How to Turn a Modified Slimline Pen

- You can view more of my penturning series here: • Pen Turning . My niece called and asked me to make her a replacement pen. Her favorite color is orange so I grabbed the first orange blank I could find. Turned out to be Inlace Acrylester... I HATE Inlace Acrylester... but oh well. It gave me a few fits, but I got it done. The important thing is that this video can serve as a how to for turning your own modified slimline. And the blank material shouldn't matter. I finished it with ... well, nothing! Resins don't need a finish and I prove it in this tutorial. Enjoy. If you have questions, feel free to contact me. Thanks for watching. Please Like, Subscribe and Share.

Thank you, Sue! I'm sure she will.
nice work Billy. There is just something special about pens, don't know what it is, but even a simple one is always satisfying to make
Thank you very much, Ruben! Yes, they can be quite satisfying. But monotonous if you do them all the time. At least for me. Maybe because I've turned so many over the years.
Turned out great Billy!
Thank you, Don!
Cool looking pen Billy 🙂
Thank you, Gary!

Hey Billy, Nice pen, I'm going to try this, I've been using the center band on all my slim lines, my next one I'll try your way, thanks.
Thank you, Chuck! You just might like it.
Definitely a beautiful pen, Billy. I won't be able to see the finished one since I'm not on FB or IG.
Thank you very much, Bill! I will post pics on my YT Community page in a few days.
NICE WORK !!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you, Larry! Cheers!
Veramente molto interessante bravissimo 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Grazie!
Nice pen Billy. I hope you show us the color fill of the engraving. I engrave my own pens, but have yet to engrave a resin pen.
Thanks, Chris! I will post it on my YT Community page when I get it color filled.
Good evening Billy 😊
Hi, Liz!
Love this. Any idea what size washers you used. Thanks.
Thank you! I think one is 1/2" and the other 3/8".
Great video Billy.
I have never seen a modified Slimline done that way before.
I stopped using Polyester Resin years ago because of the bad chipping no matter how gently I turned it.
Great video my friend and one I'm keeping for when I give this a go.
Take care Billy.
Cheers, Huw
PS What were the outside diameters of the washers you used please?
PR can be tricky for sure, Huw. This was even more so... probably because of how old it was. The washers are 12 & 14 mm in diameter.
@@TheMessyStudio Thanks Billy. I tired one a while ago that was probably 4 years old. It was un-turnable.
Always cannot understand when people have a lathe and say they are wood turning when in fact they are “scraping”.😩
If you've watched many of my turning videos, you've seen me "cut". This is resin. Resin likes scrapers. Sometimes it doesn't mind the skew. Just depends on the resin.
Do you have a lathe? I'd be happy to watch some of your "turning"!
