Lower chairs and toilet seats are great exercise support for squatting! I understand the need for aids but it’s also important to not be dependent on them or to miss out on training and development because of using them!
Our solution for Mom in a small bathroom: I bought a fold away RV grab bar, intstalled two feet in front of her and it gave her pulling strength to help off the throne! Folds out of the way!
I have RA and Fibro plus I had double knee TKR. I used a raised seat that you place over your toilet seat after my surgery. I also have a grab bar on one side (the only wall available). When my mom had issues standing up we got her that chair that lifted her up slowly. We were so blessed bc we couldn't have afforded one back then but we contacted our local Goodwill and someone had just donated one. God provided. Please thank Bob for all these tips. ❤🙏🙏🙏
Thanks for sharing! So happy you found someone kind enough to donate, this is why we need to pay it forward as much as possible. It can really make a difference in someone's life!
Good tips but still difficult for me even with the grab bars as I have severe arthritis in both of my shoulders, and will eventually need at least one replacement but I don’t know if I’m ready to commit to that.
There are grab bars on the market that look more like nice decorative fixtures rather than clinical grab bars. Most of the home improvement centers carry them and they can be ordered online and are made by reputable companies like Moen, etc - And they are not expensive
This OT often recommends pushing up from adjacent vanity, from toilet. Every case is different and people might benefit from OTEval and treat. Prefer diagonal GB pulling up from toilet so pt gets better angle of pull as they're getting more upright. A transfer pole near a recliner can assist with sit stand , and avoid losing strength from using dreaded lift chair
The best way to stand up from the seated position EASILY with no assistance is to energetically lean forward from the waist. You can include reaching forward with arms extended for greater counterweight to the seated position. This counterweight and forward thrusting motion will bring your body forward and your hips off the seat with little effort. You will then be off the seat and bending from the waist while bending your knees. You will rise without using your muscles! From there bend your knees forward some and then straighten them while thrusting your hips forward, and straightening your back as you stand up completely - kinda like someone grabbing your legs and whipping your body upwards. Sure works for me!
All well and good for your own toilet. But in a public restroom? Frequently there is no help. I put my hand on the toilet seat behind myself & push up to stand. Then wash hands vigorously! Btw, they make a folding handle that folds down & extends from wall behind the toilet past the sitters knees. When folded down, it provides a strong handle to lean on. European bathrooms have them.
Yes, you have to remember that when there's storms and such that causes power to go out. It's a problem in nursing homes and assisted living places as well.
TH-cam is being strange. I just watched this vid, and then closed the page. Went back to find it again under "history" which does show the vids I saw right before it, but this one is not showing up. Great vid , by the way.

Raise the chair and get a raised toilet seat! Works! Best for mobility especially after hip replacement!
Thanks for sharing!
Raised toilet seat with the arm rests is great!
Total knee replacement also
My mother-in-law has the same thing. Works like a charm.

Thank you so much for this one! I'm at the age where I'm less and less mobile and anything that teaches me how to cope is so helpful
Their suggestions are top notch.
Glad it was helpful!

Great tips! Hands on knees--I never even thought of that.
Happy we could help!
These are great, but do you have suggestions for sitting down on low toilets in places that have no grab bars? Thanks.
I will add this to our to do list!
Thank you! This can be a problem in public restrooms!
My kid's put high toilet seat on my toilet 🚽 works great for me 😁 also put side handrails in too.. love my New potty 😂❤
Great kids!

You're welcome, thank you for watching!
Oh my God!
The toilets are much much lower and getting even lower since turning 70.
😢❤
They're getting lower in public restrooms. I'm still in my 50's and have trouble with those. 😄
Right!
@@ChittarupaYoga Heaven forbid having to bomb from a higher altitude. I wonder how many paper roll holders have been ripped off the stall wall?
Good video!
Thanks!

Good luck with all of that.
Here are some more videos that may help you with that shoulder arthritis: www.youtube.com/@BobandBrad/search?query=shoulder%20arthritis
Good suggestions. I know some people who do these, and it works great.
Glad they work! Thank you for watching!

Should not lean on toilet tank. You can disrupt the seals on the bottom and cause terrible leakage.

2:35 Wouldn’t your right shoulder pop out of joint?
And if it’s a public toilet - because people don’t wipe the seat - that might not go over too well in the male area
I feel extremely lucky I have a sink right next to the toilet I reach into the sink and use that and pull myself up
Exactly!

Very true, a great point!
My mom struggled getting off the rides at Disneyland.
Oh yes, I can see where that would be difficult!
We had to rescue my mom from the lift chair when the power went out.

Unfortunately this channel has become an infomercial mode than it’s original purpose 🫤
