In the days since Covid I have found that friction polish and wax finishes do not hold up to hand sanitizer. I prefer a lacquer finish which does not wipe off with alcohol hand cleaners. closed grain hardwoods only require two or three coats while open grain wood like oak may require seven or eight coats for a more permanent finish.
Great looking pen Daniel with a lot of history behind it. Great job keeping some of the paint on the body. Enjoyed this video my friend. Take care Daniel. Cheers, Huw
Since the paint was turned off I might have considered taking some of the paint from the scraps and inlaying it just to add the colour. A nice pen with a great history.
@@TournageDubois well said. I do CA glue finishes on my bowls. There is nothing like it in terms of final product looking like liquid mirror finish. I couldnt get into pen turning but I respect the snot out of it. Definitely looks great!
You hit it out of the park!
Thank you, Ken! I appreciate the feedback!
Excellent video! Super helpful and informative! The pen turned out beautiful! It all makes sense now, having a visual! 😊 Thanks D!!!!
No worries my friend! Glad if my video can help you out!

Thank you for the feedback! I have never seen any issues with my pens holding up with Brad's finishes, but I'll be on the lookout!
Really cool to get a piece of wood history. Very nice pen.
Thank you, Jean! I agree... having a piece of history is amazing!
There is a lot involved in making a pen! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, and always happy to share. Lots of care and love to make things that can last forever!
Thank you for sharing your awesome project. Everyone stay safe, warm, happy and healthy. From Henrico County Virginia
Thank you, Norm! Stay warm yourself (I was in WV for work last week with all the snow)!
Brother, such a fantastic history in that pen! Awesome work capturing that!

Great pen DD!
Thanks, Doug! I think the history of it is what makes me the happiest!
Now I find these video, after gluing my bushings to my mandrel and blanks. Would love to have some. Bye will buy some plastic my self.
Glad you enjoyed watching!
Nice, Daniel. It's great that you were able to keep some of that paint. I was afraid you were going to sand it away.
Bill
Thanks, Bill! I enjoy this technique, and glad I learned it to keep that showing!

Thanks, Ken! That's a good idea to consider going forward!
It's a good looking pen Double D! 😎
I really dig your little cups you use for pressing them together. Can you drop a link for that product?
Thanks, brother!! Here's the link!

Love it. Go Rangers!
Hahahahaha. Gotta love Baseball!
do you ever do CA glue finishes on your pens?
I do not typically. I prefer the tactile feel of the wood, which you lose with the CA finish.

@rhegafd Thanks!
