You are so right - I am with you on some of your struggles but that's part of the success when on all is said and done. Thank you for all of the information that you have shared with us.
Aaron.. Congrats. Partnering with Tandy. Your templates are the best and now you'll get them out to a lot of new leatherheads. I've purchased many of them from you and they're spot on.
Just made my first Dopp kit along with this video, a couple pointers for anyone doing the same: •definitely get some double sided tape for this • I made my strap more like 6 inches for my handle so it wouldn’t stick out so much (just experiment) • I also stuck my handle down with tape, then stitched it in before stitching the whole side closed (it just gave me peace of mind knowing it wouldn’t come loose) have fun!
I love the idea of lining with a thin fabric. It allows for personality and personalization without being over the top and flashy. I just got several templates, including this one at Tandy today. I can't wait to see how they come out being 100% hand sewn. If you pushed your awl all the away through you wouldn't have the issue with the needles not fitting into the stitching hole from one side because the holes will be opened wider and more evenly. I'm looking forward to Tandy Leather's project corner so I can use their sewing machines and the other expensive equipment for my projects.
Just made one and I kinda taped the zipper and strap of leather a little off. Didn't notice till I tried sewing the 2 corners first 😅 at the end had a bit of tape showing, should've put it a little more down from the seam. Other than that I'm still proud of myself. Video helped out a lot. Thank you!
Awsome tutorial brother, bandana lining looks 1st class, I actually just popped onto your channel looking for ideas for lock pick cases, this is very inspirational. Thankyou , have a good one
I tell you all I have is a class 4 Cobra & it is sometimes pretty hard for stitching something like this. I wished I could find a good used smaller machine for these smaller items. My old hands just don't work good enough anymore to stitch them by hand. Maybe I should retire. But then I wouldn't have anything to make me mad except my wife, lol.
I wish you offered digital versions of some of your templates. Acrylic is cost prohibitive for me in a lot of cases. The few acrylic templates I have I still trace with an awl and cut out. Trying to hold a template down and cut around it does not work for me. I love the list of Tandy supplies to use on this project and you use none of them. Lol. I get it you’re running a business and you use what you sell. And I’m not knocking Tandy either I buy stuff from them as well as from you and other suppliers.
Heya Aaron. Thank you for the tutorial. Vet to Vet, i'll be honest to say it was painful to watch you struggle with this bag. In my observation of your video, it may be better to use 6-7oz veg tan and dye it than the leather you chose unless the person will be using a sewing machine. I had hand surgery last November and no longer have the strength and dexterity required to push and pull like you did. Not to say everyone is the same as me but that leather looks hard to manipulate. 👍😉
its to bad the video has different measurements that what the package says on veg tan length.. package says 25 in and you just said cut them to 17 in ea. 2 x 17 is 34 vs 25. plus that doesnt even include the handle.. very misleading on package.

I just made this today from your acrylic pattern. It was so easy to follow along with the video
I made so many bags after watching this video. Thank you for sharing. I just don´t have a sewing machine yet.
Get one, they're cheap and awesome, nothing newer than 72, all metal only....go

PS... I ordered mine already..... Looking forward to you using the puzzle style for the larger templates that you don't ship now.

Just purchased the kit. What's the overall size of the pattern. For rough cutting the leather before hand.
I think, you might want to iron the cloth fabric before applying the glue to ensure it is wrinkle - free and lays totally flat.
