Warmed my crusty heart to see this. I love the sound of the idle. I've had 2 617's and 3 190d's. I also have a 240d motor and the 4spd manual to swap into a ranger someday. I own everything but the time to do the swap. Then make it use veggi oil. Maybe someday. Thanks for sharing.
Pretty cool conversion It amazes me how you mated an om 617 to a Toyota 4x4 5 speed…there’s no end to the possibilities But you took the best from both car makers to make an even better scout…plus you must have lightened the scales by several hundred pounds….I have two 524 td engines and one wants to hide in a samurai….you have certainly fed my conversion appetite….
OM 617.950 or 951/952. These engines run fine on vegetable oil too. Only with the original injectors this might be a problem during cold startup. If one changes the original Bosch DN0SD220 for Bosch DN0SD261/265/314 this problem will be eleminated.
Did you experience better starting and less smoke…more power? I’m checking my 524 td to see what the Germans were installing Definitely want to do a TD conversion….
4900lbs. The OM617 makes 25 more HP than the SD33. The OM also has much larger parts support network and being coupled to the Toyota 5 speed makes it a million times nicer to drive.
@@TheBinderBoneyard Awesome I just subscribe to you how does it drive down the road say 70 80 mph and is it pretty good for daily driving without beating up the engine thank you awesome work by the way
@@RTLEE1 yes. The scout has 3.54 gears and 31" tires, so it does 75 on the highway easily. Climbing long grades, it does require a down shift to 4th, but still does 65mph in 4th easily.
I wouldn't. The Mercedes car had 4 speed auto with 4th being 1 to 1 and 2.72 axle gears. You would need some sort of 6 speed auto with tall OD to handle the 4.10s
@TheBinderBoneyard I have an 89 bronco, I want to diesel and zf5 swap it, according to the math I have, I should be able to do it around 6k without selling back stuff like my original drivetrain, and the transmission from the npr donor truck
@@aydenlhoneycutt the Mercedes motor is way too small for that application. Swap in a 7.3 IDI and 5 speed from a pickup and be way ahead. You can't do this Mercedes swap for 6k.

I am building a 617 in a scout chassis with a Volvo 145 body so I'm stoked to see this build.
Just stumbled onto this, wish I could drive and see how it feels. Very interested, great to see.
Good to see Binder Boneyard posting a video! Cool project too.

Good looking swap Dan!

I subscribed to your podcast can you do a podcast on the diesel swap maybe even road trip? Keep up the good work!!!
Thank you for listening. I will!
I like it.
So many builders mention "what-not". I have looked for this and I have not found any. What is what-not?
Awesome
Great job.
How much does the scout weigh and how much better is the Mercedes-Benz engine versus the Nissan diesel engine in power and torque

Dan, what auto would you do in this same configuration? Also I have 4.10 gears in the Scout.

What rear axle ratio was in this Scout? Turns out I don’t have 4.10, I have 3.73.

Turn down the volume of background music or totally eliminate it, please. Been thinking about doing the same swap. Great job!
I'm very interested in setup for my scout. What would you charge?
Every job varies. Your best bet is to email us at thebinderboneyard@gmail.com and we can go over pricing.
Do you still have the SD33T engine from this scout?
Gone long ago
What's gear ratio of first gear of that Toyota 5speed
Your Google works as good as mine. I don't know
@@TheBinderBoneyard I say it does but I don't know what your transmission came from

Thanks mines is bolted to a Mazda 5 speed from what I found there first gears are pretty much the same so I guessing my truck is geared to high
mi pregunta alguna camioneta international salió de agencia con motor diésel o no
Would this be a good replacement for a 1975 4x4 200 with the 392?
No. Not enough power
how big of a budget was it?
About the same as doing a 2.8 Cummins conversion in the end.

Ever thought of doing the swap with a OM606 or OM617? it's a Mercedes Motor.
Thats my dream build with the om606, I'd love to do a 6l90e paired with it
i like what you did...music is abut much to try to sort through
What yr Toyota transmission and series? W or R? I’m building 63 scout 80. Already have motor, now looking for the rest.
R
What kind of fuel mileage were you getting?
High 20s
Could you please spare us the music? Trying to learn something. Thank you
You won't learn anything here.
