    Just made this. Very useful and straightforward! Note-- if you do not have a reversible zipper, then in the first steps when you adhere the zipper to the outer fabric, make sure the zipper teeth face DOWN into the outer material

    Just discovered this video yesterday. This was by far the best and easiest tutorial on TH-cam. I made mine out of leather, was a little harder and everything hand stitched, but it turned out so good! it looks like it’s bought from a high end store. Thanks again sir, I followed everything to a “T” and I was not disappointed. 👌🏾
    I appreciate you posting this video. I will probably buy one of your dopp bags just to support, because I was so astounded somebody actually put up a free tutorial and didn’t try make money from it. You the real MVP John Crane.

    I absolutely love making this bag! I made 2 of them a few years ago for my older boys who were going away to work at summer camp for the summer, and today I came back to your video and made one for my third son going away to work at the same camp for the summer. Thank you for the clear instructions that I could easily follow along with.

    Wen Model 100 Soldering Gun.......I have one too, I think mine might be even older than yours, it has slotted screws holding the case together whereas yours has Philips and my trigger seems to be a darker burgundy..........As long as you don't run them over or something I think they last forever.

      I am pretty handy & crafty. think I will try to make a “hot knife” like you made. You made it took so easy. The hard thing may be finding the heat gun. I found some blades on Amazon.I have one of the straight type of irons- a curling iron shape. Would I be able to use that or do I need the gun that has 2 rod ends?

    Nice video. Just a word of advice. Keep an eye on that stamp. You really should grind the mushrooming off where you hit it with the hammer. Otherwise eventually a piece will break off, usually at very high speed, like a bullet.

    • @RightOnJonCrane
      @RightOnJonCrane  ปีที่แล้ว

      Very true! That does need a trim. It got a lot of use stamping over 400 steel bunk bed parts I did for a big job. Hasn’t gotten touch up in a while. And come to think of it, I’ll cut that whole handle off and weld on a new solid bar. The piece on there now is hollow. It was just what I had around in the scrap bin when I made it. Thanks for watching!

    I am just a few minutes into this video and I have never seen your videos before and you just took the zipper pull off of the zipper and now I am a little horrified and also fascinated to see how you resolve this fatal dilemma. I know it must be resolvable, but I don’t know how.
    I am going to be making one of these bags for my husband and I’m planning on using denim from a pair of jeans that I made him give me after he ripped them in an unfortunate area that was not repairable. I already used the top part to make myself a skirt so we’ll see how the rest of this goes.

    • @RightOnJonCrane
      @RightOnJonCrane  ปีที่แล้ว

      Right On! 🙌Thanks for watching! It all depends on the zipper. Some have a top and bottom and some can go either way. If the teeth have a direction the bottom should out before sewing. Then flip the bag inside out. It is nice to get those two way zipper then there is no worries. Hope that helps!

    Very nice clase I have a question if I want a bag finish size 15L x8W x7H what will be the started measurement to get this size? Thank you for your help John

      Hi Nohora 😃 I will have to look at my pattern and make some calculations. I know the pattern in the video makes a bag that is 10x5x41/2 tall. I’ll check the pattern and get back to you. Thanks for watching 👍✨

    I was wondering how you got that 206 to stitch so slow then I saw the Jack shaft reduction. Great video. Thanks :)

      Right On! 👍 Thanks. Yes it’s been great to have this machine running slow and strong 💪
      Great for leather and detail work. Can still move pretty fast too.

    The way you put that zipper in is ingenious! The other "normal" patterns I have require a seam in the bottom of the bag, which I wanted to avoid. Viola, I found this video, purely by accident. Sometimes it takes the inner workings of a man's brain...

    Do you think waxed canvas will be ok for the outside and waterproof canvas for the inside? Thanks for the video

    • @RightOnJonCrane
      @RightOnJonCrane  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes that is certainly a combination that would work. I like waxed canvas. Some waxed canvas can be a little sticky at first. Can collect dust. All depends where you will use it. Thanks for watching and your feedback! Right On! 🙌

    I noticed several questions about zipper placement, I wasn’t clear whether the zip teeth were placed facing up on the outer fabric. Zip teeth are always placed down toward the outside of the fabric so that when it’s sewn and flipped, the teeth are up and the outside of fabric is up.

    ok, muito bom. porém, no 43:58 aparece uma vermelha com duas cores. onde 1/4 dela é escuro. saberia dizer a medida para costurar a emenda? para dobrar na forma correta?

    Hello Jon: I have a question if I may. I noticed your corners are a bit rectangle, any reason for this step? Wish I had a space like yours for crafts !LOL BTW I love that knot. Thanks for the video.

      @RightOnJonCrane  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right On! 👍✨ Glad you like the video and the knot! Yes I like those corners but feel free to sew the corners on an angle if that looks good on your bag! Always fun to change it up! 🙌
