Where do your beliefs come from? There's a school of thought that sees religion as a mind virus that wastes the time and effort of human beings, but evolutionary biologist Bret Weinstein offers a more reasonable explanation: "belief systems have flourished because they have facilitated the interests of the creatures involved," he says. Religious people are evolutionarily fitter than non-believers, not because they are protected by a deity but rather because religion is a form of adaptive evolution. Religion is so widespread because it has massive survival advantages beneath the supernatural elements-that's what Weinstein refers to as "literally false and metaphorically true". For example, believing in heaven is literally false-there is no such place-but believing in it keeps your descendants in good standing in the religious community after you're gone, thus setting your lineage up to continue. The thought itself may be untrue, but the result of the thought is evolutionarily effective. "Despite the fact that human beings think that they have escaped the evolutionary paradigm, they’ve done nothing of the kind, and so we should expect the belief systems that people hold to mirror the evolutionary interests that people have," Weinstein says. For more from Bret Weinstein, visit bretweinstein.net.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    BRET WEINSTEIN:
Professor Bret Weinstein has spent two decades advancing the field of evolutionary biology with a focus on adaptive trade-offs. He has made important discoveries regarding the evolution of cancer and senescence as well as the adaptive significance of moral self-sacrifice.
He applies his evolutionary lens to human behavior in order to sketch a path through the many crises we face as a species. By confronting emerging authoritarianism, and abandoning the archaic distinction between political right and left, we can discover a new model of governance that frees humanity to seek a just, sustainable and abundant future.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    TRANSCRIPT:
Bret Weinstein: We have minds that are programmed by culture that can be completely at odds with our genomes. And it leads to misunderstandings of evolution, like the idea that religious belief is a mind virus, that effectively these beliefs structures are parasitizing human beings and they are wasting the time and effort that those human beings are spending on that endeavor rather than the more reasonable interpretation, which is that these belief systems have flourished because they have facilitated the interests of the creatures involved.
Our belief systems are built around evolutionary success and they certainly contain human benevolence, which is appropriate to phases of history when there is abundance and people can afford to be good to each other. The problem is if you have grown up in a period in which abundance has been the standard state you don’t anticipate the way people change in the face of austerity. And so what we are currently seeing is messages that we have all agreed are unacceptable reemerging because the signals that we have reached the end of the boom times, those signals are everywhere, and so people are triggered to move into a phase that they don’t even know that they have.
Despite the fact that human beings think that they have escaped the evolutionary paradigm they’ve done nothing of the kind, and so we should expect the belief systems that people hold to mirror the evolutionary interests that people have rather than to match our best instincts-when we are capable of being good to each other because there’s abundance, we have those instincts and so it’s not incorrect to say that human beings are capable of being marvelous creatures and being quite ethical.
Now I would argue there’s a simple way of reconciling the correct understanding that religious belief often describes truths that, in many cases, fly in the face of what we can understand scientifically, with the idea that these beliefs are adaptive. I call it the state of being literally false and metaphorically true. A belief is literally false and metaphorically true if it is not factual but if behaving as if it were factual results in an enhancement of one’s fitness. To take an example, if one behaves in let’s say the Christian tradition in such a way as to gain access to heaven one will not actually find themselves at the pearly gates being welcomed in, but one does tend to place their ...

Well, I want to say that religion doesn't save. A relationship with JESUS does. Religion is people seeking GOD, but GOD came to us in the form of JESUS. He is GOD being one with GOD as the Son of GOD. He loves you and cares for you. He said in (John 14:6) " I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man comes to the Father except through me." So basically there's 1 heaven, and 1 way to get there. Not our choice, his choice. You ask for direction to heaven, peace, love, fulfillment, grace, mercy...JESUS is that way. These foundations has been laid before the world began. I don't care how "good" someone may think they are, without JESUS it's all done in vain. So where the deception come from? The devils and demons. They know JESUS is that only way as he (Jesus)has power over them. Even over death, hell and the grave) which he conquered with his death on the cross and his resurrection. Satan comes to kill, steal, and destroy (John 10:10) but JESUS came to give us life and it more abundantly. Satan hates you. He wants you and your families dead. You are a very special person in the eyes of GOD because we are made in his image. Satan hates that and he uses things like religion to destroy us. Especially to keep you from being a JESUS follower. So he brings confusion to throw you off as to which religion is right. Beware, there are religious that use JESUS'name but has the wrong doctrines which doesn't save. (Mormons, Jehovah Witnesses, Catholics...) I've studied religion for years and seen the power of GOD move to validate his word the Bible is true. JESUS is the word of GOD (John 1:1). If you believe and put your Faith in this word, you will be saved. Will you receive JESUS today? He knows all about you. He loves you and he wants to give you the peace that passes understanding. If you want this JESUS, reply to my comment. Suicide is not the answer. Self help isn't the answer. JESUS is!

@@onepointtwo500 No, what I'm saying is that Satan is behind confusion. This bringing of many religions is inspired by him (the devil) to get people to go the wrong direction. He hates you. There's 1 Father GOD and one way to get to him. If you don't come correct (Direction or right doctrine and belief) then you will be rejected. The road that leads to eternal life is narrow JESUS said, and few be that find it. (Matthew 7:13-14) JESUS is the door to the narrow gate. (John 14:6) JESUS wants you saved, the devil wants you dead. Who then would possibly confuse you to go the wrong direction to ultimately go to hell? If you said the devil, right again. So devils and demons influences to kill, steal, and destroy because people are sinful. The devil is behind the sins, and the killing, stealing and destroying are his characteristics. See the connection? So yes, the devil uses us (humans) against ourselves when the real enemy is Satan and his demons. Hatred, lies, deceit, deception and things as such comes from the evil one. Then men do wrong and it gets into the hearts of men. That is why you have to be born again (John 3:7) to get cleansed from your sins and to get that new nature and new heart. Have you ever seen demons come out of homes or evil people at the name of JESUS? I have many times. Satan's agenda has been the same from the beginning. And from generation to generation, the people fall for it. It's nothing new to him. He's been doing it for thousands of years! So if you are Catholic and you are praying to Mary or the saints, you are being deceived by demons. JESUS doesn't do religion because religion can't save you. It has no power or authority within itself to save. JESUS saves. Why do you think the religious leaders of his day conspired to him to be put to death? Because they were evil and the devil can't handle the truth being the Father of liars (John 8:44)

I don’t think tribalism is what religions main purpose was, I think it was more the fact that people had no purpose in life and started to ask the big questions when suddenly someone had an idea to pull the biggest scam in the history of the world, the first Abrahamic religion, now it’s not all bad because it gave people a sense of morality and purpose, but people gotta move on and look to science for the answers because the only reason Greek mythology is called mythology is because science has proved it wrong, whereas modern day religion was specifically designed to be impossible to be disproved(i mean really, how are you going to disprove that?) so it never fell out of existence, especially considering how traditionalist follow the religions, we need at least 2 more centuries before religion is a thing in the past, hopefully we are able to disprove it one day although I doubt it lol

I am an atheist, but I was once a devout Christian of 17 years who was a pastor and I had a seminary education. I'm thankful for my religious upbringing because I approached religion with the desire to grow in true spirituality, compassion, and enlightenment in the most humble way.
Though I do not believe in any higher power now, I still live like a religious person in healthy ways. I live like I'm going to be judged by a fair god. Too many religious people live immorally even according to their religion, but they have so much faith that God loves them no matter what. And there are too many non-religious people who live immorally. To me trying to live ethically is what brings meaning to life. What's the point of living if I only live for myself selfishly? Nihilism and religious hypocrisy and religious dogma are viruses on this earth, but finding some version of enlightenment and personal growth is important in finding meaning in life.

    • @irishnich4456
      @irishnich4456 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Just by reading the description of heaven in Bible alone, I know right away the heaven is not real. John was given a magical rod to measure the city of heaven in Revelation, he specifically describes the wall of heaven being composed of jasper and the whole city is gold and the foundations of city walls being comprised of many precious stones and jewels and the streets are gold. This obviously sounds fairytale and scam but we must believe in order to be there. Religions requires us to have faith and lifetime of believing a promise of something which there's no evidence and that you won't actually get until after you're dead. On the other hand God allegedly gave us the gift of freewill (to believe it or not believe it) -- but this gift comes with a deadly threat. Believe it-- or be eternally burned in hell of fire. So how about that?

    • @DamonPlantaseed
      @DamonPlantaseed 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@irishnich4456 reading the description of something doesn't disprove it, it just describes something you haven't seen before.
Let's say you were a close friend of mine and I raved about how good a friend you were to me. A person hearing might think I was fabricating those claims, but that may only be because they'd never experienced such a friend. It doesn't disprove the existence of you.
Now continuing with that, this promise is not an empty one but one that is experienced through relationship with God. It's is when you really seek to know God and He reveals Himself to you that you understand the reality of Heaven. It is expressed in that relationship. The problem is we discredit something we never searched for and argue with people who's lives have been changed because of what they found. In all your claiming have you taken the time to truly seek God? To see for yourself if He is real?
And lastly we do have freewill. This planet will come to an end....now to use another example, if we were on a ship, and it were sinking and I told you the only way to survive is to get on with me you would in that moment have complete free choice. Though not joining me wouldnt pan out too well for you. The same is with God.
But why would God make that a choice is what you are probably asking. The God of the Bible is everything that is good. In order to have good, to have life we have to accept Him, we cannot ask to live good lives and remove all that is good at the same time. It's like cutting the power to your home and being angry when your light switch doesn't work.

      @irishnich4456 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@DamonPlantaseed "reading the description of something doesn't disprove it."
Yes it's true but we do have common sense, the description of heaven is obviously fantasy bound by human imagination because it is designed of earthly treasure to attract and fascinate ancient believers. Think of it and ask yourself of what is the importance or significance of literal streets of gold and walls of diamonds in heaven? what is the point? gold and diamonds are valued by mankind because of it's characteristics, it's beautiful, rare and hard to find but what is the worth of this earthly treasure with the likes of God? Imagine if the rocks on earth were diamonds and the soil were powdered gold, would you think people would still value these things? So in what sense that God valued gold and diamonds just like we do? What's up with his kingdom being made of precious stones?
For me the idea that the physical construction of heaven is made up of earthly treasure sounds too far-fetched.
On the other hand I wonder where did God lived before He created his own kingdom and its Angels? Did God just float in the vacuum of space for eternity prior to creation?
Furthermore as I investigate the idea of heaven and what's in it I realized that the Angels of God in heaven are armed with swords. I never understood why are Angels armed with sword?
So I did research and as what I've learned in my research, swords were first made of stone in ancient egypt around 2500 B.C. it is designed by human to cut flesh and organs, something Angels don't have since they are spiritual being; It is a silly notion to think that Angelic beings were using these man made tools.
If God, the creator of all things, and his Angels are powerful in nature why would they use man made tools? What is the point?
Here are some few verses from the Bible that mentioned Angels with literal swords.
      Numbers 22:31
"Then the LORD opened Balaam's eyes, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the road with his sword drawn. So he bowed low and fell facedown."
      1 Chronicles 21:27
"Then the Lord spoke to the Angel, and he put his sword back into its sheath."
It is said that their sword have sheath (probably made of leather) we all know that sheaths are swords protective cover designed to prevent swordsmen from getting cut by the blade, so in what sense that spiritual beings like Angels have swords with sheaths? why would they need all of these man made tools?
Furthermore as I deeply investigate the idea of heaven, I've learned that Angels are also using medieval musical instruments like harps, trumpets etc. etc. The Bible's description of musical instruments in heaven confirmed my doubts that the Bible scripture is nothing but an ancient book bound by human imagination rather than being divinely inspired. It happened that the Hebrews wrote about holy men and other people playing the lyre and other precursors to the harp, as, those instruments were growing in popularity since their adoption from Syrian culture. Surprisingly it coincidentally happened that Revelation 14:2 and Revelation 5:8 says these instruments is widely used in heaven itself, by the Angels! But was it really coincidence that heavenly beings play exactly the same instruments popular at the time? Why do the heavenly beings not play a piano or even more advance electronic musical instruments instead of medieval instruments like trumpets and harps?

I am inviting you to worship our creator and check the evidence of his existence.
I am just helping you to enter the heaven by worshiping the one who created you that deserves to be worshiped.
Our creator has put scientific, linguistic, metaphysical, and historical miracles in his book( the Holy Quran) that has sent down more than 1400 years ago to make people certain that this book is from a mighty powerful God.
our God has put a challenge for all non-believers to make one chapter like the Quran which has 114 chapters with its perfection, arrangement, metaphysical miracles, eloquence, splendor, wise legislation, true information, true prophecy, beauty, scientific miracles, and other thousands of miracles. along with history, all the attempts have failed.
Also, he almighty put The scientific miracles that includes The chemical composition of the human ( the clay ), the expansion of the universe, the knocking star, the origin of the universe, the orbits, the movements of the sun and the earth, the rotation of the earth, the stage of development of the only type of clouds that produce hail, the mountain as pegs, the vision in the deep seas, the variation of the amount of the air along the sky, the front of the head function, the chronological comparisons of developments of the fetus ( the bones, the body, the hearing, and the vision), the stage of the developments of the zygote, the only pain receptors, the factor that determines gender ( the sperm ), the secretion of the digestive fluid in the fly, the fertilizing winds, the mechanism of secretion of the milk, and the forbidden type of breeding ( between relatives ).
You check them to be persuaded. Also, You can study the other miracles.
But before doing anything, raise your hand asking your creator to help you, to guide your heart to the right path, to forgive you, to enter you the heaven, and to save you from the fire.
I hope you do what I asked for and accept Islam.

@@hossamtarek2272 There is no evidence of Gods existence.
Your Quran is not credible evidence either. When someone asks you how do you know your god is real, you claim that you know your god is real through the Quran. When they ask how do you know the Quran is real, you say that it is real because your god is real. But that poses a contradiction. All the Quran, the Bible, or the Torah has done is write down faith based claims for over a thousand years.
But making claims and proving them are two different things.
I could write about how my table levitates at night and then let my words be passed down through my book for centuries and it wouldn’t prove that my table really did levitate at night.
Stop making claims without proving them. Then more people might believe your religion. I am not saying there is no god. Nobody truly knows. What I am saying is that there is no evidence to believe that god does or doesn’t exist.
Religion was created as a coping mechanism.
We needed ways to explain why things happened in the past but with little to no scientific advancements in the past, it was hard to explain. So what people did is make their own guesses on why things happen.
You claim that God made us in his image? How can you possibly comprehend a god that would be outside of our dimension in the first place?
God could be a infinitely dimensional being. We can barley comprehend the 4th dimension much less an infinite one.
      Next, there’s evolution.
Evolution has been proven to occur and humans are no exception. We evolved just like any other creature. In fact, there’s a little less than 2% difference genetically from you and a chimp and about a 3% difference between you and a gorilla. You have about a 10% difference between you and the monkey swinging in the trees. How can you look at this undeniable DNA evidence and claim that it is false?
What about the multiple species of humans that existed? They were never spoken of in the Quran, Bible, or Torah.
The first human evolved over 2 million years ago. That human wasn’t the same species as us but one of our ancestors. If god really cared about humanity as much as it is said in the Bible, why would he wait until there was only one human species left to save them when he could’ve saved all of humanity.
In fact, god is all powerful so he should be able to just change the event all it never happened.
Again, don’t get the wrong idea, I think it would be pretty cool if a god exist but there is no evidence for me to believe so I don’t believe. That doesn’t mean I think that there is no god.
I think it’s illogical for a god to send me to hell for simply not believing. I am sure there a far worst things to worry about than someone not believing.
So what is your creations don’t believe you exist? You could just simply show yourself and be done with it if that is what you wanted .
If we look at events like the great flood, we know it never happened based on fossil and geographic evidence. There was no flood that stretched across the earth a few thousand years ago. What we did find from the evidence, is that there was a massive tsunami that hit the Middle East and parts of Northern Africa around 9,000 years ago.

I don't understand if God really exists and is as powerful as they say he is what is the purpose of our existence. Why would he allow all these people to suffer most of all people who worship him and regions with mostly atheist demography are the most prosperous ones. Have you actually looked into religion? I’m just curious, because I think most people who say “religion is a way of coping” are just writing religion off and never want to give it a try.
I also feel like perhaps you’re saying these things because of the society you’ve been conditioned to adhere to. I mean think about. Being religious, to a certain extent, is looked down upon, and those who are religious are deemed as stupid. (Most of the time that is, I know that I am generalizing but I think most of us could agree with what I just said.)
There’s so much I’d like to say to you, and I’d love to have a genuine conversation with you about this topic. But, I don’t think that will ever be possible. So I’ll put it this way:
Be open minded. There are so many things influencing what you think and how you think it’s absurd. And I’m not saying this as if it’s some “big conspiracy”. It’s how we are wired. Every since the dawn of civilization, whenever you think that is, we have been constantly bombarded with opinions and ideas and society telling us how to think. And unfortunately, Christianity once fell victim to that. Forcing people to join. (Id like to very quickly point out that THAT is NOT true Christianity, nor is it what Jesus taught.) But my over arching point here is this: seek the truth for yourself. Whether it be science, Islam, Buddhism, or hopefully Christianity, seek the truth and be open minded.
If I may suggest, look into the resurrection of Christ. Don’t just write it off as false because it’s “supernatural”. There are many logical points that, in my opinion, prove that Christ did indeed rise from the dead. And if he did, everything he said was true.

Here’s my perspective on everything. I was raised by my dad who’s a hardcore atheist, he gave me knowledge about religion and I gained more through school and social experiences, I obviously also became an atheist. But through adolescence I lost purpose in self and why everything is… well existing. So I started doing a shit ton of psychedelics, and after two years of going into this hallucinogenic realms of bliss confusion, I came to find that there is something that created everything, spirit or god I couldn’t tell you, but I found that love is my religion. I don’t practice any one religion or don’t disbelieve any either, I take it into account use what I think could be true than go on living. Experiencing life is the purpose of life. Everything else is jus distractions, road blocks, or escapes. Now days I live in the moment not worrying about materialistic things or judgment of others and not judging others and I’ve been happy ever since. I know I’m a fool that knows nothing about anything, In which I’m returned with the knowledge of everything.

Recently I watched a video on how the world was created, and I said. "You know what? It's WAY more believable that the world was created by science, and humans were created from evolution than the world being created by some big dude in the sky". That's it.
There's so many religions, Christians believe that only their religion is right. While other religions believe Christianity is wrong. Which proves that at different times in different places people said "I don't want to die and just disappear from the world forever, I want to go to a good place" and that shit turned into religion.
How come "praying" never works? How come some people are born into wealthyness and live their life full of glamour and without ever having to do anything? How come some people work hard all their life but never reach their hopes or dreams no matter how much they believe in God?
Honestly, I feel really overwhelmed. It's so difficult going from a church girl to someone who has discovered the truth. I don't want to stop celebrating Christmas. I love giving gifts and I love getting them. I like Easter. I have an entire family of Christians. I can't stop thinking about this but I've made my decision. Life is life. Your life matters the most so have a good life. And make other people's lives better. I'm gonna keep this a secret because fuck does it matter? I wanna give people gifts on Christmas. I think I will be fine. If anyone else can relate to this, we can chat in the replies :) hope the truth doesn't shock anyone else too much.

Also, he almighty put The scientific miracles that include The chemical composition of the human ( the clay ), the expansion of the universe, the knocking star, the origin of the universe, the orbits, the movements of the sun and the earth, the rotation of the earth, the stage of development of the only type of clouds that produce hail, the mountain as pegs, the vision in the deep seas, the variation of the amount of the air along the sky, the front of the head function, the chronological comparisons of developments of the fetus ( the bones, the body, the hearing, and the vision), the stage of the developments of the zygote, the only pain receptors, the factor that determines gender ( the sperm ), the secretion of the digestive fluid in the fly, the fertilizing winds, the mechanism of secretion of the milk, and the forbidden type of breeding ( between relatives ).
You have to check them to be persuaded. Also, You can study the other miracles.
But before doing anything, raise your hand asking your creator to help you, to guide your heart to the right path, to forgive you, to enter you the heaven, and to save you from the fire.
I hope you do what I asked for and accept Islam.

In my personal experience, I've noticed when I started to pursue a religion with the knowing it isn't actually what we think it to be but rather what we make it to be, I grew in every aspect. Saying, that once I realized that the, for example, bible isn't black and white. Same being with a God. It simply seemed there to be a correspondence needed, (understanding) for a really effective grasp on something (Jesus Christ in this case) in order for it to work personally and consistantly. It's giving up the idea that you know it to be true or false, rather I saw right there I don't know anything but what I think. I've been told straight fairy tales of incidents proving the existence of Christ but the one telling it, you could tell they really experienced it. So with that idea of not knowing and the memory of the possible existence of Christ, it connected. Everything I've ever experienced, heard, saw, smelt, felt and thought to have know all pointed in one direction. Perhaps it really was just a placebo, a really magically placebo. He resides in a place of a bow, what science calls placebo and what I call BOWing in place. I feel everyone has a source and they all should find it, but whatever that be is a personal story.

We live in a BIBLICAL world, in where BAAL is worshipped and praised to this day and CHRIST is rejected by many.
GOD give us different languages, just to stop us from finishing the building of the tower of BABEL.
If the tower of BABEL was never build, the language of man would have stayed the same. /whatever was the language in which mankind speak in those days).
GOD give us languages of different kind, not religions. Man made up religions. Religions are our own fantasies and imaginations.
Therefore, souls, lets seek CHRIST, not religions.
No verse given in bible, which calls us to become “religious”.
Bible has verses which say: REPENT AND BORN AGAIN!

That is, if our thoughts and actions are decent ones, the chances are higher that our current world will be more heavenly. Similarly, if our thoughts and actions are indecent ones, then our world will be more hellish. In other words, heaven and hell are here now, and we have a certain amount of control over which one we go to in this current life. This is similar to concepts in Buddhism.

It's obvious money is what's holding is back. (Athiets' God in their religion) . The more you have, the more your worth. Regardless whether earned from hard work or criminal acts. Man was built with senses that don't deal with the physical like sight or touch. No person can find Raping a child logically good, and majority (hopefully) agree with that. "Belief systems flourishing because they facilitate the interest of the creatures involved" is a sneaky way to say it that sounds good, but is equally true when it's in the interest of the creature to follow the belief system so that it is not killed as a heretic or apostate (a way religions have flourished is through killing, indoctrination, and coercion). This is a hindrance upon the creature imposed by the belief system - not a benefit - despite it being beneficial to follow (same as it can be "beneficial" for your well being to obey a terrorist, but we wouldn't describe the terrorist as "beneficial").
Weinstein is playing it very fast and loose with the word "true" as "an enhancement of one's fitness". Pick a different word. Truth isn't necessarily what's good for you. This is a moralistic fallacy.
It's also a basic justification for religion using evolutionary utilitarianism. The irony of using social Darwinism to justify religion! Eugenics would have the same result Weinstein espouses here: a belief system that would have an evolutionary benefit for its believers. The spread of beliefs are not genetic, however, and often accomplished with coercion and violence. In fact, acting out some of these beliefs is what CAUSES scarcity and conflict in the first place. What is so great about quantity of life if there's no quality of life?

I've been trying to explain this on another thread, and I just can't believe how hard it is for some to accept something so simple and self-evident.

      @hcheyne 6 ปีที่แล้ว +45

Bad argument. Behaviour produced due to evolutionary 'Fitness' is behaviour that is beneficial to a group, not specific to individuals in the group or external groups. If you are being oppressed within an otherwise flourishing group, the group is still fit. Also why assume he is talking about morally right? He appears to be using the word true in the context of being evolutionary useful, that is, in the socially selective environment you are in. In that context he is correct (right if you will).
If religion has allowed cohesion within a group, which has resulted in the group flourishing, then your individual contribution to evolutionary success (having healthy children, that reach adulthood) is often improved by adhering to the status quo. Your or my moral outrage, suffering, or oppression at this, is kind of irrelevant. My grandfather who is gay, has over 40 descendants because of this paradigm.

Personally, I feel it drives me insane to think that there is absolutely no reason for us being here; that nothing that we do or not do mean anything in the end. That nothing that we experience, or learn, even matters as we will all eventually be forgotten. That when all life ends on Earth, anything humanity accomplished (music, art, literature, science, philosophy etc.) will just vanish.
And worst of all: it seems like torture to be given such a beautiful planet-evolve such complex emotions-only to not have nearly enough time to experience all of what it has to offer. It’s depressing to think about this, but until there is solid proof of at least an afterlife, we all have to consider this cold, hard truth. The best we can do is live our life to the best of our ability, with no regrets. But then again, no one is guaranteed a normal human lifespan. So there’s that 😑

@@dvilleclik religion need not be questioned. If the parting of the sea was recorded at a precise time the tide came in and the Jews were able to escape from the Egyptian before the tide came back, that would still be considered miraculous because of timing of the place and events surrounding it. The Jews were corraled into a particular time and place which they could not get out of any other way, they were also known slaves of Egypt and knew little to nothing of tidal systems. Yet they escaped from the Egyptians anyways via a route that no one EXCEPT some sort of seafaring people would know about. Is that not spectacular? Yes we know how the miracle occurred, but the jews didn't and yet it still worked for them. Does fact that it is a natural event somehow make it less believable? Doesn't that just reinforce the idea that it actually happened and is not made up like other religions?
I think I may have missed something here. The God of the Bible is presented in the Book to be the creator of the entire universe. All it's natural laws and material things are part of his own making. Like a good painter who knows his own painting or a good programmer and designer who knows his own game. God does not have to make an actual miracle that defies his own laws to help his people. The whole world is his own creation. It is not unnatural for a Creator to use natural laws to achieve his own ends. If anything, it demonstrates his knowledge and control of natural events. And even more, it demonstrates that a Creator of the natural universe knows his own laws and operates within them, even if his people does not understand them. Do you think the Jews cared about tides or not, anyways? They weren't seafaring folk.
Sodom and Gomorrah got fried by a meteorite. It didn't have to be a cloud where some deity was mystically settled inside that just started raining fire and brimstone. Besides, we can't measure that fire-brimstone-cloud, and I'm of the opinion that God provides signs and wonders that can be seen for the education of his people, not to their detriment. Like how Babylon was permanently diversified because of the language barriers.
Just because a book explains what happened given what the authors knew doesn't mean it was literally true, but it doesn't mean it is demonstrably false if a natural means can be ascribed to it as well.
We can certainly question religion, but we don't need to question everything in terms of whether or not it is supernatural or merely natural. If anything, the fact that historic events that are recorded and then analyzed thousands of years later in demonstrable ways neither affirms nor denies a contradiction of religion. It proves that the events definitely occurred though and with some proof that they occurred, too. That should lend credibility to the events, not doubt that God made such events possible.

our God has put a challenge for all non-believers to make one chapter like the Quran which has 114 chapters with its perfection, arrangement, metaphysical miracles, eloquence, splendor, wise legislation, true information, true prophecy, beauty, scientific miracles, and other thousands of miracles. along with history, all the attempts have failed.

No name ... “I DON’T CARE!” Harry yelled at them, snatching up a lunascope and throwing it into the fireplace. “I’VE HAD ENOUGH, I’VE SEEN ENOUGH, I WANT OUT, I WANT IT TO END, I DON’T CARE ANYMORE!”
“You do care,” said Dumbledore. He had not flinched or made a single move to stop Harry demolishing his office. His expression was calm, almost detached. “You care so much you feel as though you will bleed to death with the pain of it.” - Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix...

To me it makes more sense to say it’s useful instead of saying metaphorical true. What he‘s essentially arguing is that religion is useful, which I agree but just because something is useful, doesn’t mean it’s true. Newtons laws were useful, but they weren’t true. We should differentiate between truth an usefulness.

"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse. For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures. Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them." Most of humanity is ungodly! So with that said their knowledge of the one and only true God is severely lacking.
    Facts:
The created (us) needed a creator (God)
Who created God? God needed no creator as He is the Creator of all things! God was, is, and will always be!
Why does man fight God, especially when there is evidence in plain sight all around us everyday?!?! It's as though the blind leading the blind, always searching for real truth and happiness and never obtaining it because they deny Gods existence, and have worldly minds!
The question still remains, why do people fight God?
Believers and the Non Believers are guilty of this. To the credit of a believer, at least he/she believes and knows what to do to obey God!
The unbeliever is lost, dead in trespasses, and bound to enter into everlasting damnation.
Some answers to why we war against/fight God is because you only want to answer to yourself (be our own god) You want to forgive yourself (do a job that's not yours to perform)
    1. You can never be your own God, nor follow any other God but the one in the Holy Bible
    2. You do not have any special powers to forgive yourself. Only through the precious blood of Jesus Christ, by asking Him for repentance, is the only way to be forgiven of your sins.
You may think you are judge, jury, and executioner of your own life, but you are not! You were bought with a price over 2,000 years ago when He your God in the flesh Jesus Christ died on behalf of all, for all time past, current, and future sins, for all who believe are forgiven if your saved.
Wow! That's love, what a gift, what a Savior! If this event never took place to satisfy God's anger for our disobedience, then we all would be hell bound! That's why Jesus was a sacrificial Lamb, to suffer the death which we all deserve for our sins, and lack of faith.
Remember all have sinned! There is not one among us who is righteous, not one!
    Only He is!!!
As for this documentary or should I call it a (falseumentary)!!!!!! This man is an agent of Satan, he is whispering lies into your ears leading you into darkness, away from the light!
What I find interesting is science, geology, archeology, etc..... all have been proven as estimates a GUESS let me say that again, a guess on all things. Even as much as these fields want to disprove God's existence or try to explain things away. ....they cannot!!!
Hop on the truth train folks!
