The hg was designed specifically for articulation, but the making of book it comes with shows just how unique and realistic it could be if they sacrificed some of that articulation in a real or master grade
I don't know about that, I can imagine what it would look like if it were made as MG, but the overall design still looks toyish to me. Compared to the more recent attempt of grand dad in the same grade, the beyond global version looks better and realistic while keeping the same awesome articulations found in g40, at least from what I can see. To each their own I guess.
A lot of that is the color choice. The lack of a dark colored inner frame and color separation make it feel like an action figure, And the bright candy red and aqua don't help. I have seen repaints of the G40 that really sell the design better. I don't think it's so much that the G40 is realistic as much as grounded in modern design. Okuyama tried to de-retro the design, but the retro colors get in the way. I am working on a version of the G40 now with a lot of chrome trim accents and a sports car paint job, and it really brings out those vehicular design cues. Almost looks like a transformer.
Well the designer of the G40 is a super car designer and super cars are designed to look like rediculous matchbox cars. They literally look like toys on purpose. I want to see an actual military designer take a crack at it.
I prefer origin over the revive just abit. I like the more modern interpretation of the classic RX 78-2 gundam and I like the extra stuff you get with the kit to make the pretty obscure mid type and the more "famous" early type.
I think the early-type is the obscure one with the shoulder cannon and prototype rifle, the mid-type is the classic Gundam with 2 sabers and the classic beam rifle
The conclusion is funny but true. The Origin kit feels more like a conventional HG, just with a higher part count and more surface detail, where the G40 and BG seem really fresh and modern, but the Origin is still the best kit. It looks the best and still poses like a champ. The G40 is the weirdest of them. I think the white joints/frame make it look more like an action figure than the sculpt itself.
I have the RG and its a POS. As Mecha says, it suffers from "Early real grade syndrome". IE the second you touch it to pose, all the pieces start popping off and it gets all floppy. The RG is getting boxed when I get the Origin.
I got the Entry a few months after the HG and a few other HG kits in between and honestly just for fun of building I liked it much more (just compared to the revive).
i”d choose the origins one because it have great details and if you pose it with another gunpla (ex. char’s zaku) it will more suitable...except if bandai would release char’s zaku ver of beyond global or g40
they haven't released the revive version? i only know the origins version and the rg version....i really want rx 78 origin and char zaku origin, they will looked good together

The color separation really looks pleasing to the eyes + how it looks perfect. Was going for the global, but the accessories that the Origin has, is really a steal + Poses better with all of those accessories,
I already made my choice long ago when the origin and the beyond global were announced and I chose the origin because I love the origin line and have been wanting a grandaddy from the origin line. I already have the revive, and it was actually my first model kit. That I built.
That's cool! The only grand dad I have is the 3.0, which looks pretty cool. Been interested in origin with its more industrial look,and the HG looks pretty nice! Might grab it when I've got some disposable income.
If you need a video idea for your backlog: Origin vs Real Grade. Since both kits go for the "same asthetic", it would make a good comparison between modern HG and early RG. Can the old RG still compete, or has it already been eclipsed by the High Grade in 2020?
If I would only have one? I'd go for the Revive. Cheap, good articulation, looks good, and super easy to build. Ease your Gunpla burn out building this amazing kit.
I kinda prefer the Gundam Universe sculpt. It has a great mix of a classic look with some new angles to break things up and give a modern vibe. Too bad the articulation is kinda worse than a lot of MSIA figures.
it has certain design similarities to the yokohama gundam, the GUNDAM from age (original one with that sword on the back) and the 0 gundam. its quite chest heavy like the gundam ground type

I just got finished building my RX-78 Revive. I was very surprised on how amazing these new models are. I haven't built a Gunpla almost 14 years. For the price I was amazed at the coloring, the built quality and flexibility of the model. I'm excited to start building again and seeing all the improvement Bandia has made.
The Origin's my favorite. I have mine set up in a way that's more like the classic RX-78 by combining both early and mid-type parts. I'd also like to get a Beyond Global at some point.
So glad you made this! Been considering a HG RX-78-2 and a matching Char’s Zaku II, so I want them to be from the same series, such as the origin, beyond global, etc. I do have an RG RX-78-2, but it’s skirt’s so finickey that it seems nigh impossible to pose comfortably, so an HG makes sense
I really loved the MG OYW version's "pastel" color scheme and seeing that Beyond Global is similar to that made me consider picking it up once I get through my current backlog wahahahaha

The warrior and the looker: origin I mean the beyond global has a decent look, but if you want a granddaddy the origin is just *italian hands* Like the beyond global has its merits, but they feel like smaller merits than the origin overall.
I haven't built Gunpla in over 15 years and have been wanting to jump back into the hobby. I heard about the Beyond Global coming out and decided to pull the trigger on it. Should be a fun lockdown project. It's incredible to see how even the most basic kits have evolved while I've been away.
If you asked me about the ratings, I would say it depends on what you're looking for. If you want something that looks cool and original go for Revive. If you want something futuristic and modern but follows originality, go for beyond global. If its mobility you're after, then pick up G40. If you want something that is original, cool, militaristic, and futuristic get the Origin. After all the ratings for the same kit doesn't matter if it doesn't have the trait you want in the kit.
Even though I love the origin kit bcuz of the accessories, I am definitely happy with the Revive kit that I have, it's affordable and simple yet striking to look at.
I prefer the simple anime look, so my heart will always be with the Revive as my default 1/144 RX-78. However, I adore the colors of the Beyond Global (very MG ver OYW, I dig it), and I have always like the Origin version as well. If they had included Late type parts as well I would have painted it into a G3.
Great video! I did want to make one minor correction though. Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin was a manga for a decade and a half before the designs were reused for the CGI movies.
We need a full comparison between all of the 1/144 RX-78-2 Gundams ever. At least: The old HG, Ver. G30th, RG, Revive, Origin, G40, Beyond Global, and the new Entry Grade. Bonus points for: 1980 vintage Gunpla, the 1990 original HG, the First Grade and the old Entry Grade.
I'm not sure about the others, but HG Beyond can actually reach up and put his hand around the saber hilt without it falling off or having issues with the arm. It makes him look like he's about to draw it and slash some poor Zaku to bits. Looks great.
I'm definitely getting the Beyond Global. I love the color on it and the design doesn't drift too much from the original concept, unlike the Origin and G40. Also, I hate stickers, and BG only has few of them. After finishing the BG, I might get the Revive or the EG Full Weapon Set to have a more original variant of the Gundam
How did you modify the front skirt piece on the RX-78 Revive to move separately? Did you just split the middle, or did you do something else to them? I'm looking at mine wondering whether or not they will hold in place if I just split them, so I figured I'd ask you first since you've found a way to make it work before I did anything to mine.

It was released as an accessory with a Gunpla magazine, together with the Javelin, the Super Napalm rifle attachment and some cannons that you can mount in various ways (over the shoulders, as the FA's shield-cannon hybrid etc). Really cool bonus! Edit: I was forgetting the 30th anniversary version! It had the Hammer too.

I know that they just wanted to retcon out the Gundam Hammer because it really doesn't fit the Real Robot thing, but I still think it's cool. XD
I just bought and built the Beyond Global (was my favorite from this video), and not sure if its possible with the other versions, but the Beyond Global beam rifle can hold the beam effect on the tip for the perfect Final Shot pose.

Hmm, the rankings are a bit intriguing. I personally (and honestly) like the origin. Great details, and it's really a poser to me compared to the beyond global. Although the tech of BG is better compared to the origin, i felt that it was a bit deservice not giving origin a gundarium tier. I really want to have the best technology added to a gunpla, but it should be balanced out by aestethics, details, and design which I felt origin has nailed it. I hope I can get that origin daddy soon.
Platinum vs Gundarium doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with quality. Platinum is something that is really really good, but still feels like the grade it’s a part of. Gundarium kits do not feel like the grade they are. The latter can be said of the G40 and Revive Global, since they are using the latest technology to push something new. The Origin has polycaps and other standard tech you’d expect in a High Grade, but it just uses that tech to make a really good model.
@@Brawler_1337 I think that was the apt distinction mechagaikotsu gave when he did the rg force impulse review. And I will agree that gundarium tier is more on how the tech transcends a gunpla from its grade like the RG Nu and Sazabi. But in this review, I could see that even if the BG has some new tech compared to some ball joints the origin has, the origin did have some better articulation compared to the newer tech BG. For me, the origin. is the all-rounder compared to the rest. even if it has some traditional joints that can still classify it as a high grade, it is better in other aspects.
I kinda think he needs to revise the system and maybe make the Gundarium a special seal. Because to me the G40 as a kit is gold or silver with ok looks and almost no accessories but gundarium mechanics.

But for me the G40 maybe a great poser with advancements in its joints, but ir failed in the design since it was a departure of real rx-78. I was even thinking that since it was designed by a renowned designer, he will be true to the original design and only improve its internal mechanism, adding as well newer details.
I’m in the middle of painting my beyond global and taking it apart was a nightmare. I ended up cutting some of the locking pegs at an angle to make disassembling easier. Still super solid!
Bought the Beyond Global cuz I love the colors and engineering of the kit but I will definitely get the Origin as well someday for that chunky real robot look
The Beam Rifle of the Beyond Global one allows painters who like test fitting to pop out the sight really easily. First time they've designed it like that. Huge plus for painters. Unless you don't test fit (like me)
Working on the beyond global, and since it looks so nice I decided to put my 40k model painting skills to the test and did all the yellow in retributor gold.
I did the HG Gundam The Origin one last year, it’s one of the best Gundams I’ve put together until this year when I bought the Gundam The Origin 1/100 scale model, it’s really cool looking.

I love the way how bandai gave the RX-78-2 good treatment. It even has an Entry grade now that pars up with the HG Revive.

As someone who has the RG 78-2 abd Zaku II the RG still outshines the rest easyally. But they are a lot more fragile in return.

I mean the beyond global has a decent look, but if you want a granddaddy the origin is just *italian hands*
Like the beyond global has its merits, but they feel like smaller merits than the origin overall.
I haven't built Gunpla in over 15 years and have been wanting to jump back into the hobby. I heard about the Beyond Global coming out and decided to pull the trigger on it. Should be a fun lockdown project. It's incredible to see how even the most basic kits have evolved while I've been away.
I'm gonna have to go with the Origin Version. Looks the best to me.

If you asked me about the ratings, I would say it depends on what you're looking for. If you want something that looks cool and original go for Revive. If you want something futuristic and modern but follows originality, go for beyond global. If its mobility you're after, then pick up G40. If you want something that is original, cool, militaristic, and futuristic get the Origin. After all the ratings for the same kit doesn't matter if it doesn't have the trait you want in the kit.
I'll have to pick each one up from myself, made the mistake of starting with the Penelope but I want to see how these feel putting together
Even though I love the origin kit bcuz of the accessories, I am definitely happy with the Revive kit that I have, it's affordable and simple yet striking to look at.
G40 almost falling at 30:20 had me laughing too hard for no reason 😂
I prefer the simple anime look, so my heart will always be with the Revive as my default 1/144 RX-78. However, I adore the colors of the Beyond Global (very MG ver OYW, I dig it), and I have always like the Origin version as well. If they had included Late type parts as well I would have painted it into a G3.
The new Entry Grade is cheap as hell, very anime accurate and with better articulation than even the old HG!
Great video! I did want to make one minor correction though. Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin was a manga for a decade and a half before the designs were reused for the CGI movies.
Heck, this doesn’t even include the ANIME Robot Damashii and the famous SCM EX figure.
It’s so hard to stick with one Grandpa RX nowadays.

I'm not sure about the others, but HG Beyond can actually reach up and put his hand around the saber hilt without it falling off or having issues with the arm. It makes him look like he's about to draw it and slash some poor Zaku to bits. Looks great.
I'm definitely getting the Beyond Global. I love the color on it and the design doesn't drift too much from the original concept, unlike the Origin and G40. Also, I hate stickers, and BG only has few of them. After finishing the BG, I might get the Revive or the EG Full Weapon Set to have a more original variant of the Gundam

How did you modify the front skirt piece on the RX-78 Revive to move separately? Did you just split the middle, or did you do something else to them? I'm looking at mine wondering whether or not they will hold in place if I just split them, so I figured I'd ask you first since you've found a way to make it work before I did anything to mine.

@@redactedz6146 I believe it was cut out of the modern "condensed" dvd recut. And deffinately not part of the Origin repubs of the manga.
It was released as an accessory with a Gunpla magazine, together with the Javelin, the Super Napalm rifle attachment and some cannons that you can mount in various ways (over the shoulders, as the FA's shield-cannon hybrid etc). Really cool bonus!
Edit: I was forgetting the 30th anniversary version! It had the Hammer too.
@@vincenzo1791 yeah but I'm not really sure if that Gundam Hammer attachment included in that magazine would also fit the Origins ver., Beyond Global, and the G40. AFAIK, it's for the Revive ver.
I know that they just wanted to retcon out the Gundam Hammer because it really doesn't fit the Real Robot thing, but I still think it's cool. XD
I just bought and built the Beyond Global (was my favorite from this video), and not sure if its possible with the other versions, but the Beyond Global beam rifle can hold the beam effect on the tip for the perfect Final Shot pose.
This is a long time coming! Too bad my love for Grandaddy just makes me buy every HG regardless lmao

Hmm, the rankings are a bit intriguing. I personally (and honestly) like the origin. Great details, and it's really a poser to me compared to the beyond global. Although the tech of BG is better compared to the origin, i felt that it was a bit deservice not giving origin a gundarium tier. I really want to have the best technology added to a gunpla, but it should be balanced out by aestethics, details, and design which I felt origin has nailed it. I hope I can get that origin daddy soon.
Platinum vs Gundarium doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with quality. Platinum is something that is really really good, but still feels like the grade it’s a part of. Gundarium kits do not feel like the grade they are. The latter can be said of the G40 and Revive Global, since they are using the latest technology to push something new. The Origin has polycaps and other standard tech you’d expect in a High Grade, but it just uses that tech to make a really good model.
@@Brawler_1337 I think that was the apt distinction mechagaikotsu gave when he did the rg force impulse review. And I will agree that gundarium tier is more on how the tech transcends a gunpla from its grade like the RG Nu and Sazabi. But in this review, I could see that even if the BG has some new tech compared to some ball joints the origin has, the origin did have some better articulation compared to the newer tech BG. For me, the origin. is the all-rounder compared to the rest. even if it has some traditional joints that can still classify it as a high grade, it is better in other aspects.

I kinda think he needs to revise the system and maybe make the Gundarium a special seal. Because to me the G40 as a kit is gold or silver with ok looks and almost no accessories but gundarium mechanics.
@@HeadCannonPrime I highly agree, maybe there should be a specific criteria or I dont' know. But for me the G40 maybe a great poser with advancements in its joints, but ir failed in the design since it was a departure of real rx-78. I was even thinking that since it was designed by a renowned designer, he will be true to the original design and only improve its internal mechanism, adding as well newer details.

I’m in the middle of painting my beyond global and taking it apart was a nightmare. I ended up cutting some of the locking pegs at an angle to make disassembling easier. Still super solid!
Bought the Beyond Global cuz I love the colors and engineering of the kit but I will definitely get the Origin as well someday for that chunky real robot look
The Beam Rifle of the Beyond Global one allows painters who like test fitting to pop out the sight really easily. First time they've designed it like that. Huge plus for painters. Unless you don't test fit (like me)

Working on the beyond global, and since it looks so nice I decided to put my 40k model painting skills to the test and did all the yellow in retributor gold.

I did the HG Gundam The Origin one last year, it’s one of the best Gundams I’ve put together until this year when I bought the Gundam The Origin 1/100 scale model, it’s really cool looking.
