TH-cam sucks. This is in my feed just now after 3 months ?!?! Hi im alfons and ill will watch anything with an om617. Yeesh. That is one perfectly tuned engine. You did such amazing work.
I can't begin to stress the importance of builds like this one. It's different, and different in a sea of "same thing everyone else is doing" is remarkable in itself. "It can't be done" is only true until someone does it- and it WORKS. I like it!
Dope video bruh. I am currently looking at the OM617 for the used oil purposes. I have a ranger, they said there no way to RHD swap a ranger on a stock firewall so I DID THE SWAP JUST TO PROVE PPL WRONG. NOW IM GONNA SWAP OUT THE 4.0 FOR A OM617, JUST FOR EXTRA SALT IN THOSE "YOU CANT DO THAT PPL"
Yeah, it's not a Cummins, it doesn't have gobs and gobs of torque or anything like that. It has good enough power. It has 90's V6 power. I'd guess around 150hp tire and maybe 230 ft/lbs
JR thats more than enough in that light truck. Will do anything you need. And we all seen you do it on the cheap . Shows that you don't have to spend thousands on a fancy rig to get the job done. Elbow grease and determination is the American way. Thank you Sir.

I'd love to hear a check in on your injection pump and fueling system in general, a couple years on. Did you run a lot of high % veg fuel? 50% is a dramatic amount in my experience, and i'm eager to hear what your experience was. I find mixing diesel, old gas, veg oil, and anything else i think should work does do Alright so long as it's mostly diesel and very much less distillates compared to other additives.
Nice work! Boy i wish i could pick your brain! Currently putting a non turbo om617 in an isuzu rodeo. Bought the engine on eBay and it was Per pretty much complete, 52k miles. I didn't know what all i needed with it though so i don't have an oil cooler, shutoff solenoid, glow plug relay or any clue how everything was hooked up. First time messing with a diesel also. Got the manual trans adapted and I'm working on engine mounts now. I did fire it up and its strong. Need to convert the belt to 6 groove, can i ask how you did it? What are the pullies from? Looks like a doomsday diesel set up. My ac/alternator need to stay in stock locations or I'd use his brackets but I'm wondering if anyone has been able to find stock pullies from diff models that will bolt up.. Anyway, tight work!
I don't have an oil cooler. A glow plug solenoid can be anything, a lot of people use 7.3 Powerstroke ones. The brackets are Doomsday, the water pump pulley is Doomsday, the idler is a 6.5 Chevy diesel, the alternator is stock LS, and the power steering pump is Jeep Cherokee with a Trail Gear pulley.
@@TheDrivewayEngineer awesome, thanks for the info... how did you take care of the oil lines? I was thinking it probably didn't need an oil cooler outside of a cramped merc engine bay..
@@sirridok I just upgraded from normal braided AN lines to some hydraulic hoses from my local Parker store. Cost me about 100 bucks, but way stronger than I'll ever need.
@@TheDrivewayEngineer i mean the lines coming from the stock oil pump which i assume go to the oil cooler in the merc.. I just connected the 2 together for the time being. Wasn't sure if i could just plug tge 2 ports without starving the engine. Couldn't find anyone showing the stock setup.
@@TheDrivewayEngineer mine is non turbo and i have no clue about turbos so I'm planning to stay stock for now. Maybe down the road I'l add one. Do you happen to have a video that shows your finished setup up close inside and around the bay? Didn't see one in your videos..
What radiator you go with? Just stick Toyota? I found the 4cyl Toyota would keep up on big hill climbs and ended up with a huge champion aluminum . That has no problem keeping it cool.
@@TheDrivewayEngineer right, the fuel mileage and power is enticing if it would fit, I guess you could always try to bump up the power on the 617 or go with a tdi

I’m thinking about getting a Jeep with on617. Enough torque? Sounds good with turbo ? I’m worried about the cooling/overheating. Should I be concerned about that?

Your rpms are a little higher than the 3.4 at 60 not much and your getting 10+ mpg better and it whistles when you want it too I’d say it’s a win

Sounds great running at its happy rpm and I never saw the point of being able to drive illegal highway speeds anyway.

With your experience with the 617 what do you think a 606 would be like in this gen toyota would it be worth the hassle?
There's no way you're getting a 606 in one, it literally won't fit the space between the firewall and grille.
