I was the only one without a parent on bct family day. Drill asked where they were and I said "my mom's in prison and my dad doesn't give a ****". Drill sergeant called out to the parents "Is there anyone willing to adopt private Stilwell? Anyone? This soldier needs a family!" This Christian family ran over an grabbed me and spent the whole day teaching me about Jesus. God bless them

Reminds me that my folks couldn’t make it to family day so I spent the day with my buddy and his folks. Folk where there fir graduation. Was Marines and this was around 9 years ago.

You have my respect for training recruits….you have my extra respect for dealing with the parents. That’s horrible! From the “other side”, it seems so orderly, uniform, strict, etc. I couldn’t….or wouldn’t….want to handle the “civilian” side of things.

I went to my first basic training graduation (besides my own in 00’) last year for my Daughter and this is accurate. I had a random African Family walked up on me to take pictures because I was in uniform…😂🤣🤦🏾♂️random! The Scarface character is accurate as well!😂🤣

Two of my brothers went Army. I remember at Jake's family day (I was 14 or 15) I INTERROGATED his poor drill. I was so meamerized lmao 😆 I feel bad now. I remember him finally just taking out his smokes and lighting a cigarette as I followed him around babbling off questions. Thank god the Drill's continue to tolerate all the dumb families at graduation!!!
He said 9 week training. I instantly went to check the creation date. Wait till they hear about the 14 week trainings 😭
