The Porsche Cayman 718 GT4 BLEW MY MIND 🤯 - Time to replace the BMW M2 Competition??? 5k 2022

    Pinch yourself moment coming up…
    Welcome back to CMD and the PORSCHE 718 CAYMAN GT4!!!
    This car has been leant to me (that’s right leant to me) by the all round legend Paul Stevens. If you think you’ve heard that name before - you would be correct as more recently I’ve borrowed and filmed his very special GR Yaris AND his highly collectible BMW 1M
    When you hear a company like Porsche is making a loss on a certain car - which is filled with components from “superior models” including big naturally aspirated engines ANYONE would start to pay attention wouldn’t they.
    A natural transition for me having owned my BMW M2 Competition for fast approaching 3 years now.
    I’ve known people jump into them to never leave the brand - I’ve known others to jump straight back to an M Car after finding it wasn’t for them.
    So evidence would dictate this is all about preference… and potentially wallet size!
    So briefly let’s talk spec on this particular model because true to form - Paul has gone all out here to make this very special car - that little bit more desirable!
    Loaded from factory
    Carbon bucket seats
    Carbon ceramic brakes
    Extended race tech interior (Alcantara and carbon)
    BOSE
    Manual (obviously PDK is available too)
    AFTERMARKET
    JCR titanium exhaust - wait until you hear it!!!
    PPF - if I owned one… that would be a must!
    Now I don’t know if this comes across on camera - but this thing in the flesh looks very VERY SPECIAL
    I KNOW LOOKS ARE SUBJECTIVE BUT I DEFY ANYONE TO NOT LIKE THE STANCE AND PRESENCE OF THESE
    4.0 litre naturally aspirated engine
    Punches out 420BHP
    REACHES 189mph
    and unlike most cars - the faster you drive it the more capable it becomes thanks to some very trick aero.
    AND ON THAT NOTE - let’s discuss the drive…
    A mid engined, naturally aspirated RWD car with perfect weight distribution, a manual box and clever aero…
    You’d imagine it’s all good
    And in the most you would be correct
    The displacement is large for a car of this size and the power delivery is linear.
    THE MANUAL BOX IS SUPERB - a short throw placed right where you want in - you can see why people love them.
    You can short shift - the car will dordle but as you would expect - when your pushing on - you need to work the engine beyond 5000 RPM to really extract maximum UMPH
    And it will Rev out past 8 k

    That's the dream car right there! I got a taste of one when I was offered the driving seat of a 981 spyder in Scotland and it's exactly as you've described, just special.
    If I had the means, this would be right at the top of the shopping list.

    I really enjoyed checking out your content.

    I was going to say drive a 981 GT4 as the noise is next level but I might’ve guessed Paul has already covered that base with the sports exhaust. I test drove a 981 GT4 with bucket seats and it was simply sublime as a vehicle to make the soul happy. I’d say below 4krpm the M2C is punchier but that kick at 6krpm was special. Everything from opening the door, getting into the buckets, gripping the alcantara steering wheel, and stirring the very short throw gearstick to hear the noise at high revs whilst revelling in the handling,…. - it’s special. Ah well one can dream. All the best, Kevin.

      @@CarMadDad I definitely did! And he let me drive it, I can’t believe how this car slides without any rocking of the car itself! He did some pretty tight turns going over 50 mph and you couldn’t break it loose, it wanted more power! I’m coming from a 19 Si so there’s no way I got it passed 4,000 rpm for longer than a few seconds just me being cautious. Absolutely insane, a car moving that fast should not be doing the moves it does, but it does… perfectly in balance

    I like the long gearing as well, especially on the track. I use 3 through 5 on the track. I have no problem keeping it in the high torque range anywhere on the track. I think those complaining about the gearing are going too slow on public roads to take advantage of it. Porsche did it right.

    You’ve done a great job on that video. As I’ve seen this very special car has the extended leather das and extended leather door option picked you haven’t made some pictures that you could share? With these Option the clock from the chrono pack should be covered in leather too. I’d be interested in how the finish is as I am thinking of clicking theses options too but I have seen some rather bad finishes… maybe you can help…

    I am going from a m2 to a 718 gt4. Been loving your videos over the years. Do you know if the exhaust is just the backbox or the full system?

    You think the 718 GT4 is good??? Check out the RS version with reviews out a few weeks ago. But there's more, the GT4 e-Performance (switchable 600-900+ HP) was just revealed and test driven by Chris Harris - A must watch for sure!!!
    Porsche > BMW

      @@CarMadDad Sorry - I just watched the full vid - I had not when I left the original comment - I agree with everything you said here. Great vid. I just picked up a 23' Spyder and I'd say that's even more special than the GT4. With the top down there's no description that can do the experience justice.
