    Absolutely agree with trying different cars, variety is the spice of life! I've had everything from Elise, 4C, to Panamera GTS and Jaguar XKR-S and a lot more in between. Would love to see your thoughts on the 987.2 Cayman S. Since you've had an Elise and a GT4, this car should slot right between the two in terms of rawness and overall feel. The Gen 2 Caymans are special, especially the "R" but prices on those cars have really taken off. The "S" can still be had in the mid-40's in great shape. Take a look!

  • @gridkrazy
    @gridkrazy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Good video. I had a 2018 Cayman GTS - fantastic car, just as you say. My issues with it were: expensive maintenance, low practicality, and there were places in town I wouldn't park it. So I replaced it with a Golf R, which solves all three of those problems, and is plenty fast enough. Sure the Golf R doesn't shift like a PDK, nor does it handle like the Cayman, but is so terrific otherwise I don't miss those things.

    Kurt, keep producing video. Don't quit! Hey look I owned a 944 - bought it second hand though but was still in good condition - and no part, yes no part, at that time, cost less than 3 digits! What a rip off. I sold it and bought a second hand Trans Am. Sure it was less finesse but parts were much cheaper. Suggestion: think about road testing cars like mustang, RAM 1500 etc and ou will have many more watching your video.

    Man, it's gotta be tricky trying to find something of the same caliber or greater than the GT4 for $60k. Especially in this market. Seeing something a little older may be a good option until the market settles down and you want for the next real-deal sports car. I was also thinking about that GT350 you owned... paying $42k for a GT350 is unheard of now! $50k+ for even high mileage examples!

    $2,200 seems a bit too high. I just did mine for $1,200 w/o oil change. I bought a scan tool, so the oil change costs me around $90 and GT4 oil change is way easier than my SUV. I am waiting for GT4RS now. Porsche will announce in November however, I will keep my GT4 as long as the car stops moving.

    Reset computer is $175 on sale from SunCoast. Got the correct spark plugs for $60. Put permanent filters in for $170. Cabin filter is cleanable a few times. 981’s are not that bad if you do as much as you can yourself and use an Indy mechanic. I replace the differential fluid every other year for $40. Replace half the PDK fluid every year for $40. The spark plugs are a pain to replace on the front two cylinders. No way I’m going to a stealership though.

    The trouble with the GT4 is it looks like it's moulded out of one sheet of plastic like a toy. I say this after doing a track day alongside a GT4. I was in my Cayman S. Most of the cars were Lotuses: Exiges and Elises. The GT4 guy said himself (we were both ex-Lotus owners) that the Lotuses on track looked purposeful and rippling with speed and performance. I felt about my own Cayman that, in comparison with the Lotuses, the car was more about elegance than gritty track day performance. True, the engine was superb.
    Yes of course Porsche's are built for the track - but at the same time they are big fat buses in comparison to out and out track cars.

      @@EatSleepDrive If you must do that, then drive it like a nun in the slow lane and look out for everything, or better yet just have it picked up at your house. I've sent two cars to new owners on transports, and both were from my house. I know of two people in the last 10 years that took their baby out for "one last ride" where the car got crashed on one and hit by another car on the other, so I'm a little gun shy

    So basically, you bought a broken car at a really decent price, can't afford the upkeep, and had an opportunity to sell it at a great price? I would do the same. I wouldn't buy a salvage car, especially not a car that is German and usually meant to be kept as a collectors car with very low depreciation. Also, unless I was making $500k+/yr, I wouldn't buy a car like the GT4. I wouldn't be able to afford daily driving it otherwise nor would I be able to afford it as a second car.

    When you EatSleepDrive+WORK=300k then $2200 is no problem. Then again if you had any idea about OBDII equipped cars you would know that a $50 tool will reset the oil service warning. Plugs are Bosch about $5-8 each blah blah blah...Nothing funnier than someone on a Home Depot bucket in an alley Porsche GT4 talking and 100k people want to know about it. You are welcome.
