
There are lots of shows they've done together and also filled in for each other if members had whatever issues.
Monuments drummer (Mike Malyan) just recently filled in for Tesseract drummer(Jay Postones) when they did their live stream called Portals.
Respect from The UK, 0121! 🤘🏼
Chris Barretto also played Saxophone on Tesseract's Altered State and Spencer Sotelo from Periphery did guest vocals one one of Monument's tracks
Jon Anup used to be the drummer of Monuments before they put out Gnosis I believe
@@RebelKicks-mn4kc Anup took over from Mike when he had to take time out for his health, I don't think he was in Monuments before
The Holy Trinity of Djent.
BRUUUH Anup Sastry recorded this album how dare you!
lol
Loooove this tune. I, the destroyer is also great. Keep it up man.
Hell yeah dude! For some reason this made me want you to check out Native Construct. They are VERY theatrical, and just a bunch of kids who graduated from Berkeley, inspired by between the buried and me.
You can do the track Passage. You'll dig it.
These guys are in my top next to TESSERACT for riffs and grooves, they are just so instrumentally good
The guitarist of Monuments and the guitarist of Tesseract used to be in the same band together
About the 'separate meter'
John Browne (the main driving force behind the writing) really likes Meshuggah and uses one of their signature rhythmical concepts very frequently which is the 4/4 but the riff is an odd-time phrase that just keeps spinning around that 4/4 meter. Yogev Gabay calls this the Host and Guest concept, you can check out his video on the topic in your own time! Great reaction and insight as always 🙂
I always call these thing cycle riffs.
I feel something missing after Olly left the band…there’s just something missing in the writing
Well this is a pleasant surprise…never thought youd react to Monuments. By far my favourite TH-cam composer ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
So far the playlist he has created is pretty darn good :)
The album that this song is from, The Amanuensis, is a masterpiece. You should check out their song Atlas next.
It's a concept album, it is a story about a boy Sam who destroys the world and Sara creates the world. This story repeats itself, over and over. The album begins and ends in the same key as well.
Gotta do Vildhjarta - Den Helige Anden. You might lose your mind listening to it. You never get comfortable listening to them. Always keeping you on your toes with the main instruments but bringing very ethereal ambience to create an absolutely huge sound
I'd love to see them here, but would really recommend it to be any other Vildhjarta's song tbh. I feel like Den Helige is a filler and not representing this band's composing ability, just feels choppy to me, like a bunch of old riffage (no pun intended 😅). All these feelings or Längstmedån will do, I guess
carbomb as well
Came here to recommend exactly this! Would love to see a reaction to that song
He should do eternal golden monk or dagger instead, fucking rad songs
All These Feelings is arguably their best song, or The Lone Deranger. Both show their style extremely well.
This suggestion will probably get lost, but for a new up and coming band making waves in this genre, try out VOLA. Tracks like "Head Mounted Sideways", "Napalm", "Alien Shivers" and "24 Light Years" should all be interesting and original to digest.
YES YES YES
VOLA are amazing.
The current vocalist of Monuments, not on this track though, is also in a band with Nik Nocturnal, I believe you mentioned watching a video or two from him here on TH-cam. The band's called Termina, you could check out "The Edge of Time" from the last album?
dude thank you for the info. gonna check that out forsure. cheers!
Between the Buried and Me - Selkies: The Endless Obsession
Please and thanks you.🙏🤞🦥😀
UPVOTE THIS BOYS
There's so many better songs by BTBAM to deconstruct. Selkies is *okay* until it gets to the end section, where it's just Paul's most uninspired sweeping of their entire discography. In my opinion Selkies is the worst song on Alaska - not a bad song, I just don't understand the hype when almost every single other song they've ever written is more interesting. It's just Dream Theatre Lite when BTBAM is so much more than that, even just on Alaska.
Geebz could check out Alaska or Camilla Rhodes from that era of BTBAM - both are way more interesting compositionally.
This whole album is INSANE. Genuinely one of my favorites in this genre. Really hope to see you check out DRIFT by ERRA, also EYE OF GOD by ERRA!
Should really do a reaction to Tesseract - of matter, the live session is just outstanding
Vildhjarta already
Please can you do a review for British band 'Enter Shikari - Zzzonked' :D
Really need to get into some more modern metal bands like this. More Tesseract, Norma Jean, Every Time I die, Hundred Suns, . Would also LOVE to see some Soilwork on here. Underrated band
If you ever get to Soilwork, This is a perfect starting song and very recent. th-cam.com/video/6nPhoAscZdI/w-d-xo.html
Fuck yes, love me some Soilwork. They have stayed so consistently good throughout the years.
And fit for an autopsy!
You have got to do Vildhjarta, completely underrated group that really knows how to make use of accents, empty space, and extended passages. Top tier quality in my opinion.
The vocalist is in another band that I think you'd really enjoy, Ever Forthright. I recommend "Screen Scenarios" by them. Lot of fun surprises I think you'll enjoy (I won't spoil them here)
You have to listen to this entire album. It's an incredible story. Follows 2 characters and their journey of creating and destroying the world. This album also begins and ends in the same key, so you can just play it on repeat.
Yeeeeehaaaaaa.
If You do Monuments, You HAVE to do Uneven Structure as well.
Awaken/Frost/Hail or Funambule
My entire 2014 just called and asked for it's music back.
Would love to see you react to anything from Riverside, they are an amazing prog rock band from Poland.
I second this
Monuments are heavy af yet so uplifting. It's always fun to listen, thank you for the video.
You absolutely have to react to Into the Hellfire by Lorna Shore!
Absolutely this
It'd be really cool to watch you breakdown The Lone Deranger by Vildhjarta
I'm going to suggest Vildhjarta Eternal Golden Monk or All These Feelings if you're interested in this Djent sound
Yesss, more modern metal, thank you for checking out bands like this.
SKYHARBOR.....please!!!! Songs to check out: *Catharsis, *Celestial, Maeva, Out of Time, Sythetic Hands
Love your stuff man! Awesome seeing you do Monuments.
To touch on the bit you were talking about with the guitar tone: they actually tend to quad track most of their stuff, as opposed to the more standard hard-panned doubletracking thing many modern metal bands do. The guitarists are just crazy-tight rhythmically and can get away with 4 stacked takes on every part without getting transient flams, and the result is that fat tone and bigger-than-typical stereo field you noticed.
if you like cut times, drum fills and this song in general, you totally need to listen and react to Marigold by Caligula's Horse
That song is so good.
Finally some monuments! Amanuensis is an amazing album
Omg yes. Couldn’t click fast enough. For my money the best record in all of djent.
From Monuments’ album The Amanuensis my favorite track is Garden of Sankhara… incredible songwriting. You gotta check out their new singles Animus, Deadnest, and Lavos. They’re extremely well written and they debut their new vocalist Andy Cizek - phenomenal vocal range and control
It's interesting that they used a Middle Eastern beat with the guitars.
Still pushing for Andrew WK's "Babalon", "I'm In Heaven" and "Everybody Sins."
"Atlas" definitely needs a react. "Jinn" is another really cool track off the same album!
Love to see you reacting to this awesome band! If you wanna talk a little more about syncopation, you should really check their track 'Quasimodo'. It's a beast in terms of groove.
Anyway, great analysis as always, great work overall! :)
“Is it a meter or syncopation?” I think that’s why I have problems playing bass with people lol. Please do a first listen on Silversun Pickups if you can. I like “Songbirds” off there new album.
Heck yeah man, was not expecting this one but glad you got to it! The entire album is a masterpiece from start to finish (the cover art is even part of the story it tells), but if you want picks from it to check out next, the tracks I, the Creator and I, the Destroyer really gives you an idea of what's in between them. Also going to plug "Onda" by Jambinai ("Jam", like a jam band) again, in case it got filtered but also because you'll hopefully enjoy them as much as you did these guys.
Nicely surprised by you reacting to Monuments. It is quite a good Djent band, adding some clever pop elements through the singer. And John Brown on guitar is very underrated both as musician and songwriter.
Check out Dir En Grey - Vinushka, pleeeeeeaaaaaase! :) ;)
Acoustic suggestions: Sevendust - Come Down, Twelve Foot Ninja - Kingdom, Zakk Wylde - Machine Gun Man
get some dali thundering concept or one of the live techfest slice the cake ones
John Browne the god damn Riff Lord.
Please do Relentless Mutation by Archspire, or any of their songs from the 2017 album, they're all insane and amazing!
Aviations - Outliers (Retrospect) 🤘 It's just on the horizon I can feel it. 😁
MONUMENTS, sigh, a diamond...
Great band and the atmosphere their music beathes is phenomonal.
Always dig your enthusiasm Geebz! Makes (almost) every video entertaining to watch, even when you are decomposing tracks I do not like.
🤘
How's the shoulder? According to your airdrumFILLS it seems ok? 🙃
I saw Origin and thought “here we go!!!” but I had read it wrong.
Oh boy. I'd love to see him do Origin - Saligia and just watch his facial expressions. :)

Jinjer - Vortex
Their song "I, The Destroyer" is absolute genius. So much to dissect.
Oh yea! Monuments are great musician I love their music. Sounds very unique. Im glad you listen to them. But well now let's watch video :D
Holy crap that was so unexpected! They have some bahaha-angers(bangers)
I know it's not personal when you can't get to our requests, just always trying to get you back to Caligulas Horse with their song Dream The Dread. It's a nice in between from Slow Violence which you did, a simple radio like single song, and Graves, their 16 minute grand opus. It's so packed with emotion and the transitions musically are to die for. Much love always!
NIN: Survivalism
Them Crooked Vultures: Scumbag Blues
Mars Volta: Goliath
Forgot they existed haha, guess it’s monuments on repeat for the rest of the week! Great video as always geebz!
Not sure if you listen to requests. but I think you'd really enjoy Glassjaw. Cheers.
such an underrated band
Listen to Carcass - Noncompliance to Astm F899-12 Standard?
no..fucking..way. my mans did monuments....you always cheer me up dude.
Yes finally got monuments on here!!!!!!! From the Amanuensis album👌👌👌🙏thank you.
"Reckoning" by Landmvrks (Landmarks)
QUEENSRYCHE is a great band ... please check them out... preferably something from the Geoff Tate and Chris Degarmo years
Definitely check out there new single Cardinal Red. Amazing song
Osom! Dude you have to check Pain of Salvation! Undertow or King of Loss! aloha!
You should react to Vektor - Cygnus Terminal.
Incredibly good sci fi epic.
Monuments needs alot more love!!!
Monuments actually died as a band after their first album. So, there's no point in listening this. You should listen to their first album, any track.
Are there 2 different guys screaming/growling?
Thorns Of Crimson Death by Dissection.
To The Hellfire - by Lorna Shore
Absolutely boggles the mind.
I've been sending you links all this time lol
Please check DESTRAGE (progressive weird metal)
Great live band! saw them with 'sleepmakeswaves'
Recognizing that the guitars are not 100% L/R is amazing, Browne actually panned the guitars 95% or 98% L/R, so never fully 100%
Wouldn’t it be badass if your uncle or neighbor was Geebz.
Brendon Small / Galaktikon - Rebuilding a planet. It will blow your mind!!
Best band ever! Monumentalist right here
Ihsahn “Frozen Lakes on Mars” is right up your alley for a review.
th-cam.com/video/QpluTn_bPXI/w-d-xo.html
Yeah buddy! Good analysis. I think you should check out Inferi - The Promethean Kings
I was hoping you would do a video for BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME : FIX THE ERROR...I think you will dig it..love ur vids 👌
Mastodon… also Kvelertak, Extol, Azusa, Indukti, Revocation… and a silly little band called the Aquabats… to name a few bands I’m convinced you’ll enjoy. Blessings!
Same colored shirt today. Well 2 days ago for you ...
🥳🖖
If you enjoy the music. Your a metal head. That's all it requires.
AWWWRIGHT!!
If you like these kind of vocals, then you MUST check out Means End! Check out "Magnanimous" or "To Love", or ANYTHING else by them! They have an AMAZING cover of "Nox Aurumque" as well!! Another amazing band that's similar is Pangaea and anything from their album "VESPR"! Thanks, Geebz!!
Aloha!!
HOW THE FUCK DID I MISSED THIS FFS!!!.
I had the pleasure of watching them live with Periphery on 2019, probably the best fucking showman I have ver seen is Barreto, I just love his live performances.
I am once again asking you to listen to Northlane - Bloodline
Yes!!! Finally some Monuments in the channel!!! You should totally do more Monuments songs, this is the band that got me into "djenty" bands!!!
Much love from Barcelona!
I love this song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I the destroyer next!!!!! Band is soo underrated. They are 🔥
One of the videos i automatically like before Geebz starts talking because of the band and/or song
Can I get some support for Veil of Maya-craw back? Or anything from The Common Man’s Collapse
Good analysis geebz
Please react to something off their new album, In Stasis. There isn't a bad song on the album but I'd recommend Cardinal Red, False Providence, Opiate, Collapse or Makeshift Harmony. ... Okay so that's basically the whole album lol I can't pick just one.
For a tasty nasty bass heavy funk jam you should check out Muse - Hysteria
You love the bass? You love this song. 😀
Awwwwright!
Heck yeah! Groove masters. Yeah any Vildjarta or Tesseract would probably blow your mind just a little bit more haha.
This is one of my favorite track from Monuments
Geebz, watch the John Browne (guitarist for Monuments) playthrough for the song Doxa he did for EMG pickups. The guitar technique is is incredible and will blow your mind. The song is good but you have to watch the video
Angel or Alien by Born of Osiris. Layering.of varied vocals and beats and actual synth that stands out metal wise.
I fucking love your song and genre choices for this channel ♡
hey Key there's a group from argentina call invisible, they make some jazz rock fuzzion from 70's and I'll love to listend this whit your's comments thks!
Glad you shoulder is better. Then intro sounded like you could play it backwards and hear something. 9:38 like bob dylan.
You should do some more clowcore. I'd suggest their song computers.
Please Listen to☺
Powerwolf-blood for blood
Applying That Guy like tenacity for my request. I'll be all up in the comments from here on out folks!
Huge Hammers - The Safety Fire
There are TWO reactions on TH-cam to them. We don't need another Devin Townsend at EMGTV.
Two of my favorite drummers have recorded with this band and one of them is in the band currently I believe. Anup Sastry and Mike Malyan who both deliver gold on anything they touch!
