This, the G30th and the RG are three different kits for people who want different things really. The G30th was designed to replicate the 1/1 scale Gundam statue, which is basically an enormous version of the MG RX-78-2 Ver Ka, with additional detail to make it look more realistic due to its size. The RG uses more or less the same concept, with the intent of showing the Gundam as "what if it was actually a real piece of hardware", sort of a hybrid between an MG and the G30th with even more detail. The Revive kit on the other hand doesn't strive for a "realistic" look - it's going for the ultimate anime feel, with the same plain looks as the robot in animation, and with a range of motion that everyone used to assume *had* to involve copious amounts of "anime magic". From the look of things - and I have to admit, I don't have either of the three kits - it does an excellent job, as it's the first HG that can actually pull off an anime-accurate "Final shot" pose.

We've been growing up, spend a lot of money on cameras, hi-fi, watches, expensive cars, they are fun but this one is pure fun... This kit is so mature and they understand what we think, what we like. The designer may probably be one of us.

very good review man, I am liking the new proportions and articulation and at a cheap price, you cant beat it for quick little nice looking build, I was going to get the old one for a sd, with some modified hg parts, but might have to just get 2 of these, I like it
Got this the other day as my 1st gunpla and can say it's great! Though the eyes are odd how it comes with the clear yellow and a foil behind it just to be covered by the sticker so I left mine off and reckon it catches the light much better though not colour accurate. Already have my Zaku II Char HGUC coming so I think I might have been bitten by the bug 🤣. Great video and the uncut footage of the posing part which I don't see often.
I've never got/built a gunpla model kit before, (I have built a SD ex-standard Gundam though) so would you reccomend this to a beginner? I have heard that the building process is quite simple compared to others, what do you think?
i have the same feel like you have. Before I got the kit, I was thinking using it as my damage experiment as it's so cheap, however after I got the kit, finishing building it, I found myself so loving this kit every time I play it or even just holding in my hands.

I bought this a while ago at Barnes and Noble. I am the biggest fan of the RX-78 but once I saw the price tag I ended up caving in. The kit comes together really easily almost like a SD. However I ended up loving the kit if not just for the fun factor. I currently have in striking pose with its beam saber. It is such a fun kit. I wholeheartedly recommend this especially for beginners.
I wanna give this thing a cake-ish color shceme with some glitter in the paint, make the accessories dessert-themed, and label it as Aila's new Gunpla. I'll call it the Sweet Gundam
Between this one and the G30th I would go for both. I think the only one I would be iffy on is the RG cause of the breaks I kept hearing about. The G30th and Revive are pretty fun builds. I have built the original HGUC one too. But....... I like those two waaaaayyy more then it. The revive Freedom is a nice build, it is a little back heavy. But I had an easier time getting it to stand on the ground then the RG Freedom. No wings touching the desk. The Wings weren't hugging the body either. Now only if the Revive Mark II came out a bit sooner. I am looking forward to that one too. Need muh Mark II kick, lol. I hope they decide to give the Zeta a revision. They have plenty of kits now to extract ideas from. A Gyan would be also cool, but I am not sure if it is being hinted at already though on the revive line flyer that came with the model.

You can easily fix cracks with tamiya cement. I think you can find tutorials on youtube on how to use tamiya paint. But make sure you still have your HG's runners.
Agreed, sorry for necroing but I actually got this from my fiance recently and I'm liking the idea of this more than the rg I have that's just become a battle damage tester.
I bought this kit a couple weeks ago, and I think it looks great. But! The sheild, the and the left shoulder are really loose, even with adding super glue to it. I'm guessing I got a bad molding for mines? I'm new to gunpla, so I heard supposedly some kits maybe loose out of the box?
I never really understood the obsession with ab crunch until this kit. Sure, it seemed like it could help, but a slight shoulder shift didn't seem like that much of a deal. But... this makes me believe that most gunpla need both ab crunch AND a back 3 mm peg hole. When you get a stand that is easy to adjust (figma, action base 2, even those cheap crappy 10 pack ones), you can move the lower half of the body by a HUGE amount. Ab crunch only FEELS real when you don't have a stand that is hip mounted.
Just got this one...halfway through putting it together. Grabbed it because it was extremely discounted and hadn't built this specific version of it... Currently, I feel like I enjoyed the Entry Grade one more, might swap the hands between them though if they work and the same with a lot of the weapons since I have the Full Weapons version... Still, it's great for $5.99...especially at this point in time.
are the backpacks compatible between the g30th and revive? backpack on the revive is just lack luster. I think the lack of detail and price, will make this basis for many customs. I'm glad I bought a couple of them, they hold poses better than the original MG gundam.
hey Jobby if you know a lot about gundams than I have a question for you, I have these 2 really small gundam toys, there chili sizes, they are 11cm, they have a action feature one is you pull a switch on the head and the shoulders and mask pop and open up, but the second one is black and I think it either had a scythe or axe, it swings it's torso, it is from Bandai, 2003
Great review on this gunpla and keep up the great work! Just wondering, I'm building my mg heavyarms and I plan to weather it with the Tamiya weathering sets. I've noticed that it includes dry transfer decals and I was wondering whether I should put them before or after weathering or if I should just put them on, gloss cote then weather?
That's up to you~ as there are many different ways to do it. If you want the weathering (dirt) to be on top of the decal, then yeah decal first then weathering on top. If you want to spray some topcoat between them you can do that. But sometimes it's more realistic if the decal is a little damaged, scratched like its weathered, too
After my disappointment with the HG G30th, this kit totally blew me away. As far as I'm concerned, THIS is the definitive HG of the RX-78-2. For the price, there's no excuse not to get it unless you really don't like the design. Better yet, with a little bit of adjustment, it can actually equip the HG Forever Gundam's armor! I want to try using the FA Thunderbolt equipment on him...if they fit, I'll have excuses to buy more!
I noticed that the V-fin doesn't have that "safety" anymore. You know, how Bandai add that little extra plastic on the tip of V-fins in HG kits? Did you cut them off or it came like that?
I know its too much to hope for, but if we DO get a "Revive" GM, it opens the possibilities for several GM MSV, like the GM Cannon and GM Sniper Custom. I think the reason they haven't been made yet is because the old HGUC GM kit is well... OLD.
Satoshi Katsumoto You could simply put some tape on the ball joint itself. If you're talking about the hinge, then take the hinge out and topcoat it with some kind of acryllic paint. Hope that helps you.

This is a stupid question, but are you able to attach the Beam Effect parts onto the tip of the Beam Rifle barrel to look like it's firing?

Absolutely! I prefer the Revive between the two. But it’s pretty amazing that they were able to make the EG just as good if not better in some ways
