      hey, if you havent yet and you enjoy prog.. Check out the album "demon" by gazpacho. Its not thrashy metal as some of the other bands ive seen you react to but the album front to back is amazing. Since its prog, the album is themed and is about a journal found in an abandoned historic building in Prague that was written by a madwoman. The album is a journey of self exploration, oscillating between christian ideology and schizophrenia. The author of that journal was clearly disturbed and the album truly is like a movie in music form bc it inspires those feelings, wondering "am i possessed by a demon, or just insane?" And on some level i think most people grapple with some type of intellectual spiritual discovery. Listen in the dark at your own peril. 🤙

    It's funny you mention Tesseract because Browne the lead guitarist from Monuments and Acle the lead guitarist from Tesseract were in a band called Fellsilent before they broke off to form Monuments and Tesseact.

    Sorry for the spam all these months, glad you got around to them and enjoyed it!
    "Quasimodo" off Amanuensis is an absolute BANGER. The whole album is, but that track just especially slaps hard like "Origin of Escape".
    "Deadnest" is their newest track with Andy that is awesome also, if you want some good material with the new singer. Cheers Drew!

    This vocalist Chris Barretto (not sure on spelling) actually was the og vocalist for Periphery I believe. He did some writing with them but never officially released anything with them I'm pretty sure. Kind of interesting!

      @sickness420 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Origins of escape is good, but oh man if you aren't about to get dropped on your head by some of the other songs. There isn't a bad song in their whole catalogue, in my opinion. My personal picks from "The Amanuensis" are "Quasimodo" and "Saga City" - "Gardens of Sankhara" and "Horcrux' are great as well.

    GOTTA check out Fellsilent. The parent of Monuments and Tesseract…important band in the Djeny scene IMO.
    On another note- I’d recommend checking out Grorr. They’re a cool French prog/djeny band that incorporates Asian instruments here and there. If not on the channel, then just on your own!

    • @DocturNull
      @DocturNull 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      FINALLY another person who even knows Grorr, let alone appreciates their unique style and approach to their music, and that style of music in general. Those cats are something else, and sadly, as far as I know so unknown. Same with Sikth, basically the actual godfathers of "Djent" besides Periphery. Sixth is so god damn good and wild as hell

      @@DocturNull Grorr are great! I don’t really know their history or part in the Djent but I REALLY love their instrumentation and storytelling atmosphere they create in their music.
      I love Sikth as well. As I got into heavy music, Djent really started taking off so I really like a lot of the older groups- early Born of Osiris, After the Burial, obviously Meshuggah, early Vildharta, and early Veil of Maya. I feel most of these bands had early tech deathcore sound but applied some groove…also a reason why I appreciate Grorr, they were pretty different IMO.

    • @DocturNull
      @DocturNull 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ckokomo808 Grorr just had that sound around that time and basically were pretty unknown, not much to know I suppose, haha. But definitely, their instrumentation and composition, along with the storytelling nature, are just amazing.
      As far as getting into metal it was earlier than that time a bit, but found meshuggah very quickly, even when I first got into heavy stuff. And great taste, gotta say haha. Early BOO and VoM are where it's at for those guys honestly. And fuck YES Vildhjarta. Love those insane swedes so much, and their style. Can't wait for the new album, whenever the hell it actually comes out, hah. So glad Buster of Humanity's Last Breath joined a while back. Became a huge fan of HLB around the time of their second album, I believe? Maybe first "official" album I guess. But regardless, the evolution of them has been insane, and knowing how he could write on both guitar and drums, and being a drummer first, I was hyped to hear the news. Now getting those drum playthroughs are even better. Dude is just a machine, with everything.

    As someone already said, you should Definitely check "Atlas" and "Quasimodo". This last one is a freaking beast in terms of groove.
    And just to let you know some facts: Chris Barretto was originally the singer of Periphery, way back, before they released their first album.
    Moreover, Barretto is not only an amazing singer... But also happens to be a sax player, and you can hear him playing in Tesseract "Altered State" album.

    No shade to Andy. His work in the band (and the other projects) is some really good stuff, but I can't lie, Chris has a really unique voice well suited to this genre. "Celeste" is my favorite rn probably. And then w their old vocalist (prior to Chris), "Regenerate" is some good shit.
